Let's don't forget the South Eastern, the Cranbourne line desperately needs to be extended, Clyde and Clyde North is growing rapidly year by year, it seems that the extension of the Cranbourne has been neglected.

i think the fact that Melton station is beinhg rebuilt as a part of the LXRP as a 4 platform station is good as it not only allows Vline to increase its frequency by having dedicated terminating platforms in the short term, but for thelong term when this line is quadruplicated and electrified, malton station will be ready from day 1 with terminating platforms for metro

I don’t understand why we keep up this charade that melton is a suburb of Melbourne. It’s more like a regional town. People keep moving there because it’s ’Melbourne’ and then complain when they have transport commensurate with a small town 10-20 kms from the nearest actual suburbs let alone the CBD.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Melton wasn't actually classed as a suburb until 2023, right? Anyway, point taken, it's a suburb *now*. The LXRP project to remove all the nearby level crossings (including the one at Truganina) would be a pre-requisite for electrification, which in turn would be a pre-requisite for more frequent services. This will all take time, especially in the current political/financial climate. But at least work is progressing. This in no way validates the point that the West is terribly under-funded when it comes to public transport & other infrastructure, and probably always will be. There are new suburbs in the outer west with one road in, one road out, and not even bus services. So, Melton is actually better off than many other nearby localities!

from what i remember, melton was considered a suburb from 2006 onwards on the 2006 census 🤔 i might be wrong but im almost certain it wasnt that late 2023!

I’d imagine it might have something to do with Melton and surrounds being safe Labor territory who will vote labor regardless. The more marginal seats around the east and south east get the new stations, line extensions (east pakenham), new trains (hcmt in Pakenham and x-traps in Frankston in 2010), electrification etc because they will vote accordingly and the seats are marginal. Every single western suburbs seat is held by Labor and as a result less money will pour into these seats because they are less important to winning them the election.

20 mins on peak isnt even bad, thats what the majority of suburban stations get, 1 hour off peak needs to be upped to more like 40 mins but that can easily be done

A good way to finance such railway projects is to include a surcharge in car registrations? this will also try and encourage more public transport use at the same time by offering a discount on the surcharge if the registered owner uses the train services during times when road traffic is at it's worst?

Yep. And while we're at it, we introduce registration for cyclists to help pay the costs of their under utilized, sky high expensive infrastructure.

I thought people only move to Melton to sit on the dole for life?

Decades of neglect by a series of LNP governments means that it has taken a long time to address all of the transport problems. This gov' is spending big time on transport and all the media (and people like you) does is complain about spending. If you want better services, vote for a gov that is not afraid to build. Debt is good if you get better services.

i'm all for electrifying Victoria as far as possible. but there are dreams that will never be had in our lifetimes. we won't have electrics down that way until 2040 at EARLIEST. you would have to electrify the whole stretch including Ardeer, Deer Park, Caroline Springs, Rockbank and Cobblebank. and all that before you could even start on Melton. politics is a ridiculously massive factor here, and its always iffy on if such kinds of projects would last long enough to be completed.

What? Rockbank station-converter from 1/2 platform to 2 platforms. Cobble bank complete new station- there was nothing. New parking, crossings removed. Duel track all the way to Melton. Full Velocity service. This is nonsense.

Yeah but how many trains per hour can you possibly run in the future with Vline? They can't do much more at Southern Cross with increasing frequency.

Are you prepared to pay more tax to have this? There's only a certain amount of money to go around. If you chose to live in Melton you would have known about service frequency. Most people live far away from the station and would need a car anyway. This is what happens when you allow unconstrained immigration. A million people within two years, dilutes everybody's quality of life, not just those that live in Melton
