I built my computer based on this build, most of the components. I was able to keep it under $750. Using a new MSI Tomahawk B450 MAX and Ryzen 5 3600x, a used XFX 5700 thic GPU, bad mistake, it was loud and overheated. I also used a semi-modular Corsair 650 bronze PU. Somehow the GPU, PU, and the motherboard failed. Just for those wondering... Current price is *$1,014.86* and that is before tax and shipping, etc. I would really look out for people selling these at cheap prices because you may find some deals.
I have just built a PC very similar to this one here in Australia. I went with the Ryzen 3600 instead of the 3600X because the latter is AU$100 more expensive (which is ridiculous). One thing I couldn't accept was that at 100 pct load temps with standard cooler went to 88 degrees (C) in a cool office :-( and during normal use, the CPU fan kept spinning up and down in speed which was very noticeable, so I got a be quiet! Dark Rock Slim cooler which is much better and completely silent. A very nice result: 2-3x faster than my old 4790K.
I'll be building a very similar build at the end of this month with a couple of tweaks. I'll be sure to let you know how it goes. Love your content! Best in the biz!

Dodayme everything that’s gone wrong so far has been purely my fault so it’s good. I have the same psu, cpu, and mobo but the other components are just slightly altered. I can get 100+ FPS on high-ultra settings for most games
I'm building a very similar system, the primary differences being a B550 MAG Tomahawk paired with a Radeon 5500 xt. Hopefully the lower power GC doesn't hinder my experiences in-game too much.
I really want the 5700 but I'm probably going to get the 2060 super. Ray tracing, drivers, heat issues and future proofing are all concerns I've seen in the GPU community. The 5700 had so much power for it's price range it's a shame that I'm so hesitant to commit to it.

Hey, I would like to make some input about the PSU as a person recently built a PC and had some problems. My system was relatively similar, same MOBO, 3600X, Samsung nvme m.2 SSD, RTX 2070 Super and geiL 16 GB Memory(AMD Edition). I had the exact same PSU, Corsair CX650W Bronze. And during certain games, at certain points my PC was rebooting. It was frustrating. After some research(and helps from various forum posts), I concluded the problem was the PSU. NEVER buy cheap Corsair PSU's. With a little bit of research you may find a lot of similar cases caused by Corsair budget PSU's. It didn't even made sense, I could play RDR2 with high settings without any problem, but I would get reboot during PES 2020 for example. The problem was, whenever my GPU needed full power, the PSU was failing. I know that my system required more power than this one, but still, there are lots of cases with similar specs too. Also, the MOBO is pretty upgradable and I humbly think you shouldn't gamble with cheap PSU. I bought a Seasonic Focus 750W 80+ Gold. I think it's around 30-40$ more expensive. But also, buying a new PSU was itself a gamble for me. It is really frustrating not being able to know the problem %100. It may also be GPU. In conclusion, buy a good, at least gold PSU in my opinion.
Honestly that 3600 needs a fucking pedestal. Cheap, with a load of horse power. This combined with the cheap, versatile AM4 platform. AMD opened up a whole world to a powerful PC that can chomp down on 1080p at 60hz or even 144 in a pinch for modern titles. Great system, great price. Something for a young kid to work hard for and save up. Giving them a system that can last for years and easy to upgrade if needed.
Not if u get the max version, if u get the non-max then yes u'll have to BIOS update. Bonus: If u go for an x470 mobo instead of a x570 u'll have to do a BIOS update.
Looking into either building a custom desktop gaming PC, or just buying a gaming laptop for using my Oculus Quest 128 VR headset with the Oculus Link cable for tethered gaming and/or sideloading. Do you have any suggestions, or considered a custom build specifically for VR gaming? That would make some nice content!
Great video. Very informative. Only thing I would change is the SSD to Seagates new series BarraCuda 120. Spec card is toe to toe with Samsung but a lower cost.
