Dinah Washington needs a film done on her life. Loretta Devine would be perfect to play her. What a incredible life she lived. She is the definitely the original queen of rhythm and blues.
Dinah is the QUEEN. She can never be replaced. I listen to her almost everyday. That voice is so beautiful. Nobody can sing like her today. She was one beautiful and talented woman.
My Dad, who I thought was hopelessly "square," loved Dinah and when he had a few drinks would put on her records along with Sarah Vaughn. This in the late 50's. Years later I decided this "old" music wasn't so bad. ;-) Thanks for exposing me to this Dad!
You can really hear the influence Dinah had on Esther Phillips. Although their vocal timbres were very different , it's still very obvious how much Esther adored Dinah! Just beautiful :)
Esther told a great story about how when she met Dinah, Dinah was appalled at how Esther's bandleader, Johnny Otis, was dressing her --"You got her all dolled-up like a f!#cking CHILD!" - and she took Esther out and bought her some clothes, taught her how to dress and carry herself. Dinah could have her "evil" ways, but she was also a kind and nurturing soul.
Angel Michelle you look so much like her. I have to say to you since i cant say to her I love her, she has been one of my musical and inspirations in general. What a strong, beautiful and talented Woman she will forever be... RIP Dinah Washington your spirit lives on and on...
What a nice surprise to see that people do want a movie on Dinah. You can help by showing Hollywood there is a fan base for her still. Please follow any of her social media profiles. Instagram: @thedinahwashington, Facebook: Dinah Washington Project and Twitter: @dinahwasbiopic. The producers and Dinah's family thank you!
When I was 14 my little boyfriend ..all thru Junior high and high school ,,ANYHOW ...HIS MOM WOULD ALWAYS PUT DINAH WASHINGTON AND WE WOULD LAUGH AT SOME OF THE QUOTES IN SONG,,,GO TO CONEY EAT BOLOGNA. BUT MANY YEARS LATER I READ A FABOULOUS BOOK ABOUT HER AND A C.D. AND I WAS GRATEFUL THAT I HAD BEEN EXPOSED TO HER MUSIC .AND I TRUELY FEEL THEY SHOULD MAKE A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE.
Her voice moves me I cd not stop at one song I want to know everything about her I became obsessed no wonder Amy Winehouse prayed to her omg of course !
took a long time, but when the BBC got it"s act together, when doing documentaries want"s some beating. has a way of making things interesting.also did a Solomon Burke program!who did the programme about Black music?soul deep??
I see a lot of entertainers that have tried to mimic her, her style. Lil Kim the rapper comes to mind. Always dressed like a diva and princess with that edge!
One of the reasons she caught a lot of hell was because she was DARK skin. So sick and damn tired of people hating on dark skin women, Being born dark skin and female can be a b#### At the end of the day she was still successful, talented, beautiful and did her thing.
Simply don.t listen to them. A head held high and someone uber confident, no 1 can touch that. Skin tone doesn.t equal beauty...people are idiots to think so. One of my best friends in the entire world who died 2 years ago was a darker shade and in the 90s used to wear her hair cut super low..she would rock her hoop earrings and beat her face to glam status, and have on the cutest clothes that she was a bad b*tch and she knew it...she had super confidence and a great spirit, magnetic personality that every1 and any1 she met absolutely loved her. So screw the dummies who comment on someone's skin tone, they are mentally challenged and beneath you! :)
What incredible stupidity and ignorance in this country. DARK skin? Bring it! She was a gorgeous woman and brought truth to the idea "the darker the cherry, the sweeter the juice."
@@lisablack8892 ... I will have to look into that. But you are right about how she ruined the Wiz. She wasnt even supposed to be in it. Berry Gordy, her boss and mentor, thought that she was too old... so thus, he at first turned her down for the role of a 14 year old Dorthy. But then, Diana went behind Gordy's back and spoke directly to the other producers of the movie. They over ruled Gordy, her mentor, and put Ross in the movie.

I believe Loretta Devine is too old to play the Queen. But if the movie was done maybe twenty years ago it would have been great.
@@lisablack8892 I didn't even think about Lorretta's age. You're correct. Good point.
Wow. Her voice, clairity, tone, and inflection - amazing.

And fat too. But she gave them all her ass to kiss.
ITS TIME FOLK NEW BLACK WHITE BLUE YELLOW BLOOD IS THE SAME COLOUR WE ALL THE SAME
MR T
She wasn’t fat
Diana Ross do not sound like her.
You are so right Diane Ross was all studio voice.
She sounds a little like Diana Ross.
Diana Ross do not sound like her that's a insult
No Diana Ross do not sound like her that is a insult. Dianah voice was powerful not whimpy.
Nothing like Diana "give me the money" Ross
Diane Ross could only sing in the studio. She made a mess of the movie the Wiz.
