I love the symbolism of the clothes here. When the main singer is dissociating, the dancers are dressed like him and mimic his dancing. During the times when he's feeling like himself, they are all dressed uniquely and their movements are different (but still similar enough to keep a steady rhythm with one another).
I also feel the one at 2:01 when they all form a circle with their arms is very symbolic. Notice the main singer's face is in the "center" of their circle and when his mouth opens, the other members move their hands simotaniously. In my opinion this is their ways of saying "He speaks for us" As they are quite literally forming a large "mouth" with their arms. As he sings (opens his mouth) They essentially give their "blessing" or "co-signature" by moving their hands in rhythm with his mouth. That one may be pretty obvious to most

Bro, idgaf what anyone says. This is beautiful is so many ways... The choreography to me suggests how they are intertwined into one another's fate, helping each other and lifting one another up over and over; always holding one another, preventing the others from falling. If one slips, they all catch their brother. If one fails they all pull him up out of that failure and because they always held onto one another and mirrored one another they overcame it all and everything ends with them at their best, dapper, happy and energetic. This is powerful and beautiful to me.

this is some of the most masterful cinematography i’ve ever seen in a music video, not to mention that its accompanying one of the best and catchiest songs i’ve heard in recent memory. i can only thank the UA-cam algorithm for randomly uniting me with this awesome band. i can’t help but feel like they should definitely go on tour someday with OK Go and Ratatat, that would probably be one of the most awesome shows ever...a man can dream, i suppose ☺️
I can't stop watching this video. There are some songs that you can listen to an enjoy, but this video is just an experience I have to recreate over and over.
I love this music video so much you can just tell how much work was put into the choreography. It's so good that I used parts of it in my GCSE Drama chair duet piece
First of all, I'm not a native English speaker, so maybe you'll see some typos and other errors. And second, I've written a little theory about the music and the clip and why this moment (2:48 till the end) is so awesome to see, hear and feel. Maybe it's the fact that at that moment, he starts to act "normal". If you analyze the whole video, you'll notice that he has really clunky moves, like a robot, a machine. Even the color of the lights just leaves this feeling of flatness. At that moment he starts to move smoothly, like it wasn't a choreography, like he's not being controlled. Sometime later the lights just went normal, everything gains a different color. His eyes start to look around the whole room, instead of look into a single direction, almost like he's looking into nowhere (like he was doing the whole video). His face gets bright. He's just doing what he wants, and the lyrics just finish the message "I still feel alive". Yeah, I know that he says that the whole music, but every time he just says the phrase, he completes it with an "It is hopeless" right after. This time, the backing vocals complete the phrase with a subtle "It AIN'T hopeless". It's like he was being controlled all this time, and even when he says that he feels alive, he actually does not. Even the instrumental says something about that. In the first and second time, he sings the chorus, the instrumental is based on synths, giving this "mechanical" feeling. The third, and last, time he sings it he's being followed by the band, the actual human band, not the mechanical synth. Now he's free, he's glad to be, and he shares the feeling with us.. But then... At the and they're just sitting in the ground, all mechanical again. I think the whole message of this video is about how everything controls us, and in that case, I think a lot of their focus is on the media. Everything we do, everything we thought, all of it is influenced by the people we're around, and nowadays, with the unlimited growth of the internet, the people we're around are the online artists we love. We have this feeling that they're just normal humans like me and you, that they are not trying to manipulate us or something like that. But, the way they act actually influence us. Even when we think we're doing anything because we want, we are actually doing it because we saw someone doing it before and thought that it was cool. We secretly want to be like them, we unconsciously wanna be like them. Even when we think that we are free, like in the video, we were just being subtly controlled by "ourselves". Sometimes we want so much to be cool that we stop acting like ourselves. All this ''theory'' is kinda incomplete and maybe it doesn't even make any sense (I feel like this "media" part is a little off... but whatever), but it's something I came with when I was watching the video. Hope you find it interesting!
Wow, this is actually believable. The impersonators might be different sides of his personality, the choreography might be symbolic of him trying to hold them back. Maybe they represent the sides of a musician's mind that are heavily influenced, restricting him from true free expression or originality, until the all cooperate when they play the music together. On top of this, the instrumental in this song feels influenced by Daft Punk
When I was reading your comment I stumbled across another thought. There is this part around 2:30 where he faces these guys, and all of them starts to mirror each other's movements. A little after it he seems to notice that something is not right. Right after this, the part I talked about on the first comment starts to play. I think that this might be a symbolic gest to show that sometimes people are so heavily influenced by other artists that they lose their originality and everything starts to feel the same. That moment is him noticing that he's not himself anymore. And now I have a really polemic thought about this theory... Do you think that maybe this has something to do about the Twenty One Pilots thing? Everybody was saying that the band was a straight copy of TOP, and they might have a point (MIGHT!! I'm on the H.A side of the rope. They're really good in what they're doing and I hope that they do more!). Even with some singularities, the two bands sound kinda similar. It is a little bit weird that they launched this music now, which is really different from the ones that they launched before, and, by coincidence, maybe the music and the clip have a message about heavily influenced musicians. There are 3 possibilities here: 1 - This is a really big coincidence; 2 - Maybe this is the actual meaning of it and I guessed it right; 3 - I'm really paranoid, and this clip is so awesome that I have to find even more reasons for me to love it... The third one sounds like the right one...

