Today I'm sharing 45 things I quit to majorly simplify my life! These are ideas of things I'm doing to live a more simple, minimal life :) #minimalism #simplelife #cleaning #decluttering Items mentioned: Liquid soap containers/dispensers: amzn.to/47s7pPR (pack of 3!) Rebounder/trampoline: urlgeni.us/amz... (**use this code for 10% off! OL37ABVN). The BEST nail polish I've ever found: amzn.to/3MKCsNA
I’m almost 81 years old. I did all the yard work and housework. I’m also my husbands full time caregiver. In June I made decision to hire someone to clean my house every two weeks and someone to do yard work. Has helped tremendously. It also keeps me on my toes to not let things pile up. Also I don’t let things fall to the wayside like before.
I'm 77, and have done nearly the same...help with the house, hoping to soon have help with the yard. I care for my 98 year old mother, who still lives close in her home, plus my husband. I was exhausted. Ridiculous. Life's too short, and I'm tired.
So many of these things I've actually never done. I want to simplify my life, but I realize when I watch all these types of videos I have the most simple life ever. I am doing clutterbugs declutter challenge and also realize I've simplified my belongings and my home. I guess I am a very simple person that don´t need much.
@@likeargamanflaming940lol. My granddaughter uses more of my makeup in one session (she's four, lol) than I do in a year!!! She has the best time and Dawn Powerwash takes in all away. I use castor oil to clean her skin!
Agree with all of these except pets....my animals are the reason for my minimalism so that I can have them and have more time to spend with them (and more time with people I love also, of course).
My favorite color to wear is blue so I decided that my neutral is blue and I have it in all shades. Now, it's easier to decide what to wear bc dressing in a monotone is more stylish and classy, and it makes me look thinner. If I want to have a pop of color, I pair my blues with a different color scarf, hat, or other accessories. I am more confident in how I dress now while they take up less space in my closet!
Love this! I also love wearing blue. I have a video coming out this Saturday morning and how to build a minimal capsule wardrobe for fall you might like!
I do so many of these same things too :) Pick outfit the night before, vitamins in kitchen, don't answer unknown numbers, I have one pair of slippers, flip flops, boots, flats; my husband and I wear the same black socks, I empty my car every time, I have a few cleaners, Window, multi-use, wood cleaner; I also 'wash it all on cold', we also have not gotten a new pet (we feed the neighborhood cats and urban wildlife). You have so many fantastic ideas that I need to subtract from my life :) Thank you!
At age 77, I don’t fold my kitchen tea towels any longer. I just stuff them in their drawer. Nobody sees it except me and it doesn’t bother me. Works for me.
Taryn! Absolutely agree with EVERYTHING! Even the HARD 😢ones like no pets.. told my daughter that she could have a dog or 20,000 pounds ( 2,000 pounds all costs per year) in the bank for a down payment on a large ticket item in 10 years. She cares for other people’s pets and has just put a down payment on a sea side cottage.❤
We’re going to have leave the high consumerism era. Let’s face it with bills going up so high we won’t have any extra money for ‘luxuries’. Simplifying your life will be good for us too.
Absolutely brilliant! You’ve simplified your life in every aspect. It’s so freeing, isn’t it! Reacting only hurts you. Just as being angry with someone but not telling them why or just refusing to speak to them. The body keeps score, let it go. Life’s too short to spend it negatively. Our kids are grown and on their own now but my husband and I still play games like we did with the kids. It’s fabulous fun. I will say I can’t live without a dog though. I’ve always had a dog and absolutely love them. I have to vacuum anyway, I live on a dirt road.
