Philip DeFranco I can’t believe chipotle fired the manager. Thank god they offered her the job back. These trouble makers should’ve just showed them the money smh
Quack quack Daddy!
I knew it was all bullshit at the very beginning. The Starbucks one was bullshit too Phil.
If those screen shots didn't pop up she would've been forever titled a racist manager and have hard time getting a job.
The she sue the guy who made the false claims? I’d say yes
@@josephgschwartz oh yes yes she can, but the problem is if her state doesn't allow for garnishing wages on personal settlements, she will never see that money. If he doesn't care about having that debt against him, chances are he'll never pay her the allotted money.

Probably still will be
@@lordpotter5939 Yeah where this shit thief did his thieving matters more then the fact he tried and partially succeeded in smearing this poor woman. /s
p.s. managers talk bout issues they are having at nearby restaurants. Why you think where he did his diner dash matters more then he FUCKING DID and got a person fired for calling him the fuck out is what's really sad.
I hate “the customer is always right” policy. It’s such BS and always infuriating to the worker.
If you don't pay then you're not a customer, right? :D
It's possibly one of the biggest examples of a term being grossly misunderstood by a large amount of people, and then misused to justify shitty behavior.
The original meaning of the term is that when things aren't going well in a business, customer complaints should be the number one priority. An average episode of Kitchen Nightmares is an example of owners completely ignoring that info initially, when they could otherwise run a profitable business. The focus on "*always* right" is because often times it will go against your gut feelings or vision of the business to acknowledge and work on behalf of those complaints.
Of course, it's mostly spouted by customers that want free stuff taking advantage of this misunderstanding, and managers that don't know any better.
The biggest lie told to everyone, and the very reason we all feel entitled to sh!t:
"The customer is always right." Because 9 times out of 10, the customer is usually wrong.

I could have told you that there was something up with this Chipotle story. The fact that the young men were yelling at other customers, shows their lack of integrity. Chipotle needs to give this woman MORE than just her job back.
Yesss. I work at burger king and I just KNEW something was up, people can be so shitty. I feel so bad for that girl.

Going to be honest here: if you dine and dash and then want to setup a person for a fall because you didn't get to do it again you should have a photo put up of yourself at all dining facilities cash registers to insure that you are not served for a certain amount of time. If you want your food, pay for it. You don't get things given to you especially when you're a known thief and your tweets and your actions ought to violate your parole and put you back behind bars.

Who Post There Crimes? Oh Yea Tekashi 69 Does!
Not only is the guy from the first story perpetuating negative stereotypes against black people, he's invalidating real cases of racial profiling by accusing the employees of racism when they caught him being an asshole.
Maybe we should be teaching "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" to adults rather than children.

@Michael S Exactly
@mikael feathers but outrage culture IS the american way in this day and age

