Your videos and information have opened my mind to a different approach to diabetes. I'm a family doctor in Mexico, who loves preventive medicine. It's a big challenge to convince people to switch to a more plant based diet because of our culture and honestly, poor nutritional and health education. I'm not diabetic but it runs in my family, so I try to eat a lot more plants and whole foods, almost quit dairy, and my skin is so much better (had acne), I maintain my ideal weight, my gut issues are practically gone, I have energy. You can really feel improvement in your body and your life. Thank you for sharing this information! And congratulations on your success.

He stressed reduction of fats in cells (reason for insulin resistance) before increasing carbs intake. He also emphasized the good short term but BAD long term effects of keto diets (he himself learnt it the hard way). It's so easy and common to be SHORT sighted!

Much relief after going through this stuff ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx-ip-9JdKgYMhubLnEjt3OXJkFyS4D2Jd Stress no doubt affects my blood sugar levels. Taking a walk usually helps bring them down. Eating sweets is not my favorite, but if i take a large portion of them, my blood sugar level rises high. I think it's the high concentration of the glucose flowing into the bloodstream all at once. This is a lesson worth taking note of. This is a great material to learn from.

As a Type 1 diabetic I can testify that he is absolutely correct. Fat causes insulin resistance. Any diabetic should eat a low fat, high carb, whole food, plant based diet.
I did a low carb higher fat diet for years and I did have stable blood sugar. But anytime I ate any form of carbohydrate my blood sugar was uncontrollable. NOW I eat tons of fruit, potatoes, whole grains, beans and veggies. My blood sugar is stable, predictable and in a normal range. I have incredible energy and feel amazing.
If you have diabetes do yourself a favor and eat a whole food, plant based, low fat diet. Your body will thank you.

I do eat proteins, veggies and fats like butter & olive oil. My fasting glucose went from 100 where it had been for years to 73 in just one month. HDL increased, LDL did not. And I lost 12 lbs. High carb might work for some, but not for anyone I know.

I'm newly T2D diagnosed and I check my sugar after every meal, recording what I eat carefully. Carbs of any kind will send my glucose soaring and this is something you didn't address in the video. I'm leery of going months with elevated glucose just to find out what happens to my insulin resistance. I'll buy the plant-based diet but it's difficult to go along with the "high carb" part (potatoes, corn) or the fruit part (mangoes, oranges). I have to trust my BGM readings and anything that sends them up doesn't make any sense to me.

you need to rewatch the video. specifically where he discusses fat competing with sugars for uptake into the muscle.
I'm just 2 months into a high carb diet. my only stipulations are that i eat less than 20g of fat per day, and drink plenty of water. I'm down 6lbs, eating crazy amounts of fruit and sugar. My typical mid afternoon energy crash is a thing of the past, and i sleep like a rock.
I'll repeat: you must keep fat below 20g per day, and you will not get blood sugar spiles.

If I synthesize the findings of the Low Fat and High Fat groups, it all boils down to 2 rules:
Rule 1: Eat natural foods and avoid processed ingredient sources at all costs, such as grain-fed animal products, seed oils, and processed carbohydrates.
Rule 2: Get your calories from one or the other source, either limit Carbohydrates to less than 15%, or limit Fat to less than 15%.
There's still a lot we don't know about how gut bacteria affects this, but I see a trend.

  • @sparky4785

Everyone should know that by changing your food intake composition to a high fat, low carb ratio alone does not cause fat to store anywhere in your body. Fat will store in your body when you eat too many calories no matter the carb:protein:fat ratio. So don't think that going high carb, low fat (Opposite to what most doctors recommend) will magically reverse insulin resistance because what Cyrus doesn't say in the video is that all of these listed problems would only occur when you're eating in excess (too many fats and too many carbs as a whole). The same problems can happen with a high carb diet. Solution: Don't eat too much calories. So please do more research and you can find your own conclusion.

