At least the PS3’s high price can be justified by it being a PS1, PS2, DVD Player, Blu-Ray Player, and an entire new console for a new generation. The PS5 Pro, a mid-generation “upgrade,” doesn’t even have a disc drive (or vertical stand) by default…
@@meevil24It did! And better still, it had actual PS2 hardware at first, which allowed it to run PS2 games perfectly without any emulation problems. They soon removed that, though, to cut down on costs.

@@felixdaniels37This. Consoles are generally sold at a loss that is made up for later via game sales and subscriptions like PSN, XBL, and NSO. A sold console doesn't make any money if nothing is played on it. I don't know for sure if the PS5 Pro is being sold at a loss like the base system was, but if they're cutting out things as simple as the disk drive and a freaking plastic stand, I somehow doubt there'd be that much of a margin even if that wasn't the case.
These are economic analysts, is likely the issue. Videogames aren't in their wheelhouse and somehow they think this is the same as predicting how many toasters a company will sell and not infinitely more complicated than that.
I'll never even consider getting a console until Xbox Live, PS+ and Switch Online are all dead and buried. You should not charge even more money to use the internet you're paying for on the game you paid for on the console you paid for. Absolute bullshit.
yeah I honestly can't belive they used the model from early cell phone providers and world of warcraft for their online services. Especially today when they make more money than ever
It's honestly the most shocking part to me. 700$ sounds reasonable compared to 700£ or 800€ Unless I have missed something big with the currency rates, it truly feels like the EU and UK consumers are getting squeezed extra hard on this one. You can legitimately buy some pre built PC for the same price that are at least of similar capabilities whilst having all of the extra advantages of being a PC. Normally one of the biggest advantage of a console vs a PC is that it's much cheaper whilst being convenient (a good PC can be cheaper but it would be a lot less convenient), so in these regions in particular, the reasons to get this instead of a PC are going to be particularly slim (notably as Sony has been releasing their exclusives on PC as well recently). I really don't see it ending well
Another thing to note: when the PS4 pro released, it assumed the price of the PS4 on release. By this time the PS4 was 100$ cheaper than on release. But the PS5 has actually increased in price! The price in euros is actually 50 more now!
The PS4 pro was great for me, since the system had enough games I was interested in by that point, it felt like a bonus for waiting. I'd never seen games in 4K HDR before. The PS5 pro just kind of stings since the base model has been raised in price whilst the games have some terrible moore's law compensation going on