How so? In that story they were asked to leave and said they were waiting for a friend and got the police called on them.
A few white people came out and said that they sit and hang out all the time in Starbucks and they didn’t get the police called on them.
So why is this instance different?
They teach that story to kids so they can hold onto it in adulthood.
The problem is many of these blacks dont grow up.
This Chipotle thing is exactly why I'm so tired of "cancel culture". There are definitely times when outrage and further action is justified, but trial by public opinion is an awful way to go.
magpie completely agree. People are acting as judge, jury, and executioner. It’s leading to the destruction of people’s lives!
@@jackgutman4822 Yep! Throughout the course of human history, so many innocent people have been ruined when the mob is judge, jury, and executioner.
God damn there maybe hope for humanity yet...at least some people agree with me and have proper logic. Thank you both.
I hate to say it but having worked in food industry exclusively I'm always skeptical of customers claims... lots of videos don't seem to show what caused an employee to act a certain way, so even if they don't technically act how they are supposed to I personally withhold judgment, because you get treated like shit and you're expected to be nice anyways... That's not necessarily true in other countries, they are rude right back but here customers aren't used to it but I'm sympathetic
Guilty until proven Innocent
They fired the Chipotle manager, are you kidding me...for saying no to assholes who ripped off the store?!?!??! They even admitted to dine and dashing!
Don't they have the right to refuse service? ..... wtf....
If a dollar store gets robbed the employee has to give you the money with out a fight if you say anything or do anything to the robber you get fired
@@bryonsparkman1386 are you serious or just being ironic?
"Customers are gods" it seems they took that to heart....a bit too much.
also fk that kid for giving racists a reason
Really people? I knew he was lying from the video. The staff was as respectfull as you could ask, he seemed to be having fun annoying the other customers, and if you are really confused for someone who didn't pay, you pay beforehand and say "I think you are confusing me with someone" not throw the race card first.
DarkPock exactly, his video seemed so sketch off the bat, being confrontational to other customers? And I’m supposed to take your side?
It was confusing for me, an Australian, because you always pay for fast food first here. Then again we don't have chipotle here so I'm not sure if it's fast food (Though google says it's seen as a 'fast casual food restaurant' which just seems like a weird mash up.) With fancy resteraunts where you book tables and stuff and wait to order, that's different.
That chipotle story is messed up! It hurts real victims and this also shows how so many big companies just dont give a shit about their employees. Very very rarely do we see companies actually stand by their employees. This is the world we live in people.
James Wise Magic lol what do you mean? If the company gets a bad public image Beacuse of leftists and such they will take a bigger hit and many more jobs will be lost than firing one person to fix it. Im not saying its good, or the right thing, but in today’s times one bad public image problem, could mean the destruction of the whole company
theres no proof that they did that specific instance of dining and dashing that she refers to and according to that email she did violate procedure and as a manager she is required to uphold the brand above all else, especially over a few meals. even more so considering the amount of food probably wasted at the end of the night, perhaps termination is drastic, but it's definitely understandable from the company's perspective. that said perhaps a period of unpaid leave coupled with sensitivity training might've been a more equitable approach.
chipotle stated their procedure is to make the food then make them pay before allowing it to be in their reach, which she failed to do. instead she makes a scene and causes bad pr for the company. thats easily grounds for termination.
@@niccarter284 Why "leftists"? Why can't you just say dickheads, dickheads come from both left and right and arent native to any place
@@poiu477 uhhh you think SHE was the one making a scene?? Are you serious?
Companies are so afraid of public backlash that they stab themselves in the foot regardless
Yup. This doesn't surprise me at all. People are now just afriad of the instant reactionaries.
Funny thing is, this even goes into sexual harassment conversations in the past "well, if they looked into it and fired them (in a situation where there is no way an actual investigation could have been done properly in said window with the evidence known) - it must have been even more proof he actually did do it". And I have always tried to show this exact message that is always lost in the thing - companies don't want to be the perceived supporters of said slight, even if it is wrong, if they can't prove it is - the PR of it being possibly a crime is enough for them to just take punitive measures 'on investigation' against any employee they want.
It's just a shame it is on this sort of issue people seem to understand that, but not much of the other issues.
The Chipotle story is a perfect example of why, “Innocent until proven guilty” is so important in any case.
Well since he self confessed he should get arrested for theft.. for as many times he has stated that he has done it..
Omar RC shh, too much common sense.

Well hopefully she's not in a Right to Work state and can actually file one
Shame on Chipotle and shame on the men who set this whole thing up. People like them are harming people who are actually being discriminated against!

to top this off this dude tried to dox em.
tbh we should do a thing where a doxxer gets doxxed, so idiots like these don't get of easy
Because identity politics is so prevalent, is no wonder that people will continue to do this. Corporations don't care about the truth, only what will prevent them from looking in a bad light. I'm wondering if the manager, who is Latina, will claim racial discrimination. I think that would be the cherry on top.
As a black man your a 100 right in a black community we have those black people who always lie so we shun them just like what the manger did.
What's the shame on Chipotle for? You said shame on Chipotle.