Hmmm. I’m trying to puzzle this out. The argument here is that fat storage in muscles and liver cause insulin resistance. His demonstration shows how fatty cells tell insulin receptors to stop taking up insulin and glucose hence high levels in blood. Then he claims that eating the fat caused the fatty cells to begin with. I think that’s actually attributing a symptom rather than a cause here. Insulin is a fat storage hormone. Hyperinsulinemia, high insulin, is driven by glucose not fat. That’s why folks can have high insulin levels years before your metabolism breaks down and shows altered blood glucose level as in pre-diabetes and diabetes. That’s why folks can maintain a normal weight with high insulin levels but once you’ve reached a tipping point where you’ve damaged your pancreas through years of eating high carbs, your blood sugar spikes and you become fat. It would have been helpful if he referenced all the long term studies he was referring to regarding long term low-carb harm. Not seeing those. Often the “low carb” studies are not actually low carb. The study he showed did not address how many carbs were being taken so hard to tell the true results. He also doesn’t address leptins, oxalates and deficiencies like B-12 associated with nonmeat diets. Keto diets have been shown to clear nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, inflammatory processes and most of the issues he showed in the slide of ailments. So, I’m not entirely convinced.

    • @Mallchad
      @Mallchad 7 місяців тому

You roughly collect but the hormonal effect of fat storage is more than a theory than something easily provable.
Yes he is partially correct that the body can stop responding to the effect of insulin but that explanation is complete nonsense. What actually happens is your cells take up the insulin and then downregulate the receptor so the update does less and less until it refuses to accept any more fats and triglycerides. If you eliminate most of either fat or carbohydrates the burden on cell uptake is lessened and it is easier to significantly remove glucose from the body
However your body needs fat and fat soluble vitamins so removing fat is completely unacceptable. Your body has no requirement for glucose it is a simple molecule and easy to make from many sources.
One noteworthy thing is that high insulin is consistently associated with an apetetite that cannot stop eating and is never truly full. But nobody knows really why. Additionally my impresion is that both glucose and fat have active transporters in the gut that actively _choose_ when to absorb fat and sugar or not. Which is interesting. We do not know much about how this is regulated but I would speculate that the body might preferentially absorb glucose- partially because it is known to have catastrophic affects on bacterial overgrowth in general in low enough concentrations

Rosa Antonetti Both methods work. Chk out Denise Minger's video on why both Keto & WFPB work. And mind u she's a Paleo advocate who was a former Vegan. The trick is to keep the opposite macronutrient low, really low. In otherwords if u go Keto then keep refined starchy carbs to 5% - 10% or less. If u go WFPB you gotta keep Fat intake to less than 15%. There are other lifestyle considerations of course like sleep, exercise, stress etc..... Keeping refined sugar, in any form, out of the diet is crucial, particularly in the early stages.

This is an awakening and game changer, basically the insulin signaling is effected by the lipid droplets in the cell. Being overweight with a high amount of visceral fat can cause the same issue. Visceral fat excretes lots of fatty acids and other toxic chemicals that is no different than consuming lots of fatty foods, weight loss is very important.

After following an ADA diet for years with no appreciable change and after seeing "Forks Over knives", I tried out the diet you guys also recommend, and that was the fix! I had been getting calls and emails from ADA for years asking for donations to help cure diabetes, so I had to post my success with this way of eating to the ADA forum! I expected some serious skepticism, but instead what I got was attacked and called all kinds of ugly names by far too many replies! It was so far overboard it made me wonder if there was a force in place with a protected agenda...after all, who would "donate" to the cure if there actually already was a cure! After seeing the interview with the ADA official in "What the Health", it pretty much clinched my suspicions. It really opened my eyes to all these supposed "health" agencies who are sponsored by the processed, fast food, meat and dairy industries! Revolting that it goes on unabated and most people are not ever aware of it! Thanks for all you do, you are true heroes!

This morning it was 94/61. I tried going carb low fat and it nearly metabolically destroyed me. Now I need no medications or suppliments and all health markers are amazing. Good markers can be acheived especially when young with a veggie diet but it will not sustain the body as we get older. Not enough quantity or quality of protien, and replaceing fat with toxic sugars for energy requiremenrs will bring on a long term health failure. That was an excellent visual model of how insulin works in the cells! I have known for awhile that there was a problem with the insulin getting glucose into the cells, but I never learned (or was taught by any doctor/nurse/medical professional) that the REASON the insulin receptors won't allow the insulin to let the glucose in (insulin resistance) is because of too much FAT in the cells! Thank you SO MUCH! On 9/14/2020 you taught me one of the most valuable lessons about insulin ever!! From a scientific standpoint, it just makes SENSE not to eat too much fat (instead of people saying "don't eat this, don't eat that"). Amazing! Thank you so much!!!