Its a little creepy to find a video of a pc with almost identical parts to the upgrades I did to my pc over the last few months... same mobo and processor, very similar case, and the exact gpu I’m looking at buying right now...
Note: hyperthreading does not offer anything towards gaming, its for heavy computing tasks such as 3D rendering. Something to take into consideration if you don’t care for it.
Gidday Paul, I built a gaming PC 7 years ago, my first ever build (wish you were on youtube then :-) ) It has been a fantastic system and I never had a problem........until I updated to Windows 10. Now I get hi temps on my CPU always and the GPU occasionally. I have updated my BIOS, chipset drivers and Nvidia drivers with no luck. I'm on the verge of building a new PC now because I've become frustrated. I'm really into recycling and I'd like to build from second hand or refurbed parts, I'll be reusing my corsair semi mod Gold 1000w PSU and the Antec 902 case. Can you suggest some reputable sites I could source some parts from and offer some guidance on parts for high end gaming (i'm not into LED's or watercooling). I'm in Australia btw! Love your vids and I'll be following your PC build vids when I get going. Thanks !
Very informative video, can’t wait to build my first PC. I got a budget of about $2k, looking between AMD RYZEN 9 3900X or Intel Core i9-10900K. Which one would you recommend? Also what motherboard and graphics card to go along with it? Keep up the great work!
A tower PC will last much longer for your bucks, a laptop with power is heavy, non portable, loud and hot. No real upgrades, ever. If GPU is dead, the whole laptop is dead. Changing BIOS battery after 3 years will most probably result in catastrophy. I had a MSI Laptop GS70 with GTX970, it was loud and hot and the keyboard ASDW where unusable after the first beer dropped. One unlucky second and the mighty laptop is gone. Dont lower your life standards by having to care such trash. If you really need a portable computer, try Surface Pro for 99% of everyday stuff. Use your tower PC at home when you like to play, make music and more computational expensive stuff, Take your tower to your friends LAN party, not the laptop. Its much more fun.
@@MrGerdbrecht oh man thank you. The problem is that I would like to have a powerful computer because I want to take it to the university. Because buy both would be even more expensive, even if the laptop is not that powerful
@@yagotrias3685 Look at the portable computer as a terminal to your more powerful pc (connected to the internet) in your room at university. Dont try to fill all your needs with ONE device. Use more devices that are still cheaper in sum because tower PC is much cheaper in the long run and a tablet terminal with keyboard can be a lightweight companion with acces to your full powered desktop using Windows Remote Desktop Connection or VNC, Linux, TeamViewer whatever you like. Even the Surface Pro 4 with M3 would be good terminal, a Surface Pro 4 with i5 is still passive cooled ( silent ) and can still manage some engineering programs like AutoCAD, SolidWorks etc.. heavy programs like that. Dont try solving all needs with one device. Its not possible for "poor" aka normal ppl. EDIT: Currently i use the SP4 for my everyday stuff. Its beautiful screen helps me with reading and writing text which is 99% of my everyday stuff. The screen is therefore the most important part of the companion. Then atleast 8h real battery life while "working" to survive a day at university. Then im building a midi tower PC for christmas ( me ) with R7 2700 ( 150€ ) + MSI Tomahawk B450 Max ( 100€ ) + 32GB RAM 3600MHz CL16 ( 180€ ), Corsair VS550W ( 50€ ), R200 Midi Tower, 256GB nvme ( 50€ ) and GPU 200€ and monitor 200€. Makes 650€ for the base PC, and 400 extra for GPU and Monitor, because i didnt had such thing in a long time ).
Pretty similar to what I am planning to build. Instead, I'm planning on building a microATX build, using a Ryzen 5 3600 not the 3600x, the MSI VDH-PRO microATX motherboard, a 5600 XT instead of 5700 XT, 16GB of 3200 mHz RAM not 3600 mHz, a 2TB HDD in addition to a 500GB SSD, the Meshify C microATX case, and a 550W PSU not a 650W PSU. I hope I'm making good choices, to build a PC to play 1080p gaming for 3+ years.
seems pretty decent. The CPU is more than good enough. The major difference between the 3600 and the 3600X is mostly the included cooler. Unless you plan to OC hard it won't matter and I wouldn't OC too hard in a small form factor case because of the heat generated. The GPU seems fine and 16GB of RAM is enough for gaming. I would get a NVME M.2 drive if you can for the boot drive and the OS and game filez. Store all your movies and other junk on the big HDD.