Falsely Calling people and places racist should be punished because like calling rape can ruin lives and repitations.
Part of the issue that seems to be missed here is once the food is made, if they don't pay for it, it has to be thrown away. So, if they are grabbing it and running, it is theft. If they are ordering and it is made and then they walk away without it, it is wasted and the restaurant has to write it off as a loss. This manager was trying to prevent both - so she needs to not only have her job back, but an apology and a bonus from Chipotle for trying to make her store profitable.
Well said. She did the right thing. Its sad how in today's world ha e a back bone is morally wrong...
If shes smart she'd put chipotle on blast get the bag and work for wendies
To be the devils advocate she didn't know about those tweets from two years ago. If they rewatched footage from weeks back and saw those weren't the same guys she thought they were then it was a simple a mistake. I think people are acting like she knew they were dine and dashing, but it doesn't seem likely. She most likely won't want to go back to work there now and I wouldn't blame her.
You’re absolutely right! I was a chipotle store manager and had customers like these. Race was never an issue, it was the repeated offenses. They’d email chipotle and I’d get in trouble. So I really hope the company stands up for their employees and this manager after this situation
I get what she was trying to do but she didn’t do it PROFESSIONALLY. She deserved to lose her job.

That manager needs to sue Chipotle for wrongful termination. I hope this becomes a deterrent for bending over to outrage culture.
It wont, even with a lawsuit because its a lot cheaper to pay out an employee than to deal with the lost sales because of really bad PR. This time they just rolled a 1 on their diplomacy check and there was fairly strong proof it was a lie right after they made their decision.

What pisses me off most about the Chipotle is that the company were informed about the guy's history, shown the social media comments of him and his friends, still kept the firing in play, and only considered correcting their "mistake" when it was discovered by the public and said public got pissed off. Now that everyone is mad at you it's wrong? Tim Pool made a video a few days ago. Talking about an article that has a whole host of moments such as this. Ranging from dogs pooping to annoying neighbor stuff. Welcome to the latest moral panic everyone. This is one of it's side effects. People using the outrage hype to try and abuse the system. Neighbors trying to get neighbors into trouble over minor things but using serious accusations. Moral Panic.
Forget getting that job back. Chipotle doesn't deserve her. Also hey look! Another incident where due process matters!
Hey Phil! You kind of skipped over the worst part of those Tweets. The part where he suggests using physical violence? What gives? Okay I'll give it to you if your worried about UA-cam's asshat censor system. But you could have mentioned that you couldn't read it and simply suggest people to read it for themselves as it goes further than just stealing food. Problem solved.
This was chock full of really interesting topics. Great work!
I'm so tired of seeing/hearing news like the Chipotle story. Analogous story: I was on the train and two women didn't pay for their fare. When the officer came by, they were fined. The women started to argue that it was an honest mistake and they're being fined because they were black. It turns out that they were fined because they have a history of not paying their train fares. They were given benefit of the doubt many times in the past, then when not paying didn't work out for them, they used their skin colour to redirect the issue and cause controversy. How about you don't break the law in the first place?!
People like this who are trying to take advantage of a more understanding society that is careful not to offend, are complete garbage. By breaking the law, getting caught and then pulling a race card, gender card... or whatever it may be, you only weaken arguments for equality.
Then there are many, many stories of girls falsely accusing Uber/Lyft/taxi drivers of sexual assault to avoid paying fares.
@@nathanberrigan9839 it's the same thing that the coment said.

That manager got a golden ticket as a blessing in disguise. She’s must be going through a lot, especially having her name dragged through the mud and chipotle knowing the facts from both sides still fire her publicly. That’s enough for a lawsuit, Wrongful termination.
Depends on if the state is a "right to work" state I believe. A "right to work" state, and please let me know if i am wrong, they don't even need a reason to fire you. They can just fire you. And if they state the reason for termination is not following company policy, you can even be denied unemployment. My husband brought a pepsi bottle in his workbag. That is all. He was fired and due to the company policy of only having water he was turned down for unemployment. Course he was the highest paid hourly employee in a failing business so i am sure that was the underlying factor.
@@lyndajaeger4477 Well that actually depends because even a right to work state could still be sued for knowingly withholding crucial evidence like this. Also with slander and loss of income, she very well could have a case.
Thats what I was thinking. She should pursue a settlement. I would for sure if my character was dragged through the mud and the corporate company even shared the fact of "termination" publicly without due process. Im not a lawyer, maybe its tougher than that. But I think she should receive $$$ for this. That kid causing all the drama should face extended probation. He is a trouble maker and a loud mouth it seems. Consequences are needed for his actions. Also, for younger kids being born into social media it blows my mind how ignorant they are to the fact their past posts are still there 😂. Its like they forget the internet keeps stuff.
@@jasoncroxford Well actually this would be grounds for the kid to have his probation revoked, that I know for a fact. However, that all depends on how harsh of a judge he has. But yeah, the main thing the manager has working for her is the fact Chipotle knew she was in the right but fired her anyway and with the outrage against them, it's only going to be a shit storm. Eventually it's going to be hire her back or settle to avoid a lawsuit.

