Judge Simpson is the best. Beyond knowing the law, he gets the bigger picture. He understands human behavior, and can be very empathetic or harsh, depending on circumstances.

I was watching a video of one of his tenancy cases the other day and people in the comments were really downing him. He didn't immediately give the case to the landlord and people were mad. I'd much rather see a case move a little more slowly and the outcome be the correct one. I had to assume they haven't watched many videos of his cases because he truly is one of the best judges we see on YT.

I think the streaming aspect is very important for dispelling myths that movies and TV have created for how court operates. See too many people who come in there and its clear their only knowledge of court is something produced in a studio.

    • @FrenkTheJoy
      @FrenkTheJoy 3 місяці тому +7

And it's great just like it always says on the videos to see what the courts have to deal with *every day.*
For me it's been cool just seeing the spectrum of cases that go before one judge. I didn't really realize that before, that the same judge in one year deals with traffic/driving violations, assaults, landlord/tenant disputes, and debts owed. I thought it was like this judge does traffic, this other judge handles assaults, this judge is a landlord/tenant judge.

Courtrooms should always be open to the public, except only in matters of national security, because whilst it is important that justice is done, it's equally important for society to see that justice done.

California here, I absolutely love watching Judge Simpson. I’m always interested of course all the cases he does. He’s such a sweetie and I noticed under his rope. He wears some nice colorful designed shirts, Not only is Judge Simpson popular but that one case where the guy was driving with a suspended license. That was all over the world on TV news. That case got a lot of more people watching judge Simpson.

I swear this is one thing that drives me crazy about Zoom-court, and personally I believe strict rules should be enforced, because you couldn’t be more right about them deserving Respect!
Without (this system that while admittedly flawed is by far the most JUST) that it’s become so chic to (metaphorically) defecate on our entire society would eat itself, and frankly speaking without the checks and balances holding everything (societally) together our world would be like “The walking Dead” without the zombies (obviously), with the psychopaths and maniacs “IN CHARGE”, and whether or not people will admit it the overwhelming majority of society wouldn’t be able to survive in a world like that.
PS: I’m sure (if anyone bothered reading this much) would probably argue that if our particular “one” collapsed why wouldn’t the next one take our place? But I’d point out that without “the world’s police” that (even if very gradually) everyone else (meaning the rest of NATO) would ultimately lose any global stability and then EVERYTHING CHANGES.
Which I find fundamentally Terrifying (the total Anarchy I mean).

I appreciate that other creator asking the judge for an interview; however, I must say that the interviewer touched on topics he had just said he wouldn’t touch on. I think I prefer the interview style of another creator who knows what is out-of-bounds so that the interview doesn’t have to be pulled. What a lovely little conversation with a reporter. I think Frauditors could learn a lot from this very short clip on how to "gather information for a story". I digress. Judge Simpson says it very succinctly that the pandemic created a whole lot of challenges for the court, but we can carve out the good things that came from it, especially the accessibility of the courts. Yes, courts have always been accessible to the public, yet I've never felt compelled to go sit in one for the day - with the advent of streaming, I've been able to see what goes on within those walls from the comfort of my own home and learn a whole deal about just how the judges, prosecutions, and defence attorneys work and have gained so much more respect for the process.
Never change your ways, Judge Simpson. What a gem of a interaction - good catch there OSG!

I agree with Judge Simpson. I think that having these cases on Zoom and UA-cam is important for people to understand what actually goes on. When I was in High School, many, MANY moons ago, we were required to take a Civics class. Every year, all of the students took a trip to the court and sat in a courtroom to watch the cases. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen any longer, the Civics education, nor the experience of the courts (unless they are unlucky enough to be going THROUGH the process, personally).

I have to say that the courts, you, and other quality creators have taught me much more about the court system than was covered while attaining my bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. The judges I’ve seen in the year since I found out about Zoom court are excellent. It’s funny, and a little sad though, that I know more more about Michigan court proceedings than I do those occurring in my home state of Maryland. I wish there was more transparency and access to courts here. It’s not really possible for me to drive 15 miles one way to attend local court. I wish our Maryland courts would stream.

  • @Unhyphenated

I’m impressed with the court’s ability to balance the dichotomy of personal behaviors with regards to “long distance” zoom court appearances. In more instances than not, defendants do not even dress appropriate for court and the behavior exhibited is shockingly ignorant and sometimes shockingly inappropriate.
As a member of the gallery, I enjoy the learning experience. Some cases delightfully surprise me. Others simply baffling. Attorneys who are -to be kind, inept; defendants ❤pro se sovereign whathaveyou’s; to Mr. Allen all-the-sudden repositioning behind the ‘about to be remanded defendant’; and most of all a wise, temperate, good humored, honorable and kind judge in Simpson. 🏆

I like his point about dispelling myths, in particular about "judges seeking to throw people in jail". Most judges are waaaaay too easy on contempt, as we can see on UA-cam. That's a very quick and easy way to throw you in the clink! Judge Simpson has always worked with defendants that try and show potential. Just yesterday on Mike's channel, Judge Bryant gave yet another chance to someone who had 13 (!!!) failures to appear. That's prime "held on no bond" material here. And we have many more examples from all across the United States, even more "intimidating" states like Texas. Judges don't like jail, they like change and improvement. They often see themselves as people's ultimate opportunity to turn their lives around.
    Thanks for the video!

It always bugs me when people are like "there's no reason there should still be zoom court." As Simpson explained, it's more convenient for everyone so you don't have to have people who are already basically the dregs of society having to lose an entire day's worth of pay to sit in a court room for 5 hours. The place I go to for counseling said that attendance actually went way up when they had to switch to zoom for covid, to the point where they've been working on making it a permanent option.

I hate that too! As the judge was talking about, that whole having to wait a day in court and having to take a day off and all of that is front loaded punishment to somebody who's considered innocent at the time and then beyond that, they still have to deal with what ever fines and jail time that they have once they get found guilty. If we can reduce the front-loaded punishment as much as possible where it doesn't need to be, then I think that's a good thing and zoom helps with that.
