The Seagate high failure was due to specific drive that was distributed through system integrators because of the price. They’re good for the most part and their pro class hdd are actually very good in size and performance wise.
I think anyone who is into pcs and building them is a constant window shopper. I know I stay on newegg and amazon and even ebay just to see sales that are going on and have 0 intention on buying anything. It's fun to me to see what prices are on hardware and you see some pretty hilariously priced stuff on ebay. fx systems with 8950s for 1000 lmao people are crazy.
Hey Kyle, I’m a huge fan of your channel. When I first got into technology and computers specifically, you and Linus were my go to channels. I’ve always wanted to get into PC building and the like. I’m currently a senior in high school (I plan to go to college to become a special needs teacher). I do a tad bit of photo editing and am a console gamer atm. I currently only have my high school loner computer, which is a 2013 MacBook air. As you can imagine, running photoshop is an absolute struggle on there, and you can just throw any pc gaming on there out the window. I’ve been saving money for a while now (I’m a busboy at a restaurant). I want to build my own system, but my parents won’t allow me to. They’re quite old fashioned and for some reason think pc building is only possible for people who work at tech companies and the like. I was wondering if I could give you my money to have you part out and build a computer for me and my family? We actually have a desktop, but you’d most likely laugh at the specs (bought in 2001 and can’t even open internet explorer). I want to get a desktop that my parents can use for their day to day work and that I can use for homework, light photo editing, and gaming. I have a budget of $650. Please reach out to me if you’re interested. Thank you, Aaron
Given the horrible choices he's made in this video, I would not trust Kyle with my budget build. He can only make high-er end builds which are easier to pick.
@@Diavolo222 Show us what you can do with that money. I'm pretty sure it will be worse. there is no way anyone can build a much better gaming PC with just $550. personally I would add another 100 bucks and get a faster CPU and bigger SSD but that would negate the whole purpose of the video which is building the best gaming PC under $550.
@@varshoee It is called going used. Craiglist, offerup, ebay and alot of other websites have used prices which would fit this budget and have better price by performance value.
I use Helium SEAGATE enterprise SAS drives in my NAS server and have ZERO problems with my drives over several years. On the other hand they replaced my WD RED drives which ran fine but after removal I found they had SMART errors. WD Blue drive failures turned me against them. That's my experience, yours may vary.
I would because I think some of those products are rather sketchy in quality so put it in practice and actually buy, order, and build it and report any and all problems.
have you seen the sizes on newer games? 150gb for rdr2 175gb for CoD. even if you dont like those games, that shows how big new games are going to be. 500gb isnt enough
Just not those Kingston Hyper X SSDs with the 75 LED lights you can set to purple if you want. Possibly the worst choice for that drive. You will definitely overheat before even booting into Windows.
7:45 I just kept thinking about how I own more hardware tools than anything related to computers and I’m telling myself “just use your dremel and cut some notches into the side of the case, you can stop by the store and get your own mesh and rivet it in if you really wanted to...” I’d probably get the $23 case and add slots for ventilation where I needed it tbh
I would have probably saved on the gpu getting something like an rx590 and getting a ryzen 5 1600 witch is currently on Amazon for 99 USD, because I see no point getting 1660 super if you are going to get heavily bottleneck in AAA games and performance might even be worst than the Rx 590 due to the bottleneck. Also you might be able to stream lighter games witch is basically imposible with a 4c 4t CPU. Now in terms of the storage, I would have personally picked a 500gb SSD, witch you can currently find for 50 USD, and if you need more storage down the line you could just add a 1tb HDD, or expand your budget a little and get the 1tb hhd straight away. Now with the rx590 a ryzen 5 1600 and a 500gb SSD using the same components as Kyle the total would be 545 USD, and I personally think is a more balanced build
hey man I'm rocking an evolv X haha, i mean it looks nice and I feel good looking at it so it's good enough for me. Besides it's not COMPLETELY choking my parts to death...
I'd go with 1660 at that price range and use the $20 bucks to get a case i can look at, say the CM Q300L with 500gb ssd. (team L5 Lite) or an (Island 480) all in that budget.
At 11:42 you looked at the wifi model when you compared it to Amazon, if you scrolled down a bit you would see that the motherboard was 70 dollars on Amazon.
7:03 For like $5 more you could have gotten the 3rd case on the second row. It's looks much nicer than the one you picked and with a $550 budget, I feel like the case was a poor choice.
When its called a "BUDGET" it doesn't meen the person can spend $5+ more on their build. That's like telling a person that has $550 in there hand to just spend $5 more on a better GPU. Does a $5 more expensive case give you $5 more performance for the build? Probably not so there is no point in spending more on a case if you are on a budget just to get a nicer case.
@@XInfinity2024 XInfinity2013 Ok I get your point but the thing is what kind of performance gain are you going to get for $5, in most cases none whatsoever. There was a mother board on Amazon in this video that was cheaper than Newegg 11:53 (probably can use that saved money towards a better case for this budget price point.) and for $5 more, the case you get is better looking. I get that looks aren't the point of a budget build and everyone is different but for $5 more that case isn't bad.
I got myself a 1tb seagate barracuda for 30 bucks, brand new off of eBay. Hes using Amazon and new egg for reference but on many other sites it. Is around 30 bucks
The rx 470 is a much better deal for the gpu than a 1660 and it’s less than a 3rd of the price on most sites. It’s commonly found for under 110 bucks. You could use either a single 1660 or dual, mabey even tripple rx 470 in crossfire if your willing to get the ram that’s just the pcb and have a little less storage. It’s a wayyy better value.
I purchased that first case when building a friends christmas present, their SSD sits in the optical drive bay because there just isn't room for 2 storage drives and the graphics card. This is about what I spent on my cousin's PC, but I bit a couple bullets you didn't got a nicer board, went with an NVME 3.0x4 SSD and a 2tb hard drive, an aftermarket cooler (freezer 34), a ryzen 5 1600, higher wattage corsair modular power supply, and a bit of a nicer case, all of this of course came at the cost of the GPU which ended up being an RX 580. I wasn't looking at optimal price to gaming performance even in a build this tight but at upgrade path, 16gb of RAM is great and he shouldn't need to upgrade in the near future, same with the 1600, I've found 2tb of storage to be enough for me who uses my PC constantly while 1tb would leave me a bit shy of what I currently have installed, and the 550w PSU should leave him enough room to upgrade the GPU to basically anything north of the RX 580 except maybe a vega 64, but 1080(Ti), 1070, vega 56, rx 5700(XT) RTX 20XX(super or Ti) should all fit fine with that PSU, I know the kid isn't gonna upgrade to a 2080 ti, but a vega 56/1070/1660 would not be out of the question, maybe even a 1080.
I will say, if you live near a Microcenter in the states, PLEASE look up their prices, especially for MOBO + CPU combo deals, as well as their inland-branded SSDs. 120gb Inland SSDs are currently $16 in store, and they have an endurance rating of 70tbw vs the Kingston A400's 40tbw, plus a 3 year warranty. I just swapped to two 120s as my FreeNAS boot drives, and I've purchased three or four more for budget desktop/laptop upgrades.

