Never will there ever be another like him! He still is the same humble beautiful person. I would give anything to meet him one day to say thank you for sharing your God given talent with us. It has meant so much to me for so many years and still does every day. You are so loved by so many , please NEVER forget that. Hopefully pray fully I will get to tell you this in person one day. God Bless you Steve Perry ❤
Not the best, but one of the greats! He tried to fit into the "punk", his voice was never meant for that. I love him, so the songs he did, without even trying, are my fave's
A few years ago I was in a funk, thinking God didn't care or know me and my problems personally. The next morning my clock radio went off and " Be good to yourself" was playing. Got in the car to drive to work and this song was on as soon as I started the car. Coincidence, no a tender mercy from God to me. Love Journey and Steve Perry!!!
As any Journey fan knows "Don't Stop Believin'" is a great song. However this song is even better and is my personal favorite from the band. This excellent live performance makes the song even better. I envy the lucky people who were able to see this performance live. Absolutely phenomenal.
Yep!! Calveras County Fairgrounds. Mountain Air Festival 1986. Everyone was parked on the side of a mountain in the dirt. When people started leaving after the concert, a cloud of dust rose and no one could find where they parked. 100,000 people wandering aimlessly, looking for their cars. FUN!!! Great show though, also had Night Ranger and The Outfield!
Check out the song "Sheila C" by Benny Mardones. Not exactly the same, but it's got a similar vibe to this song, it's magnificent, and Benny's voice sounds like if Steve Perry's voice went down a slightly different skill progression path.
I love this song. The whole band sang backup so awesome to Steve's lead. And he was singing like he always does. Like he's right at home. Such a natural. Possibly my all time favorite singer. He was one of a kind.
The difference between Steve Perry and his successors not only lies in his phenomenal voice but in the energy attraction in his stage performance, his electricity and magnet on stage was extraordinary, he is historically classified as one of the best voices, if not the best of the Rock genre, truly an Icon.

As the years pass by, I find myself gravitating back to the summer of 1986 more than ever. I had little idea at the time just how special it really was or how cherished and important the memories I was making every single day back then would become to my older self. Yeah. (I assume you're referring to 1:38.) Recovered from it quite nicely with that next held note I'd say. It's funny - sometimes a mishap can actually have a charm all its own, as long as it's still musical. I remember Celine Dion having a couple moments like that. Her voice would do something that surprised even _her,_ but it ended up sounding *awesome!* Speaking of which, I've always been disappointed that Celine & Steve never collaborated when they were both in their prime. In my opinion, she served the same sort of role toward the end of "Voices That Care" that Steve did in "We Are The World" - namely, the singer for whom listeners sat up and said, "Holy crap! Who the heck was THAT?!" :)
They should be in the Rock N Roll Hall of fame. There was no body better in concert. Steve was an incredible singer!!!Sounded the same live as recorded, not many singers can say that!!!

I wish I had gone to see them. I was only 19 when Infinity was released and I was living in the SF Bay Area. They were a local band. They, also, played a Day on the Green in Oakland, CA. I had only gone to indoor concerts at a fairly small theater (Circle Star Theater in San Carlos, CA) and didn't see how I would handle "stadium" seating. Probably not well, which is why I didn't go.

I am 53. I remember my adorable 16 year old girlfriend literally shreiking when Steve Perry would come onto the tv. LOL cannot get that out of my head.
Pretty sure he will be there....Steve is a very gracious & humble man. Even showed up when Journey (along w/ the wannabes) received their star @ The Hollywood Walk Of Fame; that's because our Mr. Stephen Ray Perry has CLASS....just saying.
Did you hear about that one time Bilbo Baggins was jarred awake by the sound of "Be Good To Yourself" blaring through the halls at Bag End? It was... an unexpected Journey.
I haven’t watched lord of the rings, but I know Sean Astin is it. Reason I say that is this song reminds me of him. Movie called something like White Water Summer w/him and Kevin BaconC the closing credits has Sean Astin giving an epilogue of sorts then this song play. Was your comment because of that movie and this song?
No one...but no one...has a voice like Steve Perry. I was raised on radio. And looking at this beautiful man and listening to his voice...I feel blessed. Love you, Steve!!! You kept me going in 1981 when I lived in Hawaii and hated it! Journey all the way!
