Fool's Errand - An Alaska Flying Film

- Adventure is not necessarily found in success, but rather in the salvage of a failure. When nature shuts the door, go home and eat some beef.
The best pilot buddy film of 2019 has been a full year in the making - not because it's good but because it was never meant to be. We hardly shot any footage, but it has somehow accidentally become an actual story of Alaskan perseverance in landing somewhere...anywhere.

This is the content that we so desperately need; no story line, no hidden agendas, no real purpose other than two dudes having fun in the most beautiful places on earth. Magnificent work Gents!
And no product placement / sponsors all over the place. Loved it!
Absolutely brilliant! The best "and then nothing happened" film I have seen for a long time! Love the narrator comments!
Ilp
Beautiful shots, funny commentary.
Good work gents.
“We are posers.”
“Yeh, whatever. We got brisket.”
👍
Sometimes the best art is what managed to fall together. This one is just as much a winner as your past films. Really enjoyed it!
Awesome Satire. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you Posers !!
The true spirit of flying. Great job and great fun watching. Keep it up!
Your short films are always awesome!
HECK YEAH!!! I’ve been waiting for another one of your videos. Beautiful as always.
Incredible content, as always. Backcountry flying has never been my priority, but when I'm watching your videos, in the moment, it always is. Cheers my friend.
Probably the best edited flying videos out there.
Ha! ha! Love the narrative! Edmund's voice is great! Thanks for another great addition to the story! These are the chapters of life you will look back on again and again. Life is not a destination! It is an adventure!
Awesome to see some more content from you! Keep it up!
Thanks guys,i is ex butcher befor becoming a paremedic in Devon England, brisket is the most underrated joint, that’s cool, more for us guys, top vid, thank you.
Some of your best work, Zane, although my favorite short is still the Texas STOL competition and flying with Scallywag. Of course, I'm a Texas boy and pilot and I can relate so closely with all that film conveys. Nice job, as usual. I very much enjoy your efforts, not only to capture adventurous aviation, but the brotherhood that goes along with it. Thanks!
These are so good. Can't believe it took me 2 months to find this!
This reminds me of my 3.5 hr flight last weekend, eventually ending up in a small town with a nearby Wells Fargo, as I needed to make a bank deposit and get a cup of coffee. The airplane came in handy, it saved me driving into town to the local Wells, on a day off, 20 minutes away. Makes sense to me.
Great voice artist and narration dialog!
Hilarious and well done. Congrats!
Oh, and the flying was fun to watch too.
Keep them coming, love your videos
Bushplanes, scenery, camaraderie, great pictures, fine words - but alas not enough cheese... Keep em coming Zane!
Never is.
Amazing video ! You got some beautiful shots here
This is inspired. Amazing
Brilliant footage Zane and a fun story. Keep it up.
justsomeguy justsomeguy plus one for this, you have the best aviation channel on UA-cam.
Great vid guys, loved the commentary. Now I've comfortable with celebrating, 'well nothing really happened that day' ;)
I wasn't going to watch I'll be honest.
I am so happy I did!!! Love it guy!!!! Oh how I wish I could be there with you.
Love it! I want in!
Great edits, showing the beauty of Alaska
“Adventure is not found in success but in the salvage of a failure”. I like that
Best none-storie ever
Good Job!! Loved it.
Thank you great exerperance
I love it, just love it. I would love to be there with you guys. I'm a pilot and like just to go flying with friends even if we don't have a plan to do nothing.
Fly safe and God bless
GREAT video good sir!! I'm an A&P Mechanic just south of Salt Lake City. I've often wondered what it'd be like to live in Alaska.. Keep up the GREAT work. You have a new subscriber. 👍👍
Enjoyed it!
Did anyone spot the pay phone in Willow? That’s the Alaska I know and still love. Miss it terribly.
Awesome film and adventure! :-)
Fantastic. More please
Great film!
thank you for bringing my dream on movie....
Love this
Awesome film quality!
Great work Zane and Matt! This turned out great!
Thanks for helping Josh!
Thanks man! That was a fun evening. Hope to work with you again.
Excellent ❤❤❤

