Great video. I'm a Florida guy but the same things apply to catching snook from the beach, a pier or a jetty. My dad had a custom surf fishing rod built back in the early '70's that lasted three decades but not many people making custom rods anymore. There are stores online that sell the parts to build your own but you are going to need a good vise that won't damage the blank and a tool for winding the thread on the guides and also the right adhesives, and if you want to make it look pretty the right varnish.

My fishing started with looking up videos on how to catch reds. My wife and daughter are newer to fishing and we have a week at Murrells Inlet, SC (1st week in October 2024). This is one of the best videos I've seen so far - real tips that appear to produce real results. We'll try to be good students and put what we've learned to the test this week. Our goal is simply to catch enough fish for a meal (and an unstated goal of having fun doing it). While I hear jetty's are great places to fish, I think we'll skip trying those this time. Do you recommend pier fishing for beginners like us - or maybe surf fishing over jetty fishing? Shrimp, mullet, and blue crab...what other bait would you recomment for Reds - Bull Reds? Are blood works any good for fishing in Murrells Inlet, SC? Thanks in advance for any tips and a very informative video.
Hey do you always tie on your leader or do you ever use a snap/clasp to attach it to main line?Do you think that would be a weak point so you just tie it?
Either way, the clasp has to be tied to a knot. The clasp itself can be a weak point, that makes 2 weak points. I never had a problem with just a knot to leader.
