absolutely one of the most important things i’ve seen
I cannot get over how good this looks! Definitely something I'll be using on future builds...👀
Thank you
This is ridiculous how simple but effective. Looks dead on. You have any future plans to do anything like faux marble? I have some little 3d printed busts i want to try and do
There is 3D printed marble you can get
Who need wood fill when you can do that? Awesome job man the results are great 😬
Thanks bro!
Posted a video showcasing my attempt at this. All I can say is DAMN!! This is so much cheaper/easier/better looking than wood filament and varnish. Also, if you mess up, you can wipe the part down with isopropyl alcohol and start over (which I did about 3 times). Thanks man!
Do you reckon a minimal dry brushing with the alcohol could help pick out little bits of the base colour? This such an effective technique, I was stunned at the second one!
Omg man! That is fantastic!
Thank you bro!
Can't wait to use this technique in future builds!
That my friend is INSANE. Thank you so much for sharing, definitely going to try that some time soon!
Really convincing result from such a quick process. keep the videos coming!
Looking majestic! thanks for sharing this great tut!
Great video and a fantastic result!
Brilliant technique that anyone can do. Great work!
This is such an awesome video, you absolutely knocked it out of the park with this!!! I am definitely going to be trying this on my Mando blaster grips, thank you so much for the awesome content!!
Brilliant stuff, such a great technique
Wow, that was way simpler than I expected! Absolutely inspiring!
Thank you so much!
Really cool process. Im going to attach a 60 grit sand paper on to a paint stir stick and go deep for the grain and test this effect too. Thanks again
THIS. Is so cool!! I am going to try this out ASAP on my next prop build. The wife was even blown away by this. So very cool, sir, very cool. Thanks for sharing this, and all your work with us.
Always! Enjoy the technique and have fun making!!!
Aw man. Your technique is absolutely astonishing. Gonna try it myself. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
That's incredible!
you make it look so easy.
Thanks for taking the time to create and share
My pleasure!
This looks amazing, will be trying this soon!
Looks great! Totally passes as real wood. Thanks for the walkthrough, Darryl!
Adding this to the list, great job
Saved this vid ages ago and just gave it a try on a Power5 blaster build. I used a slightly darker paint and it came out a beautiful dark cherry/mahogany. So stoked with the result, thank you for sharing sir! I’ll definitely be using this technique a lot on future builds.
What paints did you use? I'm after a darker wood finish as well for some Star Wars blaster grips, would love to know what you used and to see your results!
Now this is quality content and excellent work!
I’ve been searching and watching a million of these videos and yours is hands down the best. That looks like burl wood. Amazing!
Absolutely lovely
This looks legit!!!Love it!
a brilliant idea and looks great
That's unreal!! Awesome job, great vid. Thanks!
Brilliant! Thanks for sharing!
That is just incredible!
wow that looks so good, nice work
looks amazing.
That's amazing, can't wait to try this.
It's amzing that it that easy and looks so good!
Been doing this same method for a long time with regular stains. Only part that sucks about those is the fumes, and also they sometimes dry too fast and if you don't get the pattern just right you need to sand down and start over. An all acrylic solution is great for indoor winter months. You can mix up any base color, air brush it on, satin acrylic varnish, then do something like the inks you're using. I've also seen some people use watered down airbrush paint, but the translucent nature of stain/ink works way better. It's fun to mix different stains with different base colors to get a range of woods.
Holy hell that looks perfect! Exactly the kind of technique I needed for a project of mine!
Nicely done!
Duuuude! you made my day! Great vid man!
That's awesome! Thanks for sharing :)
Working on gift idea with Wood AND 3D printing but your solution is really interesting and possible even at my level, love this, instant like 👍.
Stunning work! This will help me with some props I have.
Thank you so much for this video. I was able to make some steam punk guns with this technique. Though I used acrylic paint instead of the markers and was able to get a similar effect like yours.
looks awesome! thanks for sharing :)
Thanks for showing this off!
Awesome! I have to try this.
Glad I found this, exactly what I needed
Got my inks in today, can't wait to try this!
Yes!!!
Amazing! Thanks man!
Your amazing man, thank you. Ingenious
thats just what i was looking for, thx sir.
Great job! I used to try something similar with Gundam markers, but it was nowhere near this good - I am definitely going to try this.
Nice job sir!!
Thank you so much! I’ve been trying to find good way to make some parts of my prints look like wood. I’ve done few gun grips with the wood infused filament, sanding, and staining (which looked great), but I have some I can’t do that with. Currently working on leviathan axe from god of war, and parts are wood and metal pieces, and have the metal looking axe part great, but I needed good way to make the wood handle look good. Going to take a while with lot bigger piece but I think this is what I’m going to try!
Incroyable!
This is exactly what I was looking for! I just printed a HR-19A heavy blaster and this effect will make it look so realistic. TAKE MY SUB!!
Glad I could help!
that look great!
awesome tyvm !
That is gorgeous, im definitely using this. you earned a sub sir
Appreciate it
Good stuff man
Damn thats sick!