I’d have to say it definitely will age well with the 3600x in it. I have a 5 1600 that I still use and see no real reason to upgrade just yet. Amazing processors at great prices.
Had to see which video card you chose! That's the one I was thinking about, just figured you used XFX's being cheaper, at least these days anyway $300 RX5700. I'm running the Sapphire Pulse RX590 (which I have no complaints atm with fan noise or fps) but want this gpu when I upgrade. Thinking about just the RX 5700 Pulse $380. Sapppire Nitro + cards have better bench marks & reviews + are quiter on the RX 480-590's than other offerings from what I've seen. $450 for Nitro + would be tempting will have to see what prices do by then.. How did that MSI do on fan noise at load? Have to admit that MSI card & board look pretty sweet, not a fan of that towers looks but it worked. The XFX's design's now suck imo btw & are loud @ load at least their RX480-590's solutions, now the 5700's shrowd looks like the Pulse/Nitro RX590's lol.
but some 450 motherboards have to be upgraded for 3rd gen cpus and also the 5700xt is literally the same as 1660 in the nvidia platform so you just pay a extra 100 and youll get the 2060
Wait until ampere tech RTX 3070 (or whatever they name it as) comes out. The entry cards themselves are rumored to perform better than RTX 2080 Ti and there are definitely two cards (maybe RTX 3070 and the Ti version) that would be prices sub 500$. Alternatively, you could then also go for any card like RTX 2060 Super or 2070 Super for much better prices than today. I've heard a release as early as August, not a long wait.
Hey Paul just a quick question .... im in the market for a new monitor would you ever do a review on 3 monitors that are middle of the road on, cost bang for your buck, and performance, 144hz refresh rate , kinda need some help dont want to get the wrong one or make a bad choice , keep up the great work loving the videos, thumbs up all the way !!!! Thanks
I would have to disagree, based on my research, that the meshify C is a well rated case. I'm looking for a case for a new build, and this is a case I definitely would not consider (even though my current case is made by Fractal).
So im a kid who makes around about 800-1.5k per month (i have 2 very weird jobs that pay extremely well but vary alot) anyways, i dont have the funds for one right now cause i just finished paying off my car but would it be wise to get a credit card for a little bit then take out a loan for this and have that to be a stepladder for building good credit while being able to afford some 75+ payment per month which is fairly easy to do considering my circumstances
I wish there was a larger selection of quality cases without the glass panels. I'm not in my early teens anymore, and I don't have friends I need to impress when they visit for a sleep-over. I'm confident I will have my Define R5 for the next 2 or three decades at least.
I would throw a used RX580 on their since Ethereum prices are making them dirt cheap. Also I think you could do better on the case and SSD and come down quite a bit in price with the same quality.
Almost a year ago I choose 9700k 2080S over the 3600x 5700xt. Never regret since! Well ,later may go for 3080ti GPU upgrade. For cpu, well I did not need anything more than 8 cores 5ghz for now. Maybe later , then .. I would go for AMD yes.

Being Methusalem at over 50 but having built C64 and C128 and such I now just started research into a VR machine set up and your videos were by far the best to guide me during my decision making process. Damn, all because of Half-Life - addiction is a bitch😀 Thanks Paul and Subscribed.
That's almost the exact system I want to build!!!!!
Thank you so much for your videos. I just built my very first PC based off this video and the “First 5 things to do with a new PC build.” It made the build and set up a breeze. Thanks man and keep up the great work.
