That was the best demo of the eyemaster pedal. Thx dude
I love the job you do to try out everything that is HM-2 related, thanks for sharing \m/
Thanks, Stephane, such a unique sound deserves some attention!
I like that you put some physics into the reviews, I love metal and I love physics.
You deserve more subs. Great comparison! I recently picked up this pedal for under $50 USD new. Can't wait to try it out when it delivers!
Thanks, man!
Seems like it is more pricey in the US than here in Europe, but nonetheless great deal!
@@DomeNightbearer Yeah, $50-60 USD is a common price new for this pedal here. I got it with a promo code at $43.62. In Euro, that would be 38.61. In the 90s, I once had the (Japanese) Boss HM-2. Big regret selling it. I did not know what I had then. Used it to filthy up the keys and electro drums in industrial-metal recordings. :)
Amazing demo, thanks! Eyemaster seemed to have a stronger mid tone. Mids always win for me.
Great comparison, I like that you ran a recording through the pedals instead of playing live so you could tweak the controls while "playing", it's a good idea for those us who don't have four hands! I think the Eyemaster holds up fantastically with the HM-2 when the distortion knob is anywhere from 0.0 to about 9.5, but then as you crank it that last little bit towards dimed I think the HM-2 starts to shine more and just sound better and a little more clarity. The noise takes over a little too strongly with the Eyemaster. For the price though it's nearly perfect.
in my opinion, the distortion knob on any HM-2 (clone) doesn't have to be set over 9 o'clock. If you need more Distortion, just turn up your amp-gain!
Excellent demo and comparison. I really enjoy your videos. Your research and accuracy is always excellent.
Tried this beast out today. Definitely the closest thing to the real deal, but with its own touch on the mids. I think it's kind of more clean than the original which definitely helps when playing Palm mutes. That was something I always had trouble with my original HM-2.
Love the tone!
It's thanks to this video that I bought this beast.
Thank you for your quality content! I'm so glad you put EQ Graphs into perspective, realy insightfull. Will buy Eyemaster in 15 minutes!
Peace bro!
This stuff is great for Grindcore!
Bloodbath
Liked & Subscribed. Very good review & comparison. :)
Great video, man!! Thanks!
hi Dome, i love your channel. i just bought an eyemaster after watching your videos cause i always wanted have a "bloodbath" like sound. it sounds really cool, even and maybe better on my clean channel ! for those who say it has not enough gain on clean channel...well check your guitar first. i have a Hamer with emg81 in direct (bypassed volume and tone) and the gain is huge. even palm mute are great, distinct, with lot of distorsion... thx for all videos !
I ordered one after hearing this. Years ago I saw the TC demo, never gave it another chance until your video. I've learned my lesson after over paying for boutique builds. Love the content, brother.
the official dc demo was one of the reasons to actually start this channel 😅
I prefer the boutique builds, but the eyemaster gives you already 90 - 95%, true!
@@DomeNightbearer trve, I've got mine running through an mxr eq and an isp decimator to my randall diavlo rd45. Crusty stuff!
Best product demo! Thx!
extremely well done. thank you.
Sounds almost identical. Definitely buying one
Just ordered an Eyemaster, thank you. It does one thing :)
Congrats on making probably the only Eyemaster/HM-2 video that doesn't sound like unusable shit! I don't mean to insult other videos, but something about this tone seems really hard to capture for your average youtuber pedal demo.
Eyemaster is a cool pedal. I rig it through a Boss EQ pedal for some extra beef. 🤘🏻
holy shit man, u just got the last bloodbath's album tone, that's amazing bro!!!
I just ordered the eyemaster with a cheap noise gate a few minutes ago
Really digging it
Ehrenmann 🔥💪
I have the Japanse HM-2 and a Taiwanese HM-2. Just got a Arion Metal Master. Now I'm gonna get this too. Didn't even know this was a clone so a big thanks for that and the awesome demo's. The HM-2 is so unique. Loved that sound since first hearing Lefthand Path and some old EOS.
I heard about it and the name got my attention. Sadly the official tc electronic video is poorly made, so it is thanks to the Band Baest, that I found out this was actually an HM-2 clone!
