    I find it easier to use the alphalock in stead of select-inverse-erase.

      I always make a new layer and make it a clipping mask so if I fuck up I can restart but i was wondering y he didnt do alphalock or clipping mask

  • @oliviaanastasio7839

    Is there a reason you don't just use clipping masks while shading the bird?

  • @baphemir
    @baphemir 7 років тому +33

    quick tip. instead of using eraser after doing your selection on the other layer... instead you can ;
    -make selection
    -go to desired layer to be erased from
    - tap that layer and press clear.
    boom!
    thanks for the inspiring video!

      matthew deraspe doesn't pro create have clipping? I know alot of free apps that have clipping. So I think that if we are paying 10 dollars it should have clipping corrrect?

    • @Fabio-rg9nv
      @Fabio-rg9nv 6 років тому +9

      Lorena Sofia First of all, complaining for the price in Procreate is ridiculous since you‘re getting way more than what you pay for. Every person that uses Procreate extensively will agree 100%. Procreate is super powerful, really well designed and gets updated regularly, always implementing new technologies of iOS for a fast and great user experience, and new features are added as well, with a big update every year. For a 10 dollar one time payment this is simply impressive and I don‘t know how those developers can support the app that wel for such a price. And Procreate is pretty much the go to drawing/sketching app, it‘s just amazing.
      And for „clipping“, I‘m not a pro user yet but what I know is: if you‘re okay to draw the shadow on the same layer, you can just activate „Alphalock“ which doesn‘t let you draw outside of what is already there. Otherwise you can make the selection/mask BEFORE you draw instead of erasing the outer area afterwards.
      Even if clipping is something that is implemented a little „better“ in some other apps (I don‘t know if that‘s the case), that‘s not a reason that the 10 dollars are not justifiable, since those other apps are definitely not as feature rich, as well thought out, as well designed and as well implemented overall as Procreate is.

      @@Fabio-rg9nv You are correct. I'd pay $10 a month or more for it!

    Hey Brad, I was trying to follow your tutorial for adding texture to a solid color and I think I found a faster way.
    When you have the solid color, you select it, create a new layer and with the "texture" brush you paint on that new layer. This way you avoid having to erase and what you paint on the new layer is delimited by the selection of the solid color you've already done.
    What do you think?
    Keep up the amazing work you're doing with your videos.

    Any suggestions on how to avoid lines being pixelated? I've tried adjusting canvas size with no luck.

    Good video on the brush but to color in after you could simply select the bird layer, then add a layer and then with that layer tap and select mask... then you can draw all you want on that layer and it would only affect the bird shape.

    • @WeronikaSalach
      @WeronikaSalach 5 років тому

      Yup, was thinking the same - or alpha locking the original shape hmmmm

    Brad you should illustrate a children’s book , and include a UA-cam series of step by step how you illustrated each picture,
    :)!!!!
    You could even write the children’s book yourself, using your sense of humor and your clever understanding of things :)

    Does your Udemy class on Procreate cover the new Procreate4? I’d be interested but wanted to learn more about the mask and things they can be used for. Especially since Procreate just had a new update. Thanks

      I just updated it last week. I talk about the masking in one section but I don't use it in the projects.

    hello Brad! awesome video!! have you tried printing any artwork made on procreate? what are specifications to be kept in mind? I hear a lot of queries here and there. I work in Photoshop and work on 300 dpi and heard that procreate doesnt work with dpi..I don't know wht it meant but this is wht I heard. another artist mentioned here somewhere that even though they gave the right.canvas size when the art was sent to print it came out pixelated (it wasn't a large print something like A4/B4) . I would love to invest in this..but along with making art for social media/webcomics I also make small scale prints. please do advice if you have tried printing your work!

    • @saramations
      @saramations 7 років тому +1

      Procreate does use dpi, it's in the canvas settings when you make a document template. Who knows what could have went wrong when that someone printed their art, probably not procreates fault but most likely human error.

    Hey Brad, when you start coloring this image and the one with the rock band, do you color with 50% opacity or do you use overlay? How do you work on your color selection, hue and saturation? Great job, great videos.

    Hey, I’ve tried in other videos clicking the link to your brushes on Procreate forum but the site redirects me to the general search. Is there somewhere else I should be looking for these? Primarily your gradient brushes. Thanks!

      You might be best googling and seeing if you can find them.

    9:55 There is no "preserve transparency" or "layer clipping" like in Photoshop? Drawing on existing pixels only would be much easier and faster. BTW, just noticed the video publish date… Maybe improved in ProCreate 2018 ?
