    A party that takes away abortion rights but refuses to provide support for pregnant women who need help with medical care including birth expenses, housing, food, child care and schooling, employment, etc, is most definitely not pro-life.

      I believe that if a woman’s life really is at stake she should have the right to have an abortion at a hospital. Other than that I don’t believe abortions should be the go-to for child prevention. So many powerful dark twisted people use aborted fetuses blood for their own sinister motives. Why would we want to keep feeding these demons who live among us? We should be starving them. Furthermore women should get their tubes tied until they are absolutely SURE that they are READY to begin having a child. And we shouldn’t even allow people to just have children randomly. They should prove that they are ready and capable and take several courses and read books beforehand. We make people take courses to become a foster parent but we let the rest of humanity have children with no proof that they’re ready? Why? 90% of them are about to traumatize that child. I firmly believe young women should get their tubes tied before they become sexually active. The reversal procedure has been done effectively for the last two decades but in case it failed, invitro should be provided and covered by the state. Also tummy tucks should be covered by the state after child birth. So basically I don’t think abortions should be illegal but I do think they should only be done in an emergency where the mothers life is threatened. Otherwise tube-tying should be the normal contraceptive method for young women. I think we might have less people in the world if we did this but we’d have happier people.

    Hey, since THEY are making the CHOICE for us...maybe THEY should have to PAY for the child, the medical care, the delivery, the food, diapers, education, clothing...
    I mean, if we aren't allowed to make a choice over OUR bodies...then it's THEIR baby!

    I'd just REALLY like to live in a country where what rights people have didn't change based on the biases of a group of people. Every "inalienable" right we have can be taken away by these people reinterpreting the wording of that right.

      @@christinechristie7571 The right to medical privacy. And before you say "that's not a right", the fact is the Supreme Court ruled it WAS a right, and now they're ruling the opposite. Every right you can think of is subject to this court's opinion. Is something protected speech? Is your use of a firearm allowed under the second amendment? How absolute is the right to vote? If you don't have a problem with your rights changing based upon who's stuffing the courts, then we have wildly different ideas on what a "right" is. And no, I won't find someplace else to live. I was born here, I've served my country and done my duties as a citizen, I deserve to have secure, inalienable rights.

      Why is a change necessary? Every state had their law so why is this going federal. They obviously want to increase population but there are better ways. This will bring unwanted babies in teenagers’ lives and just increase poverty.

    My dad died in 1969, leaving my mom with 3 young children. Shortly after he died, she received a notice from Sears Roebuck canceling her credit card because there was no man in the household to sign for it. Yes, we need to be vigilant and vote progressive to maintain our rights.

      You don't actually know the law do you? The Supreme Court is supposed to interpret law, not decide what is and isn't right. Overturning Roe vs. Wade would simply be the Court returning the matter of abortion to the states. If your state decides to continue the practice you'll be fine. Don't you feel it's advantageous to understand what you're screaming about before you start screaming?

    I'm from the Philippines. Let me tell you if you make abortion illegal most of those women will go for risky underground operations and take the medical process into their own hands, if they can't go to another state to get abortion. The fact it's risky...a lot of women will die.

    According to the WHO, abortion restrictions do not reduce the number of abortions carried out. It only increases the number of unsafe abortions, which are a leading cause of maternal death. So if you support the idea that a woman should not have the right to have an abortion, then you’re causing the deaths of two people instead of one. Doesn’t sound very “pro-life” to me. Accept that women will find a way to have an abortion if they want to and help protect their safer avenues to do so.

      And we know all the conservative men pushing to end abortion will happily continue to pay for their mistresses to travel somewhere to have abortions. It's not about "saving babies" it's about giving white men control over women's reproduction, either to force women to be housewives who have lots of kids so they will be afraid to leave their husbands or to get rid of pesky illegitimate pregnancies with the other women they are secretly sleeping with despite their so-called superior morals.

    If you think The Handmaid Tale could never happen... think on this.. Most people. do NOT understand that as women today... we are barely a generation away from gender based restrictions for most things we take for granted.. My mother was born in 1920... the first year women could legally vote. But even by the time she was old enough it wasn't easy to vote. When she and her sister went to vote her father told them he would disown them if they did... and it was frowned on by many of the neighbors. If you tried to open a bank account the manager often wanted the ok from your father or husband. Not only were you paid less than half of a man's salary... If you got pregnant... or sometimes even just got married your boss could and often WOULD fire you as you were seen as less productive. If a woman married a non-citizen they lost their American citizenship.... but if a man married a non-citizen he kept his. If you got a credit card or even a passport it said your husband's name. Women were often denied their own separate passport and had to travel under their husbands. These are just a few things they lived with daily that took almost 100 years of fighting to change.... and it has only taken a handful of years for it to be significantly eroded.

      It really is breathtaking how much women being men’s property was codified into culture and law. I am so grateful to the women that paved the way so that I could work full-time, have my own finances, make my own medical decisions, and own my place. Which is great since I have zero interest in marriage.

      I am a staunch believer that if one does not safeguard their rights, those rights will be taken. However I don’t think that moving abortion from a federal issue to a state issue is the same as a woman being an autonomous human being. Abortion involves another life. There really is no need to debate that aspect because there is no logical “start” to life other than conception at this point and it is indeed a life.

    What really takes the cake for me about what Alito said is that the Constitution doesn't explicitly protect abortion as a right of the people. As a Supreme Court justice, he should know that that's what the ninth amendment is for.
    The ninth amendment says, "The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people." Basically, it means "do not take the outlining of rights in the Constitution too literally, your rights don't have to be spelled out word for word."
    Just because something is not explicitly mentioned in the Constitution, that doesn't mean that it can't be protected.