I wrote your list while watching your video. I’ve quit doing most of these too. 🔲A few things I want to work on: 1. Electronics before bed. 2. Filling in the time. 🔲A few thoughts about some of the quits. 1. I’ve used the same facial cleaning products since the 1980s. I’ve added a serum. 2. I quit wearing make-up about 13 years ago. I discovered people didn’t notice when I wasn’t wearing it. I’m a brunette - now gray - with long dark eyelashes. Good skincare routine kept my face nice enough. 3. Buying unplanned purchases. For 30+ years we’ve planned major purchases at the beginning of the year. A few years ago - we began doing an annual purchase plan to replace worn or unloved items and fill gaps in needs. Categories: wardrobe, home goods (linens, towels, dishes, decor, etc.), home repairs & maintenance, electronics, office supplies, healthcare equip/supplies, outdoor equip/supplies, & vehicle repairs/maint. We also track unexpected expenses & impulse buys. And… any changes in financial matters we want to make. This stops a lot of impulse buys. 4. Leaving every day items around - I’ve made it a nightly habit to walk-thru the house and pick-up, put-away things out of place. But, I’ve always been good to put things away after using them. (My husband… not so much.) Everything has a home. 5. Area rugs. We use them. But, I’ve reduced the number. 6. Dieting. I’m still dieting - I needed to. But it’s becoming more of simply being the way I eat. I make a lot of my own items too. It’s fresh. There’s no or fewer additives. 7. We buy fewer prepared foods. A rotisserie chicken now & then. 8. Rarely order take-out. Pizza & wings occasionally. And, brisket & ribs from a local small restaurant. 9. Sorting laundry. We still do. There’s just 2 of us. Load a day. Sheets, towels, lights, darks, an extra item from my zone of the week (blanket, throw, rug) 10. Soaps in original containers. I successfully took the labels off a small bottle of Dawn and a Dawn forming pump. (Blue goes with my kitchen decor.) I buy a big jug of Dawn and refill these. Same thing with hand soap in the bathroom. 🔲Just found your channel. New subscriber.
I have discovered that dish soap is perfect for almost everything. Discovery of my life!😂 I make my bread, a simple recepe with loads of grains , and bake it in the oven. I make 3 at a time, slice the breads before freezing them. Prepare the vegetables after shopping ( once a week only). Gain of time and money+ I know what ingredients are used... As far as exercise is concerned, I walk as much as possible, and that s it, great shape, never sick! And I practice that marvelous sentence: Nothing to polish, literal translation of a French expression meaning Don t give a damn!( old expression used by sailors who no longer wanted to work when they had finished waxing the deck) . It makes me laugh and is extremely therapeutic😂
I do most of these, but am always open to learning more. I LOVE that you put in all native plants. Not just because they are easier to maintain but because it is so important to the native pollinators to have their necessary native food sources. I live in the woods but in the cleared areas have planted loads of natives.
Hummus is so easy to make, you can buy 6 cans of chickpeas for $6 and make tons of it. Can of chickpeas, a tablespoon of tahini, a little olive oil, garlic, some lemon juice. It only takes 5 minutes to make. Pesto is also insanely overpriced and easy to make. You can use walnuts and nutritional yeast instead of pine nuts and parmesan.
You can make it even less expensive, buy a bag of dried garbanzo beans, soak overnight, and cook in a pressure cooker, then use like you would, canned beans
Loved this video. New subscriber here! The travel teams is something that I am thinking of quitting. Oh and the manicures. I was so happy to hear someone else feel like you don’t like wasting time going!
Awesome, I am so glad you're here! Honestly the travel teams are too much - not only for the kids but also for you! My thought, unless the kids are amazingly talented, it's just too time consuming and stressful!
I so agree with you about the fridge and produce. I have thrown away so much money because we didn't see and use the produce. I also now leave it where I can see it.
You know, that’s a great idea. I had thought about it before, but wasn’t sure if anyone was interested but if you are - I’ll definitely make a video like that!
Prepare shopping list gradually in advance by jotting down items when fully or nearly used-up... Sort washing gradually in advance when going into washing basket.
I made a grooming bag with tweezers, nail clippers, bikini stuff, exfoliate, razor etc. I can get it out every few weeks. Prior to this I would just randomly think to do it and then have to go find the things.
I will separate my laundry forever, one day I was like, I'm just going to wash everything together" and I ruined a few white pieces that I used to love
Good point! Also, your white clothes will take on a gray cast if you regularly wash them with dark clothes. I have two hampers - one for lights and one for darks. Simple solution! It's been working for me for close to 50 years!
Can you tell us more about your lawn to native garden process? I'm so inspired when I see full thriving native gardens but I'd like to hear more about how you get to that point!
I wish I could have done a video on it but it did it many years before I started UA-cam! In a nutshell, I have a very tiny front lawn and I dug up all the grass with a shovel. It took many days. And then over two summers I planted native plants - many of them I bought from a local garden shop but I also got a lot free from Facebook groups. It was a big effort but now my garden is very low maintenance, the plants are established, and it's full of bees! I'll admit it doesn't look super tidy - it's very robust - but I know it's a great habitat!
