I picked up this 1977 Pontiac Grand Prix for $1500, can we build a working class cruiser for less than $2500? Complete build?!

Mmmm..... mystery gifts....😮
You know Dalton I always thought it was because the part of the hose that the bolt goes through is shaped like the sound ring inside of A banjo
Dump some used motor oil in the trunk to soak up some of that rust.
Excellent video, cool car, hilarious, and informative.
Dalton saving old Pontiacs: He's on a mission from God.
I do love them
Not sure that's saving so much as building a FRANKENPONTI😂😂
Frankenponti? Look at Holey Goat, good example! However, you are right, I have to agree, lol!@@DannebergAcres
He gotta fix the cigarette lighter first
I stand corrected--Dammit, I think you're right!@@krakinnuts876
I must admit, I am impressed at how Dalton didnt even flinch when the carb spit out a 6 foot fireball! Hes a seasoned veteran to be sure!
I came to make exactly that comment.
cold bloded modafuca
as a kid I had to help my dad nurse a motorhome to the mechanic and the fireballs going past my ear traumatized me for years ;-)
Hell that’s just part of the normal “adjustment” stage working on carbs, adjustment meaning tap & beat on the thing hoping to not have to tear it apart praying the rebuild kit really has all the bits you need which has become a real issue
He's a married man, so not the first time he had to deal with something angry, spitting fire! 😉🤣
Thanks Dalton, keeping the car side of UA-cam real! Best part of the week is getting a pbg video notification
Thanks!
One of the main reasons I love your content. Your personality is authentic, your not pushing to be somebody else because your on video. Keeping things the way the average Joe does it is awesome. Great low budget build.
Yeah kind of a love it or leave it kinda deal but I'm glad you dig it 😂
"Just regular guys getting it done and having fun" pure gold 😊
Never change, Dalton. You’re one of the few car UA-camrs I can still identify with (working in an old garage with basic tools). Thank you.
same goes for Kevin and Mook on Junkyard Digs
@@StoffesGaragethe only thing Kevin has that is outside of normal reach is the bendpak stuff.
Tang tools is a good tool supplier and I put them on par with 1980s craftsman
Amen
As he gets bigger it’ll probably change like all the others have done. Already a new shop in works has been mentioned. New shop, more sponsored parts and it could be like the rest. I hope not. I don’t blame the UA-camrs for doing it. I would to given the chance. It’s just not what I wanna watch
Truth here. Old school work. Old school philosophy. Love it. So many the millions of sub guys went so far away from this. Or they become yet another Lamborghini channel.
JD’s experience becoming very evident. Every boy should have a bonding activity with their father. Whether it’s cars, sports, music, or whatever. Good stuff sir!
" the less effort you put into it,the less you're going to care" should be a pbg t shirt! Keep up the good work guys!
That is my new mantra
I would definitely buy that shirt!!😂😂
When you said that a gp
In fine shape is worth less than 10 grand I think is wrong Dalton.
Especially a 76 with a
Perfect undercarriage,
400 4 barrel, and turbo
400. I saw one
For 22,000.
@@donpalke4519 Did it sell though?
Oops I accidentally did the opposite of that. Now I dont want to drive it anymore.
I would drive that everyday and be proud. 73’ Grand Prix is my favorite but this is right there.
The rant about the cycle of the good jacket becoming the shop jacket due to wilfull negligence...... I have never felt more seen. 😂 Keep it up man. You channel is the best out there!
I'm just now at this point in life getting to where I almost don't make that mistake anymore, that may be because I own almost no nice clothes, but that's beyond the point 😂
Well said . I have probably something like 10/11 jackets that apart from one are now ALL varying degrees of shitty / ruined and I never like to throw anything away if it’s even barely useable so they all stick around
TBH I don't have a single nice article of clothing because they all became victim to the shop at least once or twice...
Same goes for every hat I’ve ever bought lol
Dalton truly represents us folk in working class middle America 🇺🇸 💪
Thanks For all the hard work brother.
Thanks man!
Dalton is officially the car lot bodywork king😂. Nice job bringing that thing back from the dead.