@@remyllebeau77 lololol My brother in christ. It costs $20+ billion to compete head to head with Nintendo or Sony. You're not competing against them with your two friends in a basement. It's an incredible amount of effort just to put one (1) single game out there on the market, and that's with something with a low budget, not GTA6 level graphics. With utter failure and apathy being the default level of success when it does launch. In the race to be the first to build AGI and become god (consolation prize: become the company from Wal-E), it'll cost around $7 TRILLION in total to reach that goal. From that point onward, the value of human labor will nosedive toward $0. (It's neat that solid state batteries will be mainstream by the time this becomes viable. Some real life Supreme Commander type nightmares are coming down the pipe.) Don't... don't live in the world of TV and movies. 'Capitalism' is a model of ownership, it has nothing to do with 'the free market'. We've had the free market back during the feudalism and tribalism phases of development. And of course, the free market is not a place of sunshine and rainbows where you can compete against a giant machine that has laid the train tracks down and has trains moving up and down them already. Having a ton of $ is just one requirement of getting your foot in the door. Emerging markets have a lower barrier of entry, but at the end of the day existing capital has a massive advantage. History is littered with scientists who wanted to make the world a better place, took all the risk, and the few winners to emerge with something of value had it scooped up by a capitalist. (Insulin is a miserable horror story...) SEGA is dead, and Sony scooped up their space in the market. There is no need for a second SEGA console, but, by god Microsoft will continue to try and fail to make it happen. "The government" isn't the reason for that, markets are a brutal darwinian deathmatch by default.
Nintendo was watching that PS5 pro reveal knowing that they're going to make bank on their next underpowered tablet. At least they always have quality exclusives in the pipeline.
"Switch 2" probably will be $499, for a console around 15% less powerful than the Steam Deck (according to rumors and by estimates made during private demonstrations). That's a terrible value, but it will sell well only because Nintendo games. A Steam Deck 2 with a $499 price but 15% less powerful than a PS5 will be OP when it launch. There is a good possibility thar Valve will take a lot of Sony and Nintendo Market.
@@marcus3445Ultimately the value is not in the performance of the hardware versus the price, but in the experience and enjoyment of the games played on it. Which is why the Switch is massively successful despite running a phone processor from 7 years ago, and why the PS5 Pro is doomed to fail. The PS5 Pro will offer essentially no additional gameplay value or enjoyment over the current PS5, while the switch 2 is likely to have many great exclusive games
Wasn't this also the case in the ps3/360 era? The fact a performance mode has become a standard feature in most games is honestly already a pretty huge feature
As someone in another comment section said. The ps5 pro is more of a ploy to condition us to pay 700 for a console. So when ps6 is 700 or 800 bucks ppl will be okay with it.
That's fine, because Sony will stop making remakes no one asked for, games will be finished and won't be $70+, online will be free, controllers won't experience stick drift in their first year... Right? ... Right? 🤦
I was talking about this earlier, something to keep in mind when considering PC Pricing: You don't pay extra for online services. Like if you bought a PS5 at launch for 500 bucks and have been paying yearly for PS+ just so that you can play games like Helldivers, you've already spent upwards of 800 dollars or more... And the console gen is hardly ending anytime soon. You could be paying upwards of 1k+ for a console when you take into account this cost. Not to mention that like, chances are as a human being living in a society, you already need a basic PC to function. So chances are you'd already be paying several hundred for a PC anyways just for work and emails and such even if you purely play games on console. So if you're thinking about cutting out consoles and only getting a Gaming PC, surely paying a few hundred extra up front is worth it for all the extra features you get in a PC outside of gaming. You're not about to browse the web or do work on a PS5 lol. So like when you really take everything into account, a PC really isn't that much more expensive if at all. And this is all without taking into account the fact that it's pretty easy to get PC games for cheaper than console games one way or another and you have a much larger library of games throughout history that you can play on PC
DAMN that is an actual good point I just graduated from online University a few months ago and in that time also just played on my computer when I was done with homework as I was ironically too tired to turn on my console. I can't believe I'm saying this but I think it's maybe time to sell my console
2:28 I'm not sure how 13 million units sold in 5 years could be considered a success. It would be outperformed by the Wii U, one of the biggest failures in gaming, ever.
Sony: Lets drop a PS5 Pro console and price people out the ass at $700. While doing this we're not going to include a stand, (that'll cost you an additional $30) and its not going to have a disc version, (if you want an attachable disc accessory you have to pay up $80). It's not worth the $700 price tag. If I want to play Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart and Grand Turismo 7 I'll play them on my HP OMEN 45L gaming PC that shits on the PS5 Pro! A massive fail from Sony.
saw a really funny argument about how if you just get a 1400$ PC and pirate 10 or more AAA games, you've recouped the cost of buying a PS5 and all the titles that are worth playing on it. The rest of that debate was whether or not there _are_ 10 games on the PS5 worth playing. The list of titles that are on the PS5 is actually pretty big, but the takeaway is that with what must genuinely be less than 10 exceptions, all of them can be played on PC (for free, as the argument demands).
The thing with the cost of a PC is that it is only super expensive once. After you build your first PC, you only need to upgrade your GPU moving forward for a long time. And you can get a GPU that performs better than a PS5 pro for $700. And then you get all the other benefits like not paying for online play, bigger sales, more control over the hardware and most important of all, your games will work forever*. Even console exclusives are coming to PC now. I sold my PS4 because I hadn't plugged it in for over 3 years. But it really bothered me that I was going to lose access to all the games I own. Especially Bloodborne. Meanwhile I can still play roller coaster tycon 3 on my pc, a game that I bought TWENTY years ago. The appeal of consoles were always ease of use, low price and exclusive games. 2 of those aren't true anymore.
@@TheAvizanski - I think they're suggesting that there's no real advantage to playing on PlayStation if the same games are available on superior platforms, ideally PC.
Alright, cards on the table, nobody's going to need a pro to play GTA 6. Know why? Rockstar is not going to cut off a significant portion of its audience and income for Spectral Super Resolution, whatever the hell that is.
Are you arguing against a PS5 Pro only release? Sony don’t allow that anyway. And PSSR is reportedly trivial to enable even without upgrading the PlayStation SDK that a game targets.

