Couldn’t have explained it better, agree 100% with what you said, I own a l5g 120 inch Hisense and I LOVE it, only downside is that you do have to place it on a room with low ambient light , something similar to the ambient of a romantic restaurant in order for the image to look great, do not buy if you have a lot of ambient light, get a tv instead , but if you manage to have a semi dark room , the ultra short throw is a no brainer, image quality and the huge dimensions is pure dopamine.

After watching your Videos , I decided to get a Short throw projector , I have the Epson LS300 with the klipsch audio system works with 100 " screen , I love it and I am happy I found your UA-cam channel
To be fair, OLED's don't hold up in really bright rooms either. Seems to me laser becomes a really compelling option when you are looking to step up above the 85 inch size category. I'm running an 85 inch Sony X90H and my next TV purchase will really come down to cost parity between OLED and laser a couple years from now. The 85-in size is pretty much perfect since we sit about 10 ft away, but the L9G with the Cinema screen does look mighty tempting!
Great info! Would definitely consider one for my basement space. Though, I had to chuckle when you said the LG C1 is an entry level oled. It's their latest oled with the C1 being the highest behind the G1, with the A1 and B1 behind it. Even then I'd consider the Vizio H-1 as an entry level oled.
i have sony AF8 65" for the normal days, and when i need i take the magic: vividstorm alr electric 120" and samsung LSP9T ...now i am in a perfect state! :D

But cost for most proper set ups, if your doing a fixed 100" setup , I'd take a 85-86" tv for living rooms for quality. They definitely make sense for 120" + to go laser TV. But yes I'll take large projector screen over OLED blacks all day too.

@@MrSuperman258401 13ft from the screen .. original plan was 120 but wife.. SMH but the 100 has been perfect .. at first I had an 82” Samsung I moved it to the back deck.. traditional projector is in the theatre room prob wouldn’t work in this bright room and the 100 is an ALR screen

Hisense REALLY did a great job on their L9G and I can't wait to see it in person. Much like you, I end up watching things on my projector setup just to watch something on my projector setup as well since I love the immersiveness. I've gone down several "4K HDR Nature" UA-cam black holes as a result and you end up wondering where the time went. lol. I wonder how well the VividStorm screen would work with this projector in the well lit livingroom since it seems to do better than most in ambient light. Keep up the great work. I always look forward to your video reviews of projectors/UST/Laser TVs.
EPSON LS500 brightness seems like it should have gotten a mention here.... even though you don’t like it for the protruding top. It’s the brightest in this range...
In my living room we have a 75 inch tv in my room i have the optoma laser projector but set up for a projector is tough especially since I’m not the richest person and they create a lot of heat so if you a small room it can make quite hot in there finding the right height and screen is center and good is very hard
Laser TVs have the size battle won...and you HAVE to imagine that the gap between "the best image an OLED can produce" vs "The best image a laser TV can produce" is only going to narrow with time. I mean...the human eye can only actively see and appreciate SO MUCH quality...I think we are very much reaching the point where these upper-tier displays are fighting for very small percentage points in visible quality difference, if not less than a percentage point.
The Elite Screen Ambient Light Absorbing screen is the best, in full room light it is almost like an OLED screen and with sunlight coming in it varies but I put in a corner that hardly gets any light and then it really excels in the dark.
Another important point that was not mentioned is that once you reach the end of the laser's lifespan, that's it, there is no replacing it. If you have your TV on all day for the kids and all night for yourself the end will come quicker than you would expect like 5 years. I purchased the Epson LS10000 for 8,000.00 CDN when it came out, 4 or 5 years later (20,000 hours) on high brightness it's an expensive paperweight, just last month when I enquired about a laser replacement I was told it would cost 16,000.00 CDN. Still looking for a replacement for it but if it was using bulbs I could still be enjoying it. Hoping the manufacturers come out with a reasonable laser replacement cost in the future.
That’s 4-5 years of 24hr/day tv. I feel like I watch plenty between binging series, UA-cam and movies…but if you watch 6 hours per day you’re looking at 16-20 years!!! I feel like tech specs has made me want to upgrade my VAVA after 2 years.

