Isn't it ironic that a pedal for metal music is made of plastic
But it doesn't sound plastic 😲
Don't you think
And pink
And hot pink
No its not ironic. Its plastic

Eh needs a bit more gain... maybe throw a metal zone in there and you’ll have enough gain for some light jazz
Ah te mamaste
Agustín Frutis I think At The Gates actually did that. A metal zone and a HM2 through a peavey. HM2 gain at zero, MT2 as boost though.
lol reminds me of when i started playing guitar and thought you can never have enough gain
*treble zone
I ended up getting the Behringer hm300 and it sounds great with my Keeley compressor in front of it to give it a little extra chainsaw without getting too muddy.
Shouldn't the Behringer be 150 times better because of it's name? I mean the boss is only a HM2 and the Behringer is a HM300

Honestly yeah Behringer is a cheap brand , but their pedals I personally love , this is hands-down one of the best clones you can buy no joke.
I actually had one of the original HM-2 pedals when they first came out, and during a period of mental instability, I gave it away. I have to say, the HM-300 is pretty bloody close.
Behringer makes great stuff
Behringer has their own city kinda. They own so much is why they can get by with selling shit so cheap too
You need a Behringer gm108 and turn all the knobs to max and mids to 1 or 2 and you get a special but awsome death metal sound. Thats btw the only setting that sounds good with this amp.
Their SF300 is an even more spot on emulation of the Boss Hyper Fuzz, if you want the electric wizard type fuzz tone!
I'm watching this with headphones on.
My wife in the other room yelled at me for playing guitar too loud.

I expected your doorbell to be a little heavier sounding.

I vote he installs a "walk" doorbell.
@@jokinmyass9446 But just the part where Phil says to “WALK ON HOME BOY!”
HM300 seems to be slightly brighter while the HM2 seems to to have more attack.
Both excellent sounding.
You're spot on. I use the former for shoegaze and a friend of mine uses the later for, well, metal lol.
It's the pink casing that does it.

Fuck yeah. THAT'S the tone.
3:07 That is the sound that Mr. Les Paul had in mind when he was experimenting with new concepts of guitars
HM300's colour is exactly the same as MBV's Loveless album. This pedal was actually made to play some shoegaze
Im pretty sure bilinda used an hm-2
they probably used a hm2 honestly it's so heavy
Honestly why I’m buying one 😂
Although I’m sure I’ll do some black metal riffs too
yeah they used an hm2
From what I recall the album guitar was completely done by kevin shields. That said, bilinda butcher used the hm-2 for live performance

hoehlentroll69 who said, this is a joke?
Lol you're hilarious
If it was a Metallica joke wouldn’t I be laughing like “WAAHHHhahahaha”
Started running my HM-2 at 12vdc shortly after Ola's last chainsaw demo,
and now I love it even more.
I added the 300 to my gigging pedal board for 2 songs and I didn't have high hopes for it lasting ( sounds great) and after 2 years in that band it's on my home board and still doing great. Awesome pedals for the price and when it comes to boss pedals they are so so close as they own the rights to the circuit board designs
Behringer has cornered the market by making most of the parts that other companies use.
@@vipervidsgamingplus5723 didn't they buy all the rights to a load of classic pedal designs and schematics.. so in fairness they are as close as you can get for £20-£25 instead of 100s on vintage pedals
Furious Neighbor: Achievement Conquered

