I'm glad that Kim is okay and feeling better. That's smart to always have a Plan B (C, D...) just in case. To your viewers watching this, it's a beautiful adventure made even more enjoyable by your great cinematography, friendly personality, and your good friends, too. The sunrises were spectacular, as were the wildflowers and mountains. It was meant to be for you all to just relax and enjoy hanging at Dad Lake, especially as Kim had a cold, so Plan C's day hike was just the ticket! Take care. Jenny 🐦🐾🐺🥀🌲

I haven't watched much of this yet however I did see the Big Sandy Trailhead. After being on a NOLS trip in the Winds for a month straight, coming down to the Big Sandy Trailhead and seeing cars was the most surreal experience. It's amazing how fast humans adapt to new normals. I'm gonna watch this now, I'm sure it'll be unpredictable as the Winds usually are.

Hey Catherine, love your channel. We had a similar experience last week in the Winds. Started at Elkhart Aug. 1 with my novice backpacker son and made it to Hobbs Lake for the night carrying 8 days of food. He caught a digestive bug and the weather started a week long monsoonal rainy period, so we hiked back out the next day, spent two nights on Pinedale, than initiated plan C. Went back in at Green River Lakes Aug. 5 planning for 4 nights, made it 7 miles in along the Highline, and got more rain overnight. So back out to camp through another rainy night at the Green River Lakes Campground. Plan D was out to Jackson and Yellowstone for wildlife and day hikes.

No matter which plan this turned out to be Cat it was still gorgeous. Wow those sunrises! Stunning! I’m so glad Kim is ok. It’s so important to listen to your body and to stay safe regardless of whether it’s inconvenient or not. She should not feel bad about it at all. I’ve read where the most rugged Sherpa guides in the Himalayas sometimes get altitude sickness. It just happens. I think this ended up being a stop and smell the roses kind of trip. Maybe covering more ground to see more things keeps you from seeing the things you were supposed to see. ❤🙏🏻

Some mosquitoes have all the luck! I feel for Kim and her tribulations. Probably both the altitude and the heat. I've had a hard time trying to get over Glen Peak in Kings Canyon N P. I know how scary altitude sickness is. Kim made it over Texas Pass last year so I'm thinking it must be the heat factor this time.
But what a great thing it is just to backpack out to a beautiful campsite overlooking mountains and lake and be with your good friends!
Home sweet home inside your tent!

I was testing out some new gear one year and got altitude sickness. Fell face first into some rock , smashed my phone in my hand. Looked like I got in a fight and lost LOL. I felt some symptoms but didn't think that much of it.... Good thing I was not standing near a cliff. Got to be careful and pay attention to what your body is telling you.

It may not have gone as planned, but still a great video. Personally, I think the Wind River Range is the most beautiful place in Wyoming, better than Yellowstone. The sunrise on day 2, blew me away. The first time I saw Green River Lakes and Squaretop, I thought I might be standing in the most beautiful place on Earth. And by the way, I periodically call it flattop also.

In my humble opinion it’s about time you simply chill and enjoy spending several days at one location. To always be on the go, never truly taking in all there is to see at any one given location, to me seems like one might be missing out on numerous focal points yet discovered. Like that unique shot of the colorful butterflies along the shoreline. 🏕

SO gorgeous here! Square top reminds me of half dome. I have only backpacked once, from Tuolumne Meadows to Yosemite Valley. I loved it so much. Very special to be where no car can go. But today I would not do this hike unless there was a hot spring as the destination. Well, I cannot do this hike but I would try if there were a hot spring. And there are TONS where you are!

Square Top is ominous. I remember traveling on that washboard dirt road and coming around the bend seeing the first glimpse of it. It’s been many many moons since I was there. ( the early 90s) I hope it isn’t overly developed.

As a child when we went to CO I always took a week to acclimatize. Luckily we had the time for that. Every since I had pneumonia at 8000 feet , I can only tolerate 5-6000 feet in a short time. I have trouble now in places that never used to bother me.

We know Table Rock for sure. We haven't hiked it but have seen it from other vantage points when we're in the NC mountains. We live close to Raleigh and definitely do not get out to the western part of the state as much as we'd like to.

We don't have to race from place to place to enjoy life. You showed us that beauty is all around us at each step in life. We just have to enjoy each step and side step along the way. Proud of you.

    Catherine...
Hello angel. Jeez, your hair is really long now. It looks fantastic.
You're a good friend and hiking partner. It was very kind of you to change your plans to help Kim and Steve make the most of their trip. I know you've dealt with altitude sickness yourself. It does suck. I've struggled through it a couple of times myself. I trust Kim was okay once you all got back to civilization.
The Winds are magnificent. I understand why you you love it so much. Personally I would have to get in the waters of those pristine mountain lakes. Ice cold or not.
Great video today sweetheart. Awesome scenery. Beautiful wildflowers. And the wildlife in the closing scenes, especially the moose calf. Outstanding!!
Safe travels Cat. Have fun always.
    Love you. 🌹 Randy. 🎼

I had to adjust my backpack trip last fall on that same trail. It’s good to be flexible. I also believe things happen for a reason. I’ll be up there in a few weeks to explore The Winds again. Good vid.

Change of plans are sometimes better. You have to take care of yourself. But what gorgeous views you gave us. P.s. we just came back from camping and we were also eaten alive by mosquitos. Not fun

What a great video! I will be leaving to the Winds in 3 weeks and was planning the same itinerary. Dads Lake seems prettier than some other video I saw on UA-cam, I'll camp there for sure. Thank you for sharing.
