It would be great but this comment is on almost every tiny desk video. This way Vulfpeck is getting more exposure than if they actually did perform there lol.
Karla Salazar honestly would it even be a Half•Alive performance without the choreography? I really wasn’t sure whether I’d see it here on the tiny desk stage but I’m glad you commented about it.
Yeah that song is definitely producer heavy, but was still expecting it to be a lot more lively! Maybe even a bit faster rhythm? But I almost feel like he was saving the energy for ice cold, and I wasn't too disappointed haha
Maybe that's the reason the 'choreography' is someone solving a rubiks cube and reading a newspaper. A subtle nod that the band is pretty bored of performing the song and feels like they 'have to' play it at this point.
Fantastic don’t really think that’s the case?? i think the tiny desk space is a little too limited for them to go all the way out with that song; people who’ve seen them in concert say it’s much better in other venues

This performance doesn't do justice to their full live act. I think they felt a little constrained by the space, and it showed in their performance. They sounded much better both times I've seen them in an actual venue.
I feel like the second song specifically was pretty lacking without it's full arrangement, the chorus still carries things along enough though with the sweeping guitar chords. Also it seems like the lead singer wasn't very confident in the beginning of the song which gave it even more of a rough start, but by the end that was much better. I love the band though, I'm sure they're great live. I hope they make a lot more great music in the future. Though from this album and some statements I've heard from the band, I'm kinda worried they might veer into something that's simply too religious for my tastes.

i was walking around with ice cold stuck in my head all day and i was just hoping they’d play it when i clicked on this video :’) it’s starting to be one of my favorites on the album, such a lovely progression and message
But the chorus notes… had me SHOOKETH. That ✨vibrato✨ on the open vowel, and the falsetto… gave me CHILLS. As a proffessional singer i LOVE LOVE LOVE the way he articulates his voice. Also he’s got a really funny personality lol
I love half•alive but i just haven't seen enough from them live. I feel like the singer is yet kinda scared of his voice and what he can reach or not certain notes with his head voice, is something that happens to every singer actually but he needs to get better from that actually, he hits such well and high notes that is really weird to see him getting nervous about notes he can sing well. Anyways, i know he will improve!! And he is improving, i hope i can listen to some better videos of them live!! ❤

Forgetting the good things
Caught up in the problems
Please stop complaining

Is dwelling in the depths of you
A desperate longing to break through
When you're feeling that ice cold
Forgetting the good things
Caught up in the problems
Please stop complaining
Tell me something beautiful
Lovelier than usual
Holding that pain is holding you back
Keeping that rage is keeping you sad
Caught in the wake of memories past
Pulling you down 'til you drown in the bad
I wanna see you wake up
Shake free of all these hang-ups
Your heart is filling with glory
Shaping itself when you
Tell me something beautiful
Lovelier than usual
Relentless and immovable
Tell me something beautiful
Hope is the closest
Haven't you noticed
This beauty in focus
Is dwelling in the depths of you
A desperate longing to break through
Elevate, elevate, elevate (elevate)
Celebrate, celebrate, celebrate (celebrate)
Take a moment and appreciate
All the best things resting on the way
I wanna see you wake up
Shake free of all these hang ups
Your heart is filling with glory
Lifting you mind and lifting your worries
You're feeling that ice cold
Forgetting the good things
Caught up in your problems
Please stop complaining
Tell me something beautiful
Lovelier than usual

RUNAWAY lyrics:
I've been searching, nothing's working
I've been tripping, no one's perfect
Chasing vision, just the surface
Shirt's on backwards, not on purpose, yeah
I've been learning, something bigger
Expectations, feet were failing
I found blessings flowing from
The sight of heaven
Staring into my reflection
Redirecting my perfection somewhere else
When there isn't any progress
Lean on truth inside the promise, it is well
I hold my life out in front of me, dreams of who I want to be
I'm seeing every empty page
I find that everything I am is everything I should be
I don't need to run away
I don't need to run away
I don't need to run away
Something's working, heart is turning
Vision's clear, and still I'm learning
That what I am, what I am, what I am, what I am
Is something more than I can plan
Go, tell me now!
I don't need to run away
Have I been standing on a stage, or just a mirror?
I'm forced to face who I become
Searching for a new escape
I scan the exits that embrace an easy out
I hold my life out in front of me, dreams of who I want to be
I'm seeing every empty page
I find that everything I am is everything I should be
I don't need to run away
I don't need to run away

When I'm furthest from myself (Far away)
Feeling closer to the stars (Outer space)

I can feel a kick down in my soul
And it's pulling me back to earth to let me know
I am not a slave, can't be contained
So pick me from the dark and pull me from the grave
'Cause
I still feel alive
When it is hopeless, I start to notice
And I still feel alive
Falling forward, back into orbit
So, when I lose my gravity in this sleepy womb
Drifting as I dream, I'll wake up soon
To realize the hand of life is reaching out
To rid me of my pride, I call allegiance to myself
But I can feel a kick down in my soul
And it's pulling me back to earth to let me know
I am not a slave, can't be contained
So pick me from the dark and pull me from the grave
'Cause
I still feel alive
When it is hopeless, I start to notice
And I still feel alive
Falling forward, back into orbit (Oh)
And I still feel alive
It is hopeless, I start to notice (Oh)
And I still feel alive
Falling forward, back into orbit
I can feel a kick down in my soul
And it's pulling me back to earth to let me know
And this heart that beats inside of me will show
It will show
Floating in outer space, have I misplaced a part of my soul?
Lost in the in-between, or so it seems, I'm out of control
Floating in outer space, have I misplaced a part of my soul?
Lost in the in-between, but it can't keep me asleep for long, 'cause
I still feel alive
When it is hopeless, I start to notice
And I still feel alive
Falling forward, back into orbit
And I still feel alive
It is hopeless, I start to notice
And I still feel alive
Falling forward, back into orbit
I still feel alive (I can feel it)
When it is hopeless (It ain't hopeless)
I start to notice (Start to notice)
I still feel alive (I can feel it)
Falling forward (Falling forward)
I still feel alive
I still feel alive
Never fell in love with a band so fast before
This was lovely, he has such a nice voice and I loved the new song
i was walking around with ice cold stuck in my head all day and i was just hoping they’d play it when i clicked on this video :’) it’s starting to be one of my favorites on the album, such a lovely progression and message
Josh absolutely shaking the soul out of that shaker gives me life 😨
“And hearts” so precious
still feel really stood out to me. They found a way to change it while still keeping the energy, and I certainly don’t think of it as “lazy”
Sound good live!
I was having a bad day until I saw this was the new video today. Thank you guys. Music truly is therapy. ☺
I love these boys
7:35 is better than the kimbra version. Wish they would release this version as a single too.
You're caught up in the problems. Please stop complaining
I wouldn't say "better", but I do prefer it :)
it's great to see ppl that I discover and actually like start to frequent these Tiny Desk Concerts more often
3:48 voice crack, he is an incredible singer I really love their music, also his voice cracks are majestic
I think it's so amazing how great and yet totally unique each of these songs is when compared to the album versions, mad respect to all of them
One of the cleanest falsettos I’ve ever heard
When a Cello and violin is involved you know it's music worth listening to 🙏❤️ love it!!
Perfect. Runaway was so well done. Hey, is Oliver Tree coming on this? I think that'd be a wonderful performance.
true!!
Ugh yes please
YES
Hard agree
I love this band so much
