Instead of playing with y bones, you should start cutting into tail up to Y bone then grab fillet tail ends one peace in each hand and pull apart ( zipper ) into Two pieces, then take the piece that has Y bone attached to it and ( zipper ) remove the Y bone and you are left with boneless fillets of wallet, a lot cleaner and not as messy.
I've watched a lot of of vids on this subjuct, but NONE....NONE of them has even come close to yours. Excellent, and you have a new subscriber! Looking forward to more. Thanks again.
Nice fillet brother thanks for sharing this video to me come check out the trolling for wahoo video on our channel here on UA-cam, I just subbed to your channel hope to see more videos , please come check out the channel bud 👊❤
Up here in Saskatchewan Canada we don't call them pickerel the names they have here are northern pike... Jack... And the ones who do not like their table fare call them slough sharks and we call walleye pickerel... We also know that the jack is it type of pickerel
Very nice. This is the first video I've seen that mentioned the pin bones along the lower tail end. We don't have pickerel where I'm from but I've been filleting northern and they all have those pin bones at the lower tail section. No other instructions or videos ever mentions it. Great job on mentioning that in your video.
Bruh I caught some of these at lake blackshear Georgia and I was like ain't fucking no way I just caught a pike but two even. We never seen them in there before and been fishing it 20 years, I watched this video and it helped out alot thanks
Pickerel are great to eat my ABSOLUTELY favorite...you can fillet the off the bone and leave the skin on, flip them skin side down and "gash" them. Then the bones will melt away when u fry them and u get the whole fillet. Then we usually cut into two strips slicing with the length of fillet..when I say "gash" I mean take ur fillet knife and slice the meat to the skin eat cut very close from the previous cut u made, U will be able to feel the fillet knife slice through the bone very close to the skin... once u have tried this there is no way u will spend that much time doing all the slicing and feeling u did... but great video bud I hope yall try it's a game changer seriously(it's the same way u gash sucker)
Just got back from a walleye trip to Oneida and caught my first chain pickerel but threw it back cause everyone said they were too bony. I'll have to try this out next time. Thanks!
As others said...this is absolutely THE best video on pickerel filleting. I have a way myself but this is much better. I too fish oneida and also cayuga lake in ny so i too catch many pickerel don't often catch 25"ers but keep.any over 22".....theyvare great tasting fish...thanks for this great method..
Yes, this is a redfin pickerel. Hence the red fins... Chain pickerel have green fins and a vertical black stripe thru their eye. Some good eating though! Thanks for the video.
Thank you. God bless you and yours.
By far the best method ive seen on pickerel filleting..excellent work! I love the taste of pickerel..just so boney..thanks
Great video
Ummmm that's a pike not a pickerel
CheekieBandito Basically the same thing.
CheekieBandito no this is a pickerel, thwy are in the same family
CheekieBandito best way to differ them is a pickerl has a tear drop under the eye, pike do not
You probably think walleye and pickerel are the same fish rofl
Where's his fin on top ? That's a damn pike
That is a chain pickerel, you can tell because of the green "chain" pattern on its sides.

You should make a video of this. I’d be interested in seeing it
This was a top-notch tutorial. Thank you, sir!
The bony pieces and the head can also be used for fish stock.
This Video is great!! Iv'e been wanting to try pickerel but never knew how to clean them! Thanks for the Video!!

I’m going to have to try this. A local lake has a lot of pickerel. Even if I mess a few up learning, it will still be beneficial to thin then out.
If I had a dollar for every time he said ''feel'' :')