I'm so glad I built this pc as i was able to harvest the fan units to use for water filtration. #apocalypse
This same build still costing me $2000 Canada. 🥺🥺
Cause of covid 19
Thats around what it cost here in Australia too. Sad times.
Spend $1899 for pre-built water cooled system from EKWB, comes with ryzen 5 5600 cpu. Almost no one is able to build a single unit at that price!
Lmao
I'll be building a very similar build at the end of this month with a couple of tweaks. I'll be sure to let you know how it goes. Love your content! Best in the biz!
As someone who will build his first gaming pc... any recomendations?
Awesome rig, just like mine. I have Ryzen 5 3600, POWERCOLOR RX 5700 XT 8 GB Red Dragon, ASUS B450M-A, GEIL Evo Spear 16 GB 3200Mhz, ANTEC Neo Eco 650W 80+ Bronze, SSD 480 GB ADATA SU630 & Antec NX100 case.
Huge thank you to this im currently buying parts for a gaming pc and ive got hardly any idea what im doing but your video basically confirmed im going in the right direction
Got tomahawk i550 and 2 8g vengance memory and a 1 tb SSD and am currently looking at an AMD Ryzen 5 3400G and thats where im stuck atm lol but now i know what to look for so thank you a bunch
This is pretty much my exact build which was completely accidental I swear
How does it run for you ?
Asking for an opinion
Dodayme everything that’s gone wrong so far has been purely my fault so it’s good. I have the same psu, cpu, and mobo but the other components are just slightly altered. I can get 100+ FPS on high-ultra settings for most games
@@kcid6655 thanks for the answer
Been subbed, already clicked like, and now im leaving a comment for the algorithm. With that being said i really did enjoy the video, much love.
Thanks that helped me alot qnd i cried a lot
I'm building a very similar system, the primary differences being a B550 MAG Tomahawk paired with a Radeon 5500 xt. Hopefully the lower power GC doesn't hinder my experiences in-game too much.
I really want the 5700 but I'm probably going to get the 2060 super. Ray tracing, drivers, heat issues and future proofing are all concerns I've seen in the GPU community.
The 5700 had so much power for it's price range it's a shame that I'm so hesitant to commit to it.
Yeah! You totally should get the 2060s
I'd love to win this pc because I'm always broke and can't even afford to build this.
@Tony Stark is £1300 a good amount to spend for something with streaming capability?
@@harry3837 you can go on pcpartpicker and it has pre made list for a good streaming PC that will fit your budget if you don't know much about PC's also you should go with AMD instead of Intel
@@harry3837you need and CPU and Nvidia gpu
thank you! I am definitely going to be looking more into doing this!
For the hdd you can get a seagate barracuda 2tb 7200 rpm for 45$-55$
512 GB should be good...
Me: laughs in Ark
Yes you can download Roblox about 25600 times
thanks it was very informative. didnt know 10 things about building pcs and now i do!!!
Someday I'll be financially stable enough to finally own a gaming PC.
Try paying for 4 kids, your own computer, and one for each of them...it can be quite painful. One child is still waiting on a computer, and one has an old gtx 750ti graphics card in theirs.
@@sophistacate5037 instead of paying for them, offer to build one with them if they save up for it. Good bonding time with your kids and an easy way to teach them how to hustle.
Im getting ready to built my 2nd gaming pc since 2007. Getting Amd!
That's exciting. I bought a prebuilt about a year ago and upgraded the GPU 3 months ago and than I said screw it. I'll built my first PC and give the pre built to my little bro and I finished building it last week. Went with Ryzen 7 3700X and Sapphire Nitro+ 5700XT and for the case I went with the white Lian Li Liancool 2. I love that case.
This pc build would cost about $1400 where i live.
Can relate 😭

Honestly that 3600 needs a fucking pedestal.
Cheap, with a load of horse power. This combined with the cheap, versatile AM4 platform.
AMD opened up a whole world to a powerful PC that can chomp down on 1080p at 60hz or even 144 in a pinch for modern titles.