Best You Tube video EVER!!
Music by “Impulse Coupling”
Funny! Lots of truth... Liked it!!
An "mars lander airbag and ballistic chute will probably be advisable. Great documentary!
lol I loved this video! Flying is a win, no matter what. Well, as long as there's beef ;)
I can appreciate a proper, pragmatic backcountry film
Nice job on the video. Just a couple dudes out having some good clean fun.
FINALLY A VIDEO!!!
The pilot mention Walt in Willow. I had the privilege to get some flight training from Walt in Willow. He is the best flight instructor that I ever had. He is a great individual.
He is. Anybody that wants to fly with the best: legendsalaska.com/
Super Cool!
I flew with Walt, he took me to a spot on the Yentna Awesome guy!, i laughed when you mentioned him he must be a legend around there or something
Can you imagine a feature length Big Lebowsky type film about two bush pilots
Absolutely, and I want to make that film. Just need some runway, metaphorically.
So cool
Nice !!!
Nice content) like definitely !
5 Mile gravel? That's like 26,000 foot runway! Insane! You can't jockey up that one! You could float for a whole 10,000ft runway and still have room. GEEEEEEZE!
Haha. I think Matt was being a little generous with the dimensions. It's really big though, which makes it fun for practice.
Yes, those are Alaska miles. Given that the fun stuff is 800ft or shorter, Willow at 4400 ft is at least 2 times bigger than it needs to be.
Adventure starts where plans end!
Yes, that's a nice concise way to put it. :)
Крутое видео, про крутых ребят!!!
Nice!
Funny! Great content, yes a great lesson there when in doubt don't whip it out turn around and go somewhere else!
Superb
And what an errand it is
Stephen Spence! He's the guy in the 172. Fantastic pilot.
He really is. And the green bean works well.
Nice
Fun to see the beaver on wheels and all the junk and projects lying around.
great video! where you find that gps yellow bag?
Love it! Keep up the good work. Went to Romania to get AN-2 flight training but got so much more, new friends, new outlooks and an adventure had by so few in the world. Thought about an AOPA article, but don't know if anyone would be interested. I hope to get more AN time if I can. Thank you for hosting me, Romania🇷🇴
If AOPA can't be bothered, there's always us :)
Backcountry Pilot I'd love to! Not good at articles, but I'll try, or an interview? 🤫 would like to put a plug in there for Aero West flight school, fantastic folks. I'm in Auburn Ca, Been working on an AN there for 4 years.
@@huskyflylangley6053 Sounds like an interesting story. Send me a note at knowledge [at] backcountrypilot.org.
Great video! I also own a 170. I’m looking to upgrade my tires from GY 6x8.00, would you be willing to tell me what you’re running on yours?
Goodyear 26". Learn more in the forum at backcountrypilot.org
I can certainly relate to the delusions of grandeur. Obviously the green 172 has never heard of them. His tail wheel is on the wrong end of the plane FFS!
What music is that playing in the last few minutes of the video ?
I added the link to the soundtrack in the video description.
Pretty sure Brisket solves 84% of problems.
Im thinking somewhere more around the lines of 91.7% but whose counting.
I can't wait to become a bush pilot
Same, being a bush pilot would be so rad!
I too live in our beautiful state of Alaska. Not a pilot have flown in many a flight up here and it's always an adventure. Enjoyed watching even though your mission failed, a little.
But, what happened to all the beer and cheese?
It went well with the smoked brisket. :)
Feels like I'm watching the adult version of peppa pig when I hear the Englishman narrating. My daughter is addicted to peppa pig n I heart flying.
Question to those who know:
What year(approx), make & model aircraft is that at the 03:00 minute mark?
There is something about it, it speaks to my heart! So beautiful!! Eye candy
Hi! If you're talking about N75875 it is a Cessna 170A. Cheers and happy flying!
GW DarkDemon
Thank you! 🙏
Sherbert is a 1949 Cessna 170A with Cessna 180 gear, Horton STOL, VG's, and 26" Goodyears.
akschu1 oh nice! That’s a nice list! I’ve been eyeballin a similar one in my area and that’s why I was wondering! Such a beautiful craft!! Thank you for sharing
With microsoft flight sim, we can all go there
I would not force the tail up with Elevator on the takeoff run....
There is a distinct possibility I might be copying your flights on flight sim 2020. On my own though, damn it. 😩
Just curious, what kind of oil do you use in your 170?
When I was in AK I used philips 20w-50 as it heats up faster. I have since relocated to WA and I'll be switching to aeroshell 80w.
Make something out of nothing. Now that is real art. Of course the setting... well thank the creator for that on maybe the most beautiful planet in the galaxy.
What do you guys do for a living? Thanks in advance.
We're posers.
that was legitness. daddy like
DEADSTICK BUSH FLYING SIMULATOR!
Nobility.
I lean on blended knee
Lake Bart Pass??? Is that it?
What's that movement on the ground at @10:59 ?
I think it's just a mosquito in the near field.
Lake Clark Pass is one of the most beautiful places to fly. I highly recommend it.
Have you herd about a underground black pyramid underground in that area?
When will you guys be making more hats? There always out of stock?
Did you get a hat Joel? Just saw this comment. Sold a bunch recently, now they're all sold out again.
I want to be a bush pilot so bad in Alaska. Have 220 hrs in a C172 only though.
You're the Warren Miller of aviation.
Napoleon Dynamite with wings.
I want to be a bush pilot so bad even if for only 3 months out of the year, in Alaska. 250 hr 172 pilot here. Anyone have advice please let me know thanks.
If you guys need more 170's to cruise around with this summer let me know!!!
What a fantastic afternoon...
Great to see another video, have loved them all. But, what's up with the narrator voice?
It's a British voice actor named Edmund Stone that I hired for the production narration. He has an awesome radio show here in Portland called The Score.
@@BackcountryPilot IMO he boosted the appeal of the vid by a good 10 points!
Надо и у нас в России расширять возможности такой легкой авиации, Bush самолеты очень для этого подходят как никогда!!!