A couple of their songs on the first EP did sound tøp influenced, this could easily be about him recognizing that he ended up with something too similar to his influences. Since the first time I watched this clip, the entire thing has impressed me, from choreography to production. I love the symbolism of the clothes here. When the main singer is dissociating, the dancers are dressed like him and mimic his dancing. During the times when he's feeling like himself, they are all dressed uniquely and their movements are different (but still similar enough to keep a steady rhythm with one another).

this is some of the most masterful cinematography i’ve ever seen in a music video, not to mention that its accompanying one of the best and catchiest songs i’ve heard in recent memory. i can only thank the UA-cam algorithm for randomly uniting me with this awesome band. i can’t help but feel like they should definitely go on tour someday with OK Go and Ratatat, that would probably be one of the most awesome shows ever...a man can dream, i suppose ☺️

I love this music video so much you can just tell how much work was put into the choreography. It's so good that I used parts of it in my GCSE Drama chair duet piece
First of all, I'm not a native English speaker, so maybe you'll see some typos and other errors. And second, I've written a little theory about the music and the clip and why this moment (2:48 till the end) is so awesome to see, hear and feel.
Maybe it's the fact that at that moment, he starts to act "normal". If you analyze the whole video, you'll notice that he has really clunky moves, like a robot, a machine. Even the color of the lights just leaves this feeling of flatness.
At that moment he starts to move smoothly, like it wasn't a choreography, like he's not being controlled. Sometime later the lights just went normal, everything gains a different color. His eyes start to look around the whole room, instead of look into a single direction, almost like he's looking into nowhere (like he was doing the whole video). His face gets bright. He's just doing what he wants, and the lyrics just finish the message "I still feel alive".
Yeah, I know that he says that the whole music, but every time he just says the phrase, he completes it with an "It is hopeless" right after. This time, the backing vocals complete the phrase with a subtle "It AIN'T hopeless". It's like he was being controlled all this time, and even when he says that he feels alive, he actually does not. Even the instrumental says something about that. In the first and second time, he sings the chorus, the instrumental is based on synths, giving this "mechanical" feeling. The third, and last, time he sings it he's being followed by the band, the actual human band, not the mechanical synth. Now he's free, he's glad to be, and he shares the feeling with us..
But then...
At the and they're just sitting in the ground, all mechanical again.
I think the whole message of this video is about how everything controls us, and in that case, I think a lot of their focus is on the media. Everything we do, everything we thought, all of it is influenced by the people we're around, and nowadays, with the unlimited growth of the internet, the people we're around are the online artists we love. We have this feeling that they're just normal humans like me and you, that they are not trying to manipulate us or something like that. But, the way they act actually influence us. Even when we think we're doing anything because we want, we are actually doing it because we saw someone doing it before and thought that it was cool. We secretly want to be like them, we unconsciously wanna be like them. Even when we think that we are free, like in the video, we were just being subtly controlled by "ourselves". Sometimes we want so much to be cool that we stop acting like ourselves.
All this ''theory'' is kinda incomplete and maybe it doesn't even make any sense (I feel like this "media" part is a little off... but whatever), but it's something I came with when I was watching the video. Hope you find it interesting!
Wow, this is actually believable. The impersonators might be different sides of his personality, the choreography might be symbolic of him trying to hold them back. Maybe they represent the sides of a musician's mind that are heavily influenced, restricting him from true free expression or originality, until the all cooperate when they play the music together. On top of this, the instrumental in this song feels influenced by Daft Punk

thought.
There is this part around 2:30 where he faces these guys, and all of them starts to mirror each other's movements. A little after it he seems to notice that something is not right. Right after this, the part I talked about on the first comment starts to play. I think that this might be a symbolic gest to show that sometimes people are so heavily influenced by other artists that they lose their originality and everything starts to feel the same. That moment is him noticing that he's not himself anymore.
And now I have a really polemic thought about this theory...
Do you think that maybe this has something to do about the Twenty One Pilots thing?
Everybody was saying that the band was a straight copy of TOP, and they might have a point (MIGHT!! I'm on the H.A side of the rope. They're really good in what they're doing and I hope that they do more!). Even with some singularities, the two bands sound kinda similar. It is a little bit weird that they launched this music now, which is really different from the ones that they launched before, and, by coincidence, maybe the music and the clip have a message about heavily influenced musicians.
There are 3 possibilities here:
1 - This is a really big coincidence;
2 - Maybe this is the actual meaning of it and I guessed it right;
3 - I'm really paranoid, and this clip is so awesome that I have to find even more reasons for me to love it...
The third one sounds like the right one...
We know for sure that there is meaning in everything he does in his self directed videos. Your interpretation is probably a lot closer than you imagine. Not as specified though.

A couple of their songs on the first EP did sound tøp influenced, this could easily be about him recognizing that he ended up with something too similar to his influences. Anyway, regardless of the meaning in the video, there is no way anybody could argue that it isn’t amazing

Since the first time I watched this clip, the entire thing has impressed me, from choreography to production. But my favourite part is 3:05 - 3:23, simply because it shows how effortlessly Josh moves naturally, which is why he dances so well, choreographed, also.