From where this car started, what a transformation…this channel gives me confidence to “have a go’! It’s ok to not get it perfect, if it’s your rig then it doesn’t matter just enjoy driving it
Dalton @ 17:02 "Get it running, drive it and have fun with it". Wise words indeed.
Best line of the video? “When losers are sitting around waiting for perfection to occur………..etc.”. Keep that good stuff coming!!!
"it's only some duct tape away" & "yanked my neck just the right way". Jess, killin me smalls!
Love the 70s land yachts. Thanks for saving another one for the future generations to see. Also for showing many there's nothing to it but to do it. Keep on rocking man.
Jd is awesome, you gotta be proud!
I saved the engine from an old GP, it just happened to be a 455 X block! When I opened it up, the cam lobes were completely flat because the engine probably never had an oil change, when I pulled the intake and valve covers, the heads were packed solid with parrifin, this tells me that pennzoil or quaker state oil was used, likely added but never changed or at least extremely extended oil changes. When I pulled the intake, same story, c the lifter valley was completely packed full of wax all the way to the bottom of the intake leaving a perfect mold of the bottom of the intake in wax!
So, I cleaned it, installed a new ( secret cam) and lifters, new timing set ( double roller of course) all new gaskets and seals including valve stem, front and rear mains etc, built a performance quadrajet from an old ambulance, and viola! 500 easy hp!
I slapped it in my Ventura and proceeded to break the speed limit many many times over👍💯
What I love about Dalton is that he eliminates all the unnecessary components he doesn't need! I have 8 mismatched plugs to put in that is called working effectively & saving money!!
The only Real car guy on UA-cam. Love Dalton, Jess and JD!!
Always look forward to seeing JD in your episodes. I love seeing how he learns new things from you.
Love the low budget builds and low budget tech. I think it grows the car culture because it makes people less afraid to work on and have an affordable fun car or truck.
Great video. $1,500 for that Pontiac is a great deal. I just bought a 1991 Ford f150 with the inline 6 engine, in great running condition for only $800. I bought it from a title loan company.
Oh man that dashboard and hood up wash scene brought back some memories. Had a white and maroon 77 Gran Prix from 81 through mid 84 when I sold her for a 77 Trans Am ( yep Bandit Special).
Funny thing is on DVD or Bluray copies of Wierd Science if you pause during the scene where Anthony Michael Hall pulls up at the mall to pick up Kelley LeBrock over AMH's shoulder you see my white 77 Gran Prix parked behind him.
Dalton I like how in your videos you explain what things are for and what they do while your working on what your talking about unlike other people who stop and sit there and explain it and just drag the video on and on and on and on and it just makes the video boring you don’t drag things out
Agree he has a unique style! Some guys drag out what they're trying to do by talking about it for way too long
Totally agree.
One of my favorite episodes!! A guy getting it done! The last 5 minutes of the video had me cracking up! Keep up the great job!
The metallic tractor paint was key. We need more of that!
My father had a jack he would wear when doing such things, and patched it with Duck Tape. He wore it before my birth in 1970, and it was discarded after he past away in 2021. Great video on a budget build and you are the master of budget paint jobs. JD, you are a great young man to help your father the way you do. Proud of you young man.
Had to finish Kevins tow truck video first. on to yours now!
Mee too!
Same here, hat trick!
Yup just watched it too.
Kevin Never Paints, he is a Dingleberry. Dalton is cool. He paints. 😂😂😂😂
The panic seeing the lock nut key, ooo i know that pain. Im a commercial vehicle relocator and lets just say getting a flat tire north of the arctic circle staring at a lock nut at minus elevendy million degrees is less than fun.
water in the carb = steam cleaning the engine!! thats a nugget of knowledge!! 👍🏼👍🏼
Yup . And shops use to charge you for it .
This was a very fun video , well most of them are fun. You bought a Pontiac Grand Prix in terrible condition. Rusted out floor pans, trunk. Engine that was not running well at all, In need of brakes. Needing extensive body work, rust removal. New carpet . Cheep but good paint job. And you put it all in one video!! Who else does that! And you finely found a sponsor!!!!!! Great family involvement! I like the way that you alway's can get so much done in such of what seems a bare min small garage! And the genius of it all alway's is sooo COOOOL! I knew a really good mechanic in the Army in Germany. His name was John and he was just great at getting thing's done in the worst of conditions and or enviorments. Circa 1983. Well keep up the fun and great work! WARE SAFTY PROTECTIVE THING'S.... eye protection, good face dust mask's and gloves....A ounce of protection will keep you safe and not sorry.
