I have seen Plant on his last three tours. His performances and voice are still magical. He is such a natural performer....he adapts his vocals beautifully to his ability. And it's just perfection. He's a Golden God....forever.
I met him randomly on the street at night and had a 15 minute conversation with him. He was coming from dinner at a restaurant and was wine tipsy. He spoke so much about John, and even sang for me in the street!

I saw Robert Plant at a 600-seat venue in Brooklyn NY at the end of Lullaby and the Ceasless Roar tour. It was fabulous. I will "Fan-Girl" for this man for life!
I have such massive respect and admiration for Robert Plant. It's absolutely incredible how he has evolved through the decades. In his 20s, he was the original Golden God of Rock after whom so many rock singers have fashioned themselves. Now, in his mid-70s, he's the elder statesman of folk and bluegrass. The man carries himself with such poise, magic, and gravitas, that I want to call him Gandalf.
I watched the video last night funnily. People forget the man is 75 years old, and he still has an amazing voice. Led Zeppelin is my favourite band of all time, and this rendition doesn't detract from how he used to sing it, and the band always tweaked the songs live any way. I think he is a legend, and always will be. Much as your good self, Mr Hawkins.
Thank you for covering this. I saw Plant perform last year and was truly staggered. He still possesses such class and talent. He's aged like a fine wine and I feel so lucky to have brought my 9 year old son to the show to witness a legend work his magic.
I saw Plant with Alison K last summer… they sounded great and he sang five Zep songs… it was incredible. My wife and I wept a little because we never imagined we would hear him sing Zeppelin live… and sounding so good. He is a treasure
Still to this day I remember the first time I heard Ten Years Gone. I was 8 years old and I woke up at like 8am and my mom (miss you mom❤️) was still up partying with some friends and that song came on. It stopped me on the stairs when I heard the guitar intro riff, with the drop D ( I had no idea what that meant then) and then when Robert sang, “Then, as it was, then again it will be”, it was like time stood still. I sat down on the stairs and listened to the whole song and from that point forward music meant something totally brand new to me. It changed me. That’s who Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Bonham and John Paul Jones are to me. Great video. Thank you.❤
Watching this performance, a single fat, wet tear ran down my cheek. So many years have passed since I was a LZ obsessive, studying for my O Levels in Sussex in '79. Robert Plant has continued to create, evolve and explore. Not stuck in a time warp (unlike many), he continues to be curious, open and an utter legend. Still makes my pulse quicken a bit, too. Thanks, Justin, for this!! Big hugs from Italy x

I just saw Robert Plant live in Brighton this week with his current "Saving Grace" outfit and my gosh they were amazing. Every one of them outstanding musicians and Robert Plant was mesmerising as well as hitting every note under the sun. They have released no public material, asked the audience to keep phones away and no photos and filming and sold no merchandise at all. Robert has been singing for ages and to think all these years later the man can still for the most part hit all the notes is stunning. Great stuff and always great to hear Robert singing, he is a true legend and timeless.
Probably the most distinctive voice in musical history. TBH I can't always make out what he's singing on the Zep material but it doesn't matter, his voice is an instrument. He is still fashioning it through different and interesting genres. And he always sings with emotion and gives it his best. I've never seen or heard him just go through the motions. That’s a big statement saying in musical history. I’d say there are a good number of people that still sound just as distinctive as they did at their peak/prime. Robert Plant, constantly changing and chasing new things while always looking back with respect. Utterly joyful. Seeing him in a couple of weeks, expecting the unexpected.
Robert Plant continued to make beautiful music. Led Zeppelin will always remain as ALL the great rock gods should. I will never forget what they gave to this world of ours.
We're so spoiled from the luxury of being able to listen to it a million times. Range, dynamics, emotion, pitch, intonation ...the tight jeans, flowing hair, the rockstar aura before it was a thing.....he was the original, and will always be unmatched in my book.
I love Percy, saw him perform with Saving Grace last year and then bumped into him the next day. Absolute legend, never gonna see Zeppelin but I’ll always cherish meeting him.
I’ve seen Robert Plant perform live many times. There is just something different about him as a performer. He has this unbelievable presence onstage that I’ve never seen anyone else match. The word legend is thrown around all too easily nowadays but for him, it is totally and completely accurate. My all time musical hero and all round amazing man
Robert is one of the all time greatest ❤️ he delivers otherworldly rock/ falsetto and soulful ballad vocals in those beguiling black country tones like no other ❤ What a joy to see this clip, and to hear one of my favourite musician/ performers review another so dear to our hearts 🙏💐
Robert Plant is an iconic rock singer! This song made me fall in love with rock, as a child during the 70’s. It was one of these songs that had me going emotional.