I started rebounding too & do the “I jump instead” UA-cam classes, they are great. So fun and rebounding is so good for lymphatic drainage😊great video, I’m a new subscriber & a fellow minimalist🖤🧘🏻♀️
You have many good ideas in this video. You are not weird at all. I've made some changes too, to try to make my life a little easier. Some stuff works, some stuff... well, I keep trying. I enjoyed this video. 😊❤
Quit leaving things in the car was my favourite. My partner uses my car a lot and I don't care (too much) about the garbage he leaves in there. However, there are thieves around that check vehicles at night and I don't want them breaking a window to get at a quarter.
Good video! Always like your videos! You have good practical tips/advice for folks to try or get inspiration from. I have quit most of the things you mentioned. I quit putting up a large Christmas tree about 6 years ago and stopped putting as much decor up as well. I just put up a 3-foot tree. Our kids are grown, and grandson is 15 now. I decided that was too much work especially since I have to deal with carrying stuff upstairs from the basement garage. Makes things a lot simpler and easier.
Diet definition: the kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats. As a whole We are ALWAYS on some type of diet, but most people associate diet with restrictions to loose weight. Now she found a diet that works for her even though she is not calling it a diet: Whole foods, fruit, vegetable and proteins and limiting process food.
FYI if you have a grandparent or someone that would use a smart speaker to call you in an emergency like a fall, it may show up as an unknown number. Very specific scenario, but it happened to me.
I quit makeup a few years ago and have never looked back. I keep a powdered concealer for special occasions but nothing beats the feeling of allowing your skin to breathe and being able to rub your eyes without fear of makeup smudging! I had problem skin growing up so now relish being able to not wear makeup when most of my teens were spent hiding behind foundation!
I'm 66 years old and I've never worn make-up. My skin is clear and healthy. I also never put anything on my face except plain water. So far, so good, and I've saved a LOT of time and money!
@@HissNHer I have a scary but funny story about makeup. In november of 2008, I had a gallstone lodged in my liver duct. I literally turned yellow! Prior to that, I thought I needed make up. After being yellow before my surgery, I decided my natural skin tone looked pretty good! I haven't used much make up since!
Buying unplanned purchases...now that we are really living one salary due to moving...I really need to do better. I'm with you on hiding fruit in a drawer. We are doing so much better finishing them when they are visible! Thanks for a great video.
I found myself nodding my head to almost all of these! One thing I do for laundry is wash by type of clothes so it's easier to finish the loads all the way - pants/socks/underwear together then tops/bras/pj's. When they are done drying - socks/underware get thrown in a basket and the bottoms get hung up on their hangers (I use clip style hangers for them). Similar for bras and pajamas -they get thrown in the basket then shirts are hung on hangers. I keep all the hangers by the dryer and lay the items out on top of the dryer as I put the hangers on them. Socks, underware, bras and pajamas each have their own basket in my closet (none of these items get folded or sorted). Then I can just hang the rest. I found this is the least amount of friction so that I will actually finish the load all the way and not have the clothes in the dryer that I pull out when they're clean 😁
Omg! This is wild to hear someone else with identical lifehacks to mine! Been doing pretty much all of the above listed about 30 years, now. I love it! Do life from scratch. To not sorting laundry and baking bread🥂 😅
I rarely wear makeup as a housewife and student. I study at home. When I go to work, I will wear makeup. I have been removing junk from my car. It's nice to have it cleaner. My medications and supplements are in my kitchen, too. I hate wearing socks. We are debt free. I pay $200 or less weekly on our electric, wifi, cell, water, insurance, and husband's train ticket. I put money aside for everything else. I have a running grocery list. I make all that stuff, too. In other words I agree with your list.
Also jumping on the rebou der help tremendously with the lymphatic system, it helps detox your body faster and better and it also helps with getting rid/diminishes cellulite
Thanks so much for sharing your list, I will be doing a few of them (how you hang your jeans, staying off reels, and reducing the time the tv stays on...I really don't need the background noise). Only thing I disagree with/do differently is getting rid of appliance manuals... well let's say major appliance manuals. I put those in a file labeled manuals. I find I do refer to those manuals on a regular basis, especial at first. For instance I recently got a new washer... wow what a learning curve! The new machine is nothing like my old one. Anywho, that's just me. Blessings to you!
