Tony Martin Black Sabbath is phenomenal. Eternal Idol, Headless Cross, TYR, and Cross Purposes are masterpieces. Tony Iommi did some of his best riffs and solos in that era.
@@CorporalSteiner1945 listen brah, the Tony Martin era was historically criminally underrated. But the idea that this is somehow the best of Iommi's work is straight out of panini's. The whole problem with that era of Sabbath is that the riffs no longer drive the songs, they are instead there to serve the vocals. This is typically a characteristic of canoe rock, and not metal. Therefore Iommi's earlier works sends this shit home on a stretcher in the same way that Di'Anno era maiden does to Dicknson era Maiden
@@nonserviam4813 I see the point you're making, but to my ears it's some of his best work, especially guitar solo wise. Panini's sportsball douches have never even heard of Tony Martin era. They are the OZZY ONLY crowd, and they only listen to the radio hits.

Aside from basics like Maiden, Priest and Dio, does J-Dawg like any metal outside of just extreme metal(death, thrash, black)? I feel he is missing out on a ton of traditional heavy metal.
Dude doesn´t listen to thrash or black that much. Most people are missing out on Doom. Difficult to get into, but it simply doesn´t get better than that or heavier. Doom along with Black are the most diverse styles out there. Trad.Metal nowadays kinda sucks. Its mostly overproduced and superficial. I can´t think of a modern band that deserves serious attention
Cause of Death,Warmaster,Imperial Doom,The Ten Commandments,Human,When The Sky Turns Black,Forever Underground,Pierced Within are some of the best DM albums.
I have no issue if this turns into a monthly segment with Big D and Scott. Excellent banter and bashing . The interviews at MT this weekend clearly shows that you need orange cones/yellow caution tape around the edges of guests and camera 😄
This was some good stuff. Three guys who all dig metal and are friends just talking metal. They give each other shit, but you can tell this is all done in a friendly manner. There is no real antagonism here. It is just three guys with a common interest having a natural, fun conversation. I get the feeling that right after the camera shut off, they all went to get a beer together. Keep this kind of thing coming, J-Dawg.

Most old school metal guys stopped liking other bands' material once they started forming bands. Match up the timeliness with the last albums they like. It says it all.
@Dinkins It doesn't bother me that anyone is like this. To each their own. I've just been around enough band members and talked with them more often than not when you line up the favorite albums with when they formed their band. It all makes sense when they start not liking bands and when they formed theirs. That is why I remained a fan.
I am inclined to think Posers and non-posers alike can appreciate Kataklysm’s first two releases, all of Ripping Corpse, Cryptopsy None So Vile, all of Morpheus Descends, and Suffocation of the 90’s (even Breeding the Spawn.) I also cannot live without Carcass’s Necroticism, or Hypocrisy’s first two albums.
This is discussion is absolutely gold! 😂 Don has some great picks, though, I'm somewhat surprised that he doesn't care much for Persecution Mania. As far as keyboards in Death Metal go, I think some bands can pull it off brilliantly: BATHORY (Under the Sign of the Black Mark), Mystifier, ABSU (Barathrum: V.I.T.R.I.O.L), Sarcófago (the Worst), Samael (Ceremony of Opposites) and Hypocrisy (Penetralia), come to mind.
Both bands are great. I love old Nunslaughter albums especially "Hells Unholy Fire" And all Cianide albums, maybe my fave is "A Descent Into Hell" (Death Dealer Slaughter cover is nice bonus). Cianide especially is hard to find on CD and can be quite expensive. So please try to keep the albums on print, paying too much for music is for stupid trendies. Both bands are true metal bands. Nice oldschool "Possessed" shirt too, the most underrated Venom album. The interviewer looking like Terminator and thats nice.