Great system, great price. Something for a young kid to work hard for and save up. Giving them a system that can last for years and easy to upgrade if needed.
Do I need to update BIOS with this CPU and Mobo or no?
Not if u get the max version, if u get the non-max then yes u'll have to BIOS update.
Bonus: If u go for an x470 mobo instead of a x570 u'll have to do a BIOS update.
This is the best build that makes sense. Thank god someone did it right!!
This is the exact same setup i wanted to build this year but corona messed up the prices, i guess i need to build this next year :/
$900 Gaming PC that Everyone Should Build! Give me 900 bucks and I sure will....
So, how much would these components cost now? $3,000? $4,000?
Even before seeing this i was doing a build with the same motherboard GPU and CPU
Just searched and saw you covered a VR PC build a while ago. Any updates?
8:08 You lie Paul. I'm so disappointed.
I love all these build videos have links that are never in stock or cost twice what they say they do in the vid lol
Thanks !
This is great for budget build i hope I can build when time is good for me
Sorry man, my wallet says no.
Very informative video, can’t wait to build my first PC. I got a budget of about $2k, looking between AMD RYZEN 9 3900X or Intel Core i9-10900K. Which one would you recommend? Also what motherboard and graphics card to go along with it? Keep up the great work!
"That everyone should buy" and I just want a laptop and I can't afford it
A tower PC will last much longer for your bucks, a laptop with power is heavy, non portable, loud and hot.
Use your tower PC at home when you like to play, make music and more computational expensive stuff,
Take your tower to your friends LAN party, not the laptop.
Then im building a midi tower PC for christmas ( me ) with R7 2700 ( 150€ ) + MSI Tomahawk B450 Max ( 100€ ) + 32GB RAM 3600MHz CL16 ( 180€ ), Corsair VS550W ( 50€ ), R200 Midi Tower, 256GB nvme ( 50€ )
and GPU 200€ and monitor 200€.
Makes 650€ for the base PC, and 400 extra for GPU and Monitor, because i didnt had such thing in a long time ).
@@MrGerdbrecht Now you have convinced me, I'm thinking about building my own gaming pc. Thanks for your help, I appreciate it
Make mini itx and carry it with you instead of books
If you guys want you can also go for the ryzen 7 3700x it makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE
My windows 2000 would fly on that, quake 2 and HALO would be stunning.
Might build this exact pc
but some 450 motherboards have to be upgraded for 3rd gen cpus and also the 5700xt is literally the same as 1660 in the nvidia platform so you just pay a extra 100 and youll get the 2060
this is still my gold standard build... which I haven't built yet. Now wondering whether I should just go for it or wait for the next gen
Its been awhile since I built a new pc. I noticed it looks like the bios manufacturers have really stepped up the look of there bios screens.
I built almost this exact PC and it cost me $1338, but that was including all the peripherals
Pretty much exactly what I want to build. Would a Noctua CPU cooler fit? They fit most cases yeah? Just RAM clearance an issue?
Is there any different Storage
could you rec a build where I don't care about overclocking? especially mobo.
I wish that was only $900 in my country
This is the EXACT computer (except case & PSU) that I built 4 months ago lol.
I would absolutely love a pc built by you only if i could afford it i def need an upgrade :( great informative video thank u paul
I like that the graphics cards have tripled in price since this video...
Thanks for the video. Am trying to learn to build my first gaming pc. I am wondering why you haven't used a liquid cooling for this pc?
I would throw a used RX580 on their since Ethereum prices are making them dirt cheap. Also I think you could do better on the case and SSD and come down quite a bit in price with the same quality.
How long would this build last in terms of being able to play new games as they come out over the years?
Adding an additional pair of DDR4 would be simple?
Almost a year ago I choose 9700k 2080S over the 3600x 5700xt. Never regret since! Well ,later may go for 3080ti GPU upgrade. For cpu, well I did not need anything more than 8 cores 5ghz for now. Maybe later , then .. I would go for AMD yes.
