I had/used both, but as you noted the subscription price tag was the deal breaker. Not a professional illustrator so paying a subscription fee cannot be justified.

Photoshop is for professionals & image editors...Procreate is for artist & designers!! PERIOD!! Its unwise to compare them!!

Affinity Photo 2 is good too. I love Procreate and it’s power but simple interface.