@@lisacole-haigler6291 you must have seen him at the Blaisdel Arena. I flew over from Kauai and went both nights. I still remember his stage presence. I didn’t know then he would become an icon.
As good as Arnel is...there is only ONE...STEVE PERRY. Steve, Thank You Brother for all the GREAT songs. Many days it was your voice that gave me the juice to get through the roughest of days. Met you once, and the humility astounded me. God Bless and much Happiness in all you do forward. Nate
I love this song, and the message. Be good to yourself ! Nobody else. This still keeps me going in today life with all the madness! With your job, and certain people!!!!
Best thing about searching Journey live videos is that they are always better than the original recordings, very satisfying each time I stumble across another perfect performance 💯
@@MrMadBaggins I don't know Steve Perry personally of course, but quite honestly, I don't think he would be proud to count among his fans someone making this kind of statement. 😐
I love this man, he’s 74 now and can still bring it!! Thanks my friend, keep singing, Kelly Nash is with you and pushing you my baby! Keep going!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
@@NealSchon-kh5hz doing well, fixing to get rain here but it’s all good. Still playing guitar? One of the best for sure! Have great rest of your weekend 🎶!
@@caroldozier1956 I actually opened this account as my official chat account so I can have a little time for my fans and know how some of you feel about me and the band precisely.
Why would you want to match his vocals to another? Is it an ego thing with some fans that they have to proclaim their guy or band is the best ever? As if every different band could all be the best, whatever best means. I have heard some amazing vocalists over my lifetime and I would bet that you haven't heard some of the ones that I have heard.
@@alejandrom6050 When you have more virtuoso singers who were more powerful and naturally consistent like Ronnie James Dio, Franco Corelli, Pavarotti and Del Monaco and who, in fact, are most mentioned by singing experts in the world, is really much complex but Steve is one the bests singers.
Journey was on fire. I love this group so much, and this is a great song. It's great to see Randy Jackson on bass guitar. Great group of musicians, and Steve Perry always commanded the stage with a powerful presence and with that beautiful, God given voice. Their music has always brought me great joy and has helped me through painful moments in my llife. It must have been so much fun to have been at their concert and see them live.
There will never, EVER be another band like Journey were in their Perry-led prime, Featuring pummeling drums, thundering bass, soaring keyboards, massive riffs/solos, and topped off by Perry's sky-high, ohmyfuckinggodhowcanhesingthathigh? voice, they were a knockout. The songs still sound amazing,
Well....yes......even today, Steve delivers, of course....however....the Lead Singer for Stryper…...Michael Sweet.....check out "No More Hell To Pay" Video......This cat.....ain't lost nothing since the 80's (His Vocal Capabilities are UNREAL....Angels, are in Envy)....NO BS.....check him out....swings a six-axe pretty damned good too....whole band, oozes w/Talent (Stryper).....the Guy from Firehouse is their new bass player....couple years back, I think (???)….Seen 'em LIVE YEARS AGO....they still got it....
I adore Steve Perry. I love his facial expressions, his passion, his energy and his heavenly voice, of course! No body can even touch Steve Perry's voice, passion and performance, ever!
I think there are two things that happen when bringing up Steve's current voice. First, just because he doesn't have his old higher range doesn't mean that he sounds bad. He actually is still an incredible singer and sounds great. I'm excited to hear him sing again. But, that doesn't mean that he could/should/would rejoin Journey. From what I have heard from him lately, they would need to lower the keys of the songs significantly in order to tour. But why do it? He doesn't need to prove himself to anyone. He was one of, if not, the best singers of our generation. I would love to hear him record a Sam Cooke tribute album and sing where he is comfortable these days. Whatever he does, I will be in line to hear it. So, my point is, when someone states that Steve can't sing the old catalog any more, it doesn't have to be taken as a personal attack on Steve. Personally, I think that with some vocal coaching and a bit of singing with a band, he could get back to where he was at on ROR or FTLOSM. I loved his voice then too. I'm not convinced his current vocal state is a permanent condition. Even if it is, he still sounds fantastic. He was the superman of vocals and it's unfair to expect someone to maintain that forever.
