So we'll be going home from California in 3 weeks and it's been nearly 10 years since we've been home.
You 2 have given us confidence to feel at home with all your videos. My husband is already planning our 1st stop and all stops in between. He's working out to make room for all the eating he is planning to do.
You 2 make us PROUD to be from Hawaii and genuinely show the SPIRIT OF ALOHA! Mahalo Nui Loa Ia 'Oe and continue the journey.
Mahalo for such kind and encouraging words! We’re happy to represent locals on this platform! Much Mahaloz again 🤙🏻🥰
Timing for this episode is great. Flying into HNL on Sunday morning before Labor Day. First stop, Joe’s Grill Express. Hope they can accommodate the five of us from California and the wait is short. Love your content. Thanks Amanda & Felix!
@@AmandaFelixEats Darn! Joe's Grill is closed tomorrow, Sunday (Normally open 7-1, but they have special schedule for tomorrow according to yelp). I was so looking forward to the Lava Burger and Ube French Toast. Will have to find another place when we arrive Sunday. Any other suggestions? Mahalo. 🙂
The staff at Joes Grill Express are very friendly. We love the loco moco plate and pancakes. 🤙🏼
Just got back last week. We had the best time, and your videos certainly helped. Went to Alicia’s market. Side street inn, Jenny’s shrimp, Teds Bakery, rainbow drive inn, Tamura’s, Sunrise Shack, Matsumotos, Adela’s Country Eatery, Poke on Da Run, Leonard’s Bakery, Waiola Shave Ice. And then Maui 🤘🏽
My wife's family is from waipahu but we now live in Texas. I look forward to watching Amanda & Felix. They give us great ideas to try on our yearly visit to Oahu. But I get so hungry. Koa Loco Moco with corn beef my favorite so far. Mahalo
Yay! Welcome back and glad to see Amanda back to herself!! Really enjoyed this one esp bc this is so close to the airport! Who wants to pay those prices for par food. This is literally driving out from the airport to good cheap eats!! Mahalo for doing this! All the dishes looked amazing! Great job! Stay safe!!👍🏿💕😀
So glad you enjoyed this one! We genuinely were shocked at the ono grindz so close to the airport with amazing prices! 😋
this is a great idea haha airport food is awful and overpriced, promoting local businesses nearby is awesome
Happy to support local especially when the food at our airport is so expensive 😳 mahalo Amber🤙🏻
Every vlog feels like hanging out with you guys and it is the highlight of my days! Mahalo nui!!!
Wow! I will be there in couple weeks will try it out!! Thank you for showing cheap eat and delicious food in Hawaii!
Hi Amanda & Felix….glad you’re feeling better Amanda. Another great video. I’m really loving your content. 😊🇨🇦
PINAKBET!!! I’m Filipino myself and I must say it’s off the hook!! Stewed veggies with pork is the best!!
My mom lives in Salt Lake so I do go there when visiting! The dishes from Joe’s looked amazing. Thanks for sharing!
Another great video, new places to check out next time I am in Oahu. As a filipino Im glad you enjoy Pinakbet.
My husband and I enjoy your videos so much, especially the bloopers! The pork roulade looks amazing. Will definitely try!
Great Ono food. Especially the Longanisa, Egg and Fried Rice. I love Longanisa, the Sweet type is my favorite. But I'll eat the Vinegar type also. Glad Amanda is recovered. Mahalo and Aloha.
Hey Amanda and Felix! Thanks for the awesome videos. We were in Ko Olina for a vacation in mid August. With your tips from the many videos, we were able to get lots of Oahu food goals checked. (Butter mochi from Lanikai Mochi, Highway Inn for Hawaiian food, Zippys, numerous dhave ice locations, everything li hing mui!) We still have lots more on the list saved for a returning trip. Keep up the good job!
Omg that breakfast plate with fried rice and omelette looked so amazing g 😍 all the foods looked awesome, I’ve never had Filipino foods before.
Aloha peeps!!! 24 hours til I’m back home!!! The porkiness from the pork by Felix killed me haha! GREAT choices and Nimitz Hwy represent. Thanks for featuring Filipino joints again! Next time, you try Thelma’s in Waipahu, Julie’z in Kapolei, the food court inside the NEX on Bougainville and Pearl Kai shopping center! Fun video for sure!
You went to the Salt Lake shopping center and missed the best-hidden gen on Oahu! Soon's kalbi! A real hidden gem in the back of the Salt Lake shopping center! The whole menu is amazing my favorites are the Soon's special Bi bim kook soo BBQ cheeseburger and Meat Jun is at the top of the list! I have been eating there since 1982 as a kid I'm in LA now and my family knows when visiting me they have to bring me a meat jun plate with extra soons sauce. Mahalo for the video
@@AmandaFelixEats Yes! Please give it a try! I been waiting for local foodies to find it! My favorite in my opinion nothing bad on the menu. Very consistent all these years!