@@DomeNightbearer it is 29 euro atm. The other Behringer version has the original layout but plastic fantastic and do you even need those pots. The demo was poorly made wow you couldn't tell it was a HM-2 clone. Ever tried the FZ-2 and their clones? Might just be your thing too. I love it. Doom metal in a box. The whole BOSS 2 series is magic.
yeah, the metal housing on the eyemaster is much more durable than the plastic. It's definitely nice to have the ability to set bass and mid to your preferences, but if you're lusting after the chainsaw, you just don't need those two!
I've never been much into fuzz, but heard good thing about the FZ-2. Might check some pedals out in the future if I find them anywhere cheap!
Great comparison, man! Still prefer the good old HM-2 but unfortunately it's just too expensive, so I ordered an Eyemaster and an HM300 - should have 'em both this week. My neighbours will hate me... \m/
Thank you for the comparoison Metal David Gilmour!
lol
The fact that you made the eye master sound good is astonishing. They should have had you do the demo video since they clearly didn't know how to do it properly!
haha, thanks, man! I actually watched the tc vid and instantly forgot about this pedal. Then a few weeks later I found the Baest-Playthrough and then the pedal got my interest. Too bad that tc didn't do the eyemaster justice!
@@DomeNightbearer I have a LWA Dismember variation of the Left Hand Wrath, but this video showed me the eyemaster is an inexpensive, viable solution if I ever want to use the chainsaw in a live setting. Great job on the videos. I've thoroughly enjoyed all of these chainsaw files!
I love how the gain knob does pretty much nothing XD
This video is WAY better at putting the Eyemaster on display than the official video of theirs. It's like they didn't want to sell any? I passed it over after watching their official video, I'd certainly purchase one as an inexpensive back up if I was in need of one.
Yeah, that's what I initially thought after watching it, too!
Be honest hands up who laughed when he said "and huge nobs"?
I laughed while drinking coffee and Satan help me, now i need more coffee.
Great series of videos keep up the good work
These two literally sound identical. What in the actual fuck lmao.
It's got to be the good old Boss HM-2 pedal for me, I'm a die-hard old metal bastard from the 80's and the HM-2 is 80's metal to the max, and has precious memories for me.
Could you combine this pedal with the TC Electronic Fangs to get a tighter chainsaw sound?
Musicstore has it for €29,- I think?
Great sounds man!! I still prefer the HM-2 over the clones I have heard and/ or tried.
I don’t know if you’ve heard of seen this, but a RAT pedal with an EQ pedal (with a specific setting) behind it is said to come really close to the Swedish Buzzsaw sound. Ever since I heard that on UA-cam I wanted to hear that in person! 😂
I really enjoyed the song in the beginning of the video. 🤘
I bought it via Thomann for 29, seems to be the new standard pricing.
Yeah, I heard that about the RAT, but I don't own neither a Rat nor an EQ-Pedal to try this out, but this might be something for the future!
Here is that UA-cam video about the ProCo Rat set for an HM-2 style sound with an EQ pedal:
ua-cam.com/video/Ju8rc4cIAJY/v-deo.html
That video uses the Boss GE-7 EQ pedal. It does give the Rat a very similar sound to the HM-2, but not exactly the same. Still, for those not having an original HM-2, if you can live with the EQ'ed Rat as a Swedeath style sound, then it may be an easy alternative to more expensive boutique HM-2 clones (or the cheap ones with their limits)
knock knock
whos there?
floating tremolo
*_locks door_*
Eyemaster ain’t cheap anymore after all these demos. Drove the cost way up.
Not here... you can still grab them under 30€ used.
Thanks for this! I ordered an Eyemaster a while back (it's backordered for some reason.) I also ordered the Tales of Sorcery and Death album on Amazon.
A while back, I mentioned that the JB-2 supposedly chainsaws. Well, I picked one up. It gets pretty gnarly into the clean channel of my Peavey Bandit 112 - pedal in parallel mode with both tones and drives cranked (about 9 o'clock on both volumes.) However, I prefer going into my drive channel with both volumes and tones cranked, and drives zeroed. I get a sound that reminds me of old school Hypocrisy.
Thanks, dude!