I would recommend using White Label drives that are sold on Amazon. you can get 3tb for around $50ish These drives are relabeled namebrands such as Western Digital, Hitachi, etc. I use them in all of my builds.
Forgot to add in shipping costs a lot of those items were an extra $3.99 to I believe it was $6.99 on the case. Great way to look at building a new rig budget or even mid/high tier to get best prices. Just make sure to check the Shipping cost on items...
@@justingallant1593 Should be fine. 570 is a 150w card, that locked i5 CPU is well under 100 watts, and those two parts are the bulk of power draw. @@MoahGentle single level cell. versus MLC(multi level cell ie 2 bits per cell), TLC(Triple ie 3 bits) and QLC(quad or 4 bits). SLC tech is older but has a much higher number of write cycles before the nand flash runs out. More bits per cell means fewer write cycles. An example of how bad it's gotten is my 2TB Intel 660p. It uses QLC nand and has a write endurance of 400 TB(so around 200 full drive writes). Older SSDs with simpler design(TLC,MLC,SLC) may have thousands or even tens of thousands of write cycles. The chances of me actually wearing out my drive before buying a newer, higher capacity, relatively cheaper drive is remote given my use case(and the way most people will use the drive). In my case, most of my game libraries will be stored on a few higher capacity HDDs but larger ones that can benefit from higher access speeds due in large part to bigger file sizes(say 100GB+) will be swapped into and out of the SSD as needed. Of course Windows 10 should be on the SSD as well, in addition to any frequently used programs like web browsers.

Ryan Delafosse An hour is definitely worth the drive, especially if you’re buying a whole new build. Though, I’d have a game plan in that case. Also, the savings scale pretty well.

Hey Kyle,
I’m a huge fan of your channel.
Thank you,
Aaron
Given the horrible choices he's made in this video, I would not trust Kyle with my budget build. He can only make high-er end builds which are easier to pick.

7:45 I just kept thinking about how I own more hardware tools than anything related to computers and I’m telling myself “just use your dremel and cut some notches into the side of the case, you can stop by the store and get your own mesh and rivet it in if you really wanted to...”
I’d probably get the $23 case and add slots for ventilation where I needed it tbh

If you are building a budget pc I'd recommend to go with an used 1070.
you get simialar performance with a 1660 super
I'd go with 1660 at that price range and use the $20 bucks to get a case i can look at, say the CM Q300L with 500gb ssd. (team L5 Lite) or an (Island 480) all in that budget.
Just built a new R5 3600 system and reused my last build's GTX 1070 - really opened up the budget for other things!
At 11:42 you looked at the wifi model when you compared it to Amazon, if you scrolled down a bit you would see that the motherboard was 70 dollars on Amazon.
I live in Argentina, everything is tight here when we talk about money so this video helped me a lot ♥️
7:03 For like $5 more you could have gotten the 3rd case on the second row. It's looks much nicer than the one you picked and with a $550 budget, I feel like the case was a poor choice.
Who cares about the details, don't make his "mistake" and be done with it
People on a very tight budget would give zero fucks for case lol
Sure but I don't agree that it is a $550 build then if you go over it (before tax and shipping). It should be labeled as a $560 or $575 build.

Base of 3.1GHz, Boost up to 2.4 GHz. It looks like Kyle likes to underclock it this time :P :P

What's slc?

You save $20-30 on the MoBo, and you save a progressively larger amount on the CPU. A lot of the other stuff you’ll end up price matching, but that’s why you need a gameplan.