I don't think Robert Plant is taken for granted, more that he moved on musically and most of the Zeppelin fans didn't line up with the direction he took. I don't think it can be overstated how special Zeppelin is to everyone in rock! Plant obviously had a truly tragic departure from rock and seemed to find himself emotionally in a more folk world afterwards and that's great.
I’ve loved LZ and RP for more than 50 years. I listen to this and the years fall away. I watched this clip the other day and it was very emotional. RP is an absolute legend.
@@smith9808 plant wasn’t even page’s first choice of a singer. There were many better singers. What the layman doesn’t understand is it’s the combination of a great band and great songs that make plant sound better than he really was. If he was such a great singer or the “best rock singer” he would of been huge before and after zeppelin, which he wasn’t.
Yes, taken for Planted is true. Such an iconic part of everyone's growing up, listening to that song, album and rest of Led Zepp, astonishing that he can still do that. You had that look on your face, like a million memories just flooded back in and you were re-living them in the present time. That was awesome, thanks for sharing x
I certainly can understand he is not in the same space, musically or otherwise, that he was in his 20s, now fifty years hence. Just thankful that he chose to revisit this gem for such a worthy cause.
Thank you for this! Recently found Robert Plant’s Podcast and I am a bit obsessed with it because-his voice of course! But also hearing about where he was physically, mentally and creatively is fascinating to me. Just brilliant all the way round.
Ooh... Robert is another singer on my top five list of male singers I have enjoyed most in my lifetime. He didn't always sing perfectly in his best years either, but he WAS always perfect. This makes me teary-eyed.
When CDs first came out, I got Led Zeppelin 4 on that format. Played Stairway over and over again... such a special song and Robert is a legend. Seen him live a few times and every time was epic!
In 2012 when Led Zeppelin were honored by the Kennedy Center in the US -- as high as honors get for artists -- the show closed with a massive performance of this. The band is in the near balcony, and onstage Ann Wilson sang the living daylights out of it. By the time a huge chorus in bowler hats was singing the closing verse, Page was grooving and in awe, JPJ had that "ah yesssssss" look on his face, and Plant was clearly crying and trying to hold it together. I read just a year or two ago that he felt this singular performance freed him from the song. That instead of it being an albatross, it was as though the universe took it in and he was just a long-ago conduit. Who can imagine what that was like for him, but I found it profound -- both how it weighed on him and how he was able to let it go.
Wow….that’s pretty profound. Few realize what a burden that song became for him. Like being a poet for decades but all, people wanted you to read was one you wrote in your youth….like the rest of your creations didn’t matter.
Justin, i was at one of LZ's last performances in America as it turned out. MSG, June 8, 77. I was 17 and had great seats,.rear orchestra/floor. He did begin Stairway with "this is a song of hope", shich TBH was a bit confusing then. It was their finale before coming back for "whole lotta love" and "rock and roll". Plants vocals were incredible and Page on those solos! As i left there were several wankers complaining that it wasnt like the songs on the album! I shook my head in disbelief. I am blessed to have seen them before both tragedies hit them in 77 and 80. For a time when it was still illegal, the Garden was sure ablaze. So much smoke in the air you couldn't help getting high that night. Cheers!
Your chanel poped up in my feed and I thought that you looked familiar. I was hospitilaized after a acidet for a long time with lots of pain and long sleepless nights. I had a portable cd-player with headphones and it saved my life. Two cd s was going on repeat, maidens latest, dance of death and the darknes, permission to land.they saved me in my darkest hour. Thank You Justin. ❤
Thank you for featuring this performance, Justin. This was totally amazing and so touching. Robert is a beautiful soul. 🙏 For me, although I absolutely adore Stairway, my favourite track of his for many personal reasons is 29 Palms. I have said for so many years Robert Plant has been under appreciate and taken for granted by so many, so thank you for drawing peoples attention to him again.
I had no idea this happened! Thanks for bringing us this legendary story! He was clearly emotional doing the song before he even got started. Just beautiful. I would love to hear him sing more of the songs he said he’d never ever sing again (especially with certain LZ bandmates). It’s timeless, beautiful rock music, and the fans would love it more than anything.
Bob's a lovely singer, and as the old vocal folds toughen with just nature and time things might get a bit papery - thin yet you as the listener have to hang on every note because it's an event. It's the heart of this guy.
Saw Robert Plant last night with Saving Grace. Although he didn't sing this, it was incredible. 75 and still got the voice. Suzi Dian and the rest of the band were epic too.
