They didn’t have until the rescue. Than they acted out the call for rescue, preparing the tarp / tent and taking packing up. At least this is what we end up doing in productions. We recreate a scene after the fact.

A family members sister died in a plane crash in alaska took decades to find her body and the crash site cause it was literally so far out in the middle of nowhere could have gone forever and never found it.
