I talked my 12yo daughter through the repair 8,000 miles away via Skype. I'm deployed btw. We watched your video together, then she did everything step by step using your superb instructions. She never used a ratchet or a socket in her whole life. Thanks for making this video it was clear, and easy to follow.
THANK YOU! For specifying that the wire with the white stripe goes on top and the solid red goes on the bottom! After disconnecting and replacing my heating element I searched many UA-cam videos to make sure I was connecting them correctly and yours was the only video that was clear on that important detail. Thank you so much.
Just replaced my heating element. I had a couple of extra screws to remove but but your Instructions were great and easy to follow! This Kenmore is 23 years old and still kicking! Thank you!
This video is great! I went on Angi, and was quoted $350 to fix the dryer not heating! Watched your video and after getting the heating element part, was able to replace the old one and install the new one. Only took about 30 minutes! THANKS!!👍
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH. YOU SAVED ME A LOT OF MONEY 💰 I called a guy and he wants to charge me $200 so I told him that I'll call him when I get the money. I found your video and replaced it. So my dryer is working and only bought the piece for $64. You are so kind. GOD BLESS YOU
My old Kenmore is going on 22 years old and this is the first time it’s ever had a problem. Never even knew I needed to clean that bottom lint trap for the first 18 years and it wasn’t even very dirty considering it hadn’t ever been cleaned. I’m planning on another 20 years now that this is replaced! Thanks very much for such a good video and explanation, my son did it himself with no problem thanks to this video! You’re a gem!
Hey How To Bob! My wife and I are on our way to buy an Elite from a lady for $25. This video really helped us and we wanted to say thank you for taking the time to show us how to do it. We'll give you an update soon
My Elite is 22 years old and this is the first thing I’ve ever had to do to it! (And honestly if my son wasn’t always loading it too full, I think I would’ve gotten several more years!) I’ve always loved my Kenmores and it’s a tragedy what LG has done to them. Enjoy your old one, it will last you ages!
Thank you. What a straightforward, clear and concise video you have put together. I have an HE4 so there are just slight differences in the heater element housing cover but all of the other basics are the same. I saved a significant amount of money and there is something to be said about the satisfaction that comes with completing a DIY project. Your video was invaluable.
I can't thank you enough for this detailed video. The element was broken. I could not believe the gobs of lint all over that part of our dryer and some were already burnt. "Please people even if you don't have a dryer problem unscrew that cover and get in there and vacuum, we could have had a fire." Thank you so much and my husband was so proud of me for taking on this problem!
A very big thank you for this video. It was going to cost me $200 to get my dryer fixed. Your video was very detailed and easy to follow. I ordered the part from Amazon for $26 and did it all by myself! I'm so glad I did not have to depend on my husband to do this for me. Thank you!!!
Thank you very much for this video, you saved me a lot of money. The video is excellent and very clear as if you were created for this. I got my heating element from ebay for 22$ including the shipping, and replaced it myself after I thought I have to spend a 150$ at least like what happened to my previous dryer. You also saved me time calling technicians and becoming a victim to their over pricing. I think all those who didn't like your videos are frustrated technicians, otherise there is absolutely no reason for anyone to dislike your videos with the perfect quality you made it with. May God bless you richly.
This video was fantastic and helped me successfully change the heating element in my HE3 Kenmore dryer, which I didn't even know where it was or what it looked like, before watching this video. Thank you for making this so easy and saving me hundreds of dollars!
Thanks for your video. I changed the heating element myself and everything is working perfectly now. You allowed me to save a lot of money. I thought that I had to change my dryer, but no need now. :)))))
I have Parkinson. was able to take the part off but just could get my fingers to work getting it back in there. so did get another family member to do that
Thank you soooo much for making such an easy to see and follow video! I am replacing my mother in laws heating element bc my father in law is out of the country. He is skeptical but impressed that I got it out so far. Thanks again.
Thank you for the video. It really helped when I needed to replace the element. One note to anyone else trying it. Pulling the old element out took a bit of force. I wasn't able to do it with bare hands, but clapping a vice grips on and pulling with a little bit of wiggle got it moving.
Excellent Video!!! Spent an hour trying to find the right video and this was the one I was hoping to find. A most simple fix. Just need to find the right part. So excited about doing this myself! Thank you so very much, How-To Bob!!!
Thank you, Bob. So many "how to" videos are poorly done, bad video, skip over many of the critical steps that us homeowners know nothing about. Yours is awesome!. Than you for the remedial tutorial.