Lucky. He hasn’t t toured Saving Grace in the States since he had to cancel his 2020 tour…for which I had tickets. Allison Krauss two years in a row (I saw that show), but not Saving Grace. Wish he would come back with that show that was cancelled…..or work again with SSS…inLOVED the work he did with those guys….Justin Adams et al.
when Robert took that last note i noticed how guitarist broke in tears on the background and i'm so genuinely jealous of him in a good way. What a unique moment and such a huge honor to hear the legend live
The humanity of his vocals (because the majesty of his youthful vocals is no longer possible) is what makes this version so special. Is there anyone else who was reminded of the “Stairway” version done by Ann and Nancy Wilson (with Jason Bonham on drums) at the Kennedy Center Honors?
Mr Plant is a lovely man. Signed with A&M in 1987 with GUN and he was at the bar in the Hammersmith Palais where I couldn't get served, and he called the bar staff for me then helped me take our drinks over to the table and took the time to ask about the band and find out what type of stuff we liked, our names etc before he had to, in his own words with raised eyebrows and eyes rolling, "go and mingle". Lovely man.
Once a great vocalist and he undeniably was, then always a great vocalist as long as the voice holds. I have had the great pleasure of seeing Mr Plant both in his heyday and more recently and the guy is simply phenomenal. He can still impart so much feeling in his vocals that you would have to be dead not to be moved to some extent.
I saw Robert Plant solo & Zeppelin (he performed 2 times) reunion 40th yr. anniversary ar MSG .from 5 row to Front Row... Then MET Robert Plant & John Paul Jones took photos & heard them reminiscence i thought this. CANT BE REAL..... even now , wow & those pictures are gold to me
The album "Mighty ReArranger" - Robert Plant and the Strange Sensation. This album is a gem. I have heard these songs live and I was suspended in a cloud for 1 year because the concert was magical, in Spain, summer of 2007, on the Mediterranean Coast, MAGICAL....., UNFORGETTABLE, I am not exaggerating
I saw Plant live a couple of years ago. And it was so bloody brilliant and heartfelt. I'm not all keen on how they the guitarist is mucking up Black Dog, but it didn't matter that much because that night Pland did probably the most soulful version of Rain Song I've ever heard. He truly is a legend of our generation, and without a doubt he will always belong on top with Mercury, Marriot, Gillan, Dio, And Cocker. (I know that sounds like a wide spread of singers, but they were all bloody brilliant).
Gold!! I'm just content to hear Plant talk like in their first movie where he's backstage. He's always been a fascinating interviewee . Of course now Justin has stepped up and captivated us by his oratorical skill.
Saw Robert play 10 years ago and he is criminally underrated as a vocalist like you said Justin. So glad he is still performing. One of the greatest to do it
From london moved to Israel and came back to see Zep at Knebworth 1979 . The graetest concert i have ever been to and been to them all. I still live in Israel.
8:52 As a fellow musician, I know exactly what you mean. That resolution is what takes it from standard blues noodling to a transcendent melody, and it’s what inspired me (and countless others) to pick up the electric guitar in the first place.
My skin almost hurts from all the goosebumps...first I hear and see the new Beatles song and the mini documentary about the song and now Robert Plant sings Stairway To Heaven...And next week I'm going to the concert of The Darkness in Hamburg...I'm not cryin', you're cryin'...
So cool to read through the comments of folks that have seen Robert in the last few years with Strange Sensations, Alison or Saving Grace. He still obviously loves to perform and is on my "can't miss" list whenever he's close to my area. ✌️
My greatest concert experience in 37 years of attending concerts (started when I was 9), was being in second row a few years ago when Robert Plant last played Vancouver and he sang The Rain Song (my fave song of all time). It was immaculate and very much like the original version. It was a just pure and perfect moment.

I love Percy, saw him perform with Saving Grace last year and then bumped into him the next day. Absolute legend, never gonna see Zeppelin but I’ll always cherish meeting him.
May we never lose the crafting of music. It's the Rolls Royce of songwriting.
Love led zeppelin, Robert was my first ever concert in 2017 when I was 14
I’ve seen Robert Plant perform live many times.
He is such a legend all of Zep are. What a force they were blowing minds across America.
Justin Hawkins, I watch you because of your refreshing brand of "realistic optimism".
Props for staying in the original key! Nobody in his age range does that. Awesome
I’ve loved LZ and RP for more than 50 years. I listen to this and the years fall away. I watched this clip the other day and it was very emotional. RP is an absolute legend.
Doesn't matter how many times I hear this, still gives me chills after all these years.
That was awesome! Was lucky enough to see Zeppelin at the Ahmet Ertugan tribute gig in 2007, presumably the last time he performed this.