Dalton you did great jop on the car but honestly what's really important you raised really good kids helping you with everything and they don't mind any work you tell them . Thanks for sharing your videos with us.
I am 73 and have had at least 1 carburated car since I was 14. I had never seen water trick. Jesse is true artist. Just look at her templates
My old man used to do that all the time.. I’ve done it a few times myself but not for a lot of years… The last time I used it there was hardly an internet to speak of and there certainly wasn’t any UA-cam
I come from old Midwest farmer stock. Yeah the water trick is an old one. When you need to tune up the old tractor on a family farmer budget water is the cheapest.
@@nobodyspecial6436yeah wouldn’t do it on anything built after the 80’s. The computer will probably call the EPA ON you.
Well thanks bud! Just toss some tracing paper over the wheels and let your nail or something sharper trim out the parts ya need. :) easy peasy!
You're gonna have to change your name to pole barn marina because you got a gaggle of land yachts there sir 😂
Some might even say he has a veritable flotilla of land yachts.
Haha
I love these longer format pole barn garage self tapper university workshops....I am on pace to graduate to Daltons krylon engine rebuilding graduate school in no time!!
This and the Monte Carlo are great looking cars for this year. You have such great tips for budget fixes and tune-ups. I tell all my car buds to watch and subscribe
Great job on the GP, brother! Love that body style....Body work looks excellent too! Lots of fun with the fam! All A+++++
Thanks Lee! Wait'll you see this T bird I picked up, I think it needs a trip to Southern Texas one of these days
Heck yeah brother! Bring her on!!!@@PoleBarnGarage
No matter how old, rusted, busted, holy or completely tired something is, if your willing to put the blood, sweat, tears and few beers into it then its ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS.
Love it Dalton no matter what it's a treasure in itself just to spend time with people you love.
You had me from the start when you stated the premise of the build, Dalton - this is a life lesson for people who want to have fun with a car but don’t think they’ve got the funds! Winner, winner, pizza dinner!
Upol is great stuff.
If there's one thing us Brits know, it's how to bodge bodywork.
My dad used to build door bottoms with chicken wire and fibreglass filler.
Ford sierra anyone?
31:31 My thoughts at first was it was another voice besides Dalton voicing the commercial. So proper. Pretty hilarious now i think about it.
Like this Grand Prix build!! Funny commentary as well.
You are the best used car sales man I have ever seen, I can just see that Pontiac siting in a car loot with “runs great, good cruiser” righten on the windshield
3:25 did you see how big that fireball was at the time, or were you shielded by your cap? I love the lack of a reaction. 😂
Gotta love a Pontiac, i think they made better looking chevy counterpart almost every time. really cool motor colors too, jewels of motors
What I really like about your channel: You have a great sense of humor, while keeping it real. It is actually very instructional, and I know you're very skilled. It is inspiring me to just get something rough and make something fun with it. I gotta do it before long.
Very much enjoyed this, especially the drain plug bit, it being the only remnant of the floor.😆
Thanks for the great content
Shoutout to the bird that was flying around the whole explanation around 58:04 😂
That's Carl. He's basically immune to every disease now I'm pretty sure. And still high 😂😂
I thought it was risky in case it cr*pped on the new paint 😆
I'll be honest I used to watch VGG "you know who I'm talking about" religiously but that channel no longer does the things that made it great. Then i discovered Pole barn garage and Junk yard digs and they are the best automotive find and fix channels on you tube. Pole barn garage is my favorite because it's pure comedy gold and realistic. Did I mention it's wholesome family values! PBG IS AWESOME. Thanks for the great content and hard work!!
Don't know what you're talking about. Derek still does revivals all the time and says he always will. Just watched his latest video tonight with him and his sons working on an old John Deere M tractor in heavy snow around zero degrees just like he would've years ago. He's a top notch guy! Sure he's got more toys and nicer shops etc. now but he's still a great UA-camr
@@Truckman1980people just want to put others down to feel cool is all
NNKH has great content as well.