If even half of what is recorded in video and radio interviews is true, Steve Perry doesn't need those pathetic excuses for friends. NO ONE but Steve Perry gave a damn about his well being. They were a pile of users. Look how many years have passed, how much grief, how many up's and down's. In the grand scheme of things would it have killed those basta*ds to give him a little bit of consideration and space. I have tried to look at this entire historical saga, and no matter how you slice it, it would be hard to find a group of people with less appreciation for anyone, than those bastards had for the man who made them. If you want to argue who made who, look at the historical records. I looked at the complete concert schedule for Frontiers. Herbie Herbert should have been shot for putting together something that grueling. In addition, he doesn't get to play stupid. He knew how special Steve was, and he put him through the grinder anyway. I am glad his fat a** was fired before the TBF reunion.
Rose Reichert Even without Herbie there now, Neal will be burning Arnels vocals out too. Between the Escape and Frontiers tour you know it took a tole on Steve's voice. But Herbie was out for the all mighty dollar at the bands expense.
Actually the between the Departure tour and the Escape you could hear the difference in Steve's voice. Then the Frontiers tour took a toll on it. The waited 3 years for the ROR tour and he sounded good until later in the tour. But he is without a doubt the man who put Journey on the map and king's of the arenas.Everyone always forgets about Steve Augeri, I liked him because he didn't try to copy Steve because he knew he couldn't do it. Thanks to Neal, Augeri's vocals took a turn for the worse too. But Arnel's vocals are basically gone also thanks to Neal. I like the way Steve Perry sounds now because it's just nice to hear his voice again, it may not be like it was years ago, but to me he's working on getting the kinks out. And you have to remember that was live, he hadn't been on a stage in 20 years. I think Steve knows what he's doing, because he even said he'll be back when he feels ready. Steve Perry will always be my number one singer and my idol.
Chris Lester I never want him to return to "Journey 2" , he made the right decision for himself and moved on. I would just love to hear his voice, he could read audio books for all I care. I only want him to sing if it makes him happy, he doesn't owe any of us anything. Be happy Stevie.
Chris Lester Chris, very well said. I've been telling people this all the time. His voice is more bluesy and still has the emotions. Watching the video with him and the Eels in LA. He was moving fine on stage. Far as dropping the music down, it probably has to be done. If he was to rejoin Journey and tour, i suspect it wouldn't be a long one like years past. I'm anxious to see if he performs at the hall of fame ceremonies.
Oh my gosh, how I love Steve Perry! He is mesmerizing with both performance and voice. His voice is the most beautiful sound in the whole world! Yes, I’m obsessed! Thank you, The Voice, for never failing to make me smile!
I believe he was singing about himself when he did this song. Runnin' out of self-control Gettin' close to an overload Up against a no win situation Shoulder to shoulder, push and shove I'm hangin' up my boxin' gloves I'm ready for a long vacation He got off the road soon after this His voice is truly one of a kind and in my opinion the best there ever has been. He sings with so much heart and conviction that you can listen to every word and really believe what he is telling you in the songs he sings.
Here is the full lyrics to the song. I was quoting a few lines from the song when talking about him writing this about himself . Runnin' out of self-control Gettin' close to an overload Up against a no win situation Shoulder to shoulder, push and shove I'm hangin' up my boxin' gloves I'm ready for a long vacation [Chorus:] Be good to yourself when, nobody else will Oh be good to yourself You're walkin' a high wire, caught in a cross fire Oh be good to yourself When you can't give no more They want it all but you gotta say no I'm turnin' off the noise that makes me crazy Lookin' back with no regrets To forgive is to forget I want a little piece of mind to turn to [Chorus] Be good to yourself when, nobody else wil
Lori - Thanks so much for the lyrics. I believe as you do, he was singing about himself. For his own well being, he had to leave it behind. I am glad he did, otherwise . . . He is smart and sensible besides being gifted.