I use all these tips plus one more which is controversial. I quit balancing my checking account. I have a Cushion Amount in there so I don’t get overdrawn. I always know approximately what my balance is and I go online to check the activity and balance
Black socks are the worse. You think that they would all match but they don't. They are never the same black, the elastic is different... Give colourful socks any day. Much easier.
Ha….i kept waiting for you to get to the “weird” stuff. Nope. Just good, common sense here. 👍🏻 I’m applauding your Resources comment - I am easily irked when folks run their faucets needlessly. Gotta work with the limits of a septic system at my home. I’m working on that laundry advice by taking washing and drying down to “medium” temps. TV - completely agree! Frees up a lot of time once that’s gone. Great post, thanks!
Your ideas are great. I already follow some of them. Out of the 45 things, in my opinion, you only need to change one thing for your health and that is try to cook everyday. I mean try to eat your meals on the same day when you cook.
I really love this. Can you do a video on how to organize your files & photos? I have several online storage subscriptions. I rarely sign in. None are organized. I just want a simple way. How am I going to go through it all and organize? I need to clean up my macbook vs. buy a new one. Please help.
I haven't owned a TV in years. I "re-gift" items I don't want/need or donate them. I mix vinegar & water in a spray bottle for cleaning. A natural look is more beautiful, imo. Not a fan of heavy makeup or fake lashes. I do my own nails, cook my own food. I want to know what goes into my body. Thanks for these common sense tips!
I love my collection of colored socks. They're easy to sort out of the dryer. I pick the color that matches my outfit. Kathy B I do not decant products. It's too much hassle.
I like most of your tips but I’ve got to say my native plants still require quite a bit of work if I want them to look their best and have them stick to my entry pathway
very good tips, thirst should not be underestimated as your guide , your body telling you, be comfortable hydrate adequately, children + most adults love familiar food, a seasonal 3 week rotation of meals is ideal and economical, electronic and phone discipline very good for stress and sleep , wow commuter reduction, garden modification, less sport participation, pets ,gifts, well thought out and impressive , give yourself time to day dream
Wait until you get older (menopause), also depends on climate where you live.. I need to wash my face mornings and evenings.. in morning in summer sweat at night (no aircon in Europe), or dry skin in Winter.. so I wash with warm water, wipe, then put really cold water on.. then cream with sun protection. Night same.. warm then cold water, then moisturising cream. Never use soap.
I started just using a round cotton pad with witch hazel on it am & pm. The kind I get has hyaluronic acid in it and moisturizers, so it cleans, moisturizes at the same time. It makes my skin feel great and fewer steps!
Misusing skincare products, whether they’re wrong products or using them out of order isn’t a valid reason to not use them. I shower, wash my face & moisturizer every morning- why?… to clean my body from having slept on a bed/sheets where there are dust mites & dead skin cells. Taking care of myself is high on my priority list.
The main thing about the face is keep it clean. Esp as older i find that my pores get clogged esp in the wrinkles. My sis used to wear a full mask of makeup. At 62 she stopped. Her skin looks good. I think the makeup protected her face. She was outside alot.

@@RC_17 yay! I’m so glad you’re here 😊❤️
You have many good ideas in this video. You are not weird at all. I've made some changes too, to try to make my life a little easier. Some stuff works, some stuff... well, I keep trying. I enjoyed this video. 😊❤
Thank you so much!! ❤️
Quit leaving things in the car was my favourite. My partner uses my car a lot and I don't care (too much) about the garbage he leaves in there. However, there are thieves around that check vehicles at night and I don't want them breaking a window to get at a quarter.
So true - I even had someone break our back window all for an empty grocery shopping bag 😩
Thank you for the reminder.
Thank you for sharing! 😊❤️
Thank you for sharing!
I did not know this!
Reacting! That's a great topic! I also no longer respond to subtext. And no longer give unsolicited advice 😂
Yes! Great ideas!
YES...I AGREE with everything you said....im trying to let things go amd simplify my life.....ty. Great video ❤
Thank you! 😊 ❤️
I so agree about rubbing your eyes and face, and not having to worry about it!
I'm 66 years old and I've never worn make-up. My skin is clear and healthy. I also never put anything on my face except plain water. So far, so good, and I've saved a LOT of time and money!