And you got me with Hypocrisy! Have to grab one up eventually!
@@DomeNightbearer No problem. So yeah, the JB-2 isn't a clone, but it gets pretty close (I think it has more mids.) That being said, it's probably THE MOST versatile drive/distortion pedal I've ever used. You basically get a BOSS Blues Driver and a JHS Angry Charlie all in one. It's not cheap... but I can see it being someone's only drive pedal on their board. It's really insane how much it can do. It's also got me closer to that Hypocrisy tone that I've ever been.
Also, the HM-2 has Low/High dials and therefore a greater range of sounds, I actually dial the settings back from full just slightly to give a sharper & more crunching deathrash tone, while still very raw, violent, and super high gain. You can't do that on the Eyemaster as there are no Low/High dials, so its purely for the Swedeath sound.
Yeah, that's a big deficit the eyemaster has, but there are plenty of other options on the market. I might do a future video on other sounds the hm2 can do... thanks for the idea ;)
Would you say this is the best budget HM-2 clone you've had so far?
I compared it to the Behringer HM300 in another video. You should watch it as well. But all in all it's the cheapest currently available 🤣
Was that the George Harrison "Rocky" strat I saw on your guitar rack?the multi-colored painted one I'm referring to.
Nope, you're wrong. It's a swirl I think... well... some day I'll do a studio tour 😉
@@DomeNightbearer Very cool, that would be a good video! Thanks man.👍🤘
I wonder ive this is a modded behringer hm-300 since some people claim other pedals in this line are. And this is the first line TC put out since behringer owns them.
I got the blood moon phaser and that is a nice pedal.
Never heard of, but that would explain the rather low price on this one!
I think it is exactly an HM-300 circuit with the Low & Mid knobs removed and "hard-wired" to the dimed position, and then put into a much nicer and more durable metal casing with higher quality connectors.
should have called it, chainsaw blues
I have an eyemaster,I have to buy a new ampli, can I put it on a Boss Katana 50?Thanks a lot.
The Eyemaster should work with every amp, so yes to the Katana!
Sorry for my english cause I’m Italian,so you’re not sure...😕
@@lesommelierdevikernes Haven't tried it myself, but the Katana is versatile enough to handle the Eyemaster just fine!
brtzlfx I’m frightned of this....if it doesn’t work...you know the amp anyway have a cost...Thank you mate.
Yeah, I know what you mean. Anyway you can just go with your Eyemaster to the shop and try it out or you order online and can return it if you are not satisfied!
What are you tuned to just curious?
B-Standard 😉
Like no differences
I'll go for the AAAIMASTA'
Probably commented it somewhere else but I am baffled as to why they didn't include a high eq knob, without it, even 30€ seems painfully high for what is a one trick pony (an awful trick at that)
Better than hm2. [ in my opinion.]
Now the eye master is like 170
Whaaaat? Euro? USD? Paperclips?
I used to have one, I loved the simplicity and the tone I just hated the size and the layout of the pedal
Maybe the decibelics Angry Swede is more to your likings. It's a mini hm2 pedal!
@@DomeNightbearer I'll have to try one since I'm starting to collect HM-2 clones lol
good choice! :D
So goddamn noisy 🤯
Yesssss allll the gainnn
Thank you for your great videos. However, I have a disagreement about that one.
The Boss HM-2 can be used on a solid state combo (a Peavey Bandit for example, as it was done at the beginning), even on the clean channel.
I was very disappointed by the TC Electronic's Eyemaster, because under these conditions, it gives nothing. It has no power, no gain. It is by no means the "metal distortion" indicated.
You use it on a tube amp I guess, as a booster, I would even say only as an equalizer. You cut the distortion of the pedal, while the "classic" setting is all the way up, including the distortion. With your gears, and your settings, I'm sure you can get the chainsaw tone with a simple equalizer like the Boss GE-7.
But for me, that's not the HM-2. The HM-2 is a pedal that produces its own "metal" distortion, which the Eyemaster does not do.
very interesting point of view, thank you for that! I will do a future video on this problem. Really curious how it turns out!
That's how I use my eyemaster with a 6505mh. Sounds brutal, hail Satan \m/
