Okata Bento is so good. I remember going there when I was in elementary school. There was also a Chinese restaurant next door or two doors down that had the best rice cake. Makes me miss those days.
My family and I were just there last week thru the early part of this week exploring and eating lots of great food. I love watching your videos. So many great places that you take us to. I can't wait to return again Lots of great grinds in Kaimuki and Kapahulu too. Thanks so much!
I love the Kaimuki and Aiea videos. Brings back a lot of memories. I went to Aliiolani Elementary on 6th and Waialae. Okata Bento is good. Glad to see they’re still around. I live in Cali now so it’s a hard sell on the burrito department. Great video guys!
Totally agree🙌🏼 we’ve had the best burritos and tacos in cali and it’s hard to compare lol so glad we could bring you back to an old school neighborhood🤙🏻🥰
Wow ! Delicious presentation love the Bento ! Our go to is spam ...I love the hidden park ...beautiful plants...something new Plantoem amazing ! Mahalo for sharing you two awesome foodies !
Okata Bento my favorite for the Teri Hamburger plate with the sauce over everything! They make the best hands down. My son lives right by that park! Well done guys!
You can totally take care of a string of hearts! Just make sure to water it when it’s completely dry, like when the pot is really light - you’ll know! I was stoked to see you go to Plantoem! I wish I was local to there but I follow them on Instagram. Wish they shipped to mainland! Anyways… this is so surreal talking about plants to Felix and Amanda 💚
Quesito…OMG, WOW! That takes me back to my childhood. Quesito is a very popular pastry from Puerto Rico. Typically filled with a sweet cheese cream. It’s just so good and it’s great with a coffee. Enjoy!
WE live in Palolo and had no idea that Plantoem existed. Thanks for sharing it with us. Another great place to go have coffee and it looks so relaxing. Haven't been to Okata Bento in awhile, time to go back and try the char siu chicken.
I used that phrase for a while before the Filipino side of my family told me what it means. “Ai sus, Mari-ose” = “Jesus, Mary, Joseph”. I stood there dumbfounded with the typical local reaction of, “Not! Fo’ real?” 😂
Mahalo for this Kaimuki eats video. With so many eateries there, you could do a bunch of Kaimuki eats videos. Unfortunately though, it makes me more homesick. Growing up, I was team luncheon meat. I wasn't a big fan of spam until the spam musubi was created. BTW, I wasn't paying attention but congrats on the 25.5K subs.
If you liked that cheese thing. You gotta try Portos Bake at home. It's all cuban style pastries. I'm Cuban and when I go I can easily spend almost 200 from there treats to cuban breads and crakers. It's definitely a must!!!
Thanks for the interesting vlog of restaurants in Kaimuki which was my stomping ground! So many changes have taken place over the years! Need to take a trip back home just to try out familiar local grindz! :-)
Thanks, definitely checking some of these on my trip in September. Noticed Cowcow Tea next to Okata Bento. All pink interior. Ever tried it? Looks fun. Yea, would love to hear story about Kaimuki.
Loved the Bento, my kind of food. I love both Spam and Luncheon Meat, if forced to choose Luncheon Meat is the best. I would have munched everything in that Bento. Mahalo and Aloha.
I don’t like luncheon meat or spam unless it’s burnt to a crisp lol. I grew up around Kaimuki too but more towards Market city shopping center with Gina’s. That Okata bento looked delicious!
Wow I used to go to okata bento in early 80s before u guys were born LoL ! Bring back a lot of memories of kaimuki. Looks like the area hasn’t changed much 🤙
Been watching your videos (drool!). I’m trying to find a map of the different districts that you visit, but haven’t been successful. We’ll be staying on the West side in the Ko Olina area, but will be to the Waikiki area a few times, I’m sure. I want to plan days to hit the most places that we can in specific areas, but want to be efficient in our driving. Any suggestions?
That sauce IS the salsa! Such a bummer when they give you that little bit of sauce and call it salsa. You may want to ask for pico de gallo next time, which is chopped tomatoes, onions and cilantro. Unfortunately, this is how some Mexican restaurants make their salsas, which to me, is more of a sauce. And YES, $19 IS A LOT for a burrito combo!!!
Hello, love your videos me and my wife do pretty much what you all doing and try a few new place every week except we're in Houston and we just don't youtube it haha. over here we got lot more strong hidden spots for Mexican, vietnamese, and Texas bbq joints I believe. Anyways we are going to Hawaii for the first time next month for a wedding, so is there any Taiwanese breakfast spots in Oahu? things like Taiwanese egg pancake, savory soymilk and fried dough type of stuff.
Are there any manapua food trucks anymore? Would be cool if there are and you guys did a video from the "Manapua Man"😂 I can just taste the chow fun from back in the day...Lol😆
If you guys come to SoCal, especially San Diego, you'll LOVE the Mexican food here. We have a local favorite called the California Burrito. It's a classic Carne asada Burrito with French fries in it 😋 Sending Aloha from San Diego to you both 🤙🏽
Gimmee that bento. And rock me with that burrito only I need at least 5 pickled jalapenos to go with it. That jalapeno looked like either toreado/ fried or grilled. No matter. Gimmee 5 of those too! The onliest knock is the black beans in the burrito instead of pintos. But its all cool and the gang. I'd grind it like a starving caveman! As always, y'all are the bestest. Mahalo!
Old school eats that are off the hook!
OKATA BENTO!!! YESSSSS!!!!!!! Love that place, since hanabata days. God, I miss Toys 'N Joys, Gecko Books, Kaimuki Cue, etc. So many good memories.
Toys n joys & gecko books! Those were the days🎉🥰
Thanks for doing Okata Bento! I love them!!!
String of hearts is very easy to care for Amanda. 👍🏼
Ooooh! Hope I can get it soon😬
@@AmandaFelixEats I’d propagate one for you but I live in Australia!!
Okata Bento is so good. I remember going there when I was in elementary school. There was also a Chinese restaurant next door or two doors down that had the best rice cake. Makes me miss those days.
Miss those good old days! Mahalo🤙🏻
Yeah the chinese place closed down awhile back. It was sad when they closed down.
Kaimuki has a very special place in my heart ☺️ thanks for taking us there 🤎
So glad to hear that🥰 it has a special place in my heart too❤️
Aloha Amanda & Felix, you both have such wonderful and interesting places to dine at where you live. Mahalo for showing these hidden gems.
Mahalo Paula! So glad you enjoyed seeing these cool places🥰🤙🏻
Love the videos. Got a chuckle watching this one since the cc subtitles thought Donburi was "dong booty" 😄
Okata Bento must try is Teri burger and potato salad ! So good!
I love their cheese burgers and hamburger steak plate. Burrito looks yummy.
Gotta try those next time! Mahalo momona🤙🏻🥰