Ive done this with 2 dollar regular paint tubes, black n brown, just brushed the grain on in brown, drybrushed black paint over until satisfied.
awesome trick
that's brilliant
It’s wild how much that looks so much like wood. I’m working on printing a model of a Walther PPK and I’m using real walnut PLA for the grips, and this is the technique I’m going to use to give it wood grain right after sanding it. Thanks so much.
@MacMan how did it turn out looking?
@@cobensalazar5492 Super good! People are constantly fooled into thinking its real wood.
WTH MAN?THAT IS AMAZING LOOKING.HELL OF A JOB.
My friend, I consider myself an experienced miniature painter, I know many many methods and techniques, and has been a a long time since Ive seem such a cool and creative method with such a amazing result. To be fair alcohol inks are a bit exotic for the hobby and Ive seem it used a few times. You had my like and my subscribe, sir, well deserved!
You can also do this with acrylic paints and acrylic inks as well!
Amazing work. Thanks so much for this tip. Top Guy 👍
Amazing!
Amazing
Cool tutorial my friend keep it up.
Very nice!
Really nice
Thank you! Cheers!
Well done
Dude, this is amazing! Subscription for you, good sir.
You got a new subscriber with this absolutely alchemy
Thank you
Fantastic! I can’t wait to try this. What material is your original print? It’s so smooth!
This was a resin print. I used Sirayatech Blu resin.
I bet this will work on my handgaun grips just need to apply a matte clear coat
Wow, that's a great texturing tip. Very nice of you to mention the names of the Copic Inks you use to allow us to reproduce the effect. I'd love to see if the colors are as vibrant as here after 2-3 coats of varnish (Alclad II ? Liquitex high gloss varnish ?).
(That TraumaTeam helmet on the wall made me subscribe :)
I typically use Alclad Klear Koat or Aqua Gloss.
Thank you! Better pics of it are on my Twitter and IG @off__earth
This is rad
Please make a tutorial how make the prints very smooth like yours thanks !
This was a resin print so it was pretty smooth already!
look pretty fucking good mate
Colours arrived today. Made a first test...hey...this is unbelievable, incredible, fantastic :-) It's really wood! Thank you so much for this tutorial!
I've printed a Lee Enfiled for a Steampunk costume in full size last week and can't wait to get it painted.
I added E79 Cashew to get a little bit darker wood spots
The Rust-Oleum Spray Paint is not available in Germany. Found an alternative Molotow-premium-kuenstler-spruehfarbe 091 karamel.
Copic Ink is very rare, but I've got luck :-)
Hell yeah!!! I’m glad enjoyed the video and found the information helpful.
That is just insane!! What colors would you use if you were going for a really really dark colored wood?
Walnut colors and possibly some dark reds too.
Nice
I need to find a wy of achieving the same kind of effect on white printed parts with a smooth surface (ironing enabled), so that it recreated the visual experience of piano key caps... ;)
Wow!!! Could you do a black wood video or post a good color combo?
I might revisit thos
Awesome Video man. Do you have any tips on applying similar techniques to surfaces that aren't flat? Say, you wanted to paint a print to look like a wooden sculture. Thanks!
Same technique would apply.
Awesome!!! But I did not find these pen in France ... Go look for an equivalent.
But great job !!!
Any alcohol inks will work! These are just my favorite because of the applicator.
Hi, absolutely awesome tutorial. Did you try to use some clear coat on it?
Yes I did. Montana Varnish
This is awesome! Think it would still work just as good if I printed in that base color instead of spray painting it?
I would think so.
Have you come across any other color combos for other wood looks? Or do you have any recomendations for how to pick color mixtures?
Cool beans, wait, cool greens!, no wait, cool beams!
Could use that to rebuild a Lewis gun stock :D Thanks ;) Just need to check out which type of alcohol inks we have over here in Europe...
Doesn’t have to be Copic, any will do.
1:57 my man 😎
Excellent! Do you top coat or seal this at all?
You can. Krylon Kamar will seal it, so will Alclad Aqua Gloss or any 2K clear coat. I’ll be doing the 2K when my blaster is complete.
Hi, thanks for the tutorial, it was very helpful indeed. What is the sweat resistance of these ink for example if the object that is painted with the inks is used as a grip handle? Will they smudge over time or can an extra layer of gloss paint perhaps keep it in tact?
Strongly suggest clear coating.
If you don't have gloves. May I recommend... First apply dish soap to your hands and let it dry. For the remainder inks that penetrate use Isopropyl alcohol to work it out. But yeah, just get some gloves!
Interesting tip!
theres rubber wood grain effect tools you can buy using that in conjunction with your technique would be awsum
Really?! I’ll have to see what I can dig up! Thanks.
What clear coat do you prefer to keep the wood look of the finish satin or matte krylon clear coat? Would you recommend Modge Podge for added wood texture before applying the inks?
Depends.. if I’m going for a older wood I’d go matte, something a little more used but not ancient satin.
That's sick! What did you print those on? Just curious.
I printed these on the Elegoo Saturn in Siraya Tech Blu resin.