HTB, thank you for sharing this procedure with confidence and competence. I suspect my heater element is dead (open) but I need to troubleshoot still. Everything works, but no heat. Thank you again!! UPDATE: Just replaced my heater element per your instructions---everything works great now. Thank you for helping us save so much money (the parts were less than $36 on Amazon).
Thanks for the video! Ordered my part and saved myself a bundle of money. I’m glad I watched this before purchasing a new dryer. My 15 year old dryer is running like new.
Thanks to your video (and a few like it) we are drying again, instead of just tumbling clothes at room-temperature air. Our Kenmore differs from the one in your video, so I had to extemporize, to solve how it comes apart. Don’t know why anyone would design these things so that you have to disassemble the entire unit to get at the thermistor, but you do. An opportunity I suppose to vacuum the insides. The thermistor itself was only off by two units on my multimeter, but that was enough to prevent the heating coils from coming on. Luckily I was able to find an outlet willing to put parts in a bucket while I stood well back from the door. Thanks for saving me a couple hundred dollars on a service call (during a pandemic) or worse yet, a new dryer.
YES!!! I 'saw' the heating element and it looked fine. However, your video showed how to remove it and that is where i saw the BREAK and the BURN!! I went to buy the part at SEARS and i know i paid extra due to it being SEARS but needed it fixed before i went out of town (for my wife, not trying to sound sexist). Ran to get the part, replaced it, and we are back in business for under $95!!! THANK YOU for posting videos like this. You help the average person save money and learn these repairs are totally doable!! THANK YOU... THANK YOU.. THANK YOU!!!
+Jay Montelongo Even if you paid too much for the part think of the saving by not having a repairman out. Feels great saving money. Thanks for watching.
Huge thank you for this video! I was able to order the part off of Amazon for $25. Purchased a volt meter for another $25 and was able to replace everything (not including the time it took to clean out all the lint that had accumulated inside over the last 16 years) in less than 10 minutes.
Thank you, saved me a ton of time. The bracket holding my box containing the heating element was different than yours but it was pretty obvious what I had to do after watching your video.
Had a little different set-up...but easy to navigate. Video made a huge difference. My element was hard to remove...was in for 15 years. I used needle nose on the right side and my hand on the left...some force/wiggle to remove but it all came out great. Many thanks
Hello How To Bob!!! Just had to follow up and let you know that I fixed my own dryer! Your instructions were perfect. I got everything taken apart in minutes. My heat shield was one piece so had to remove two screws. One inside the housing and one at the base. The last hold up was the screw that held the heating element. Didn't have a small ratchet so I had to pull the entire housing out which was not a big deal. Just a lift, slight twist and out. Got the screw off after spraying with WD-40. Pulled out the heating element and it was black from mid point to the rear and cracked in the middle. The coils were a whitish gray. I didn't have my parts yet so I spent the next hour cleaning out the blower fan which was packed full of lint. I doubt if it was turning at all. Then an additional hour getting four inches of lint removed off the sides and base of the dryer. I used a bottle brush and twisted it like I was making cotton candy. Worked really well. Then I just vacuumed the rest where I could reach. The next day, went to the Appliance Store. I took the element, the housing and the thermal sensor above the blower to have them all checked. Had to replace the heating element and one Temp fuse on the housing. Total cost $85.00. Got home and got her done!!! Not bad for a woman in her 60's! Thank you, again, How To Bob! I am forever grateful!
+Paul Burke Yeah, an easy repair...just think if the repairman came out how much they would have charged. It is great saving money. Thanks for watching
Excellent video. Exact same location for Kenmore Elite HE4. No need to take off the blower cover unless you just want to clean out more lint. My wife actually wanted to get rid of the dryer when all it needed was a $20 part.
Just took mine apart and removed the heating element today. The coil is broken so no need to test it I guess. Just ordered the new part. Thanks for showing how to do this!!! Probably saved a ton of cash thanks to this video.
Thanks for the vid , only used it for the wire placement @2:10 mins as I had to remove the whole element box to change the element (different dryer) and didn't take a pic of the wiring. Thanks again
Nicely done on this video! Only thing I would add is you don't have to remove the heating coil to check if it is bad. Showing the testing of the 4 components with the continuity tester would definitely help people who are diy figuring this out.