My Top 10 Favorite Journey Songs: 1. "Don't Stop Believin'" 2. "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" 3. "Ask The Lonely" 4. "Chain Reaction" 5. "Wheel In The Sky" 6. "I'm Cryin'" 7. "Lovin' You Is Easy" 8. "Be Good To Yourself" 9. "Any Way You Want It" 10. "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'"
There has got to be more Journey live footage with Perry as the frontman then has been released. How could they have played for so long without being recorded? I blame the new lineup and the record company for this. What do you think?

He has a new album out October 5 2018. Two songs have been released. He is still THE VOICE. ALWAYS AND FOREVER!
Journey is nominated for Rock And Roll Hall of Fame 2017. I hope they get it!
Me too. I hope Steve is there at the induction ceremony.
Pretty sure he will be there....Steve is a very gracious & humble man. Even showed up when Journey (along w/ the wannabes) received their star @ The Hollywood Walk Of Fame; that's because our Mr. Stephen Ray Perry has CLASS....just saying.
Georg Hägglund keep voting!!
They freakin better.. seriously best band ever
Georg Hägglund
They're not already in???
I can feel his happines at 0:46 just looking at him. Steve Is amazing.
Nate
I finally broke down and watched the version with Arnel. It's not horrible. Having said that; there's NO comparison to Steve's version!
No one ever could replace Steve. Let’s be honest.
Never gonna be another Steve!!!! Arnel is ok but not the real thing!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this song, and the message. Be good to yourself ! Nobody else. This still keeps me going in today life with all the madness! With your job, and certain people!!!!
Yes he is amazing.
Best thing about searching Journey live videos is that they are always better than the original recordings, very satisfying each time I stumble across another perfect performance 💯
Just the energy to perform the entire concert! Steve's rockin even when he's not singing!
He so owned this song ❤️
Hands down the greatest frontman in all musical history.
Freddie turning in his grave.
@@adamellistutorials Freddie was gay!!!!
@@MrMadBaggins How would that disqualify him?
@@CyregO He was gay, nuff said!!!
@@MrMadBaggins I don't know Steve Perry personally of course, but quite honestly, I don't think he would be proud to count among his fans someone making this kind of statement. 😐
Best Journey song, who doesnt feel good when hearing this song by Journey, it's like Christmas as a child
I want to say thank you Steve Perry for you. I hear the greatest voice
I have to say that I love this live version. How often, today, do you hear a band that sounds better live than they do in the studio?
Yeah, its called overdubs, and this version is full of them. No big deal, it is indeed perfect. Just saying.
OMG I AM SO GLAD I LIVED THE TIME OF STEVE PERRY WITH JOURNEY.
Warning: Listening to this will cause you to start crying very loud and cheering even from home 34 years later.
So glad I'm from this era this type of music may never come back to our time again
I love this man, he’s 74 now and can still bring it!! Thanks my friend, keep singing, Kelly Nash is with you and pushing you my baby! Keep going!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hello, how are you doing today? Nice meeting you here.
@@NealSchon-kh5hz doing well, fixing to get rain here but it’s all good. Still playing guitar? One of the best for sure! Have great rest of your weekend 🎶!
@@caroldozier1956 I know you must be surprised to receive a message from me right?
@@NealSchon-kh5hz not surprised cause I always enjoyed the music, keep playing!🎶
@@caroldozier1956 I actually opened this account as my official chat account so I can have a little time for my fans and know how some of you feel about me and the band precisely.
His vocals are unmatchable to ANYONE else!
@@PatrickLongworth for example..?
I had no idea that was Randy Jackson.
A great song, sung by the best male voice in Steve Perry & 1 of the best bands in Journey
He’s so happy while he’s singing this song ,and those looks he gives I love them and him.
The songs still sound amazing,
Exactly!, and then there's Neal Schone on guitar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agreed, though TOTO says hi...:)
Play Journey with Arnel Pineda
@@dakotalane6997 Arnel does a very good job.
I was at this concert, the Mtn Aire Festival. Who knew at the time it would be the beginning of the end with Steve leaving at the end of the tour.
I adore Steve Perry. I love his facial expressions, his passion, his energy and his heavenly voice, of course! No body can even touch Steve Perry's voice, passion and performance, ever!
his voice gives me legit butterflies
Love him!! He is the greatest of all time. I’m so glad, even though it ended sadly, that he and Kelly Nash found each other. ❤
Oh my gosh, how I love Steve Perry! He is mesmerizing with both performance and voice. His voice is the most beautiful sound in the whole world! Yes, I’m obsessed! Thank you, The Voice, for never failing to make me smile!
