    The Winds are truly spectacular. Thumbs up if I should visit them again in 2023!

      I discovered the Winds over 40 years ago and they still remain my favorite place to backpack. I definitely think you should visit them again and again. Thanks for the video and for the Finis Mitchell quote!

      Wow, I can only imagine how much the Winds have changed over the last 40 years. Popularity, climate, glaciers, trails. I’ve been fortunate enough this year to visit twice more!

      @@LayneComfort That's great, I will look for the trip report videos. Definitely the change in popularity and the number of fires. I try to use trails only to get in and out of the back country, hiking off trail as much as possible.

      @LayneComfort  Рік тому

      It’ll be probably over the winter time when they come out. Off trail is the way to explore the Winds!

      Thanks for not butchering the pronunciation of Popo Agie like most people do!!

    Can’t beat the Wind Rivers. Very nice job on the video. One other thought on picking a tent site - avoid being close to dead trees that could blow down in a storm. You never know.

    Thanks for sharing. We visited a lot of same places. Your first day was almost identical to mine a few years back. I still use my photo of Cathedral as my computer background. We did quite a bit of off trail too. Thanks again. Brought back a lot of memories. I uploaded photos of my two trips to youtube. See you on the trail. -dT

    Atta boy gettin those feet wet! You know for me it’s not a trip til you get that cryotherapy. This was a great one, and as I say this I’m reminiscing about this past weekend we had together. Looking forward to the next one!

    Thanks for the great video! It gave me a preview of some areas I will hopefully see for a trip I'm planning this summer. We will hit parts of Bears Ears and Lizard head trails, layover day in the Cirque, and Smith lakes basin. Can't wait!

    • @LayneComfort
      @LayneComfort  Рік тому

      Very cool Jason, sounds like you’ll be right in this same area! How are you planning on getting between Bears Ears Trail & the Smith Lakes area?

    • @jasonkamm5537
      @jasonkamm5537 Рік тому +1

      I plan to start at Bears Ears TH and camp at head of sand creek, then continue on Bears Ears then Lizard head to Lizard head meadows and camp for 2 nights, then follow north fork of popo agie to Sanford Park area and take that connector trail into smith lakes basin. No off trail for me!

    Found your channel after spending too much time on Joey's channel. I'm digging your content. I'm an avid backpacker, but I don't make videos of my adventures - mostly due to lack of equipment and somewhat from lack of interest in making movies. That said, I love watching other people's trips and tagging along on their adventures vicariously. Keep up the good work and godspeed your next trip!

    • @LayneComfort
      @LayneComfort  Рік тому +1

      Awesome Juan! Joey’s channel was definitely a huge inspiration for me to make videos of my adventures. The important thing is getting out there, not whether you’re filming or not!

    Seems like a splendid and fairly remote place. I'm all about Day 3. Sure was purdy. I liked seeing those glaciers. We're heading to Glacier National Park in August these views get me excited!

    Great video! Actually thinking about tracing your steps with this hike this coming July... Is the lake you're looking down on at 15:01 the lake you camped at --- Middle Lake? If yes, it gives a good "steepness" perspective of the off-trail hike...

    • @LayneComfort
      @LayneComfort  7 місяців тому

      Yes those are the lakes that I came up from in that basin, you can watch them shrink in the minute or so leading up to 15. That stretch is very steep and tough and made for a long, tiring day. On CalTopo it clocks in at 1100' over 0.6 mile - plus the boulders, trees, etc. Then you've still got two more passes to go to get back to the trail!

    You've outdone yourself on this one. Beautifully shot and narrated. I have to confess to some degree of trepidation when you do these long solo trips, though. Can't help it. I have kids your age. But, keep up the great work! 👍 By the way, I really appreciated the 5 points on tent placement; and what tent are you using?

    • @LayneComfort
      @LayneComfort  Рік тому

      Thanks Pop Pop, safety first is always the focus! On my last Winds video I included the quote “A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.” I use the XMid 1P - it’s a really great trekking pole tent.

    So how does your mind do on a long solo trip like this? I know my mind starts racing after a solo overnight, I don't know if I'd want to know what I'd uncover after a 6 day trip 😅Awesome video, looks absolutely stunning. Not sure if you upgraded on the camera setup but this video looks exceptionally crisp.

    • @LayneComfort
      @LayneComfort  Рік тому

      It's good to have the time away to focus and stay in tune. Plenty of people out there to talk to along the way. I think the camera just works better in the crisp mountain air!

      For me it takes at least two nights for my mind to settle in and slow down. After that it is a really neat experience. It is like you are finally "there". If that makes any sense.