Thank you!! It took me a whole 10 mins to take out the old one. It's definitely bad. Amazon should have one here by Wed (it's Monday night). I also ordered the thermofuse and thermostat to be safe. Gotta love the Amazon suggestion, "You may be interested in..." Cheers to you Funbro.
Howdies funbro1. 8 years to you but only seconds to me! This is the ONE I was looking for. After perusing several other vids that did not really do the trick in one deft stroke you explained it big time. The hidden screw on the left behind the power connector. Went in there, removed it, and wal-lah the unit slid out easily. Got it half way out as the parts won't get here for a couple of days. I have a 600 model which is completely different than yours on the outside...but the ridiculous front entry heating element is basically the same. The element reads good. This is a hail mary. The thermistor...fuse blew immediately after replacing awhile ago. The last one lasted a few months only. Hopefully something in the coil is getting into the housing. Replacing all of it, fuse, limits, the works. We'll see if she goes after this. If not, ouch! SUPER thanks!!! Ya done me good!!
This is wayyyyyyy easier if you can maneuver the dryer away from walls and sit on its left side! Thanks tons for you video one of the best fix IDY ever!
Thanks for video from husband and wife in our 70's, we had to spray Slide-out silicon lube to get the element out, it was frozen in place. Cleaned up with alcohol before sliding in new element.
Great instructions! Easy to follow. Had the parts off in minutes. Yep, the heating element was broken in half (again). The original heating element lasted 15 years. The second one I installed (using your instructions) lasted a year. Just used your instructions AGAIN for the third heating element. Good thing they're cheap! Hope this one lasts a bit longer (the third time is the charm?).
Thanks! Combined this with a few other videos and am waiting for the part. My element screw and Dryer much older 80 Series has some shallow bolts and this is one. Everything checks good with meter accept the element. Update on Wednesday. Thanks mate!
Thanks. This helped a lot. I had a horrible time getting the old element out and watching you use two hands gave me the gumption to grab and pull. Now my only trouble is getting the new element back in. It's stuck about an inch out!
Top Notch Job. Wish I knew if a diminishing heat, "extended drying times" although perfectly cleaned, would result. I say, Its bound to need a new one, so for the cost, and your beautifully conveyed set of skills and diction. I'll take a chance and replace. Curiosity will require me to check the resistance! LOL
Thanks, I replaced mine, well I did figured out what was wrong, and got another family member to put it on. I have Parkinson and could not get it back in it. It did save a lot of money.
Just pulled apart my Kenmore 110.60992990 from 2000, looks completely different on the outside, but once you get past the kick plate, everything in your video is *identical*. (Gave me confidence to use a mallet to get my broken heating element out - it was wedged tight, but there really wasn't anything else holding it in, like you showed...)
Thank you this is great. My dryer has power, etc. lint tray is clean but it just won't rotate. How do I know if it's the heating element? Did yours turn over and "operate" but just not heat? Thank you!
If your drum is not rotating it sounds like you may have another issue. You can test the heating element to make sure it is still good. Thanks for watching
Thank you for posting this video. My heating element went out and after watching your video I ordered one and changed it in about 10 minutes. You made it so easy! Thanks again. Keep up the good work!
Excellent video. It was a really big help. I had a damn hard time getting those wires disconnected, but I finally did it with needle nose pliers. Thanks!
When I removed the front panel, there were Two wires with a blue fob where the red fob is on your video, lying on the floor panel. Where do those wires plug in? I can't see where they go and I have disassembled the entire dryer. The heating element was bad but I don't want to plug anything in with a Yellow/red stripe and black wire laying loose. Thanks in advance if you can help.
Okay. I have a Front load that is the same. We moved 300 miles having unplugged the dryer, loaded on the truck, put it in the house we are temp. renting from the 1980's and now? No heat. It is on a single throw/2 stage breaker, NOT a double throw. Dryer runs, dryer no make a heat. Worked fine on new construction home with current 2010 code, moved to a 1980's home and squat. Any Ideas? Thanks.
Great source to find for home repairs! My HE 3 heat worked for 6 years until last month. I have continuity at the heater element. In your video you point out that the striped wire goes on the top connector. My striped wire was on the bottom connection - does that matter? Thanks!
great vid thanks. I like this design better than the LG or samsungs because those require removing the whole front panel and control panel and top to get to the heater. My only change I'd make to your steps is to check the element continuity BEFORE removing it. It easy to get the meter probes onto the terminals while the element is still mounted. Could save a lot of effort if it reads OK.