Last year I followed Dr. Eric Berg's "healthy keto" and it worked well. I lost weight and had more energy. But I didn't end up sticking with the diet and gained the weight back. I was getting ready to start the keto diet again and then I came across this video.

These two young men need to take insulin to survive for the rest of their lives. One of them has his PhD in Molecular Biochemistry. This isn't a fad or scam for them. It's a life or death scenario. I would at least listen to what they have found what works for them before dismissing it out of hand as some comments below have. It might save your life or the life of a loved one.
Just eat REAL FOOD, people. Food that our great-grandparents would recognize as food. Food as grown, in its natural form. Fruits, vegetables, legumes (beans), whole grains, nuts and seeds. Oatmeal, brown rice, barley, quinoa, beans - white, black, pinto, kidney, garbanzo, sweet potatoes, cauliflower, potatoes, broccoli, carrots, cabbage, peas, almonds, walnuts, chia seeds, flax seeds, etc, etc. Nothing in a box with questionable or unrecognizable ingredients or any kind of fast food. Just cook simply; boil, steam, bake, or eat a lot raw. A green salad a day. A serving of beans. Some fruit. Eat enough to be satisfied. Find some good condiments to put on your food to make it tasty. Avoid artificial sweeteners like aspartame and sucralose. Find some sort of exercise that you like, even walking and do it regularly. The answer is so simple it's criminal. We humans no longer know how to eat for our species. Our taste buds have been exploited by the fast food industry for pure profit. We eat fake food full of sugar, salt, oil and preservatives and it's killing us.

Hi Cyrus. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes as at 5 May 22 and as of that date I made a commitment to try, as best as I could, to get back to normal. I searched the internet and you tube and was somewhat disappointed with what I found. That is, until I came across this site. And because of my background I loved the evidenced based approach. Let me provide you with my lab numbers just to demonstrate my journey with some hard evidence. As at 5 May 22, my pathology readings were as follows: Fast Glucose 12.0 (mmol/L) ; Trig/HDL 0.74; Chol/ HDL 4.4; and HbA1c 11.1. I followed your approach rigorously including at least 1 hour walking per day. Twelve months later, as at 18 April 23, there was an amazing transformation as shown: Fast Glucose 5.2 (mmol/L), Trig/HGL 0.5; Chol / HDL 3.3, and HbA1c 5.5. My doctor was amazed and in his words "Just Astonishing". Let my add some added drama to the exercise. As at 5 May 22, that dreaded complication arose, my doctor said that I was at Stage 2 CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) and he told me there was no cure and it would be downhill as of that date with only three outcomes: , manage the decline (which was inevitable), dialysis and death. At 70 years of age I was not fearful of death but I was not happy in relation to the quality of life. Here are the relevant pathology numbers related to my CKD, as at 5 May 22: eGFR 75, R-U-Creatinine 7.6 (mmol/L) , R-U-Albumin 35, (mg/L) and Alb / Creat Ratio 4.6 (mg/mmol) . It was all gloom and doom. Twelve months later, again an amazing transformation: eGFR 93, R-U-Creatinine 5.8: R-U-Albumin 10: Alb / Creat ratio 1.7 (mg/mmol). My doctor was amazed at the significant change and my kidneys were functioning in the normal range. As shown above there was nothing anecdotal in my testimony and it was all evidenced based. I hate to use capital letters but the turn around was truly ASTOUNDING. I decided to give myself a treat and had a nice coffee with a blueberry muffin! Oh the sweet pleasure of life, so many treasures abound, some lost and new ones found, and all accepted with small thankful gratitudes. Cyrus thank you very much for some really useful and evidenced based material. I hope others also benefit from your material.