So, I've never ordered from Chipotle before... Do they hand the food over the counter before the customer pays, orrrrrr??? Cuz, like, dishing it all up and then having them not pay would be a lot worse if the customers can leave with the food. Sure, you might have to toss the food, but if the would-be-thieves don't even get anything out of it, there's less incentive to keep doing it.

$20 million for unjustified firing of someone seems a bit steep lol.
Since they offered her job back i don't think so.
In regards to the fires after both living in California and looking into a bunch of the statistics on climate change and forest management no one is innocent. There has been a noticeable 2-3 degree increase in temperature on average across this area of California increasing dryness and fire risks. However the forest management services have not changed their regulations or practices in many years to combat this. Nor have many of the individual residents done their part in keeping a "fire safe" area around their homes. Everyone is to blame, I simply hope that everyone cant come together to make sure that a disaster of this scale never happens again.

@ITHEREONETHATHASNT I still don't think it was a racist attempt by them. They said that he didn't pay last time so they will not give them a meal this time. Even if they had a money cause they could still run away
Sad that someone who’s working in a minimum paying job had to lose it in the first place for being "racist" without any evidence whatsovever.
Retail/service industry workers often know from past experience that a given customer will attempt to steal. That’s an undeniable fact. A thief may get away with it once or twice before LP or management are able to put a stop to it and make a decision to refuse service, call the police, or forcibly eject and bar such criminal individuals from the private establishment.
This lady made all of the right management decisions. She stood firm against unruly "customers" with a record of theft and provided excellent, apologetic, and very gracious service to upstanding customers who where minding their own business and fortunately inconvenienced by the harassment. I agree that I'm not sure that she should seek to re-obtain her position, given the apparent corporate negligence involved in her "thrown under the bus" termination, but perhaps she should seek legal counsel about wrongful termination.
Yep, she handled it exactly the way she was supposed to. Unfortunately, the right way can sometimes get you in trouble with corporate because "the customer is always right". I hope she finds something better moving forward.
I also hope she sues the guy for libel.
Honestly she deserves a lot more from chipotle than just getting her job back.
Well, she can't. I actually think her not calling the police is more-or-less proof of her not trying to be really nasty about it. I can't help but feel she didn't want to be known as a pushover, get even more of this crap from other people who've heard it's a soft target, and then get into shit with Chipotle over bad audits. However, that didn't mean she wasn't going to give them the very reasonable opportunity to walk away without police involvement over stealing a few sandwiches.
Rock > that manager > hard place.
Sorry, the 'can't' bit is in relation to wrongful termination (see other posts about fire at will, or 'right to work' legislation) but you're probably from somewhere that has better employment rights than that (like me) so I understand why you naturally assume she could!

