- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed into law a bill lowering the military mobilisation age by two years from 27 to 25.
Kyiv has faced heavy losses on the battlefield after two years of war, whereas Russia has benefited from a sizeable advantage in manpower.
The move will allow Ukraine to call up more people to replenish its reserves, after volunteer numbers dropped.
Mr Zelensky said in December that 500,000 more soldiers were needed.

You still need to rotate out troop deployments, people can't fight 24/7 for 2 years and expect to still be in top condition, it's physically impossible, what this draft is needed for is to be able to have the most heavily warn down units rotated out to be able to recuperate behind the lines with the new drafted units filling the line

What's the big deal about lowering the age of conscription to 25? In South. Africa it was normal to do military service straight after High School. Same in the US, not so?
The big deal is that Ukraine is going to need those 25 year-olds to rebuild after this mess is over. The country is going to be flooded with widows, and physically and psychologically impaired war damaged elders with mental scars and issues that will persist far into the distant future. Adding a fresh wave of 25 year olds to this unnecessary meat grinder that has already been lost is a total nonsense. Lowering the age at this time shows desperation.

The average age of Ukrainian soldiers at the line of contact is like 46. Sorry, but this makes no sense. Besides, they have no realiable registry of their men and their medical status is unknown due to widespread corruption among the medical staff. They have to do all of that anew.

They just need fresh troops so the troops rotating out can train them and get a much needed rest. Winter is over and the front line needs to be freshened up. If you are on the front line you won't leave it until you are relieved. Some of these troops have been fighting for months,barely hanging on physically and mentally. They went into the fight unseasoned and trained but will come back trained to k*ll,the ones who do not become casualties that is. Casualties as in injured,KIA or missing in action or AWOL. There are a lot of injured troops coming back from the front lines and lot of troops that went to those front lines and never came back. You have to refresh your forces on the front line. It's better to draw them up and start getting them trained early and implement them into the front line for further training before you rotate the troops they are relieving out. You rotate them in with weapons and ammunition.

Russia had planned to topple the Ukrainian government to denazify all of Ukraine, yet only 20% of Ukraine is currently occupied. This includes the territory of Donetsk, Luhansk, and Crimea, which was taken in 2014. Russia suffered a lot of setbacks, including the retreat from the outskirts of Kyiv, and the retreat from Kharkiv, and the retreat from Kharkiv.
So is Russia winning? No, most certainly not. At the current rate, it will take Russia well over 200 years before Russia reaches Kyiv, let alone Lviv.

Looking at a lot of comments, it is amazing to see people just saying, "Don't fight/Just let him win" Well, Hitler would have loved that. Putin will not stop at Ukraine, and people don't get what power Russia gets if they take Ukraine.
Russia's economic power is gas/oil/grain. Two of those only have so long left; then, who is Russia on the world stage? If they take Ukraine, they will have a combined grain haul of 25%, which is more than the EU combined. Russia will be able to do as they please. Take Moldova, then Estonia and Latvia (yes, it might take a decade or so). Even though those last two are in NATO, can anyone really see NATO going to war for two countries with less than 2 million in them? The trump card Russia would also have is if NATO kicked off, just stop grain sales and send the world into chaos. They could wreck world economies with the simple thing of grain.
Putin is not wasting 100,000 lives or 100 billions of dollars for the greater good. He sees Ukraine as a good investment/power.

I believe in Ukraine you can volunteer at 18. Or look it. I would bet there are younger on the front line.

If they want, they can mobilize a few hundred thousand more people, or a few million, they can, but Ukraine cannot. So I ask you, am I right?
