I know this vid is old but for anyone still watching, there is a much better way to farm nightmare fuel. A much higher yield and without using a nightmare amulet! Firstly, you need to find out at what number your character goes insane. Secondly, you need to have sanity and insanity inducing items. I recommend kelp (raw or cooked) and dried kelp (drying rack) because it's easy to get once you've gone to lunar islands. You can use a boat to push as many as you want into a corner for easy harvesting. (I have 52 shoved into a corner near my base) What you need to do is to stay right on the verge of insanity. Not insane, but around 5-10 points above that. That's why you need to find out what the number is. Kelp is very useful for that, as the raw form only removes 10 sanity and the cooked form 5. Dried kelp restores 10 sanity and dries as fast as 1/4 of a day, so it's not very hard to make. See, the game has a mechanic where it will spawn a single crawling horror when you are about to go insane. Probably to warn players. This is very consistent, so by keeping your sanity right at the edge, then going insane when the crawler spawns, you basically exploit that and make them spawn very quickly! Additionally, you'll only be fighting 1 crawling horror at a time, making it very easy and more efficient since you don't waste time kiting. With this method, I pulled around 50 nightmare fuel in a single day! Definitely try it.
Just saying, with 4 amulets I got 96 (i already count out the fuels that I used to make the amulets, which is 4) nightmare fuel in one hour and used 3 lunar swords
Thanks for mentioning that. I have trouble doing that later in the game. It works fine in an early world though. I think it might be more my cpu rather than the connection. Or maybe I'm supposed to adjust something in the game settings.
First If you wanna try this comment trick Turn lag compensate off You will always get hit before avoiding With lag compensate on And you can do this with terrorbeak too
if you dont want to waste any resources just go through wormhole 5-6 times and your sanity is gone. Kill the creatures then go 1-2 times thought it and repeat until satisfied. No ruins needed, can be done on first day and its easy.
I main maxwell and i didnt think about it. I was trying to wear shadow armor and dark sword to go insane. That would be better for me to gather nightmare fuel for my stuff.

Note: Don’t do this as Wendy. Shadows are one of the few things Abby can’t help with and so it takes ages to kill them and it’s easy to get overwhelmed. *However* Wendy has a method of fuel farming unique to her that’s more efficient than this. She can farm shadow spelunky in the village biome for tones of fuel every nightmare phase due to Abby’s AoE damage. Food and fuel if you make a camp down there is a non-issue as the monke drop beard hair, poop, binnanas and morsels in addition to fuel.
Edgy Rick I've actually found purple gems in tumbleweed. Plus it's very easy to get red and blue gems from grave digging while also decreasing your sanity
U can still use it very early on the game to farm fuel, u can equip it just for a brief moment in order to spawn shadow creatures on low sanity or just until u get agro and then when u are about to attack on high sanity, u can get about 100-200 fuel per amulet that way, still cost a lot, but is quite convenient since it takes quite a while for shadow creatures to spawn and u can kill the ones that randomly spawn at
yeah so I'm not afraid of the creatures that spawn but the sounds and colorchange just give me a headache, so I always get annoying when they don't spawn when I'm insane. If it takes too long I usually just plant some pine cones as woodie or eat some cooked green caps
It's not as efficient, but my way of farming nightmare fuel is to lose sanity and gather rabbits in traps, then I farm monster meat, nightmare fuel and bearded hair at the same time.
If you are playing with other people on a server, you can have one person remain constantly insane, then another person kills all of the insane person’s shadow creatures. Since the already sane person is killing the shadow creatures, the insane player doesn’t get the sanity boost and remains insane. No nightmare amulets required.
Can you combo the amulet's extra nightmare spawn ability with you actually being insane? you know, to save durability and still get the bonus spawn rate.(pop medal on, get spawns, unequip kill creatures, repeat.) Or do the extra nightmares despawn when you put the medallion away?
I found a new way to get lots of Nightmare fuel (middle/ late game): You need to be in a cave and find some apes near a rhino. After some time the apes will turn into shadow apes and they want to kill you and they follow you a long time. Let follow you so many apes as possible and lure them near the rhino. Try to land a hit on the apes by running away from the Rhino. The target is: to let the Rhino hit the Apes. They will die instantly. The Apes will drop lots of hair, poop, bananas, meat and nightmare Fuel. Its a bit hard but if the equipment is well enough and experience to it should be manageable. Have a nice Loot!
Go to the last ruuns of the Hamlet world and find the dark well. Each nightmare fuel will get you 1-3 ametyst which is infinite telelocators in each world
If they pile up like that I would remove the amulet and let them eventually despawn. But that is the reason I always prioritize the terrorbeaks whenever they spawn, so they are unlikely to pile up like that.
What is the purpose of constantly switching between pick axe and dark sword? And how do u do that? I didn't see u point over the item slot to switch it. Seems it switches automatically
I think this guide is a little bit outdated already by now. But that is not a pick axe, it is a walking cane. The purpose of the cane is to give extra speed. I'm switching by pressing "1" on the keyboard which is the item slot where the cane and sword are placed.

Great tutorial. I was just wandering if I could remove the amulet and still fight the shadow creatures. Good to know. Sorry for going off topic, but I noticed you have a pet as well. But it kept getting on my nerves begging for food every day or even twice a day. Eventually I decided to abandon it. What about you?
Yes, I do get tired of my pet. I don't really constantly feed them anything. I just do it sometimes to get rid of some inventory. This is why I really only like the dog and the baby dragonfly pet. They are the only ones who don't make too much noise since I never really bother to feed them. I have abandoned every pet except for those 2 :D
Oh, it was not a question, I meant to say that thanks to your video I already learned that. But thanks, anyway. :) Dragonfly pet? Impressive. Did you get lucky fighting the Dragonfly on your own, or did you fight with other players? Also, did you chill the adorable lavae right away, or did you have it as a pet for some time? If so, did it bother you by putting things on fire?
I usually kill Dragonfly on my own. But it's always faster with other players. The lavae egg drop rate is pretty decent, so I have a bunch of those eggs already. Yeah I chilled it with an ice staff immediately after it hatched. I'm always extra careful with stuff that can cause fire hehe.
Oh, well, I guess the warmth and the ability to cook on the go is not really worth the hassle. Still, my curiosity would probably get the best of me. :)
Hi. I'm having a bit of a problem. I tried to spawn shadow creatures then unequip the amulet as you suggested, but I found out that they turn invisible and lose their agro very quickly. While I'm able to dodge Crawling Horror's attack then strike right away, and eventually kill him that way if I don't take too long, in the case of Terror Beak, as soon as I dodge his attack he goes into his intimidating animation and turns invisible in the middle of it, before I can even hit him. I have to put the amulet back on to see him again. Have you experienced that yourself? I'm currently disappointed in how inefficient my use of the amulet was. Btw, does it lose 1% durability as soon as you put it on? I believe I had it on slightly over a minute altogether, switching back and forth, but there's only around 20% left.
