Yes, it would have been great. I'm a person who likes to hear it from the person, not stories of what other people said about her. Nobody has any way of knowing what she was thinking at any given time or what her emotions were. People making these videos didn't live with her. They would have no way of knowing about her taking pills and boozed in the privacy of her home. Her videos are always the same stories repeated over and over again. I don't pay any attention to the Gerri Branton interviews. She died 18 years ago. I think she was full of sh-t. In all of her interviews she never had one complimentary thing to say about Miss Dandridge. The Peter Lawford story that she tells sounds like bullsh't to me. I don't believe he would have felt the need to explain that he didn't have a big trust fund. It is true that Preminger didn't think she was right for the role of Carmen at first and she did return to his office with the right wardrobe for the role of Carmen but Both he and Miss Dandridge lived in the LA area. How many times would he have seen her walking down 5TH Ave. in New York. That part of the Donald Bogle story doesn't make any sense. Earl Mills was supposed to pick her up and take her to the doctor about her foot, not the airport. There were no notes found in her apartment. Earl Mills already had the note mentioned. It was considered a will. it's been pointed out that medication during that time, the '60s, didn't have the warning labels that they have today, about maximum dosage, and mixing medication with other medication or alcohol. Consequently, there were a lot of sudden deaths such as hers, Nick Adams, Dinah Washington Pier Angeli, Judy Garland, Robert Walker. and Alan Ladd.

Dorothy Dandridge was the most amazing actress but as a divorced parent she that suffered with the guilt of having surrendered her parental rights of her daughter due to financial issues surrounding her not having the income to pay for the stay and maintenance of her TMH (Trainable Mentally Handicap) daughter in facility that takes cares for her child. Dorothy NEVER got over it. Everyday, people are investigated by government agencies regarding whether or not a person is a suitable parent for children that are not disable, but it is rare when a parent loses their disabled child for not being able to afford the facility the houses and care of TMH children. I have a TMH child that isn't in a facility that houses and care for children with extreme disabilities. I believe that such place are very cold and impersonal when it comes to nurturing a TMH child and or children with extreme disabilities. We as people need to support those parents to choose to personally take care of their own TMH and or extremely disabled children. Be there is no place like HOME! God willing we can help that person by simply saying keep your head up you are doing a good job!
I hate to break it to anyone who thinks that Dorothy Dandridge was of mixed race. Both of her parents, Cyril and Ruby were Black. Although it is probably true that Cyril's parents or grandparents were of mixed heritage. But technically is was 100% Black.

Cyril Dandridge was a light skinned black man and his mother Florence Locke-Dandridge looked completely Caucasian; according to Dorothy Hughes McConnell, who was a friend of the family, you couldn't tell she had a single drop of black blood. Florence was also known throughout the Cleveland community for her striking beauty. Dorothy obviously has a substantial amount of white DNA she inherited from Cyril's side of the family. The average African American woman does not have cafe au Lait skin and European facial features, both traits which gave Dorothy crossover appeal with white audiences.
I don't mean this in a mean way - but Dorothy was as black as many black Americans. She was not special in this way. There are many black Americans that had a white grandparent or great-grandparent. Based on that theory...50% of black Americans are mixed. If that is what it takes to be mixed - then I am mixed and my skin tone is closer to Kelly Rowland. Most blacks I know fall into this category and yet don't get caught up in labels. They just say they are black and keep it moving.

He is also much more ethnic looking then Dorothy Dandridge. Condoleeza Rice was found to be only 51% African when she was subjected to a DNA test. The average African American with two black parents does not resemble Dorothy Dandridge, Jayne Kennedy or Vanessa Williams unless there is a lot of mixture down the line. I first learned about her when Essence Magazine did an article on her life and career. I was awe struck by her beauty and couldn't believe I had never heard of her before. When I saw Carmen Jones for the first time I went WOW! She is like a dream come to life. I am sure had she lived long enough she would have received endless celebrations for her ground breaking career. Maybe a lifetime achievement Oscar. Or a Kennedy Center tribute.

