I heard a while back where people would find it cheaper to pay for a year’s allotment than it would be to pay the company rate to use the local dump/waste site to dump their building waste. Hopefully you’ll come to an end of finding such nasty rubbish in your plot. You’re doing fantastic work by removing it, but wish you didn’t have to.
It's true, It's cheaper to rent an allotment for a year than it is to hire a skip. And you can put more rubbish into an average plot. Some of the plots on this site are a disgrace.
Hello Eco Life, congratulations on your allotment, the site looks full of potential. I am looking forward to following your journey as you clear the site and transform it. The shed is looking better already. :)
So glad I’ve just found you. I can enjoy the journey with you now. It’s always nice to watch someone nearby. I don’t have an allotment myself, I’d love to have one, but with two young kids and work I just wouldn’t have the time. I’ve got plenty in the garden to keep me busy though. Looking forward to updates. Take care.
Thanks for your good wishes. The lady on the plot behind mine is in exactly the same situation as you but she's keen and tries to do what she can. We help her a little and there is no pressure to have an immaculate plot. The important thing is that she's happy in the fresh air and getting some exercise. If you can find a small plot nearby, go for it.
Looks like it’s been vacant for a long time might have been a greenhouse there at some point I get a petroll digger all over the poly and rake out what you can put raised beds in and mulch
I agree but there was a snag. When I got the plot in April there were birds nesting in the hedges and brambles at the back so I had to leave it till they left in October .
that is very frustrating! Is the allotment built on an old dump? or perhaps did a greenhouse get demolished and eft like that? You should get a free year on that site just because of all the trash you had to clean up! good job so far! it is a start and at least you can see how much you have accomplished!
My neighbour told me there was a greenhouse that was taken down. Unfortunately some of the plots are quite bad and we don't get a discount. They will strim the weeds and collect the rubbish for free so that's some help.
that is a help then. But that glass is dangerous! still it is a big plot for you and if you plan on having a good number of years there, maybe worth it. You can really see the potential. I am looking forward to watching your plot change in the coming year! you might want to rent a metal detector too for a day or so, just to find all the nails and bits lying around! your shed is a delight! if only they had maintained the roof all the damp damage would be adverted. now you have quite a job ahead to fix it. do you think the concrete was intended to repair the brick work? well be patient with your archeological dig, you might find treasures! 😃❤️❤️❤️

There were many weeds like dandelion and dock and a digger would just spread the roots around. I'm in the process of digging them out individually.
That's the trouble with broken glass, you'll be "harvesting" it for several years. But, keep up the good work!
Thanks. Unfortunately it's a "harvest" for which I have no use for!
Keep up the good work . you will have fun . no worries
Thank you
Great video. Thank you for sharing your experience. Liked and subscribed!
Thank you
Save that shovel give it a clean up, sharpen the edge and bang a handle on it.
It's handy as a short handled shovel for containers etc. where a big shovel is too much.
I would have started at the back of the plot and worked forward
Glass should not have place on allotment good luck with it
