Hi Britt, I just love your genuine "Stank-Face" reaction to the soulful sounds of Chris Stapleton's voice and his music, it is priceless!!! Well done!!!
This is his wife singing with him. She is the one who got him to play for folks. If you notice while he is singing he is looking at her, and this is because he was shy and scared at first to play before a crowd.
So refreshing to see someone who can appreciate more than just the lyrics. Your look at everything from story by instrument to vocal tone shows a true appreciation for music as a whole.
I am not generally a mainstream Country fan either, however, there is a whole underground genre, that is this funky, almost dirty Country, that I absolutely love!!! Interesting music fact, Country was originally called, Country Rhythm & Blues, so I think there are so many cross-overs, that we still are discovering, as we open our minds and hearts! Really enjoyed your reaction ❣❣❣
its amazing he has been writing songs for years, his wife, the woman singing back up on this talked him into singing. he has a serious issue with stage fright, but she helped him get over it to show off his incredible talent
Chris is a one of a kind artist with such an amazing talent, not to fail to point out his wife who is his backup singer is highly talented as well..this power duo is beyond the universe.
First time seeing you - you're cracking me up! I always feel like a girl who doesn't mind making goofy faces without being self-conscious could be my bestie. Hi Bestie! 🤣Chris has so many musical influences, you really can't pin down a genre. No, this is not necessarily typical country, it's the Genre of Chris and you cannot go wrong. Please try "Cold" live from the 2021 Country Music Awards - it'll give you a whole new range of faces to make. LOL
Chris Stapleton as lead singer of The Steel Drivers (bluegrass)...."Blue Side of the Mountain"....gives another perspective on the range and power of his voice... When I heard his duet with Timberlake on "TN Whiskey" and "Drink You Away" at the CMA's I came up outta my chair....by the way, the background music and tune is based on Etta James' "I'd Rather Be A Blind Girl"....
Chris grew up deep in Eastern Kentucky Coal Country - musical talent runs deep and true deep in those hills and hollers (hollows), and is very much part of the whole culture there. His hometown is not far from the birthplace of country’s legendary queen Loretta Lynn (and her also famous little sister Crystal Gayle) .
Chris transcends genres...a couple of other bangers are I Was Wrong (Austin City Limits), Death Row, Fool Me Again, and Fire Away is a punch in the gut emotional song...
Loved your Reaction. Chris Stapleton is fun hole to disappear into! Strawberry wine is tasty, especially homemade variety. Another Country act with good storytelling and powerful vocals is Sugarland lots of songs. Most Raw is Stay, think there is a official video. Enjoy Peace.
Chris is one of those Singers that sounds better Live than in the Studio, it don't matter what Song, he sounds better Live, not to mention when Britt does that face, my face automatically does the same thing, idk why, but I'm loving it. You gotta here his "I was Wrong" live and him singing "Tennessee Whiskey" and "Can't drink you away" alongside Justin Timberlake. Also that Woman that was singing alongside him is his Wife, Morgane and her voice meshes well with his.
Britt, absolutely loved your reaction to this music video. Chris Stapleton is a country singer, but this song is more Blues than country, and I think that's what drew you in right away. And he was singing "Warm as a glass of brandy" on those long runs. You know, the ones that had you swooning! Loved everything about your reaction in this one. Keep them coming girl!
Loved your reaction. This man is a generational talent. Always, always find a live performance. Some of my favs: Live at The Bing Lounge - Barely Alive, written when he was with The Jompson Brothers Band (a side hustle) & Your Man written for Morgan on Valentine's Day in 2005. (It was a hit for Josh Turner because Chris was "only" a songwriter at that time.) Another is a very early one: Sandy Beaches Cruise #12 with (another side-hustle) The Steeldrivers Band in 2006 - Ain't No Way This Love Is Wrong (written by Carolyn Franklin, Aretha's older sister). He's very young, baby-faced & has on kinda nerdy glasses. To me he looks like he just left those bio-medical engineering & economics classes he attended for 3 years. Aren't you glad he quit that?