@@micahjohnsonboxing6409 I don't mean I became racist. It can be hard to accuse people of stealing because they can be quite offended if you get it wrong, that leads a lot of shop lifters to get away with it because employees would rather avoid the confrontation. Currently working for Chipotle, going on 2 years now and I can say with confidence that corporate will almost always cut the customers slack. They really take the phrase “the customer is always right” to the grave. It can be disgusting sometimes. I have personally seen customers come in “forgetting” their wallets and management letting them have meals for free. I used to work at McDonald's on night shift as the manager and one night a drunk customer (we had so many of those as we were near three bars) came in and wouldn't comply with basic orders. We ask customers to keep their receipt and show it as proof of purchase when we call in an order as there is between 30 and 50 drunk people all wanting food and it's easy to mishandle an order and give it to someone else... but this guy was having none of it he threw it on the ground and I told him it was important to keep it because that's how we proceeded, he mocked me by imitating me. Now 10-15 minutes passes and he starts yelling that he is hungry and I ask him to see his receipt... to which he replies that he doesn't have it and that I know it. I then ask him what was his order and this dude tells me : "I don't know, it's not my job to know, it's yours." I tell him that I'll see in a couple minute (after the rush) what sandwiches are in the bin (the place where sandwiches stay warm) and I'll give him that since everyone else around him comply and the one remaining would surely go to the one person who doesn't. He then asked another customer couple for their receipt and tried to pass it as his own (it was like 2 Angus meals (one of our most expensive item)) I told him that I knew for a fact that this wasn't his order and trying to have those items with that receipt could be considered fraud. He then took a fit and started being disorderly so I called the police and he was taken away. I got written up by my boss the morning after because the guy called in and made a complaint and my boss took his side saying that I should have did everything in my power to satisfy this customer even if he was drunk, was disorderly, lying, disrespectful and tried to fraud our restaurant. They gave him a bunch of stuff to appease him. So glad I don't work here anymore. Big company will never back their employees.
Firing people unjustly just for PR really rubs me the wrong way... As much as I love Chipotle, I might just decide not to eat there for a while after this. Every dollar you spend is a vote for the kind of world you want to live in.
Of all the stands to take with your money...I'm not defending Chipotle nor am I some kind of radical, but many, many large companies, particularly transnational ones, do far worse on a regular basis. From contribution to deforestation to exploitative labour practices to pollution and CO2 emissions to just tax evasion. And yet bad PR management is where the line is? If you want to compare it to voting, that strikes me as like voting for politicians on how catchy their slogans are.
you eat at chipotle? Gross. Everyone knows the only place to get mexican food is out of a truck.
@@merrymachiavelli2041 I try to vote with my wallet as much as possible, for example Nestle is a terrible company that deserves to go out of business so I don't buy any products of there's if I can help it.
@@merrymachiavelli2041 Ultimately there comes a point where the lack of a truly competitive market limits your ability to vote with your dollar in a practical way because many things that are essential to everyday life come from companies whose business practices are more or less unethical. To take the "vote with your dollar" mindset to the extreme would be too idealistic and unrealistic without a doubt. This is merely an example of a company whose products I can easily live without doing something that I disagree with and me responding to that with my spending decisions. That isn't to say, however, that I ONLY apply this principle to Chipotle.

@LackofEthics It’s sort of a cry for attention - a statement. Just like most of their music. The soundcloud rappers don’t have “good” music like, for instance, the Beatles but it’s catchy and the artists are usually quite..bold people (Flexing, drama, violence etc). This is why their music is quite popular with youth, 6ix9ine in particular.
I used to work at one near by, I live in St. Paul. There was a group of kids usually 5 or so that would always come in and get like $15 bowls. extra meat, guac and queso. When they didn't have money we would say sorry and ask them to leave without their food. Then they would throw up the race card. Race has nothing to do with the consumer relationship in this instance. If you don't have money to pay for something you can't get it, isn't that how stores work? I don't understand why people do this, it wastes everyone's time. It's really dumb to try to steal from them, even little things like soda and sauce bottles, they see everything, the stores are modeled that way for a reason and there's cameras everywhere. Profiling is never ok, but with dumb posts like that, I don't think he's completely innocent in this situation. Also- mumble rappers ruined rainbows from me.
Unfortunately, this is just the world we live in. When people see a way that they can take advantage of other people, they will jump at it. Ali is standing in the shadow of real incidents where sketchy business was actually taking place. Now he muddied the water and will have everyone looking at legitimate incidents like they are bogus. He was identified by the manager and somehow thinks she can't recognize him as someone who has stolen food before. Chipotle did what any business would do. If you are caught on camera and are portrayed in a racist light, you are gone. You have to actually fight to prove your innocence. I've worked in jobs where there are so many of us that we are just numbers. If you cut up, fired and replaced is your reality.