Filipinos make vinegar sauces in many different ways. One common vinegar sauce we make that can be easily made at home is vinegar with, crushed/chopped up garlic, diced red onions, chopped up Asian 🌶, soy sauce, and (optional) a little bit of brown sugar. Super delicious, you can dip almost anything with it.
Thank you for another video full of great eats!
Will need to try one of these places when I come to Oahu soon! The adobo breakfast plate looks delish. Thanks for sharing. Next time you make adobo at home, try eating it with chopped fresh tomatoes on the side (season it with a bit of fish sauce or salt) the acidity of the fresh tomatoes works so well with the salty/sour flavor of the porky adobo.
Aloha Amanda and Felix - I love your channel and watching you both. Felix - you’re very entertaining! We’re (my family and I) are currently in Oahu and I always go back to your previous videos for good places to eat while we’re here. Mahalo nui loa ❤️ I’m crossing my fingers that one of these days we’d run into you both. 🤞🏼
Mahalo Cristina! Happy to show you some local spots to support! Much mahalo for watching and supporting us🤙🏻
Loved today’s spots! The pork and ube French toast looked so good! Do they have coconut syrup for the French toast? How sweet that they knew you’re a pinakbet fan Amanda! Adding these spots to our must try list. Mahalo Amanda and Felix 🌺
Oh My Gosh guys!.. I work a stones throw way and I didn't even know about this place...Mahalo's for the post, can't wait to experience this gem...
Great video guys! Keep them coming 🤙🏽That adobo omelet looked amazing & ginormous 😋 lol
Guys, thanks for another nice video!! The french toast and pancakes look amazing!! Also travel to Japan I think hopefully will open up next spring, please plan on coming to Okinawa!
We hope we can go back to japan sometime in the near future! I’m running low on my Japanese beauty supplies 🥲 lol
Again guys awesome vlog already miss the Ono grinds 😟🌺 , the highlight of my trip meeting you Foodie O’Hana 🙏🤗 thank you so much 👍🤩
Thanks for another great video highlighting local places! Got to try Joe's and Christine's the next time we visit Hawaii! Thanks again for the great content!
I love this place, and it's the first place I go when I leave the airport!
Everything looks so good including the purple sweet potato chips that you showed. Yes I have tried the panda crackers and they are good.
Just to think...Hawaii is so small yet...so many places to eat...thank you for going first...Love this Channel...
That pad Thai place behind you (at the salt lake shopping center) is soooo bomb! You def need to go if you haven’t already
Aloha Amanda & Felix. First, it was nice meeting you both and mahalo for taking the time to meet up. Second, I wish that I was able to check out more of the restaurants you've showcased in your videos, I hope to come back again and am able to try some of these places out. I haven't tried Filipino food before other than halo halo, will need to put that on my bucket list. Oh yeah, Felix, I too put ketchup on my eggs!
You guys are making wanting to move there for good lol.. The amazing food is calling my name.. I love and enjoy your vlog so much,.please don't stop and love you guys..
Went to Joe’s Grill yesterday per your suggestion. It had a real home cooking vibe. Food was pretty good. I had the fried chicken adobo. Tasted more like mochiko chicken had little or no adobo taste. Price was fair but the take away for me was the garlic rice. First time tried it anywhere. It was so good with the chicken complimented it perfectly. Thanks
We shall try the garlic rice next time we visit! Mahalo for trying them out! 🤙
My neighborhood! Lots of reasonable places with good food.
Penny's on sand island access road near airport is a must try for roast beef
Congratulations on the 30K+ subscribers!
Cool, two Filipino grinds! I keep having to add to my list.
I know you said you were thinking about going to the Okinawan Festival. But I just saw that they are also having an Okinawan Feastival after the regular festival, with Okinawan and Okinawan at heart restaurants. Right up your alley. food! I hope you can showcase the food!
Take care of that tennis elbow Felix. Just a word of warning, be ready for more aches and pains by the time you get to my age. BTW, are you hitting puberty again with that cracking voice?
I'm confused myself.. going through puberty yet my body is wearing and tearing 😭
Hey Felix, I had tennis and golf elbow for years, but a great chiropractor convinced me to get sport/deep tissue massage of the elbow, and after a month, the pain went away. I hope you feel better soon. Love the video and will try Joe’s Grill and Christine’s!!