the lasers could take some notes from the CRT's of years passed, shooting the lasers from the rear onto a surface comprised of phosphors could cause the phosphors to glow and allow us to look at a screen that is illuminating light itself, instead of a screen with light being shot ontop of it. That would allow for near perfect darks and great contrast, anyone who still has a crt today can back that claim up
Another con of these laser TVs IMO is the non-replaceable lightsource. With an average of 20,000 hours the lifespan of these laser projectors is only about one-fifth that of a TV. Sure that's a lot of hours but we are talking about replacing a living room TV here not a dedicated home theater setup. Plenty of people have their living room TV on from the time they get home till the time they go to bed at night whether they're seriously watching it or not. I often have my TV on just in the background while doing housework etc. On the weekend this might mean it's on all day and all night and those hours will rack up quick in this situation. For this reason I personally prefer a standard projector setup with an ambient light rejecting. Just choose a projector in the 3000 lumens range and the results should be similar to these laser TV's. I have an Epson 5030UB that I purchased about 8 years ago and it's still going strong. I really wish there was an indicator in the menu that would tell me the total number of hours it has on it because I can tell you it's a lot.
Still trying to figure out which way to go with all of the latest tv tech. Samsung has probably the best options and an 85" is around $4.5k. But they also have 120FPS and superb black levels. 60FPS gaming is too old to be useful. This is a projector for movie room setups.
Just got me an Epson LS100 Home Cinema for $1250, came with a 2021 Apple TV 4k, and only had 400hrs on the laser usage. We are very happy with the 4k lumens it produces because we can see it with all the blinds open in the living room. Just look out there for good deals and I recommend these laser projectors for big screens anywhere.
You could have 120 to 200 inch theater In your basement or other room if you have the room. Their is No OLED even close to that. I have my own Theater . I have a 65 and a projector
Yes, i think OLED TV is still preferable, i just want to see it with my own eyes to decide what to buy to. 85" and 120" display size comparison as well. I guess after that i'll decide what to buy. Samsung Neo QLED is damn impressive as well on 85" display
I was looking on ebay, used 3300 ansi projectors for around $200, not too bad. Not a lazer TV, but it's worth noting if you are on a budget and looking for a projector.
Just picked up deal on the jmgo 01 for my bedroom. At under $800 for 90" image . It great for night time on light colored wall or white screen otherwise a proper UST screen.
In Australia we can get a Hisense 100" 4k with 256 dimming zones for $3500 USD at the moment. OLED like performance and crushes a projector in pretty much every way.
The closest thing is the Hisense L9G which supports HDMI 2.1 and 120hz but it doesn't have VRR and doesn't support 4K 120fps. I don't think any DLP projectors will be capable of VRR.
Picked up the Hisense 100L5F in July as it is the only tv in my home and honestly can't go back to smaller screen now. Just hoping the technology for these UST's can get better in regards to black level as it would really help to eliminate the blacks turning to grey because of their brightness when I eventually upgrade. Also hoping the set up gets easier as honestly I almost returned the laser tv because setting up the projector itself took several hours to align to the screen and was an exercise in frustration. Would like the picture to just snap in place with some sort of variable adjustments as having a fixed focus and constantly making adjustments to the legs was irritating.
I so much looove the thoughts of a big larger than life sized laser TV... BUT, all the issues you've just perfectly outlined are the exact reasons I think I'm just gonna upgrade to an 85" Samsung Tv... The OLED TV is even cheaper too. I'd perhaps get into the projector space when I'm able to build a full dedicated Cinema room at my home. I'm too clumsy not to accidentally push the projector anytime I'm cleaning the console it's mounted on.... 😒 Already exasperated by the thoughts of it, I know I'm way too impatient to be willing to recalibrate the projector and screen setup every time it accidentally shifts 🙄
@Chris, Nobody seems to post about the Optoma Cinemax P2 anymore. We're moving into our new home next month and I plan on pairing it with an Slate .08 Screen Innovations screen. The P2 went from product of the year to zero meantions at all.
So many new products came out after the p2 that it sort of got buried. My only real issue with the p2 is focus uniformity. It's just not as sharp across the entire screen as other USTs. It's still a great projector for the money though.
@@ChrisMajestic Yes. Agree here as well. Just got one from Amazon first thing I noticed is poor focus uniformity as well as the image just was not straight at the top, all curvy. Its not a bad projector as far as image quality itself but for the money I certainly wouldn't keep it considering what else is out there.
It depends, I have been using Samsung FHD 32" TV and FHD projector with 120" screen for the past 12(TV) 9(Projector) years. I watch movies and play games on the projector with some TV Shows as well. And I used my TV for normal things like internet, TV Shows, youtubing, 3d modeling/rendering, designing etc. Both of them were close in brightness, colors, contrast and detail, etc in the favor of TV. Now while i am waiting for my 4k laser long throw projector (LG HU810p - 3000USD), because i don't wanna be limited by getting a short throw projector, which I'll be getting in Feb or March next year I replaced my TV with Samsung's 50" 4k HDR curved Smart TV and have been using for the past couple of months now. The black levels on the TV are so great and every time a black screen appears when scene (in the movies/shows/games) changes It seems like that TV is turned off. The black scenes look so realistic and not to mention the TV is very very bright. The sharpness and the colors everything is so great that I stopped using my FHD projector after watching couple of movies and not enjoying because of getting spoiled by my 4k tv so I've been adding all the content I'd like to watch on the projector for my new 4k projector and it includes the games as well. While I am looking forward to my projector but I don't think it will come close to my 4k TV, and the ones who can match it are very expensive. Since I am very lenient and I know the black levels of LG HU810p are average, i won't have any problems because I love bigger display more even If it costs me deeper blacks. And my media room is very dark so I think I will make few adjustments to get the better black levels. But yeah right now a laser projector can't replace the TV unless you can afford 10,000+ $ to Sony's new 80000$ 10,000 lumes 4k laser projector.
@Chris Majestic, Unless I missed it, though I've searched around, I do not see where you perhaps compared the Xgimi Aura to the other Laser TV's that you've been discussing, it looks like based on what Ive been able to find a pretty good deal at $2499 for up to 150", that on your list to eventually look at?

