I'm finally decluttering and letting go. The hardest part for me was training my mind to stay in the present.
@@adyromero-hm7qw Hi Ady, what great insight you have. it is all about living in the present and letting go of what once was. By having this attitude, you are able to move forward and create the best life for yourself. Thank you so much for sharing this! Love, Sheila.
Someone once told me that worrying is like praying for something you don't want.

That sounds like a good idea.

If there is 1 thing that I would say to younger folks it is this: The 2nd half of your life goes at least 2 or 3 times faster than the 1st half.

Stay in the moment. Don’t worry about the past-it is gone. Don’t worry about the future. It will be what it will be.

I just found your channel. I love listening to you. I just turned 70. I know one of your secrets is your love of God, as shown since you read scripture! Thank you for sharing your life and wisdom. Ok today I am going to quit worrying and read my Bible daily!
@@psrwhite Hi and thank you so much for your comment and your kind words. You definitely know my secret, I love the Lord and I let him guide my life. It is very hard, not to worry, especially for women, but it is a complete waste of time. I used to worry about everything to the point where it consumed me, but no more, I know without a doubt that my life and my future is in God’s hands, not mine. Love, Sheila.
Wow, you nailed it! At 72 I have adopted so many of these myself. I feel blessed to celebrate every birthday. Each morning I verbalize a gratitude journal entry as I have coffee on my patio. Started this about 9 months ago rather than watching the morning news. A much better way to begin my day. I also agree that while we steer our ship to some degree (staying active, making healthier choices most of the time, etc), we are not in control of the ocean. They say sugar is bad, but I think that stress, self-criticism, anxiety….about aging, beauty and health has to be as bad or worse for us. And yes, my skin has changed, my hair has thinned a bit, gravity has visited, and laugh lines have a permanent home…….But I have my health ,my husband of over 53 years, my children, friends, etc. So life is good and I want to enjoy this time as long as I can. Love your channel❤🥰
@@bobbiewilliams5101 Hi Bobbie, thank you so much for your insightful comment, I love it! You start your day like I do, with complete gratitude for every little thing. I wake up extremely early in the wee hours of the morning and always go outside on my back patio to have my coffee and talk to God. Oh Bobbie, I couldn’t agree with you more about stress, anxiety, and self criticism being just as bad and most likely worse than eating sugar. Sometimes people focus on the wrong things too much and they miss the things right in front of their face. You have a fantastic attitude about aging, and I would take wrinkles and saggy, baggy, crepey skin anytime, just to be here for my husband, children, and grandchildren. I am so thankful that you are enjoying my channel and I thank you for sharing that with me. Love, Sheila.
You made my day! First time seeing your video. I'm in my 70s and what I do is "DON'T" argue with nobody! Children, family, friends etc. I have always had my own mind. You don't like what I do, Oh well! I have let so many people in my life Go. Whatever you believe in. I feel God has me here for a "Purpose" and I believe that purpose is helping others. That's what I enjoy doing. I make mistakes but I keep going. Thanks for inspiring me. Great video
Hi Rosita, thank you so much for your comment and for being here. You are my kind of girl, standing your ground and not caring what others think. God created you and all of us to be who we are, not to try to copy someone else or follow the crowd. I also believe that I am here to serve God by helping others and it brings me great joy. We all make mistakes but we don’t let them stop us. I thank you for inspiring others and I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the video. Love, Sheila.
Yes the wonderful thing about getting older is not worrying about what others think ❤
@@ThePossumone Hi and thank you so much for your comment. That is one of the absolute best things about aging, you no longer care what others think. Sorry for your loss, that is something that a lot of us are going to endure. I'm 69 and my husband will soon be 72. Every morning that we wake up is a good day.
I quit dieting. I am carrying some extra weight and went up a size in the past 2 years. Now at 76, I don't plan to do another Jenny Craig or other similiar weight loss plan. First time I have ran across your channel. I really enjoyed it. At 67 I have less time to worry than the time that is behind me. I too do everything as you have mentioned. I just turned 68, and this is the best advice I have heard about getting older. Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Right on!
