The Two Most Powerful Sliders in Nik Silver Efex Pro: Bitesize Nik Tutorials

  • In this video, we’re going to look at what I consider the two most powerful sliders in Nik Silver Efex Pro. I’m also going to show you a counter-intuitive approach to using these controls to achieve great results. I think these sliders and this approach will surprise you.
    This video is part of my Bitesize Nik Tutorials series. These videos explain how to use some of the most important and powerful tools in the Nik Collection. The tutorials are shorter than the usual photo editing demonstrations I show with the Nik Collection because they focus on the essential elements. If you want to learn how to use and achieve the best results with the Nik Collection, watch the tutorials in this collection.
    Also, if there is an aspect of using the Nik Collection plugins that you’re having difficulty with, let me know by leaving a comment in one of the videos. I’m always looking out for new ideas for tutorials, especially when they can help people.

    I've never really got to grips with SilverEfex - until now. Your tutorials explain the plug in very well. The more of your Nik tutorials I watch, the more I'm using Nik, and seeing benefits in my photos. So thanks again, looking forward to more.

    Robin first your voice is so soothing and calm. Thanks for this video, its a life saver. Recently went to Grand Canyon and there was a fire near by that rendered the canyons full of Smokey Haze. I played around with photos but was not satisfied and the photos didn't pop. Came across this video and BOOM, what did I do. I love the results. Now I have Light, Shadows and Curves (Canyon), exactly as I had envisioned When I shot the scene. Thanks Again.

      Thanks for the nice comments about my voice. I found I couldn’t do the usual fast paced excitement most channels use. It’s just not me. I love that this technique worked so well for you. It’s actually part of a longer workflow but it does work well a lot of the time on its own. I hope you have more successes with it in the future.

    Robin - just come across your channel for the first time. What a find! Love your explanations and the non-hype approach. If I may offer some input, I like the click of your mouse but find it very loud. Anyway you can lower the volume of the click?

    • @RobinWhalley
      @RobinWhalley  5 років тому +1

      Pleased you like it. Sorry about the mouse click. The volume was increased along with the adding the graphic to show the click as a result of feedback from a few people. I have the same issue with the cursor and magnifying glass. Whatever I try I always have people asking for something different. I will see if I can find a happy compromise for future videos.

    I downloaded the free trial to assess whether I want to drop $150 on it but the full separate brightness, contrast and structure are not there. Do I have to buy the program to get them? It said all features were unlocked.

    • @RobinWhalley
      @RobinWhalley  4 роки тому

      No, they will be in the version you downloaded. When you first install and use the software the additional sliders are hidden. If you look to the left of the title (Brightness, Contrast etc) you will see a small triangular arrow. If you click this it will expand the area to show the other sliders.

If you don't, please email me using the Contact form on Lenscraft so I can do a manual reset (lenscraft.co.uk/contact-form/). As for the book, yes my intention is to make it available to everyone who purchased it previously but this does depend on Amazon - you may recall the problems some people had with the Viveza book. Easy to over due these edits. It’s ok to lose things in the blackness. It adds drama and power. I see a lot of folks pull their shadows into the black but then pull them back up to get details again. A shame really.
    Check Sir Don Mccullin’s landscapes for example that are shot on film. Incredible power and dark dark shadows.