I didn't note all of my settings bou could get away with Theater Day as an easy all around profile if you don't have much ambient light. It doesn't require much tweaking. If your room is bright then you can switch to Standard Mode and turn down the saturation a bit.
I have a question for you after all the talk of black levels. How do consumer projectors and TVs compare to cinema (movie theatre) black levels? I guess if we are happy to pay for a movie ticket and not complain about cinema black it would seams a fair comparison. Thank you.
First off, thanks for a great channel and all the work you put into it!! In my opinion, you have the best channel going in this segment. Secondly, I am in the process of building a Mancave/Sports Bar at my home. I will have 100% light control, and I plan on having some dimmed lights on while we are in there enjoying the cave. The screen will likely be used mostly for sports when entertaining. I do plan on sitting in there with the family to watch movies as well, for which all the lights will be off. I will be painting with flat, dark colors. The dimensions of my room are 20' x 52'. I am planning on putting the screen on one of the 20' walls. Do you have a recommended combination of screen type/color along with a projector for my application? I am thinking the Cinegrey 5D 135" to handle the ambient dimmed lights, and looking at so many projectors that I'm overwhelmed. Thanks in advance for any advice and for a great channel!
Would a laser standard/long throw projector be a better choice if you have the space for the throw? More focused on the budget and brightness, but I'm wondering if the longer throw will effect daily use in ambient lit rooms even if the ANSI Lumens noted are higher than the UST priced equivalent Say the Optoma GTR1090HDR (4200 ANSI Lumens) vs any of the ~2k USTs (~2700 ANSI Lumens)?
Okay I get some people are size queens. But I highly absolutely highly recommend going oled the 14 inches doesn't mean a thing! If you never owned a good oled GET ONE! Especially for a living room setup. Plus he is basing his Samsung as a comparison and Samsung is qled not oled and it makes a difference....if you don't trust what I'm saying do the research.
You may as well get a traditional laser projector then if you have to go to that sort of trouble with cabling etc? The idea behind UST projectors is that they can take the place of a traditional TV i.e. sit in the front of your room with the rest of the AV stuff.
How about light rejection screen? Does these solve some problems? What about a xiaomi projector? That can lower the price significantly? Does it look much worse?
Great video. Finally got my BenQ set up and the theater room ready. It's paired with a 123 inch and I love it. Like you said thst immersion can not be beat. But I still prefer my OLED when it comes to everyday viewing, especially for sports. Maybe overtime this light change,
Another issue with many TV's is reflection. The reflective screen shows light sources behind you. A projector screen is non-reflective. Some TV's have glass and reflect quite badly.