@RobertK1993 While xbox and playstation were having a dick measuring contest on who can make the biggest powerhouse in gaming, nintendo kept in their lane and became the defacto secondary. Because of the consistency with their exclusives, a large number of people own a primary AND a switch, if they don't just main it outright. You don't hear about it because everyone's so fixated on fidelity and framerate, but there's a reason the switch was the third highest selling console of all time.
PS5 is also already underselling. It's NOT doing well already. It's only just now barely outsold the Switch on a quarterly basis. This while the Switch is twice as old and already sold 143 million units. And it's JUST barely outselling the switch. That's just not good whatsoever. I don't understand how anyone sees that as a successful console.
Most kids seem content with playing games on their phones or are playing stuff like Fortnite that still works fine on a PS4. The demographic for consoles keeps getting older and that older demographic has less disposable income than it used to.

I am guessing here but I think Xbox is dead - MS just doesn’t show any focus on the unique hardware proposition. It could become a software/OS platform on PCs and there might be PCs that are XBOX verified but i think the console wars are over,
I hope so, because every time Sony gets dominant in the console market, they become pompous pricks. This obviously happened after the PS2 generation, and it's now happening after the PS4 generation. At this point though, Xbox has become far too corporatized and stale. With the XB360, they made multiple revolutionary innovations, but now gaming has become very corporatized and passionless. Even if Xbox released a sub $300 console, it has to sustain it with consistently excellent games, which has obviously not occurred this generation for either company.
The developers have made a conscious choice to make games that tax the system. They didn't have to, consumers didn't force them into 5+ year development cycles and bleeding edge graphics - they've just convinced themselves that's the only choice, just like with the live services folly. They've gambled people will settle for a choice between 30 and 60 fps, and it's largely worked until now. This is the inevitable consequence however; when consumers are perceived to demand both, the hardware needed scales up and so does the price.
My wife picked up a free old desktop that her work was going to throw away and for $250 in used parts from ebay I was able to upgrade it enough that it can run Hogwarts Legacy at 60fps on high graphic settings at 1080p.... and it came with a disk drive! She is very happy with it. Desktops for life!
Sure thing: it was an old Dell Optiplex 7010. I replaced the CPU with a i7-3770 ($35), stuck in a 512gb patriot SSD ($35), replaced RAM with 16gb DDR3-1600MHz (2x8 so have the option upgrade to 32 in future as MB has 4 slots - $20), replaced PSU with 550W ($40). The hard part was adding a XFX Radeon RX580 GTR Edition ($50), which required ripping out the harddrive cage using a combo of drill and chisel because the GPU was too long. Also had to disable the front USB because the input on the MB was under the GPU. I would maybe recommend buying a more compact GPU if you were to retry, but I already had the RX580 in stock from an old build so wanted to use that. Then there was monitor ($20 used), keyboard, mouse, and speakers (about $50, probably less used). I got everything from either ebay or local reuse store. I am very happy because it is also smaller then my main desktop, and I wanted a desktop that I could fit in a suitcase when I go work remote from my parents cabin in the woods sometimes. Happy building!
If there was ever a console gen to move to PC gaming and just buy Nintendo stuff whenever you feel a nostalgia rush to play Mario, Zelda or Pokemon it was this one. Also why can't console manufacturers have two good gens in a row? Seems they forget every leason they learned when they were humbled or disappointed before. Xbox had proved launching two consoles with different specs this gen was not working, no idea why Sony felt like doing this was good 😂

