  • As human beings, we have this superpower to grow, change and adapt. But that adaptation isn't always for the good, and changing our dark side habits can be tricky and hard to crack. In this video I use a metaphor to teach you what neuroplasticity is, why it's important and what we need to understand if we want to harness it for good.

    Hi Irene, I watched this 'old video' again and I want to say that I am so thankful to your wonderful work. thanks of you I finally understood my chronic pain and fatigue conditions and I was able to heal. Never thought that was possible (after my 70th) A pity that I not discovered it earlier in my life, but it's never too late. I hope that I have some more time tot love and enjoy my life in a healthier way. Honestly, I am convinced of that. THANK YOU 😍😍😍 and I wish you to be healthy and inspired to go on with your fantastic work!

    Hi Irene, I enjoyed your video. I particularly enjoyed your presentation, how you spoke slowly and clearly and made eye contact. The metaphor, too, was clear. Yes, I have made changes and continue to make changes, mostly through my practice and teaching of Nonviolent Communication. Very slow going. I still have my triggers that hop me back onto the old track, and I understand that something can stimulate unhealed trauma. I find myself acting like the three year old child that I was who didn't have the resources of a grown woman. Challenging! Thank you again for bringing some clarity to a very complex subject. I plan to watch your other videos.

      Hi Ronnie, thanks for being here and taking the time to comment. I appreciate it.
      I would suggest to keep watching my videos, and also check out my free resources and programs via my site. I think what I have over there will help makes sense of the unhealed trauma and triggers.
      Take care!! Irene.

    Dear Irene - I love your videos; there's so much in them that explains weird conversations or incidents in my childhood and beyond (and possibly before!). I'm using the tapping modality, TFT, to help me approach this work. I have huge problems every time I believe a book, or a video, or a modality is going to help me recover from CPTSD and burnout - I get very tense and I have to take my time starting it (and on occasion, I have found that in fact whatever it was didn't help - duh!). As you may know, the tapping therapists talk about reversing the polarities, which is another way of saying that there are ways of helping clear blocks, confusion, whatever - and in someone with such early trauma, they're going to be deep-seated and need a lot of work. These are used with the EFT or TFT algorithms. So recently I found that the strongest way to do this is to use Collarbone Breathing, and I'm using that with tapping on complex trauma with shame. At one point, I was thinking maybe I just needed to do this several times a day and I wouldn't need to do anything else! But the first thing that happened was, I got a pulled muscle in the left side of my waist - warning! Take another look at this! So I'm using that to start helping me dismantle my train and prepare myself for all the work necessary. Someone said that when you're working on early childhood trauma, all you have to do is change everything. Which ain't easy if you've got brain fog on top of everything else! And reading for instance your essays and Stephen Levine's books takes a long time and lots of re-reading. So. Many thanks for your brilliant work and keep 'em coming! (Could anyone actually stop you!

    My mother was a source of great pain when I was young. I have worked my whole life to forgive. Years of therapy. She just bought me a home. I keep telling myself that "I should be happy." This is stuffing down the huge rage I have guess I have not completely dealt with.

    This metaphor really helped me...I had just read your ebook and I'm taking the 21 day course. The metaphor and the complexity you describe of changing the course of the train and all it's ramifications reached me. Thank you.

    What a wonderful and clear explanation! (I always love explanations with metaphors. It helps me to understand the 'dry' theory)
    Through your explanation it is so obvious to me why it is so hard to change unhealthy or 'bad' habits.
    The traintrack metaphor is clear. 'Only' thing that I would love to know, as a continuation on this video, is which concrete steps you mean:
    Which steps do I take to 'slow the train down, take the stuff out, dismantle the train and built it up on the new track' etc. ?
    I would love it if you could take another video on this. (Sort of 'part 2')
    Love from the Netherlands,
    Savannah 😘

    I stopped drinking and smoking and seemed like things got worse 😆

    • @teamlyon3109

      Hi Tina Malave, Jen here from team Lyon. This can happen for sure when we haven't first build nervous system regulation and capacity. Often we use things like smoking and drinking to help to manage or "cope" with underlying feelings and sensations that might be too much for our system to handle on their own.
      So when we stop doing those things without bringing something else to do the job they were doing (like growing nervous system regulation, for ecample), we can sometimes start to feel a lot more and/or symptoms may worsen. The work Irene teaches is all about growing this foundational regulation and capacity.

    wow, change seems to require A LOT OF STEPS AND TIME AND EFFORT

    • @IreneLyon
      @IreneLyon  6 років тому

      It can. Especially when the time and steps that got us to where we are at weren't very conducive to giving us a healthy regulated nervous system!

    What are the practical steps to changing the train track?

    • @IreneLyon
      @IreneLyon  7 років тому +2

      Hi Kellie
      It's not linear. It depends on the level of trauma, whether it was early trauma or developmental and/or shock trauma. I'd recommend signing up for a video training series I've got coming up on March 9th. In the 3rd video I cover the practical steps, but the 1st and 2nd video covers important theory to understand. All the details are on my site: www.irenelyon.com
      Bottom line though:
      1 - Education
      2 - Getting more biological awareness on board
      3 - Working at the level of the stress physiology.
      Irene :)

    But what you propose is really good for our health? Can You promise? Or it is only marketing and very very simple exercises that one can find everywhere?
    Excuse me, but I have spent thousands of Euro (I live in Europe), but many times the programs I bought were only a little piece of a larger matter!!
