- Keokuk is a city in and a county seat of Lee County, Iowa. Keokuk is famous for being the “Geode Capital of the United States” because of the large number of geode sites around the area. The city is named after the Sauk chief Keokuk, who is thought to be buried in Rand Park. It is in the extreme southeast corner of Iowa, where the Des Moines River meets the Mississippi. Keokuk was incorporated on December 13, 1847.

My wife was born and raised in Keokuk and still loves this town. I was born and raised in Kahoka witch is close to Keokuk and I love Keokuk also. I don't like people talking bad about it.
I really enjoyed visiting the city. So much history in this Mississippi River city.
Good video of a neat old river town. Parents used to take us to the big park overlooking the river. 2e used to go to the locks & watch them work the barges through
Thanks for posting!!!
Thanks for sharing
Love these river towns.
Me too!
That beautiful stone house at 15:30, on the dead end with the river view? It's currently selling for less than $200K. I sure wish that artists and remote workers would discover the beauty of these faded river towns, move there and revive them, and preserve the lovely architecture. ETA: Thank you so much for taking this brisk walk through the most historic and pretty parts of Keokuk. This town gets insulted far more than it should be by those who don't appreciate it or understand its modern challenges.
I remember that house. I had a great time exploring that neighborhood. Would love to purchase a home there - even if it took years to renovate. But, I'd have to hire out a lot of the work because I'm not a great carpenter, electrician or plumber - but I'm great out ideas on how to renovate homes. My home is 112 years old here in KC and totally restored (not by me - but I was the general contractor).
@WanderingWalksofWonder I would be in the same boat, but I do love to dream. 😁 I'll bet your home is gorgeous! 🏡
Amazing video.
I'm your Fan

I was born here and lived here till about 11 years old. It's not what it use to be. That theater use to be booming. We had our school plays there actually. The whole town was filled with life. Great burgers at old Jack harringtons bar which is something different now. People use to be proud living there. It's declined horribly
Keokuk looks like it was in a great geographical location when the river was the lifeblood of civilization but now it appears too remote to stand on its own with what little services and population has to offer. A city with no direction... And a drug problem. I want to like this place but I don't see how it turns around. Sad.
Hi, i wanna ask do you know Lukas Jake Meyers from Keokuk?
@@sassyluella2196 no sorry I don't
@Bonzi_Buddy Hannibal MO to the south seems to be holding steady. There might be some issue in Iowa tax policy that's causing job loss in Keokuk, Burlington, Fort Madison, and Ottumwa. There is some population loss in Hannibal as well. Local people in Keokuk could commute to jobs in Hannibal. I live near a major Texas city and long job commutes are common here. The Avenue of the Saints passes through Keokuk. It's built to interstate hwy specs and will eventually be given a new federal route number.
Heard of this place
the atmosphere is quiet
I'm the mailman that says morning at 5 mins 35 Second mark. 😀 You see a few mail trucks during this video.
No way! That is so cool! I really enjoyed wandering around Keokuk and learning about its history.
I think you're the only one walking though.
Quiet Sunday morning when I filmed
Hillbilly towns dead now
Hillbilly town? It's not the south