Saw Robert with Allison Krause this summer. He sang beautifully and still a great showman…he has such a great sense of humor :)
I think Plant has the greatest rock voice of that era. It wasn't too heavy, very accessible.
It helps when you have one of the greatest bands and songwriters . There were certainly better singers than plant. But it was the combination .
@@Gcssdvnkloiutescjimmy page has a lousy voice but ace on the guitar
@@GcssdvnkloiutescI have never heard page sing tbh, but I agree there must be better singers.
@@Gcssdvnkloiutescno way we’re there better singers than Plant. Guy had the greatest rock voice of all time in 1971.
It was once said “no one does Led Zep better than Heart!” haha
He’s full of shit, he just doesn’t want to sing it for Zep fans!
Plant said he was crying for John Bonham because Jason Bonham was playing drums. The performance caused the mourning for his friend.
Wow….that’s pretty profound. Few realize what a burden that song became for him. Like being a poet for decades but all, people wanted you to read was one you wrote in your youth….like the rest of your creations didn’t matter.
I'm a massive Zep fan, but that performance with choirs and everything is a very good illustration of why punk had to happen.
The Legend. There is none greater. Talent and class all the way down.
Well said Justin, Robert has been taken for granted, spot on.
Cheers!
A masterpiece...timeless
The memories this song evokes in me are cherished beyond explanation.
Me too there all good it’s a magical song for sure
Your chanel poped up in my feed and I thought that you looked familiar. I was hospitilaized after a acidet for a long time with lots of pain and long sleepless nights. I had a portable cd-player with headphones and it saved my life. Two cd s was going on repeat, maidens latest, dance of death and the darknes, permission to land.they saved me in my darkest hour. Thank You Justin. ❤
with you on the jomo, yet no regrets for seeing page and plant live 20yrs ago, even well after their prime. nothing can diminish that oeuvre.
The man and the band are ABSOLUTE LEGENDS. There is no denial of that. A band that changed music in the best ways.
I never took his voice for granted. He was a Rock God!
His voice age so well thinking of other singers from the same time. He still got that amazing voice going.
My all time fav guy. Love him to the moon and back
I had no idea this happened!
So much is said about his voice, his performances. Can we take a moment to admire his lyrical brilliance?
His lyrics are on the level of an intelligent 12th grader that has read some literature (especially Tolkien and byron)
He's a shining golden god! What an absolute hero!
Great take by Robert. As a bassist, it's nice to see Guy Pratt on bass also. Rock on!
That song touches every part of me it’s so satisfying.
when Robert took that last note i noticed how guitarist broke in tears on the background and i'm so genuinely jealous of him in a good way. What a unique moment and such a huge honor to hear the legend live
What a privilege to have been there. Love his work.
10:15 The Les Paul guitarist completely crushed by the gravity of the moment that he is honoured to be part of!
Robert Plant is easily my favorite musician ever. His post-Zeppelin career is mostly spectacular.
Yes. Awesome performance. RP was in the audience.
Lovely man.
Greetings from Germany. Thanks for spreading some love in this different times. ❤
Takes amazing confidence, at his stage in life, to perform this song.
Seeing the guitarist cry in the background make me tear up man
Gold!! I'm just content to hear Plant talk like in their first movie where he's backstage.
He's always been a fascinating interviewee . Of course now Justin has stepped up and captivated us by his oratorical skill.
I saw him a couple of years ago and he's still an amazing performer and always gets the best band together
Plant's neighbors: This wasn't the 1st time in 16 years
👀
@@JustinHawkinsRidesAgain 🤣It sounded like he must've practiced at least a couple times!
⁵⁵th street
Lmao. Pictures him wailing in the shower. 😂❤
Did in my house 2005…. Ok that’s more than 16
Saw Robert play 10 years ago and he is criminally underrated as a vocalist like you said Justin. So glad he is still performing. One of the greatest to do it
I don't think he's underrated at all 🤔
The smile and nod to Plant from the singer on the left as the song ends!
Thanks Justin.. that was great!🎶♥️🎶
From london moved to Israel and came back to see Zep at Knebworth 1979 .
Epic vocals without a backing track, this is true live music.
Whole heartily agree with your comments. True legend.
Thanks
Thank you!!
I think he sounds great! Like his pitch is really good, and it feels and sounds natural
My greatest concert experience in 37 years of attending concerts (started when I was 9), was being in second row a few years ago when Robert Plant last played Vancouver and he sang The Rain Song (my fave song of all time). It was immaculate and very much like the original version. It was a just pure and perfect moment.