+Malabar Spyder In this case I already knew what the problem was I only showed how to check the continuity so that people could see how to check the element. I thought it would be easier to show when the element was out. Thanks for watching
Yes that is very normal but should not last for longer than it takes for the element to heat up to operating temperature. Once it heats al the way up the smell should not happen again. Thanks for the question, and thanks for watching.

Hope you figure out what is going on.
Thanks for watching.
This is wayyyyyyy easier if you can maneuver the dryer away from walls and sit on its left side! Thanks tons for you video one of the best fix IDY ever!
Unless it is harder to maneuver it from the wall. 😃 Thanks for watching.
Thanks for video from husband and wife in our 70's, we had to spray Slide-out silicon lube to get the element out, it was frozen in place. Cleaned up with alcohol before sliding in new element.
Good tip, thanks for checking.
My dryer is heating but not so good. Do you think I need this part or something else?
Try using an OEM part. It should last longer. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
You can always test the element before replacing it.
Many, many thanks for your extremely informative video!
Thanks for watching.
Thanks! Combined this with a few other videos and am waiting for the part. My element screw and Dryer much older 80 Series has some shallow bolts and this is one. Everything checks good with meter accept the element. Update on Wednesday. Thanks mate!
Thanks for watching.
Thank you for the simple, clear and easy to follow video!
Thanks for watching.
Very clear and easy to do, thanks.
Richard Edwards Thanks for watching.
Thx for the video. Clear and concise. Amazon and UA-cam 🛠😎Replaced the heat element and cleaned area in 45 mins. Thx again
Thanks for watching.
Thank you. Perfect example of my dryer.
Thanks. This helped a lot. I had a horrible time getting the old element out and watching you use two hands gave me the gumption to grab and pull. Now my only trouble is getting the new element back in. It's stuck about an inch out!
It can be kinda hard to slide out. I have found that wiggling it back and forth helps a bit. Good luck with the repair. Thanks for watching.
funbro1 We got it replaced and it's working! I just needed my husband's muscle for that last inch. Thanks again!
That's great. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for the concise video. Saved me some time.
Thanks for watching
Many thanks. Definitely a confidence builder.
Thanks for watching.
LOL
Curiosity would get to me also. It should improve dry time even if it was not bad. Thanks for watching.
Well made professional video and informative as well.
Thank You

Huge help. Thank you!
Thanks for watching.
It's not too bad of a job once you see it done and break it down. Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much for making this!!!!
Glad to help, Thanks for watching.
Very helpful! Thanks for posting it!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
Great video and instruction!
M Pipkin I appreciate that, Thanks for watching.
Good to hear, Thanks for watching.
Awesome video exactly what I needed to know that's for the info saved me some hard earned dollars
Awesome, thanks for watching.
You make it look easy.
It is not too bad of a job to do.
Thanks for watching.
funbro1
Okay so now I have tested the two red wires coming down to the heating element and found No Voltage. What is my next test? What could it be?
Excellent, just change my , thanks for the tutorial 👍🏽👍🏽
Thanks for watching.
Excellent video. It was a really big help. I had a damn hard time getting those wires disconnected, but I finally did it with needle nose pliers. Thanks!
They are hard to get off sometimes. Glad the video was a help. Thanks for watching.
Do you have a good supplier for the element besides Sears? Thanks for the video, incredibly helpful.
Red Truck Wildfire I purchased this one from the local appliance parts store.
Any Ideas? Thanks.
I have an HE4. Is it a similar process. This is a very detailed video. Thanks!!!
It will be a little different but many of the same steps can be used. Hope it helps, Thanks for watching.
Great source to find for home repairs! My HE 3 heat worked for 6 years until last month. I have continuity at the heater element. In your video you point out that the striped wire goes on the top connector. My striped wire was on the bottom connection - does that matter? Thanks!
I don't think it would make a difference because all the element is doing is running current through it and putting off heat.
Mine had striped wire on bottom too from professional repair... holding screw was gone too. Thanks great video!!!
great vid thanks.
I just replaced it cool! Thanks for the video! Is it normal for a wired smell when you start it?? Like a burning smell??
Yes that is very normal but should not last for longer than it takes for the element to heat up to operating temperature. Once it heats al the way up the smell should not happen again. Thanks for the question, and thanks for watching.
Thanks! Great instruction!
Thanks for watching.