In the Decks Ran Red she was cast a Maori from New Zealand and in Malaga she played a racially ambiguous woman of undetermined European origins. In Malaga she threw the producers in a quandary because they couldn't decide what Nationality to make her character. Dorothy was also scheduled to play an Indian woman in the never released Marco Polo and she signed a film contract to play a Mexican right before her death. In the Earl Mills biography it was mentioned that Dorothy had to re-shoot her Bright Road scenes in brown makeup because she photographed too light and the MGM producers thought she looked like a Spaniard.

The 1960s were a tough time for most Hollywood entertainers. Mickey Rooney rented himself out to appear at cocktail parties in FL & had no furniture in his house. Judy Garland spiraled downward & was sleeping on people's floors. Debbie Reynolds went on the musical theater circuit & developed a drinking problem. It was a miracle any of them survived.

Many who are deeper on the spectrum tend to have mentality of a child if they didnt receive the therapy needed at a young age. Seems like she was non verbal, but maybe could have spoken with speech therapy at a very young age. With todays technologies and awareness in autism, she would had at least been able to communicate through a tablet or other means and her parents would had known that their daugther knew they were her parents and knew a lot more than they thought, just couldnt verbally get it out. She would had lived a relatively productive life in todays world. Heartbreaking.

She was deeply saddened by her daughter's permanent mental illness due to lack of Oxygen to her brain during birth, something Dorothy always blamed herself for because she delayed going to the Hospital waiting for her husband to come home. Then she couldn't pay for her daughter's care anymore and had to surrender (ward of the court) to a state institution. The Guilt was unbearable.

Yes, it would have been great. I'm a person who likes to hear it from the person, not stories of what other people said about her. Nobody has any way of knowing what she was thinking at any given time or what her emotions were. People making these videos didn't live with her. They would have no way of knowing about her taking pills and boozed in the privacy of her home. Her videos are always the same stories repeated over and over again. I don't pay any attention to the Gerri Branton interviews. She died 18 years ago. I think she was full of sh-t. In all of her interviews she never had one complimentary thing to say about Miss Dandridge. The Peter Lawford story that she tells sounds like bullsh't to me. I don't believe he would have felt the need to explain that he didn't have a big trust fund. It is true that Preminger didn't think she was right for the role of Carmen at first and she did return to his office with the right wardrobe for the role of Carmen but Both he and Miss Dandridge lived in the LA area. How many times would he have seen her walking down 5TH Ave. in New York. That part of the Donald Bogle story doesn't make any sense. Earl Mills was supposed to pick her up and take her to the doctor about her foot, not the airport. There were no notes found in her apartment. Earl Mills already had the note mentioned. What a VERY foolish question!!! Ella, was a singer, heaveyset, and not really looked upon as a sex symbol of sorts. It was easier for her to be accepted by White America at that time. Dorothy Dandridge was the most amazing actress but as a divorced parent she that suffered with the guilt of having surrendered her parental rights of her daughter due to financial issues surrounding her not having the income to pay for the stay and maintenance of her TMH (Trainable Mentally Handicap) daughter in facility that takes cares for her child. Dorothy NEVER got over it. Everyday, people are investigated by government agencies regarding whether or not a person is a suitable parent for children that are not disable, but it is rare when a parent loses their disabled child for not being able to afford the facility the houses and care of TMH children.
I have a TMH child that isn't in a facility that houses and care for children with extreme disabilities. I believe that such place are very cold and impersonal when it comes to nurturing a TMH child and or children with extreme disabilities. We as people need to support those parents to choose to personally take care of their own TMH and or extremely disabled children. Be there is no place like HOME! God willing we can help that person by simply saying keep your head up you are doing a good job!

I hate to break it to anyone who thinks that Dorothy Dandridge was of mixed race. Both of her parents, Cyril and Ruby were Black. Although it is probably true that Cyril's parents or grandparents were of mixed heritage. But technically is was 100% Black.
Yes both of Dorothy's parents are black but Dorothy is no where near 100% black. Cyril Dandridge was a light skinned black man and his mother Florence Locke-Dandridge looked completely Caucasian; according to Dorothy Hughes McConnell, who was a friend of the family, you couldn't tell she had a single drop of black blood. Florence was also known throughout the Cleveland community for her striking beauty. Dorothy obviously has a substantial amount of white DNA she inherited from Cyril's side of the family. The average African American woman does not have cafe au Lait skin and European facial features, both traits which gave Dorothy crossover appeal with white audiences.