@@jdimarti Hi and thank you so much for your comment. Getting older has its challenges. It also brings great freedom. When we get into our 60s, 70s and beyond, we don’t have to make excuses for who we are. We can accept ourselves and live our lives on our own terms and be grateful for the lessons we learned. Thank you so much for your kind words! Love, Sheila.
I'm 72, thanks for your ideas, I do agree ,let go of things, I've always worried about what my kids have felt of there upbringing, and sometimes felt guilty, but I know I did the best I thought at the time, so I have stopped worrying about things I can't change, x🇬🇧
Hi Marilyn, thank you so much for your comment and it is nice to meet you. I am so happy for you that you have stopped worrying about how your kids felt about their upbringing. We can be very hard on ourselves, especially when we know we made mistakes and we all certainly have. I believe our grown children know how much we love them and that we did the very best we knew how to do. if your children have children of their own, have no doubt that they question and worry about the same thing as you have. Love, Sheila
I've spent the most of this day hashing this over and over. I remembered I forgot to take my antidepressant earlier because I slept in later than usual. Took it and I'm coming out of that self-doubt and rehashing this or that situation from 20-30 yrs ago. Thank you for the reinforcement that it is what it is. We did the best we knew to do and some people are never happy with you no matter what. That's on them, bless their little hearts. ❤
@@TreasureDeal Sometimes we can have good intentions and yet still do something that upsets someone. We are all flawed And we messed up throughout our lives. When we know better, we do better and we have to keep going. each day that we wake up and are still here, we have another opportunity to get it right. Other people do not have to forgive us, but we must forgive ourselves and continue to be the best person we can be. Love, Sheila.
Wow! Excellent video and I do agree with your ten points. It’s funny, just today I was thinking about how critical I am towards myself.
Hi Joy, I am so happy that you enjoyed the video and I thank you for sharing that with me. Oh my goodness, we can all be so hard on ourselves and so very critical. I have done that for many years and then came to a point of realizing what I was doing. Now I just reassure myself that I did the best I can and I know I make the effort each and every day to be the best person I can be and that is good enough. Thank you so much for your comment! Much love, Sheila.
Hi Sheila. These 10 things you quit has been so helpful to hear. It makes me feel like giving me permission to let go of stuff I keep hanging on to. Some stuff is gifts and things that I spent money on. Also sentimental stuff. I don’t even plan to use them again. Always just in case. Then worrying about the future. I can’t control that. Thank you for this video. It has really helped me. God bless you and Dave. You are an amazing lady! ❤🤗🙏🏻
Hi Lucy, thank you so much for your comment and for sharing. I think many of us have trouble letting go of things. I used to hang onto things for too long, especially if they were gifts or had sentimental value. I will always remember the special things I have received in my life, and I realized I did not have to keep them to remember them. I never wanted to get rid of something only to have to rebuy it, which was never the case. I still have a few special things that I hang onto, but I have let go of so much. Realizing that we cannot predict or control our future makes it so much easier to quit worrying about it. I am so pleased that you enjoyed the video and I thank you for sharing that with me and I also thank you for your very kind words. Love and blessings, Sheila.
Very good advice and so true! Worrying is very unhealthy!
Hi Cathy, thank you so much for your comment. Worrying can put such a strain on your mental health, and I used to do plenty of it. I no longer worry about things that I have no control over and I have so much peace because of it. Love, Sheila.
Love the name of your channel!! Your #10 I need to work into my life! I had a stroke last year that I needed 2 weeks rehab at a hospital then 6 more weeks at home. Im not as bad as I was with my worrying about my health. Each Dr I saw while in the hospital told me it wasn’t IF I was going to have another stroke it is WHEN I’m going to have it. Words I surely didnt need to hear because of how I worry about being a burden to my son. Ive always taken care of myself with my diet so blood work is always really good. Exercise? Not so much. I am purging my belongings more often. Love your channel, subscribed!
