Wow - I've seen a lot of attempts/accounts of this route and yours was absolutely stunning to look at and listen to. You are so calm and meticulous with the tough parts... and I think you're one of the few parties I've seen who hasn't skipped over the big glacier crossing day because of problems or weather - so BRAVO on amazing resilience and capturing, by far, the most comprehensive and gorgeous footage of that section and this whole route. Beautiful and thoughtful narration. Cheers to my fellow Oregonians (and Wind River lovers!).
One of the best videos I’ve seen detailing an extended backpacking trip. You two are inspiring and thank you for taking on this adventure and recording it for us all. Looooooved it. ❤😊
Thanks for shooting and editing this amazing hike! It looks like it must have been a great adventure. Some challenging terrain covered with what appeared to be limited mountaineering gear.
Great video capturing the beauty of the Winds….did Alan’s route few years back, did part of skurka’s route last year. Plan to do from near raid peak to downs in September…definitely an ass kicker! Still have nightmares about west gully!😂
Seriously amazing video! And congrats on completing the hike! Question - I'm planning a section hike with a group of about 8 guys (Dads and sons). What were your favorite camping spots or lakes that you visited along the trip? I can't decide whether to stay in the South (Cirque, Pyramid Lake, Bonneville Basin, Washakie Pass/Lake) or the North (Island Lake Titcomb, Upper Jean, Summit Lake, etc). Any advice?
Great question! I was a particular fan of the southern section, especially around Lonesome Lake and Bewmark Lake. But honestly, you can’t go wrong-the entire range is stunning.
Do you have a detailed trip report posted anywhere, I'm very interested in your daily milage? Beautiful film btw, I can only hope I get these conditions in September when I go this year. Also, I saw your pack list in the description, surely you didn't film this on an Iphone?
This looks amazing. I do a lot of hiking in Colorado but never anything like this. Curious if there are grizzly bears or mountain lions in these remote areas and has anyone ever encountered any on one of these hikes? Great video by the way ❤️
I’ve hiked the Winds a bunch of times but not too much on the East side. You did a wonderful job of filming this. I’ve watched your video twice now. Did you do a 10 day food haul or were you able to do a food cache somewhere.
Thanks Steve! The Winds were insanely magnificent. By far one of my favorite thru hikes I’ve completed. We did a straight 10 day food haul without caching/resupplying.
Hi Rachel. I was coming back to remove the comment I left yesterday. It looks like you've already taken it down. My sincere apologies--it was presumptuous of me. Keep up the good work!

Thanks so much for the kind words! This was such a stellar route. Happy to hear from another Oregonian-happy hiking!

I'm impressed with y'alls fearlessness! Great timelapse of sunrise on the spire!
Gorgeous footage❤
Thanks!
Nicely documented! Brings back all those fond and sometimes painful :) memories. Thanks and good job!
I loved this video so much. Thank you! I am planning to hike Skurka's WRHR this August. I hope we get the same weather you did. Beautiful!
Hey thanks! It’s an incredible route, enjoy the journey!

The west gully was quite a heart-pumping way to start the route! But agreed, the entire journey is stellar and brutal. Enjoy your trip this fall!
Top shelf video, gentlemen! Bravo.

Thanks, and yep 100% filmed on my iPhone! This was the extent of my trip report, but I’m happy to answer whatever specific questions you have!

Thanks! The Winds are an incredible wilderness. It is definitely grizzly and cougar territory, though we didn’t run into any personally.
This is amazing!

Awesome hike great vid
Gorgeous!!! 😍
What dates were you guys there? We were there 7/29-8/6 and had to bail due to bad storms significantly slowing us down.
Ah that’s a bummer! We were there from 8/24-9/3. Seems that most of the storms had just ended a day or two before we got there.
Hey thanks for watching over there, that’s awesome!
I’m assuming you’re comfortable using a paper map when you guys are blazing your own trail😮 it’s pretty darn brave…
Thanks! We mostly use GPS and digital topo maps, with paper as a backup.
Wow!
LOVED this video and esp love fellow outdoor queers :)
Hey thanks for the support😄
Connected the dots.