      They're already planning to. Several prominent Republicans have already said they want to outlaw birth control. Louisiana is pushing a bill defining abortion as homicide. The way it's worded, it defines certain forms of birth control as homicide, too (because they can work after conception). So taking the pill makes you a literal murderer, according to them. That's how nuts they are. Completely out of touch with reality. It's horrific to think what could happen to women who simply suffer a miscarriage under such lunatic laws.

    My mom was a nurses aid in the 60’s. A women came in to the hospital because of an abortion. She was in pain and bleeding. They kept pulling out some kind of cotton from her. My mom went into great detail about what this looked like and smelled like. The women died from blood loss and probably infection. My mom decide that this job was not for her after that, it was to much. People get desperate and then things like this happen.

I know I'm going to "trigger" a snowflake here but the 10th amendment really isn't a religious issue and us men don't have to bow down to you. The 10th Amendment demands that all powers not expressly granted in the Constitution are delegated to the states, and no amount of crying and hyperventilating changes that.

      Fact: at least 17 Blue states and Washington, D.C., have enacted laws that would automatically keep abortion legal even if Roe is overturned.
      Meaning that this SCOTUS decision would have no effect on availability of abortion in those states.
      Other states can still make abortion legal or illegal at their state level.

      Facts! Unless a woman has full autonomy over her body, she lacks full citizenship & lives instead as a second-class citizen. This is not about pro-choice, it's about pro-control. If they cared about life they'd care for mothers during pregnancy & infants after they're born. They'd know research indicates that socioeconomic inequality in the United States is likely a primary contributor to its higher mother & infant mortality rate. Perhaps raising these numbers is their goal.
      As someone who works with children to overcome trauma, I unfortunately can speak to how what an 11 year old forced to carry to term & birth an infant will plausibly endure -- medical dangers & mentally traumatic. I'm beyond grateful to live in a state that I do, where our governor has already signed legislation keeping abortion legal. My fear is the state will get overwhelmed with out-of-state patients. My hope is providers move here to ensure services are available in a timely manner.
      I wish someone would propose a bill requiring vasectomies at puberty, or until the boy/man can prove their ability to support & raise a child rather than continue to blame girls & women forever as if they impregnate themselves. Not that it'd be appropriate, just to prove how ludacris people believing they're entitled to make decisions regarding a complete strangers autonomy is. As you stated, their using religion when we're entitled to freedom of religion is another violation of rights. And with pro-control people wanting date of conception to count as a pregnancy, will father's be obligated to pay child support from date of conception as well. Doubtful, but another relevant point that must be raised.
      We cannot let this go.

    I am 5 days post op hysterectomy and I’d be lying if I said part of why I had this done was so that no one can ever tell me what to do with my body. No children, 35 years old. Truly sad what women still have to endure in this century.

    I'm in my mid 30s and when I was a senior in high-school I did a project on how essential legalized abortions were for "the health, safety, and economic situation of women" weeks of research into the history of abortions went into my project. Seeing Roe about to be overturned now is absolutely disgusting and shows that all those trying to end abortions are blinding themselves to the horrific things women went through prior to Roe. Or they just want more horrific things to happen to women, at this point both are probably true 🤬

The Civil wars happening throughout the world are showing that violence only makes the conflicts harder to stop and heal from. Plus just fuels opponents to attack even harsher. If this country continues to go down the path of oppression, corruption, and denial of our constitutional and human rights then it may lead to that but that will be at a time where the democratic country we have today no longer exist. I hope it does not come to that.

    I feel pained for American people when I hear this, because, just, why?? Do the people in power there genuinely feel no shame in wanting to change the policies to something that will put them even farther behind in terms of human rights than some third world countries?       The presupposition is actually that states are more localized and are more capable of carrying out the will of their constituents whereas a federal issue is carried out on the will of a majority of the entire U.S. Issues that effect someone in CA aren’t going to effect someone in the Midwest.

    The voters bear some of the responsibility for this mess. Reversing abortion rights has been part the Republican platform since 1976, there has been plenty of warning. And, when Bush 41 nominated Thomas, refusing to withdraw him from SCOTUS consideration while a woman sat and explained his inappropriate behavior-on tv-the public needed to start thinking about voting for better presidents and getting better justices in the future. That didn't happen.

    After 2 high risk pregnancies which required surgeries after, I wanted to get my tubes tied but my husband had to sign an agreement first! I am only 60 yrs old! Of course he signed since further pregnancies could be life threatening for me. Birth control is not 100%! Next they will go after birth control since it stops a life at conception!

      I was just explaining to my bf that my ex -husband almost had to approve of me having my tubal ligation. I got my way even tho he was against it, but it wasn't easy. Things aren't near as equal as we pretend them to be.

    The horror of all this had already been stated, so I just wanted to comment on Trevor's point about credit cards.
    Many people are bringing up The Handmaid's Tale in relation to the abortion debate. I can't help but think if the show when he said that. Before any of the actual handmaid stuff occurred, one of the first things done was shutting down the bank accounts and credit cards of all women in the country. If you were married, it transferred over to your husband. If you were single, or in a relationship with another woman, you had nothing. This was done im secret so the women couldn't leave the country.
    It sounds so far-fetched to some, or a work of fiction, but we are getting closer to this every day.

    He is right when i got a divorce in 1969 i had to get my ex husbands permission to get utilities put in my name. In the early 70’s is when abortions became legal. Before women had to take their life in hand and they did. Why not the states choose whether men get a vasectomy.

      @@BigBoogookie SCOTUS overturning Roe v. Wade doesn't mean abortions will be illegal. Get a grip. It simply means that the Court will be returning the matter of abortion to the states. If your state decides to continue the practice you'll be fine. Some States will, some States won't. You can always petition to have the law changed you know.