I like PBG and Junkyard Digs, subbed to both, but strong disagree on VGG. I'm glad the revivals have been toned down a bit as well; while I love watching those, it's nice to see something happen with those vehicles too! Rather than them being made to run once, then put out to pasture and never see them again. Derek has sooooo many rigs out in his field from revivals, I love it when he brings one in the shop and does something unique with it.
Personally, i like all 3 of them and will continue to support all of them as well
1:14:32 "This is just one duct tape away" hahahaha Awesome! :)
Hey brother. I watch you for you, Derek for Derek, Kevin for Kevin, and Mortske for Mortske.
Can we please not attack each other? How folks support their family should not be seen as a negative. Also, not sure why there's even beef in a community like this, but it's silly and should stop. You all have a right to be here, equally. Whatever it is between you guys, I hope you fix it. (and honestly, I doubt very highly "he" is a millionaire)
I agree! I pray for all to prosper. They all have their approach to bringing back the old metal. We car guys stick together and admire each other’s creativity. Thanks to you David for saying how we all feel. Snapper.
@@jeffsnapp3696 I say they all have a race. Demolition Derby style. Maybe have it be a benefit for veterans. Great way to have fun, create content, and grow together.
Good video, Erica! Looking forward to the reassembly of this saw. I enjoy finding old saws that won't run, and it's rewarding to me when they start back up. I usually end up giving them away to someone who can't afford a new saw. Keep em coming!
I had a ‘76 Grand Prix, gold like the one you did before and it was the best driving car I have ever owned. Love the style and it always ran great! Thanks for fixing these old cars up!
This old fella absolutely loves this channel. You keep me entertained so well. And I love Jesse and JD. KEEP doing what you do ❤
I 1:18:02 it dude!! But you really need to do the air cleaner lid flip!! Gives you at least 100 hp!! Lmao 😂😅😂😅
I have no idea what happened at the front of my post. Anyway, I loved the video and actually gave me some ideas for my truck!
This is one of the most relatable, everyday, common-folk automotive youtube channels out there. Keep up the good work!
The professional team at P.B.G are an inspiration to all of us trying to "restore" a classic car on a shoe string budget, the best tube car channel by far🤘
This woulda been perfect for That SEMA build Dalton.
Go tell them to let me in
Too nice for SEMA !
I was about to ask if you’d ever do a livestream from your shop.
Then, I remembered that you work on rusty junk. So, I referenced my own experience working on rusty junk, and came to the conclusion that the editing process is key to preserving the version of myself I want the world to see.
I’d imagine this is true with you, as well.
So true...
The things I say when trying to get leaf spring shackle bolts out are things that only God and the bugs in my rafters can hear
He does do livestreams here and there, but they are visible for channel members only.

This video magically transported me back to 1968, a time before wire welders and block sanders. A time when a boy with $50 and access to a decent hardware store could transform any motor vehicle into a worthy chariot for a prom date. Bondo saved more tri-5 Chevys than any restoration shop; prove me wrong! Too bad Earle Schibe is not around to give it that high gloss finishing touch. Although a poor boy like me had to settle for Rustoleum applied with a brush or roller because mom would not let me near her Electrolux vacuum cleaner.
Dalton self tappers fixes everything thank you!
J.D. and Dalton's Steam Cleaning Service rides again! Glad to see you get some sponsorship, well deserved 👍 This was tons of laughs and chuckles again. Thanks 👍
Silver metallic is one of the hardest colors to spray and make look decent, especially on a car with that large of panels. Good job Dalton that came out pretty dang good for what it is.
“ tune ups” and “ rebuilds” in a spray can. I love this channel ❤
One of my favorite channels , true down to earth real car stuff.
Agreed
Dalton when I see JD working by himself on the car, I know it’s going to be done right. Jess with her humor and help adds so much to the channel. With all that said, adding your humorous wisdom makes your channel one of the best on UTube. I just loved this Pontiac build out with all the body and paint work involved. It’s obvious you’re the Michael Angelo of body work and you give him a run for the money with your painting skills.
You,..my man...do things exactly like the rest of us! thank you for being real. these cars need people like us. Thank you for keepin real automobiles alive and on the road. Would enjoy drinkin a beer with you.