I don't understand why there are no graphics settings in console games. If Sony knows people prefer fps over pretty graphics, why are the games they publish so unoptimized in the only graphical setting available? You don't even need to have a ton of settings. A simple performance and quality mode toggle would work since the console's hardware is a known quantity for the devs. Set it to quality to get the prettiest visuals 25% of people want and set it to performance for the 120fps that 75% want. I feel like that would be a much better solution. But obviously then they can't bait people into buying a mid gen refresh console

@@es5845 ah ok, I don't own any consoles currently so I just assumed there were no settings. So if you can already do this for better performance then the PS5 Pro has even less of a reason to exist
PS3 may have been $599 in 2006 but rent was only $175/mo and meat was $1-2/lb while a full-time job could easily make you $50,000/year. I'm not even that old and it's like a completely different world now. Disposable income has gone out the window and incomes compressed while costs have skyrocketed for hundreds of millions of people. Half of Americans don't have $300 saved for an emergency. The PS5 Pro is for a narrowing demographic of high-earning consumers.
1:08 That PS3 also had PS2 BC, and was cheaper than an actual blu-ray player, which it was, on top of playing PS3 games. Pretty sure even base PS5 is more expensive than a 4K player. Heck, they’re still selling normal DVD’s (standard definition).

I built my current PC, with all new parts about 3 years ago for about $1500. The one it replaced could play any game at ultra settings in 4K at 60 fps without breaking a sweat. Consoles are a joke.
I built my PC about 10 years ago using top-shelf parts at about $2500. 32GB ram, GTX 1080 (just dropped at the time), multiple terabytes of m.2 SSDs and an i7-6700K. It still eats games for breakfast. I don't play many newer titles but even those run quite well for me and it still multitasks like a beast. I'm even VR ready if I ever decide to get a headset. Building my PC was the best gaming investment ever. I went from midrange $700 laptops every 2 years that would sweat at even modest games, to never having to worry about system requirements again. I'm getting close to considering a rebuild since the CPU is starting to show some age, but with how bland modern AAA games are, I think I can put off an upgrade for at least a few more years unless some killer app comes out.
The reason why relatively few people have the next gen consoles is because they manufactured them way too slowly. It took almost 2 years for Series X and PS5 to appear on shelves and in that time many people just got a PC.
And a lack of exclusives, if I want to play Nintendo games I need a Switch since the only other option is piracy, while that the PS5 has barely any exclusives so it simply isn't worth buying it over a PC that can play the same games.
There's Astro Bot, Stellar Blade, and I don't know if there are more games that I couldn't mention. The lack of exclusives and games is the PS5's problem this generation.
Quick reminder that LTT built a PC that matched the original PS5 pricing that only lacked an NVME drive. I threw a 3060 and a new PSU in an old office workstation someone threw out and it runs fine, spent ~$380 and can play all my games at 60 FPS with high graphics. If you get thrifty you can beat any console and emulate them to boot if you find deals.
Not only that but it will signal that they can up the price for their next console. Hell they probably should considering how this industry glazes them up like they are the greatest thing in gaming with their sh*tty subpar movie games. Plz sony make the next console 800+$!
I blame most of this mess on Microsoft. The Series S has been a burden for developers and Game Pass already peaked and is declining. Sony is seeing their competition destroy itself and they're taking as much money as they can get. I don't think Sony expects it to sell well just condition the market to higher console prices and let regular PS5 sales pick up the slack by being a "better deal".
loot boxes are still better than 30 dollar bundles and game passes that have no real way of obtaining them through playtime. I hate saying it, but loot boxes were better. They are gambling and the only reason they aren't a thing anymore is because the industry was going to get a legal beat down for promoting gambling to kids. I won't forget the "surprise mechanics" they tried to pull in front of congress to attempt to save their rears. It didn't work, and that's why they aren't big anymore. But the children are spending loads of cash on bundles and battle passes. That's the real kicker that those poor souls will eat that $700 price tag.
@@seaweeb2258 The fact that COD and battlefield had the nerve to include them in a 60 dollar games that still had paid dlc was ridiculous even if you could earn them occasionally through gameplay there was no need for it just cause it’s worse now doesn’t make the old system better
The thing is, the GPU in the PS5 Pro is equivalent to an RX 6800 so you don't even need anywhere close to a $1500 - $2000 build to rival it. For $1500 you can make a 4070 Ti Super/RX 7900 XT build which MASSIVELY outperforms the PS5 Pro.
For having pretty much not competition they get away with these prices for this much. Even though I am not an xbox fan I still rather have that competition constantly than having only Sony doing whatever it wants with no repercussions