This is so good cause sometimes you have time between check in and arrival. It’s all about that first bite off the plane more than Zippy’s 😅
Love da mom and pop spots. Mahalo
Sup foodie ohana! This is definitely helpful. When my daughter and I were leaving Oahu last month we figured there would be some local spots to eat at the airport. Nope. Nothing was open except an over priced Burger King… we were sad that we didn’t get a good last meal before leaving the island.
Awww sorry to hear about that😢 hope this video helps you next time you’re out here🤙🏻
@@AmandaFelixEats well, I hope that the next time we take a trip out there, we wont need to fly back!
sweet longanisa is good for any meal, how ever mainly eat it during breakfast, the garlic vinegar longanisa love it dinner ove rhot rice with . instead of ketchup try banana sauce, the best longanisa to buy to keep in your freezer or cook urself are from North Star in Kalihi (near KPT) on School street. they also have hot filipino plate lunches- give them a try if you havent yet.
We're flying into HNL from SYD next week and we were last in Hawai'i back in 2016. I remember the Ward District had heaps of restaurants, but we never got a chance to fully explorer that area. We went there once or twice for an awesome eat. I'm not sure if the area's popular with HI locals but maybe having a look there with a vid or two highlighting some hidden eats would be mad. The area didn't seem overrun with tourists like Kalakaua Ave
You can buy the chili garlic vinegar at Asian markets, or also make at home
Wow that pork dish look delicious.. I'm leaving the house to grab some rite now..
Bra.. Stuffed Pork Belly for me and my utter half (JK) wanted to try the pork adobo fried rice from da utter side... Lol.. thanks 4 da vid.. those dishes was Killa.. 🤙
I love your videos. I can't wait to try some of these places. I pinned all the eateries you guys recommended. if you guys are ever in Chinatown there's a place called Salty Lemon formerly known as Summer Frappe. It's a local place with great banh mi, Vietnamese ice coffee, and my faves fresh sugar cane juice, and salted lemonade. Also, across the street is Pho Kim Anh. They have the best bun bo hue. Basically all their Vietnamese dishes are super delicious. You guys won't regret it. Trust me, I am Vietnamese.
I enjoy your episodes.
Re: tennis elbow--keep icing it. It helps me.
Sweet Longanisa for me and pork adobo omelette rice? Dang!! With chili vinegar too?! Felix knows! Delicious looking. We will DEFINETELY stop here coming from the airport..lol Thanks so much Amanda & Felix for the heads up!
@@AmandaFelixEats we sure wwill! Thank-you so very much for vlogs too!! We enjoy them!!😄
Can’t wait to visit Hawaii again! Have you guys gone to Doraku Sushi Waikiki? You should definitely check out their happy hour - a must try! :)
Hey foodie ohana my son James from the bald guy. Ask me why I follow you two on you tube. It is because I told him you guys are the only one that I like with two local born and raise on the Islands. The rest are not so authentic. Also, you two are fun to watch with mishaps and spills. 😆 🤣 lol!
Aww thank you for watching and supporting us❤️ we try our best to represent our home and be as ourselves as we can be😊
Joe's grill looks like a hidden gem, but you have to try Yogurstory for the prime rib loco moco and ube pancakes, broke da mouth
Also near the airport (VERY near) is the Airport Trade Center with Starbucks, Jamba, and L&L. But if you like pizza, you have to try Big Kahuna! I believe it's their only location. Garlic balls are a must try!
I’m new to subscribing to your channel. Great job! Sorry to say Christine’s diner closed as per Google maps.
Hamburger with crab sounds like much cheaper version of surf and turf - steak and lobster. Just quietly, I think it would be much tastier.
Nice! I make the steak 🥩 version of Rouladen it’s a German dish but GREAT video~~ now I know where to go after I arrive LOL 😂
Gotta hit these spots right after I touch down next time
You miss the bbq chicken plate at Soons Korean bbq around the corner by pizza 🍕 hut 🛖 lol 😂
Thank you
You need to try the Pad Thai place right behind your video at Saltlake shopping center. Get the house fried chicken. 😋
Joes’s Grill also has great Mexican Food
They used to have a chicken place there many years ago back in the 90s. They had really good Rotisserie chicken. Miss that place. I forgot the name tho.
Try some banana ketchup to switch things up.
Banana ketchup fun fact: American soldiers introduced tomato ketchup to the Philippines back in ww2 but tomatoes were hard to find. At the time banana was plentiful, hence the creation of banana ketchup.
Mix vinegar, red onions, garlic, thai chili/labuyo, and a bit of banana ketchup =bomb dip for longganisa, beef tapa, or tocino (sweet pork jerky).