Mahalo for sharing
Love ❤️ you guys video .. food
Mahalo Theresa! 🤙
i'll check it out since i'm in O'ahu for 10 days.
Hope you enjoy🤙🏻
That bento looks like perfection!
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼mahalo!
I miss Oahu food so bad!😊
I really love the bloopers at the end, 😂😂 And did Felix say “Ai sus”, it’s such a Filipino thing to say, lol, at least my grandma had always said it.
A lot of locals say that here! Lol it’s a pretty common phrase! mahalo Lisa🤙🏻
I used that phrase for a while before the Filipino side of my family told me what it means. “Ai sus, Mari-ose” = “Jesus, Mary, Joseph”. I stood there dumbfounded with the typical local reaction of, “Not! Fo’ real?” 😂

It has changed so much! We gotta do more videos in kaimuki🤙🏻🤤
My mom used to live around the corner from that park.
Nice! So close to ono grindz🤙🏻
I love Spam, but i do have a special place in my heart for Luncheon Meat. A little bit sweeter and different texture but delicious.
Totally agree🙌🏼 brings me back!
You want sweeter. You should try tocino flavored Spam.
Thanks, definitely checking some of these on my trip in September. Noticed Cowcow Tea next to Okata Bento. All pink interior. Ever tried it? Looks fun. Yea, would love to hear story about Kaimuki.
Yes! We’ve been there but haven’t filmed yet!
Kaimuki is were I grew up too and I still live in Kaimuki.