Hi and thank you so much for your comment and your very kind words. doctors have it all wrong when it comes to dealing with their patients, he should’ve never said that to you. If they practice a little kindness, understanding and encouragement, they would be much better human beings. I don’t believe your son would ever say or feel that you were a burden. My mother had dementia and I was her caregiver. It was never a burden to me, it was an honor to care for her. I am also purging again, I did it years ago, but it is an ongoing job and the more I do it, the more relief and peace I have. I feel that leaving our children with a huge mess to have to go through after we pass away is the biggest burden we can place on them and I will not do that to my kids. Love, Sheila.
I was browsing through UA-cam and came across your video. It is the first I saw you. I listened to this video and it touched my heart deeply. I am 75 years old will be 76 in March. Thank you for sharing all these ten things. It takes away a lot of stress. We worry about things that sometimes never happens. Only God knows when we take our last breath so we keep on living and stop worrying about every little thing. God bless you.
Hi Margie, thank you so much for your comment. I am so grateful that this video touched you and I appreciate you sharing that with me. Sometimes we put so much stress and anxiety on ourselves worrying about things. We have absolutely no control over. We think we know things, but the truth is that only God knows our future. By focusing on what we are worried about, we are missing the beauty and the gift of each and every day. I walk 5 to 7 miles each day and I dance for an hour. I never gave myself any time, always giving to others, but now I do, take time for myself each day and it is very rewarding. I am the one that should have a high sugar level because I love sweets. I really enjoyed this video. I look forward to your videos. They are inspiring.
I have changed a lot since I realized I am indeed getting older. I don't worry about my age anymore and I don't worry about my health anymore. Oh yes, I try to live halfway healthy, but I don't worry about it like I used to. I realize my time keeps getting shorter, so I try to enjoy & appreciate every moment I have. I try to live mindfully & realize the good I have & enjoy it. I try to be positive & enjoy life. I try not to care what others think or if someone doesn't like me. At the same time, I try to be nice & kind & compassionate; that's the way I want to be remembered.
I try to celebrate every birthday and every holiday, because I never know when it'll be my last.
I will be 62 (retirement age!) In October. Seems so unreal. I quit worrying about certain things so that I can live more happily.
I have all the factors stacked against me, as far as aging. For example I am a veteran, and I heard they age much faster than the average person, especially those with PTSD. I heard their average lifespan is 67.
I also have had a very stressful life, which I won't get into. They say stress causes a person to age faster. Therefore, I just try to enjoy life and not worry. Sometimes I catch myself being a people pleaser and worrying about what others would think. Then I realize, I need to do me, even if I am eccentric to them, and let them do them. Because I plan to enjoy my remaining time to the fullest of my ability. (I went home on vacation in July 2024 - I hadn't been home in 34 years. That trip was so stress-free, relaxing, fun, and enjoyable.)
Hi An, thank you so much for your comment and your kind words and please forgive the very late response. Isn’t it a wonderful gift to receive wisdom and freedom as we age. God has given you great insight, and you have applied it to your life and the way you think about things. Please don’t worry about aging faster because you are a veteran, although there may be some truth to those statistics, you will not die a moment sooner or a moment later than what God has in his plan. I am so happy that you took a vacation and went home, and had such a wonderful stress-free time. 34 years is a long time and most people would have had trepidation over that. You, however, set all that aside and received so much joy from that trip. That says a lot about you, and it is all good!much love, Sheila
I am 65 and was a life-long people pleaser. I honestly would try to make mostly people in my family and extended family, like in-laws happy. I cared about what they thought more than I cared about what I thought. 🫤. Getting Parkinson’s has turned out to be a blessing. It has turned my eyes, efforts and energy off of them-and back onto myself. I am finally learning that I matter too. Listening to your videos is giving me confidence to be a bit selfish in a good, healthy way. I was bought up to never think about my own needs. That might be how I got this dumb disease in the first place. 🙄🙄. So thank you Shelia. You are the sweet friend all of us need.❤️🙌