Aloha from Las Vegas.. Food looks Ono.. They have a lot of food eatery there. I use to work at the Holiday Inn at the Airport …I’m home sick now
Gimmee that crab topped burger on that soft squishy potato bun pronto! And rock me Amadeus on that omelette but it would have been better with tocino. Still love it! Y'all are my source for ono local Hawaiian, Oahu, Waikiki, and Honolulu grindz. Mahalo nui loa and bombucha shakas y'all!
You would love that burger! It was so ono😋 much aloha and mahaloz Robert Leslie 🤙🏻
Yummy grindz. Gotta check them out near the airport. Also the Salt Lake shopping area has Soon's for Korean and a neighborhood Chinese Restaurant that We are going to go to now that our neighborhood Chinese restaurant is permanently closed 😔
You should check out the hidden, really hidden gem Wat Thai (Buddhist Temple) in Pearl City right next to Home Depot. Every Sunday 10am-2pm the Buddhist monks do a fundraiser with Thai street food and from what the Google reviews say it is the most authentic Thai on O’ahu. Cash only. Modest dress (no tanks or shorts or short skirts). Difficult parking (right on Farrington). Would love to see y’all check it out!
LOL... just like when us SoCalifornians get back to LAX we want In N Out!!
What I like about Amanda is that she’s all local girl taking huge bites not dainty lady like bites. She goes for it because it’s obvious she loves her food.
There's a pretty good Korean bbq place called Soon's Kalbi in Salt Lake Shopping Center. You guys should try them.
For the elbow pain, it should be differentiated between real tennis elbow and pain referral from neck.
Islander drive in at Salt Lake center is not bad for local food also
I miss Christine’s Diner!
Hey Felix than band on your arm is that for Tennis elbow?
hope you are feeling better amanda
This video was filmed before.. but I am feeling much better Mahalo for asking! ❤️🤙
Have you guys ever had a Fro from the JBPHH bowling alley? If not I can try to get you one. They’re amazing.
What do you guys eat on off days when you’re not filming places? Was wondering if you frequent places like DOWN TO EARTH-their Amazon açaí bowl is great. I’m vegetarian and will pick up certain grocery items from there but their açaí bowl is the bomb. Love your show!
Haven't had their acai bowls before, sounds good! We'll give them a try, Mahalo! 🤙
Just went to Christine’s and brah they closed down 😮. Didn’t see that coming my wife and I were regulars and didn’t know they were closing😢
I used to get killer fried rice at the Airport Deli. It's a hole in the wall place on Ualena St. I also frequented Masa's Cafeteria on Mapunapuna Street. I wonder if these places still exist.
I know you guys already did Jolene's in Chinatown but there's one near the airport as well.
You should see OT or PT for tennis elbow. As a PT help and relief is available.
Hi Amanda & Felix,
I wanted to know if you two can do a shrimp truck comparison between Giovani's vs Fumi Kahuku? I preferred Fumi's all day but a lot of people go Giovanni just because it's popular. Look forward to your comments.
Mahalos,
Ted
We actually tried this! We had garlic shrimp from 4 different places: Fumi's, Giovanni's, Famous Kahuku Garlic Shrimp, and Tita's Grill (by PCC). We unfortunately didn't get a plate from Romy's because it was a hour wait just to stay in line.
My ratings: (There was 6 of us who tried)
Rice: Kahuku Garlic shrimp, just having the sauce on the rice made all the different. Not sure if it was because of the right amount of butter to Garlic ratio, it was better than the other places.
Shrimp: Giovanni's was a little sweeter, but if you want more of a "home-style" kind of feel, I'd say Tita's.
Other: Fumi's had corn and a pineapple, nice extra bonus on the plate.
Price: I believe Giovanni's was the cheapest... I think the prices went up a bit since we did this last year. Ball park: all plates were around the $15-18 range..
Overall: Kahuku Garlic Shrimp was my choice overall. It is my go-to shrimp Truck stop and even after trying all the other trucks (minus Romy's of course), it's still my favorite. I hope this helps! 😊
Felix, wear a wrist brace too for your tennis elbow to rest your extensor tendons... BTW, the food looks great!
please do a review on the fried chicken they have at the PAD THAI restaurant there in SALT LAKE shopping center.. their fried chicken is bomb!!!!
We are continuing our Honolulu vacation, today it was poke from Tamara’s Fine Wine. When we dropped your names, they burst out in smiles and treated us like old friends. So glad we discovered your channel before we came over here, it has made such a big difference in what we have experienced! Thank you so very much!
We're so glad our videos could be of help! Even happier to know the aloha spirit was passed on through our community 🙏