I will always love radio... Always free and never needs an update.
Hello, how are you doing today? Nice meeting you here.
These people are lucky to be able to watch Journey with Steve Perry 😭❤️
Yes we were. I was at this concert tour when they came to SLC. I was 21 years old.
There will never be a singer like Steve ever again. A true “one and done.” I miss his voice so much.
Man, that guitar solo at the very end of the song is killer. Its very good! Neal Schon is one of the best guitar players in the Rock N' Roll business.
An underrated Journey song. One of my favorites.
I agree with you on that 💯
This song is so true on every word. Steve was telling us about his life it sounds like and his fans.
This song was Steve's way of letting fans know that he was leaving and why.
so freaking awesome,Journeys been my favorite since the early 80's
This is a masterpiece, wow the vocals on Steve are just immaculate 1st to none. He can't be beat in the vocal range.
Steve Perry, sempre sensacional! The Voice!!! Journey, amo!!!!!
I believe he was singing about himself when he did this song.
Runnin' out of self-control
Gettin' close to an overload
Up against a no win situation
Shoulder to shoulder, push and shove
I'm hangin' up my boxin' gloves
I'm ready for a long vacation
He got off the road soon after this
His voice is truly one of a kind and in my opinion the best there ever has been. He sings with so much heart and conviction that you can listen to every word and really believe what he is telling you in the songs he sings.
some lircys are rong
Tyler Wilkins What lyrics do you think are wrong?
Here is the full lyrics to the song. I was quoting a few lines from the song when talking about him writing this about himself .
Runnin' out of self-control
Gettin' close to an overload
Up against a no win situation
Shoulder to shoulder, push and shove
I'm hangin' up my boxin' gloves
I'm ready for a long vacation
[Chorus:]
Be good to yourself when, nobody else will
Oh be good to yourself
You're walkin' a high wire, caught in a cross fire
Oh be good to yourself
When you can't give no more
They want it all but you gotta say no
I'm turnin' off the noise that makes me crazy
Lookin' back with no regrets
To forgive is to forget
I want a little piece of mind to turn to
[Chorus]
Be good to yourself when, nobody else wil
Lori - Thanks so much for the lyrics. I believe as you do, he was singing about himself. For his own well being, he had to leave it behind. I am glad he did, otherwise . . . He is smart and sensible besides being gifted.
loricat , steve is a story teller. So many songs you hear are more than likely experiences from his own life, he's a wonderful person!
Each musician is unique in their own way. Bringing a lot of talent to the table.
I am grateful my brain still has so many connections to that band and especially Steve. Very grateful those guys got together! Thanks Neal!
What a voice!!! Best performance ever!!! I heard different versions with the other singers but this one is the best.

Journey forever baby!!😍😍😍
There has got to be more Journey live footage with Perry as the frontman then has been released. How could they have played for so long without being recorded? I blame the new lineup and the record company for this. What do you think?
Steve Perry is the one of the best, if not the best singer this planet ever had. This band is completely amazing. Phenomenal and still sounding relevant and great with Mr. Arnel Pineda! Keep the good work up, AND KEEP ROCKING JOURNEYYYY 🤘
It's difficult to be the best, when you have more virtuoso singers who were more powerful and naturally consistent like Ronnie James Dio, Franco Corelli, Pavarotti and Del Monaco and who, in fact, are most mentioned by singing experts in the world, but Steve was one of the best .
O
The more the concert went on the more they sounded exactly like studio which is fuckin amazing the power and drive is unreal

Magic. Blows away anything from any band today.
No one can sing and perform like Steve,he's unique! I just love his energy, he's awesome!
Happy 75th birthday to Steve Perry...that fading guitar riff still brings me tears of joy.
The "Platinum" good 'ol days..glad to be part of the memories that Journey and others made so special..
Here we have Randy Jackson on Bass, Jonathan Cain on keyboards and Mike Baird on drums, unbelievable!!! 👍😎
I am a grown man but this song brings me to tears I love this