For normal living room situations, an 86" TV for a couple of grand is the best option.
My 100” blows away my 82”

85" is far too small for 10 feet. That is 32 degrees of viewing angle versus the recommended 40 degrees.

My living room is 20x18 the 100” screen is perfect .. I have klipsch in walls on each side about 1.5 foot off the screen it’s perfect

One pro for laser tv projectors vs large led tv is that projectors are better for your eyes. Less blue light.

bigger screen is essentially all that matters, you can work around or adjust the image quality, its not that big of a deal

It was certainly bright but the throw is just way too high for most people. It also has the lowest resolution.

Actually they are fixable and 20,000 hours based on 8 hours a day is around 7 years.

U know u could of got the hisense L5 2020 for 450 more on ebay.

You could have 120 to 200 inch theater In your basement or other room if you have the room. Their is No OLED even close to that. I have my own Theater . I have a 65 and a projector

I was looking on ebay, used 3300 ansi projectors for around $200, not too bad. Not a lazer TV, but it's worth noting if you are on a budget and looking for a projector.

Just picked up deal on the jmgo 01 for my bedroom. At under $800 for 90" image . It great for night time on light colored wall or white screen otherwise a proper UST screen.

In Australia we can get a Hisense 100" 4k with 256 dimming zones for $3500 USD at the moment. OLED like performance and crushes a projector in pretty much every way.
Are there any laser projector that support hdmi 2.1, VRR, and 120hz?
The closest thing is the Hisense L9G which supports HDMI 2.1 and 120hz but it doesn't have VRR and doesn't support 4K 120fps. I don't think any DLP projectors will be capable of VRR.

Picked up the Hisense 100L5F in July as it is the only tv in my home and honestly can't go back to smaller screen now. Just hoping the technology for these UST's can get better in regards to black level as it would really help to eliminate the blacks turning to grey because of their brightness when I eventually upgrade.
Also hoping the set up gets easier as honestly I almost returned the laser tv because setting up the projector itself took several hours to align to the screen and was an exercise in frustration. Would like the picture to just snap in place with some sort of variable adjustments as having a fixed focus and constantly making adjustments to the legs was irritating.
I so much looove the thoughts of a big larger than life sized laser TV... BUT, all the issues you've just perfectly outlined are the exact reasons I think I'm just gonna upgrade to an 85" Samsung Tv... The OLED TV is even cheaper too. I'd perhaps get into the projector space when I'm able to build a full dedicated Cinema room at my home.
I'm too clumsy not to accidentally push the projector anytime I'm cleaning the console it's mounted on.... 😒 Already exasperated by the thoughts of it, I know I'm way too impatient to be willing to recalibrate the projector and screen setup every time it accidentally shifts 🙄

Nobody seems to post about the Optoma Cinemax P2 anymore. We're moving into our new home next month and I plan on pairing it with an Slate .08 Screen Innovations screen. The P2 went from product of the year to zero meantions at all.
So many new products came out after the p2 that it sort of got buried. My only real issue with the p2 is focus uniformity. It's just not as sharp across the entire screen as other USTs. It's still a great projector for the money though.

@@ChrisMajestic Yes. Agree here as well. Just got one from Amazon first thing I noticed is poor focus uniformity as well as the image just was not straight at the top, all curvy. Its not a bad projector as far as image quality itself but for the money I certainly wouldn't keep it considering what else is out there.