You and Jamal are absolutely the best reaction videos on YT. Respect to both of you for uniting us all in music. Music ain't about color, it's about the soul within where we are all the same.
His wife convinced him to start performing. He writes to start because he suffers terrible stage fright. He looks to her on stage to stay calm. You have to do his first ever live performance for a radio station called What are you listening to? It’s pure fire 🔥 my daughter was at this Austin city limits show.
I love watching someone listen to Chris for the first time. I had to laugh because I also have the same facial expressions as you when I hear someone that just moves me....:)
I just stumbled upon your channel and this is the third video I've watched and ... wow, I absolutely love your reaction. What an awesome personality! You are so full of life, that your smile is contagious! :)
People always say they don't know about Tennessee Whiskey but most have heard of Jack Daniels....same. That is his wife on back up vocals. They have 5 children now. He was raised on country, blue grass.
For the people that don’t know. Chris has written 1,000’s of songs before he discovered his voice, that his wife brought out. He also suffers from extreme stage fright. A lot of times you’ll see him just staring at her pretending she’s the only one there!
Not completely true. He has written a lot of songs for everyone from Adele to Vince Gill to Timberlake and even done songs for movie tracks, but he moved to Nashville in 2001 for the purpose of making and recording music. He became the frontman for The Steeldrivers in 2007 that had 2 hit records that made it to #2 on the Bluegrass chart, and formed the band The Jompson Brothers in 2010 and had an album with them. He's also sang backup vocals for a long time for a lot of other artists and groups before and after his two bands got together, and sung on his own before having Traveller hitting it big. Morgane, his wife and also a singer song writer, has supported him and sang with him for a long time and helped him go through over 15 years of his music to pick out the songs to record for the Traveller, but they didn't meet until 2003 when they were both already working for neighboring publishing companies as singer/song writers. She's supported, helped with and sang on his music but he was already writing and singing for years before he met her. The groups he joined/started and albums just didn't start till after they met. She didn't "bring out" his voice, she's just helped him to carry it on through the years.
@@kevinfleming9919 Yeah, the stage fright situation has been blown way out of proportion over time as it's been repeated over and over like the telephone game.
I am so glad that you picked the live version of this song to react to. This song was written by George Jones, and when he recorded it, it was in a different time signature. Chris Stapleton and his wife sing it in this bluesy time signature. THEY ARE GREAT!
Morgane Stapleton his wife is a recognized singer in her own right. She has done singles and fantastic duets with people like John Prine. Hey Britt just so you know , Chris started off writing songs for many others who had big hits with the songs he wrote. His wife pushed him to start singing his own songs. Chris has stage fright and thats why his wife sings backup & harmony vocals onstage with him. Ironically Chris DID NOT WRITE this song , this is a cover of a song written by Dean Dillon & Linda Hargrove. First recorded version was released in 1981 by David Allen Coe & in 1983 George Jones released a version of it. I would say Chris's version is by far the most popular version. As for this not sounding typically country that would be cause Chris borrowed the guitar intro & tone from blues singer Etta James song "I'd Rather Go Blind". If you listen to the 2 songs back to back you'll hear what i'm talking about. A great song by Chris to check out is " I Was Wrong" from the Austin City Limits show.
🎸💯 Chris Stapleton's bluesy, gritty, soulful voice & crazy guitar skillz REALLY do it for me‼🔥 You've gotta check out his CMA and Grammy winning "Cold" from his last album Starting Over. It's my most favorite Chris Stapleton joint and I love all of his stuff! "Barely Alive" (acoustic version) is extra special, too! I totally got you when you said instruments are talking a story. It's like he's expressing his feelings through the guitar. A good solo can tell you things without using words.
The story I heard was that he was a journeyman song writer for others in the country community and some one talked him into recording his own music (although this is a cover) and magic hit.
Same. I heard it was his wife who talked him into it. She told him 1 everyone needs to hear your voice and 2 she would always be by his side when he did because he was scared to death of singing in front of others