@@HissNHer I have a scary but funny story about makeup. In november of 2008, I had a gallstone lodged in my
liver duct. I literally
turned yellow! Prior to that, I thought I needed make up. After being yellow before my surgery, I decided my natural skin tone looked pretty good! I haven't used much
make up since!
Buying unplanned purchases...now that we are really living one salary due to moving...I really need to do better. I'm with you on hiding fruit in a drawer. We are doing so much better finishing them when they are visible! Thanks for a great video.
You are so welcome! 😊❤️
Great tips, except I separate whites from darks to wash and I have 2 cats that I love😁
Thank you for sharing!!
You always simplify tough topics so well!
Thank you Victoria!!
Very good video with down to earth suggestions and advice 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻!!!
Thanks so much! ☺
I love everything you are saying...
Thank you so much!
What great ideas, thank you for sharing!
I use the socks tip! It’s the best!
Awesome!
Omg! This is wild to hear someone else with identical lifehacks to mine! Been doing pretty much all of the above listed about 30 years, now. I love it! Do life from scratch. To not sorting laundry and baking bread🥂 😅
Wow amazing!!!! Love it 😊
I rarely wear makeup as a housewife and student.
Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for simplifying things so well!
Thank you!
Each person in our family does their own laundry it saves on sorting the laundry it's so much easier keeping it each person's laundry separate
Great idea!
That works as long as no one leaves their laundry in the washer or dryer for someone else to move through. They know who they are!
Same! I also taught the kids to make their own breakfast. They are all good cooks now :)
I just found you today. Thanks for sharing your GREAT ideas. AMEN SISTER❤
Yay, awesome!! ☺❤
I agree and do almost all u mentioned except sorting laundry..
Thank you!
Also jumping on the rebou der help tremendously with the lymphatic system, it helps detox your body faster and better and it also helps with getting rid/diminishes cellulite
Yes! Thank you for sharing ☺
Thank you for sharing! Wishing you luck! I think the not watching reels one is going to be SO helpful!!
@@tarynmaria_ Agreed! The amount of time I waste/lose watching reels is HUGE! Thanks again!!!
I had no idea they made indoor trampolines. I’m going to look into that!
It is called a rebounder. BCAN brand is good.
@@michelesusanne1 Thanks for the info!
Yes! They are such a good workout (fun and low impact)!
I use all these tips plus one more which is controversial. I quit balancing my checking account. I have a Cushion Amount in there so I don’t get overdrawn. I always know approximately what my balance is and I go online to check the activity and balance
Ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Time is very limited for some people, including caregivers
Thank you for sharing!
I do the same and have for years!
Love you and your content!!
Thank you so much, Debbie!
Black socks are the worse. You think that they would all match but they don't. They are never the same black, the elastic is different... Give colourful socks any day. Much easier.
Thank you for sharing!
Socks are the bane of my existence. How can I have 30 unmatched socks???
@@lgarner9524 I think my odd socks take off with my scrunchies/elastics, and every once in a while a pair of scissors joins them 😅
I started storing my supplements next to my refrigerator too! Best thing ever!
So convenient!
Thank you so much!! 😊
Hi Taryn, I love your tips. I'm already doing some of them. Others I need to put them to practice. Thank you
You are so welcome! ☺❤
Your ideas are great. I already follow some of them. Out of the 45 things, in my opinion, you only need to change one thing for your health and that is try to cook everyday. I mean try to eat your meals on the same day when you cook.
I so agree! Thank you for sharing!!
I batch cook and reheat food hope that’s okay
U said it all. The best instructions. Love u lady..,,, god bless you.
Thank you, Susanna!!
I really love this. Can you do a video on how to organize your files & photos? I have several online storage subscriptions. I rarely sign in. None are organized. I just want a simple way. How am I going to go through it all and organize? I need to clean up my macbook vs. buy a new one. Please help.
Yes - great idea, thank you!!
Agree with you…and I don’t do most of these anyway
Your advice is the best, no need to say more!
Cheers from Perth Western Australia!
Thank you so much!
I do the same sock tip!!
Awesome!
Never use vinegar on granite or other natural stone, it will dull and etch it.
Thank you!
No need to sort the laundry when you have a bin for each. Colors, whites and darks. 3 bins in each closet. Works great and the kids can do their own.
Thank you for sharing!
These are the best tips...very doable. Thanks so much
You are so welcome! ☺
You are so welcome!

Thank you! I do splash water in the morning but I don’t use any soap or face wash 😊