Hi Julianna, thank you so much for your comment. I did a video on being a people pleaser, but I realized I really wasn’t one because I like to help people and I like to be there for people so I consider myself an empath. You sound like a very kind person, so maybe you are an empath as well. I am so happy that you know that you matter and that you count and that you are making you a priority. I believe we were both brought up and never think of our own needs and if we did, the guilt was a heavy burden to carry. thankfully, we now know that it is not our responsibility to make someone else happy, each person is responsible for their own happiness. Hi Shelia,I just watched you for the first time, and I loved it, I’m 78, and I’ve quit some of those things, but still doing most of them, so this is very enlightening!, I really enjoyed it, I watched it a second time, and wrote them down, the memory is not the best anymore 😂 I love sweets, but am overweight, and when I go into a facility I don’t want them to say “ oh god another heavyweight!, there goes my back “ I used to to work in the health industry!, 😂 😮so I need to lose some weight, I am downsizing so my Son, and Granddaughter won’t have to do everything, selling, and giving some away, I am grateful for every day! Thank You, Bless You, going to watch more of your videos! ♥️♥️
Hi Elizabeth, thank you so much for your comment and please forgive my late response. I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the video and hope that it helps in someway. Most of us spent the majority of our life trying to do the things that we are told to do, trying to do the right thing, etc. I am not doing that anymore. There is not much sand left in the hourglass so I am just enjoying my life, I have a video coming out today about getting rid of stuff, decluttering. I know exactly what you mean about leaving your loved ones a big mess to have to sort through, especially while they are grieving for your loss. I think it is cruel and so unnecessary because we don’t need half the stuff we have. Thank you for sharing that you are enjoying my videos, that means a lot to me and I really appreciate you. Unfortunately we have to reach 70 to realize all this. We get trapped in work, raising money, family, trying to impress people with our looks and our carriers.
We put our goals first and forget all about the fact that life is short and we must live in the moment.
@@GeoP3304 Hi and thank you so much for your comment. So grateful I found you🙏🏼. You are correct I believe in what you say about worry. It’s true that what we fear we create. We are after all what we think about. Thoughts have power. Tremendous power. Fantastic video Sheila!! Such great tips. I am working hard still at all the decluttering because, like you shared in previous videos, it isn’t fair to leave all your stuff for your family to clear out. I’m finding my stress lessened by each thing that goes out the door. Also working on doing more of what makes me happy, especially thinking of the future years like where I want to live. I agree with everything except the fashion videos. I’m still going to watch those styles that keep me classic, elegant and timeless in a modern way. I do change my makeup and hair but I do me!! I do what I like and I like your attitude about being real
@@Avoid_Low_Frequency Hi and thank you so much for your comment. Some of the fashion channels can be very helpful, but the ones that tell me, I can’t wear this or that, what I can and can’t do if I’m over 70, or what makes me look too old or too young just get on my nerves. I don’t want to be anything but me, and I know that my style isn’t for everybody, but it reflects my personality and who I am. It sounds like you know the look that you want, and that is all that matters, that you were being true to yourself and do you. that is what it is all about. Thank you so much for your kind words. @@nellytamayo3414 Hi Nelly, thank you so much for your comment and I’m very grateful that you found me . I used to be a habitual worrier, I worried about everything and everybody. I was like that most of my life. By the grace of God, it does not rule me anymore. I could have never changed it on my own, it just happened. I do have stress in my life however I’m pretty good at managing it. Sometimes it is just our life experiences that make the difference and flip that switch for us. I was the caregiver for my mother and also my sister. They died last year six months apart. My motherwas elderly, 96 and died of old age and dementia. My sister was only three years older than me and was diagnosed with cancer so she really suffered and had to have all the treatments. Although it was extremely stressful and I worried constantly that she wouldn’t make it, when it came time for me to step up to the plate and care for her, stress was on the back burner because I was only focused on and dedicated to keeping her comfortable and caring for her. It is amazing to me that with the most worrisome and stressful time, that is when it left me. Instead, all I could think about, was being there for her and seeing her through the dying process until the end came. Love, Sheila.
A GOOD LIST :) and I learned to forgive myself. its good for the soul.
