More than 50 years since her death and that amazing voice is still used in commercials or as background in some movie or TV drama, and it is recognizable the second you hear it. TECHNICALLY speaking Vaughan or Fitzgerald might be better, although I don't personally think so. Nina Simone may have TOUCHED genius, but it certainly wasn't her consistent companion. And perhaps Billie Holiday remains the most celebrated, exalted name in female jazz history, but my God ---- it was and is PAINFUL to hear her sing!
