Still reeling over not having a new Dredd game in 20 years!!! If you have any suggestions for a follow up video (cos honestly there are *so* many brilliant 6/7 out of 10s on PS2), please drop them
Roadkill , it was written off as a knock off, but it's an insane blend of GTA and Twisted Metal in a post apocalypse setting. The Radio Stations alone keep me coming back over a decade later.
The problem with those reviewers is that never have a "Fun factor" in it. It's always about graphics, sound, gameplay, story so on and so forward. But they never once talk about how fun is to actually play the damn game. Great video, Vulture man! ⭐⭐⭐⭐
@@kloa4219 Still, that is they problem. Good thing that we all discover after years that they just don't really cared about game and some even hate it that thing. Game that are 10/10 get downgrade to 7/10, and games that are 7/10 get a 5/10 because yes. You can try be objective as much you want, but what makes you like a game is more than just good graphics, soundtrack, gameplay and/or story. Sure it helps if they have at least some fair quality in it, but you judge by how fun they're to play and not because a random number. I guess.
I bought Urban Reign for $10 at a Casey's gas station after school one day. I spent countless hours playing it and it is still one of my favorite classics to return to. There was so many unique fighting styles and characters, plus as you pointed out, some incredibly difficult challenges in the later stages of the game. I hold it in the same regard as Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance.
There really hasn't been any other brawler that brawls as good as Urban Reign. Shame Namco didn't bother giving the devs good amount of time and budget for it. Digging the files of the disc shows that there were supposed to be more missions, characters, attacks and a fleshed out split screen Multiplayer with proper wide-screen. The game even has progressive mode support. It's my favorite game on the PS2 along wihh God Hand.
Primal was amazing. Even had a 60hz toggle and kept compatibility with 480p on PAL which were both super rare things back in the day. Plus having Babylon 5's Andreas Katsulas as your little demon buddy was more somehow awesome than anything should ever be.
One "bad" PS2 game that i think is rather great is Reservoir Dogs. It has really good shooting mechanics, but even better (and actually working!) crowd control system, and to top that off really cool driving set pieces. To top that off it amazingly fills the blanks movie left. I know the faces look silly and they hired different actors, but the thing is they actually did a good job. I played through it couple of times and i really enjoyed it. Kind of 7/10 game in normal scale (and 8+/10 in IGN scale xd), so really solid one with decent replayability. And there is one more game - Cel Damage Overdrive, which has to be my favourite vehicle combat game, with movement and controls soo good that it feels like Tekken on wheels.
I full heartedly agree that both Colosseum: Road to Freedom and Urban Reign are both wonderful games that were drastically underrated. Still own urban reign and still play it from time to time.
"Urban Reign only getting a 60 on Metacritic? WHADDAYOU BLIND?!? JEEEZUZZZ!!!" 😅 I'd like to nominate SOS The Final Escape/Disaster Report for a potential part two.
Great video ! in the matter of "fun" these games are fun indeed and i had fun with some of them, but my opinion is that now there is less innovation in most mainstream games and indie games that these bad ps2 games seem cooler, but at the time we had innovative games that these games werent that special and it was more about video games seen and reviewed as inventions, while now it's the total opposite, 3,4 big games with many imitations labeled as something-like, while innovative games are niche and getting mixed reviews, so to me the bad games of before are the good games of now, and the innovative games of before are the quirky games of now, times change things in a surprising way

I have some suggestions: - RTX Red Rock - Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel (if you forget it's a Fallout game) - Final Fight: Streetwise (if you forget the 2D Final Fight games) - Knights of the Temple - Made Man
I played Dredd vs Death on PC a couple of years ago and I was pleasantly surprised. It's soooo 2003 in design but it is short and the shooting feels relatively fun. I liked it
Plus if you don't go into a menu and watch those 'girlfriend' videos it's no more creepy than getting taxi missions from 'super models' in Test Drive Unlimited was. watching and/or otherwise using those videos is dodgey/sad as all hell though.
I only bought Urban Reign a few years ago. It's one of those games that flew under my radar, and that's regretful, because the game is awesome and I would have loved it back in the day. This is why I love watching videos like this, because it showcases games that I either passed up back in the day, or never heard of in the first place. I'd rather go back to Generation 6 games than play most of the crap that comes out today.
24 was surprisingly really good. I played it when it game out and was pretty impressed. I consumed ZERO media about games at the time so never heard any negatives lol

I rented that Colliseum game back in the day. It was fun but it got boring pretty quickly. The combat system really wasn't that deep and there really wasn't enough combat variety for the length of the game. Like those arena battles are the entire game

UK based PAL gamer made this video, they're like £4 (under $6) each over here but suffer from 50hz crawl so don't import them to save money (FPS being cut from 30 to 25 wasn't just jankier animation like on modern consoles, it was actual slow motion gameplay. 8 and 16 bit games had slow motion music as well as gameplay, but switching to disc consoles saved us from that even though the games were still slower. Hell, one of the GT games that used the internal clock for timing on PS2, had some license tests that were nearly impossible to pass, let alone gold, as the game ran slower even though the clock didn't.)
24: The Game was pretty fun - but almost unplayable, due to very low fps. So, technically its a really bad game, so poorly optimized... Same problem with Predator game.
99% of people play these games on emulators these days, at locked 60, upscaled and with widescreen patches. There are hundreds of 'terrible at the time' PS2 games that are awesome once you fix them on newer hardware, almost as many as there are good games at the time that are even better now. With the fixes RPCSX2 can give you, PS2 is probably one of the greatest console libraries of all time, even multi-plats that were terrible compared to the Xbox and Gamecube versions at the time are amazing now.
The Getaway's health system was incredibly ahead of its time, and I'd love to do a video travelling around London and seeing what's changed in terms of the brands

I thought the PS2 TMNT beat-em-ups were at least a little better than some people claimed.

Gamepro had a Fun Factor scale. Alas, that publication shut down console generations ago.
A common theme here is the actual players enjoyed the games more than the critics.

the fact that a gas station sold video games is funny to me
Critics now: rate a game bad that's actually great.
Also them: rate a bad game 9/10 and 10/10 that no one wanted but exists, and it's bad too.
I take pride in recently reminding a friend about Drakengard since he forgot about it for 10 years, I will accept that as a W
Don't remind him of the sequel, friends don't do stuff like that.
I bought Ghost Rider new for thirty bucks, and for a god of war clone at value price I was surprised how fun it was. Definitely worth the money.
I've had it in my collection for ages, but have never come around to actually playing it.
Might give it a go soon.