I dont see people talk about this much but I think one of the big reason they charge this much is because Xbox giving up on the console war. Sony pretty much monopolize high-end console now. Nintendo is never gonna challenge them, they want separate market anyway. I think if Microsoft is still in the game they would not dare to charge this much.
Honestly trouble is we were never ready for 4k. And we still aren't. Look at all the nonsense we have to pull to get decent frame rates at 4k? ai frames? ai upsample?.. !@#$ still can't run at 4k properly with all these tricks, but companies keep selling us new things that "will do it this time for sure" for the last.. 8 years? You can spend $800 for a new console or ps5, or just.. run your things at 1080p and save money and sanity.
So-called "4K" (it's really only 3.84K) is the epitome of diminishing returns for graphics. Four times the work, for a result you need a magnifying glass to actually see. My monitor is half a metre wide. It's 1080p. I can barely see the pixels if I squint as it is. Increasing the resolution would give me no benefit, and a metre-wide screen would be comically huge.
Considering the price consoles have today, the moment they stop supporting physical games, THATS when I return to solely pc gaming. This is getting out of hand
The "just get a PC" argument becomes even more solid when you take into consideration 700$ can get you a very decent PC already, sure not one capable of running modern games at 4K 60-120fps like the PS5 Pro could, but a capable PC nonetheless.
on a 1080p or 1440p monitor, the pixel density makes it more crisp than what 4k on a giant TV can, plus without any blur from upscaling. PLUS smaller monitors with higher refresh rates that can even display 120+fps are much cheaper than what a TV will cost for the same display. I have a mid level CPU from AMD and an RX 6700 XT, and I can still play most games above 140fps, 1440p, and 60-80fps at 4k.
@@thelizardwizard6772 Good to see another 6700 enjoyer in the while. And to be fair to current consoles yes this argument is true but you can also just connect a PS5 to a monitor, and likewise a PC to a TV.
guys, listen. You don't have to buy it. It's an option for those people whining about not having 60 or more fps with 4k/8k and maximum raytracing all at the same time. As this video said, the games will only look slightly better, so you're not missing out on anything. Don't act like this is the PS6 and you need to get it to play any new games. It's not and you don't. If you want more storage space, the original PS5 and PS5 slim can be upgraded with another internal NVMe SSD or an external drive. And I don't see your problem with it's lack of a disc drive. you have access to all the games for PlayStation 4 and 5 through the built in playstation games store. You can have any game on your system within minutes on a decent internet connection and maybe hours on a slow connection with larger games, but it's better than driving to a store to choose from a selection of a few dozen games they happen to have in stock.
Sony I'm getting pissed, 700 bucks I payed for this. Playstation has no frickin games! Now I know your feeling crunched, Cause Nintendo ate your lunch. Playstation has no frickin games! I am pretty sure we should finally stop with visuals and just reign it back. Fidelity was more than good enough in PS4 era games. There are the single player games.
Monopoly should be a board game, not the end result of most industries.
From the 1773 Rothschild 25 Point Plan
15. Infiltrate Freemasonry to take advantage of the Grand Orient Lodges to cloak the true nature of their work in philanthropy. Spread their atheistic-materialistic ideology amongst the "Goyim" (gentiles).
17. Use systematic deception, high-sounding phrases and popular slogans. “The opposite of what has been promised can always be done afterwards... That is of no consequence.”
19. Masquerade as political, financial and economic advisers to carry out our mandates with Diplomacy and without fear of exposing “the secret power behind national and international affairs.”
20. Ultimate world government is the goal. *It will be necessary to establish huge monopolies,* so even the largest fortunes of the Goyim will depend on us to such an extent that they will go to the bottom together with the credit of their governments on the day after the great political smash.”
Why create huge monopolies? I'm sure you have heard the saying, "The bigger they are, the harder they fall".
What happens when the country controlling the monopolies collapses?
What system will rise out of the ashes of fallen Capitalism?
13. Make the masses believe they had been the prey of criminals. Then restore order to appear as the saviors.
If that nation controlling the monopolies is seen as the criminals preying on the masses, will the masses care if that nation falls?
What nation was born three years after this was all written?
Hegelian Dialectic: Create a problem. Have the masses react to the problem. Offer the predetermined solution.
22. “Make the 'Goyim' destroy each other so there will only be the proletariat left in the world, with a few millionaires devoted to our cause, and sufficient police and soldiers to protect our interest.”
23. Call it The New Order. Appoint a Dictator.
Visa & Mastercard are the real Monopoly the rest of the industries only wish they could have that much power (like governments)
That's how capitalism works. The end game is for only one to be left standing. Competition is only temporary.