Don't be so sure about Dorothy's exact genetic makeup. Henry Louis Gates Jr is 50% white according to his ancestry makeup. Both of his parents are also black. He is also much more ethnic looking then Dorothy Dandridge. Condoleeza Rice was found to be only 51% African when she was subjected to a DNA test. The average African American with two black parents does not resemble Dorothy Dandridge, Jayne Kennedy or Vanessa Williams unless there is a lot of mixture down the line. I first learned about her when Essence Magazine did an article on her life and career. I was awe struck by her beauty and couldn't believe I had never heard of her before. When I saw Carmen Jones for the first time I went WOW! She is like a dream come to life. I am sure had she lived long enough she would have received endless celebrations for her ground breaking career. Maybe a lifetime achievement Oscar. Or a Kennedy Center tribute.

she was too vulnerable for fame. she suffered from stage fright which should have been a huge red flag. most her decissions were wrong or made at wrong timings, that's enough to turn a soft heart cold..fame is not for everyone. She wanted to settle down to save herself but the men that were around her didn't grant her that escape. she was trapped, and what usually happens when that happens is you know you can not do it alone, there wasn't enough strength or fight in her. Nothing but her self could have saved her. but then again she was a troubled soul, how can you save a troubled soul when you are the one fighting your own demons? tragic.

In the Decks Ran Red she was cast a Maori from New Zealand and in Malaga she played a racially ambiguous woman of undetermined European origins. In Malaga she threw the producers in a quandary because they couldn't decide what Nationality to make her character. Dorothy was also scheduled to play an Indian woman in the never released Marco Polo and she signed a film contract to play a Mexican right before her death. In the Earl Mills biography it was mentioned that Dorothy had to re-shoot her Bright Road scenes in brown makeup because she photographed too light and the MGM producers thought she looked like a Spaniard.

Many who are deeper on the spectrum tend to have mentality of a child if they didnt receive the therapy needed at a young age. Seems like she was non verbal, but maybe could have spoken with speech therapy at a very young age. With todays technologies and awareness in autism, she would had at least been able to communicate through a tablet or other means and her parents would had known that their daugther knew they were her parents and knew a lot more than they thought, just couldnt verbally get it out. She would had lived a relatively productive life in todays world. Heartbreaking.
Dorothy was a rare Beautiful Brown Sister that every man desired. She did her part in blazing the trail's for other Brown Actor's.She could play any character.

*She was neither manic depressant or experienced self-hate. Halle Berry is going on and on about someone she didn't even know.* Dorothy fell into a deep depression due to the failed relationships and second Divorce from the Abusive guy who used her for money. Like her best friend said she would have been happy just being a House-Wife & Mother. She was deeply saddened by her daughter's permanent mental illness due to lack of Oxygen to her brain during birth, something Dorothy always blamed herself for because she delayed going to the Hospital waiting for her husband to come home. Then she couldn't pay for her daughter's care anymore and had to surrender (ward of the court) to a state institution. The Guilt was unbearable.
So she did everything but called on God. Typically what a lot of women going through today. Took that sucker for child support. Being a housewife with no support from that no good husband;👏🏻prayers all she needed
Just watched a Doris Day doc . She also had abusive husbands and some that stole her money - what makes these lovely talented ladies go for such horrible men?

Yes it was “unbearable “ and she was trying to get her back that same year before she passed away.. it was inevitable.. she reminds me of my grandmother a lot.. who was just as beautiful as she and suffered with anti depression and gained weight from the process and lost her beauty and ended up with a terrible husband back to back

I had the privilege of having a phone conversation with her best friend, Geri's husband before he passed. I called him after reading her biography, a must read. He was very sweet and spoke of how close dorothy and geri were. Please read the book, its phenomenal. This piece didn't mention the sexual abuse she suffered at the hands of her mother's lesbian lover. She was so beautiful.