4:54 just for you guys
are you talking about the feedback or actual tone? xd
The one and only, unmistakeable, irreplaceable HM-2 feedback.
,,i think HM 2 a little better,,
I like to imagine the neighbor said: "What are you doing? Are you sawing bears in half with a chainsaw? Because it sounds like you are sawing bears in half with a chainsaw."
Why am I watching a review of a 20$ pedal I should just buy the damn thing.
I am a frugal man and I want to make sure that my money is properly invested towards a chunky tone
Now do the dreaded Digitech Death Metal
Dax Bradshaw it just sounds like bees!
I got one, if you Ola want it to review it, i´ll give you for free
Dax, there's a mod for Digitech Death Metal pedal that replaces the fixed feedback resistor with a potentiometer which acts as a functional gain knob. If you have some soldering skills you can find the instructions online and mod it yourself. It's a bit tricky and you can ruin the pedal but then again, it's a worthless piece of shit anyway so who cares. An easier trick to reduce the insane gain level of the pedal is to roll back the volume knob on your guitar. I tried it myself and it works. You wont get a very good tone out of it whatever you do to it but it can be made to sound less shitty.
Yes! a DOD vs Digitech would be nice
Sam Delanoe its actually a pretty ok pedal
I've been an hm300 disciple for years, I think the clipping is way smoother and is a little more versatile (from an eq boost all the way to fuzz territory.) Though the killer app for that pedal is truly bass. I'm sure people have heard these to death, but I would love to see a video of you shooting out your distortions/drives on bass!!
Possibly the best tone I've ever had for metal was plugging straight into my solid state CRATE G40 XL on its 3 knob(gain, level, shape) distortion channel and line out into some brand 130c 2x12 on the clean channel. It was resonant and note definition worked perfectly for "the bleeding" style trem picked hammer on, pull offs. It was great at making ones playing sound right and controlled even if you were at your limit and barely hanging on. It was basically the antithesis of how a class A amp seems to magnify mistakes but touch sensitive and expressive.
may I say, your amp tone is just absolutely legendary. people will say "sounds crunchy" but this is CRUN CHY
I fuckin love the Swedish Death Metal sound, for such a distorted tone its very organic sounding, never quite been able to figure out why that is tho.
Joseph Browne i think it comes off “organic” because of the way that it gets crunchier and has a very rhythmic quality to it.
Christopher Chambers Possibly, but theirs just something right about it anyways. Like the melodic parts of Dismember songs would never work if the structure of the distortion was anything different.
"It makes me feel like a man, and sometimes i need help with that." I shot iced tea out of my nose. Thanks Ola. 😂
Cheap though Behringer are, when I started playing and throughout college I had no money so these were fantastic for me 🙂
I love playing with these pedals(in my swedish death metal style band), I prefer to put the distortion on minimal and the other options on max then play it through the gain channel on the amp. It makes the sound alot more refined, you should try it sometime. =]
Whole room vibrating?!!, ahhhh you made this vid for the ladies!!lol!
Pink! Definitely for ladies.
shhhhhh
"It goes up to 11, that's like 1 more than 10"
Too bad, it's still one less than 12
I have MIJ HM-2, MIT HM-2, Behringer HM300, and TC Electronic Eyemaster. All awesome pedals for “all settings on 10” Swedish Buzzsaw. They may be a one trick pony. But it is a damn good trick. Boss HM-2 is the cornerstone of my guitar tone. This pedal has had a major resurgence lately.
I'm gonna listen to Dismember after this video, I can feel it already..
Dismember has the perfect swedish guitar tone. Ibanez tube screamer...
Dismember do have perfect Swedish DM tone.
Why didn't you put it into the clean channel instead?
because only pussies do so!
T4rry Gaming That’s awesome and true lol but I do agree it would of been nice to hear them on the clean channel
fender132435 Because that's not how you HM2!!!
Apparently you don't understand how Gain works, you turn it all the way up! Then, you figure out how to turn the Gain up more, those sweet sweet pedals cranked all the way up should do the trick...
Back when I started playing it was just about the distortion pedal, now it seems everyone likes to use the amp overdrive with an overdrive/distortion pedal on low gain. Personally I still prefer the former.
Hey man always love the videos and your playing, only thing is would be nice to see more variety of riffs in each video. Keep up the metal! Love the DOOM tshirt!!!
"I can feel my beard growing, playing through this rig..." Hellz yea
I actually use the Behringer UM300 live... To be fair it's only for replicating a gnarly type of distortion, works well as an effect. Not so much as a great heavy tone.
That Behringer HM300 sounds damn cool. Should get mine this week (or so I hope). \m/
You was killing it on the demo. Really great video. Keep it up and keep it METAL!
When u had both going at the same time it really reminded me of cliff burtons bass tone playing for whome the bells told at live on the green.
That broke my hymen. 🤣
Finally your neighbours realised that you was playing guitar, not doing a home renovation or some shit :D
Always enjoy these videos. Informative and entertaining and, most importantly, lotsa fun!
I had the Behringer pedal once. I dialed the gain back on it and used it on my amp's crunch channel. Sounded pretty good that way.
Every time I hear a "dimed" HM-2, I get an instant flashback to being a teenager and blasting Entombed's _Clandestine_ for weeks on end. Chugggrrfffzzz!!!