It depends, I have been using Samsung FHD 32" TV and FHD projector with 120" screen for the past 12(TV) 9(Projector) years. I watch movies and play games on the projector with some TV Shows as well. And I used my TV for normal things like internet, TV Shows, youtubing, 3d modeling/rendering, designing etc. Both of them were close in brightness, colors, contrast and detail, etc in the favor of TV.
Now while i am waiting for my 4k laser long throw projector (LG HU810p - 3000USD), because i don't wanna be limited by getting a short throw projector, which I'll be getting in Feb or March next year I replaced my TV with Samsung's 50" 4k HDR curved Smart TV and have been using for the past couple of months now. The black levels on the TV are so great and every time a black screen appears when scene (in the movies/shows/games) changes It seems like that TV is turned off. The black scenes look so realistic and not to mention the TV is very very bright. The sharpness and the colors everything is so great that I stopped using my FHD projector after watching couple of movies and not enjoying because of getting spoiled by my 4k tv so I've been adding all the content I'd like to watch on the projector for my new 4k projector and it includes the games as well.
While I am looking forward to my projector but I don't think it will come close to my 4k TV, and the ones who can match it are very expensive. Since I am very lenient and I know the black levels of LG HU810p are average, i won't have any problems because I love bigger display more even If it costs me deeper blacks. And my media room is very dark so I think I will make few adjustments to get the better black levels.
But yeah right now a laser projector can't replace the TV unless you can afford 10,000+ $ to Sony's new 80000$ 10,000 lumes 4k laser projector.
@Chris Majestic, Unless I missed it, though I've searched around, I do not see where you perhaps compared the Xgimi Aura to the other Laser TV's that you've been discussing, it looks like based on what Ive been able to find a pretty good deal at $2499 for up to 150", that on your list to eventually look at?

I didn't note all of my settings bou could get away with Theater Day as an easy all around profile if you don't have much ambient light. It doesn't require much tweaking. If your room is bright then you can switch to Standard Mode and turn down the saturation a bit.

How do consumer projectors and TVs compare to cinema (movie theatre) black levels?

First off, thanks for a great channel and all the work you put into it!! In my opinion, you have the best channel going in this segment. Secondly, I am in the process of building a Mancave/Sports Bar at my home. I will have 100% light control, and I plan on having some dimmed lights on while we are in there enjoying the cave. The screen will likely be used mostly for sports when entertaining. I do plan on sitting in there with the family to watch movies as well, for which all the lights will be off. I will be painting with flat, dark colors. The dimensions of my room are 20' x 52'. I am planning on putting the screen on one of the 20' walls. Do you have a recommended combination of screen type/color along with a projector for my application? I am thinking the Cinegrey 5D 135" to handle the ambient dimmed lights, and looking at so many projectors that I'm overwhelmed. Thanks in advance for any advice and for a great channel!

Okay I get some people are size queens. But I highly absolutely highly recommend going oled the 14 inches doesn't mean a thing! If you never owned a good oled GET ONE! Especially for a living room setup. Plus he is basing his Samsung as a comparison and Samsung is qled not oled and it makes a difference....if you don't trust what I'm saying do the research.

For the space issue mentioned, why not mount the laser TV on the ceiling
You may as well get a traditional laser projector then if you have to go to that sort of trouble with cabling etc? The idea behind UST projectors is that they can take the place of a traditional TV i.e. sit in the front of your room with the rest of the AV stuff.
I’ll wait till they drop to $1000 where it’s more reasonably priced.

Great video. Finally got my BenQ set up and the theater room ready. It's paired with a 123 inch and I love it. Like you said thst immersion can not be beat. But I still prefer my OLED when it comes to everyday viewing, especially for sports. Maybe overtime this light change,

Another issue with many TV's is reflection. The reflective screen shows light sources behind you. A projector screen is non-reflective. Some TV's have glass and reflect quite badly.

Which is more energy efficient, laser or 3LCD?
I have bin eyeing the optoma uhz50 or the lg hu810pw. Any thoughts? Not sure if the uhz50 is really out yet. Looking forward to reviews for it.