The bento was onolicious🤤
Once again succulents in Waimanalo might have string of 💕
Aloha guys 🌺 always a very big thumbs up “👍”
Big mahaloz Laurie🤙🏻🥰
I wish Hawaii can do something to preserve beloved Hawaii eateries! Still miss Likelike drive in.
I think the two of you should do a foodie video from the Ranch 99 food court before they're all forced out on July 15.
So sad they have to close!!😭
@@AmandaFelixEats .Hoping you two can get out there one last time and make a video.
Love your videos. Did you guys review Jolenes Market? Oh theres the new Mana Sandwich place in alamoana. Take care guys🤙
Thanks for the vid! When was this filmed?
Thanks Catherine! It was filmed last week sometime
@@AmandaFelixEats Great! Do you find that most workers are still wearing masks? Is it different in busier areas like Waikiki?
Aloha Friday!! Lets go get some local Grindz!! 🤙🏾
Happy aloha Friday Walt🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
Luv ❤️ da out takes, as much as the Local Grindz u Folk's feature 😁😆.
🙂😃😄😉👋🤞✌️👌🤙👍☝️👏🙏
I like get my salad tosss and Mac salad. Also think you meant five spice than all spice. Looks ono can’t wait to go back in august.
Yes, thank you! Five spice! August is right around the corner 👍
Puerto Rico has a quesito pastry. Wonder if it’s te same thing.
I don’t like luncheon meat or spam unless it’s burnt to a crisp lol. I grew up around Kaimuki too but more towards Market city shopping center with Gina’s. That Okata bento looked delicious!
Love going market city area too! So nostalgic!🤙🏻
String of Hearts isn't extreme, but also you need the right light, and good TLC. It's not your easiest plant to have.
Thanks for the info Michael! I’m still a novice🥹
Best way to learn is trial and error. Btw, which direction are your windows? That will dictate which plants you can grow, and which you should avoid.
Wow I used to go to okata bento in early 80s before u guys were born LoL ! Bring back a lot of memories of kaimuki. Looks like the area hasn’t changed much 🤙
There are so many new restaurants but a lot of the streets still look the same!
Take care of the string of hearts same way you take care of succulents. Indirect sun, light watering.
Nice! Hope I can get one soon😬🤙🏻
Burrito definitely no salsa on it. Amanda gorgeous as always.👍🙂
Mahalo Dominic🤙🏻

I went to Happy Days the other week with the gf, looked in that burrito place and no one was in there. We thought it was abandoned lol.
The hype probably died down 🤔

They make versions of that here but I'm sure it's not as good! We've been hoping to make it to SD one day!
Love luncheon meat in Bentos. A sweeter taste than Spam.
Agree! So old school🤤
I haven't eaten luncheon meat since I moved to the mainland, but do still eat spam,
The burrito shop is called Roritos.
My wife was looking at getting the string of hearts plant too 😂. Not sure if it is easy to look after tho.. sorry
+1 talk story fo Kaimuki
Kaimuki nostalgia😬
Roritos looks a lot like a Chipotle clone
Luncheon meat 1st choice. Only ßpwm for musubi.
Love it🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
Let’s go Spam!🤙
Spam for the win🙌🏼😋
Gimmee that bento. And rock me with that burrito only I need at least 5 pickled jalapenos to go with it. That jalapeno looked like either toreado/ fried or grilled. No matter. Gimmee 5 of those too! Mahalo Robert Leslie! That jalapeño was ono😋🤙🏻
Is Mexican food becoming more popular these days in Honolulu?
Yes! But still can’t compete with mainland Mexican food😭
just casually walked past nana ai katsu.
We've already featured them when they were still in ohana market place. Good tonkatsu! 👍
What does og mean?
It's stands for original gangster but when used to describe things it just means the "original"
Next time go to my friend’s place Oahu Grill (Hawaiian Food) next to door Roritos

Mahalo for the video Eric🤙🏻
What's y'all favorite Mexican spot in Honolulu?
Spam 💯
🙌🏼🙌🏼😋
Luncheon meat or Spam? Spam!
🙌
Spam only for musubi
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Maybe not a good idea to mention "cash only" with all the violent robberies on Oahu lately.
Sad, sad ,sad… replace Ranch 99 gem for another big box Home Depot? We need another Home Depot like a hole in the head.
Burrito is a joke!