You can't beat a Pontiac. I grew up with them, and this one brings back some good memories. You did a great job on that, and it's a decent-looking car you don't have to worry about a scratch. getting on it. Love to see you do more with this one, she does look good, if you're not fussy, and I am not.
Another winner. I love that color. I hope we see more of it.
She turned out not too shabby. I’d drive it! Might be a good project for Jess to fix up a dash cover and seat covers for it, glue in some new material to the head liner, she’s mint. Next in part two!
I love Pole Barn Garage. You learn so much yet learn so little at the same time. Never change sir.
One of my favorite episodes. Incredible budget build.
So glad to see someone else using clearance spray paint that way. I got a battery charger that was in a flooded basement and the rusted out base is now Alis Chalmers Orange because that's the Krylon I found at Ollies for $1.99 five years ago and had in the garage.
JD’s the real deal ..just make sure he’s got his Tetanus up to date !! 😂😂
I like it! Not many of these left around.
1:16:46 Us poors have figured it out, my first car was a 2004 GrandAm & my dad had a Montana around the same time, when I drove mine I was completely car illiterate and ran that thing ragged and it didn't give out. Been preaching the good word about GM V6s ever since (also had a buick lesabre at one point with the Series II 3800). Now running a 3mz Solara (As you can tell my bag is early 2000s cars & notoriously reliable NA V6s) which isn't the most fun car, but is a relatively reliable cruiser convertible for the price and beats out the Sebring and G6 in the same cheap old people 2000s car segment. Hope to someday own some kinda 2000s roadster like a Solstice or MR2 though I do love the styling on those 2000s trans ams too lol. Though this channel definitely makes me want to mess around with carburetors and buy up every ratty project on Marketplace lmao
Awesome body work Dalton!!
This GP looks fantastic!!!
Great job!!!!
This was one of my favorite PBG vids. 👌
I absolutely love these kind of builds, nothing crazy, very little money spent, and all things a normal guy could do. I built my old pickup in my driveway, and i guarantee i have more fun wrenching on and driving it every summer than any guy with a pristine show quality corvette ever does 😎
Dam man looks dam nice good job Dalton u killed it I like these shows your just a average guy making content love it
Thank you Dalton for the hard work you put into everything. I watch your videos all the time
"Thanks to the wonders of violence, I got that out."
As a former grunt, current telephone cable splicer, and lifelong all-around dirtbag who happens to have an English Writing degree (well, 7/8ths of one anyway), I appreciate your well thought out/wiseassed narration, Dalton. Keeps me watching.
Those big cars were awesome
I LOVE this comedy show!!!!😂😂❤❤ And you did a GReAT job putting lipstick on that PON! 👏
8:00
Dalton: "alright time for the foot test"
Jd: "dad"😮💨
You guys are great 😂
I give the brake pedal a swift hard kick to push the P valve back over. (Bleeders closed) Works like a charm. I like your little pet shop bird you’ve got flying around at about 58:00 in. Does it have a name?
Thanks for the early video!
You bet! This one came in right under the wire, so not too early
The sound of pure terror when Dolton found the locking lug nut 😂😂 priceless
"lets go steal some stop signs'' i felt that one. 😂
Damn, that thing looks really good considering the minimal investment put into it. Nice work!
I just have a quick tip for removing surface rust without leaving scratches or scuff marks, use some baking soda. Make a paste with it and you can remove the rust with just a paper towel. Baking soda will also remove tarnish, I use it to clean my silver and it works great.
Almost forgot to put new brake drums on it 😂
you sir are the turd polishing king taking turd polishing to a superior level
Babe wake up, Dalton just uploaded a video
I gotta say that colour really suits the car, it looks awesome. Keep up the excellent work!!
Dalton is one of the rare guys on this platform who is very down to earth. Love the channel man ❤
Oh yes.... GM Scrap metal, only the best floorboards.. or those coin operated wash machine shells.. bravo👌👌👌 by the way, I love this episode, learned alot about extreme body repair👍
My first car was a 79 Trans Am back in 1985. I’ll always have a place in my heart for that car. I’m 55 now, but I’ll have another one before I kick the bucket. Thanks for the Pontiac love, Dalton.