My brother in christ.
Some real life Supreme Commander type nightmares are coming down the pipe.)
Don't... don't live in the world of TV and movies.
(Insulin is a miserable horror story...)
SEGA is dead, and Sony scooped up their space in the market.
And that's what really matters in the end, isn't it? What does Sony have that isn't old enough to start 1st grade?

"Switch 2" probably will be $499, for a console around 15% less powerful than the Steam Deck (according to rumors and by estimates made during private demonstrations). That's a terrible value, but it will sell well only because Nintendo games. A Steam Deck 2 with a $499 price but 15% less powerful than a PS5 will be OP when it launch. There is a good possibility thar Valve will take a lot of Sony and Nintendo Market.
@@marcus3445Ultimately the value is not in the performance of the hardware versus the price, but in the experience and enjoyment of the games played on it.

That would be ironic
I am guessing here but I think Xbox is dead - MS just doesn’t show any focus on the unique hardware proposition. It could become a software/OS platform on PCs and there might be PCs that are XBOX verified but i think the console wars are over,
Microsoft is biding their time, every time Sony messes up, Microsoft steps in. This happens in reverse too.
@@Lawnmower737which is why I think that Xbox not having a pro model is good since Microsoft can put all they got into their next console.

Do you mind telling us the specs of that pc? Sounds like a really good deal

17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.
19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

That or a Switch 2 Kirby game.
Realistically, you could build a pc that is more powerful than a ps5 pro for 1000$.

The reason why relatively few people have the next gen consoles is because they manufactured them way too slowly. It took almost 2 years for Series X and PS5 to appear on shelves and in that time many people just got a PC.
And a lack of exclusives, if I want to play Nintendo games I need a Switch since the only other option is piracy, while that the PS5 has barely any exclusives so it simply isn't worth buying it over a PC that can play the same games.

loot boxes are still better than 30 dollar bundles and game passes that have no real way of obtaining them through playtime.