The metal pedal I really cherish is the BOSS "Metal Core" ML-2, I really would love to hear a demo from you on that gear or even compare with the HM-2
I can tell you there's a lot to be said for a Mesa Boogie triple rectifier set on a light overdrive sound, and then using an Ibanez Tube Screamer. it works really good for when you need a little bit of a bump to play leads and solos
Really enjoy your videos and reviews dude. It brings a smile to my face. 🤘🏼
Hey ola, what are your favorite settings on the boss katana to get the best metal tone?
Leon 2000 Doesnt work like that bud, unless you have the same guitar, signal chain, finger tone ect. it's not going to sound the same anyhow
Lmao! The first time I’ve ever seen a comedy show with shredding ass guitar as the main topic.. this guy is a nut.. love your vids to say The least.. always entertaining..
dude you're really putting the work, a video every other day or so..props to you man! \m/ Although I kinda miss these videos, that you just played and played! and it sounded mean..good ol'days! rock on bro
I absolutely love your reviews and comparisons man!
3:00 😂😂 Reminded me of what my own HM pedal sounded like in front of a Laney AOR 100, in the 80s. You made them all sound good though.
Could we maybe get a video on the Boss HM2 and Boss MT2 for that Slaughter of the Soul tone?
Yes plz
Mike McGillis yeah that’s a great tone. Through a solid state Peavey & homemade cabinet
Ola have you considered getting an A/B pedal for pedal comparisons? To engage/disengage them through single button for instant "no middle sounds" action.
This is pure madness, and I like it. You just invented a new kind of sub genre "Insane Metal"
Please do a gear video on heartwork era carcass!
Ian Moore yes!!! Agreed!!
Or in Necroticism era.
Ian check out the circle of tone video on carcass
The difference is small because most of the gain is coming from the amp, not the pedals.
Matthew Smith he is taking the piss. 😂😂😂
Very true. Id like to hear these pedals thru a small solid state combo.
Geno Turrise no you wouldn’t
@@Gee-no Entombed has got ya covered. It can be heard pretty well on their song Wolverine Blues right into an SS Peavey :)
I always like these type of videos. Thank you for making this.
You should try the TC Electronic Eyemaster, it's about $50-60, its made out of metal, it doesn't have the white noise of the Behringer, despite only having a gain and volume knob, the pedal is based of the HM-2 dimed and sounds amazingly close. I keep both and love them both!
but the pink one will bring in tha whamen!! >.
Bubbles, yeah no. The guitar player that gets the girl brought the girl. We obsess over our shit like a woman with ocd and they hate it.
The best way to use an HM-2 is to max out everything, but leave the gain at zero/low, and run that into a medium gain sound. You're effectively boosting the amp, whilst using that crazy maxed hm-2 eq character.
Gives that HM-2/Swedish DM 'hairyness', but makes it a lot less noisy and more defined. Best of both worlds. It's the method Dismember used I think.
I've had the same experience. I also like it quite a lot with neutral level, maxed EQ and pretty low gain in front of a completely distorted amp. Just a hint of chainsaw, but with tight chunky palm mutes. It's more versatile than people give it credit for
dude... that initial boss HM2 riffing sounds exactly like old entombed. awesome.
I have one of these Behringer pedals I have used 80's boss HM pedal before but thought I would see what sounds you would get cos the other reviews were not metal enough :) so thank's for showing us about this pedal I think I will give it a try as I was planning on making some old school swedish death metal style songs & this sound could be what I need to inspire me :) have an awesome weekend!
2:20 you had my lol'ing in this cafe
2:59 Haven't laughed that hard in a long while xP
Can you make a comparison video between the HM-2 and Bias remaking the HM-2 sound?
Just received mine. I know it's mostly famous for swedish metal bit for some reason i find it perfect for that 80´s japanese hair metal tone. Loudness and X Japan.
Works REALLY well with my Wylde L500L pickup which kinda already had that buzzsaw quality. It takes overdrives really well too.
Not the best pedal in the world but it definitely a fun one.
The BOSS HM2 is a great pedal ! Peope just don'w know how to dail it because its super sensitive .
Sounds like you’re summoning a demon every time you chug
Hey Ola, what clip on mic do you use for these videos? I want to do more with my channel but I need a microphone and don't know what to get.
Just got a Behringer um 300 and the od300 pedals for my mxr phaser 95 on Christmas they sound insane I love them
Even if Behringer would be bad everybody should buy it for its color alone anyway.
Penki from Entrails basically played this exact rig, Satan with HM-2 before he switched over to play bass.
Patrik Nekrotik I love that band
For me it sounds like there is a difference in the low mid, around 120-300Hz maybe. That area is stronger in amplitude in the Boss pedal I would say.
Love it that it was loud enough for the neighbors to complain!! 😂🤘😆
Can you do TC Electronic Eyemaster?
"....turn it up a little, just because it's Monday......"
Nice warm and transparent tones for soft jazz chords, also suitable for light blues at sunday morning. Big like.
love the t-shirt.
I started play DOOM in 1996 when I was a 6 years old kid and this inspired me in my life on Counter Strike
9:35 i think ola is secretly making some doom ethernal soundtracks -_- pretty cool riff tho🤘🏻👌🏼
2:58 The moment when Ola's Dimebag awake

the more i watch him play the boss pedal and his beard growing the more i love him