First I want to say I am in my second year of living with type 2 diabetes after ending up in ICU in a coma for a week with my blood sugar at 1500 when admitted. I took 10 units Levemir insulin (twice a day), 1000mg Metfomin (twice a day), 5mg Glipizide (twice a day) and ate absolutely no sugars, no grains and no starches during this last year and was totally unable to get my blood sugar in control. On a daily basis my blood glucose would swing anywhere from 130 to 500. My Dr. called me a brittle diabetic - never quite understood his meaning. I found this on UA-cam and decided to give it a try. I started on just trying it one day a week - what my wife calls it, "meatless Monday's" but also dis-allowing other foods high in saturated fats like cheeses, fried foods as well as my normal above diet. Within my 1st month my swings started getting much less extreme. On the second month we included Tuesday's and so on. I am now at the end of my 3rd month and Monday thru Wednesday eating nothing but whole foods on those days with absolutely no meats, saturated fats, etc. Conclusion my 30 day blood glucose average is now 140 - lowest ever average for me. I snack on fruit like it is going out of style - I even ate a small bowl of watermelon last night after dinner and my next morning glucose reading was 128. I want to thank you guys so much for sharing this video - it has really brought hope to me and yes I am going to continue adding another day of eating plant based meals and snacks each and every month - thanks again

I met Dr. Cyrus Khambatta at a wedding years ago. At that time I was on a high-fat paleo diet doing lots of butter/coconut oil coffee and such, and thought I was eating an “optimal” diet from every book I’d read. I didn’t feel great, but I figured I just hadn’t been doing it long enough. When we started talking at the wedding, I asked Cyrus what he did. He explained how he was using nutrition to help diabetics have massive improvements in their health. “Oh, so you’re probably feeding them low carb?” I say. “Nope. Lots of fruit. Basically no fat” he replies confidently. I was trying to be polite, so I said something like, “uhh, ok, nice to meet you.” Thinking in my head, this guy is nuts and clearly misinformed. But being a geek for nutrition and biology, I talk to him more at the wedding reception, and he explained exactly how he repeated experiments during his PhD at Berkeley over and over and over again that showed that the very low fat test groups were the healthiest. I walked away from that wedding eating tons of fruit and roughly following the 80/10/10 diet (which he recommended), and have never before touched the degree of health I’ve had since meeting him. I was never diabetic, but since talking to him I’ve gone off of antidepressants and thyroid medication. This way if eating doesn’t just help insulin resistance, eating very low fat raw fruits and vegetables seems to be able to improve or cure almost any health challenge or disease. Since then I’ve also found the Medical Medium books, which echoed exactly the same things Cyrus found in his research. My health and energy are shockingly good, and getting even better daily.

I found this site because 16 years ago followed 'The Mucousless Diet Healing System' and felt so wonderful on this diet I wanted to get back to that energy and started researching. So in January I started the whole food plant based approach. Didn't eliminate all the oil I should have until about 4 months ago. At 73 I have no problem with energy (I can work a 12hr day with no ill effects) and my total cholesterol dropped from 256 to 150. My ALT and AST dropped from 33 to 29 and 26 respectfully ... so I am on my way. I have a wonderful appetite, eat what I want from the plant kingdom and dropped 10 more pounds this past summer. I didn't need to lose weight, it just came off. Depression gone, energy way up, attitude wonderful and I love eating all the foods I restricted myself from for so many years. I think Dr. Fung's fasting method makes a lot of sense for helping to reverse insulin resistance but I also agree with the plant-based diet because, as this video illustrates, the main cause of insulin resistance is too much fat in the cells. Low carb diets work in the short term because you're lowering your glucose and insulin production but that doesn't solve the root problem. Not to mention the health issues associated with high saturated fats and animal products. IMO, the goal is to get insulin to do it's job so your body can process carbs and sugar normally.

I did a ketogenic diet for 2 years (No cheating whatsoever, no more than 25 grams of carbs a day) because I had a horrible case of reactive hypoglycemia / post-prandial syndrome (From insulin resistance). It worked in the beginning but by the end of the 2 year mark it made my insulin resistance and hypoglycemia out of control...I would literally take one bite of meat and be full blown hypo within a 30 seconds.
As a last resort I tried a high-carb low-fat plant based diet like Cyrus is showing here (I had to stick to just fruits and veggies at first though because starches would make me hypo) and I was having no more hypos after 4 days, that was 10 months ago and my reactive hypoglycemia is completely gone.
I'm also becoming more insulin sensitive from this diet because now I can eat potatoes and I'm totally fine, no adrenaline release at all. If you're trying to decide weather to go keto or high-carb low-fat plant based because you have diabetes or pre-diabetes, or just for health in general, take it from someone who's been on both sides of the fence...The high-carb low-fat plant based diet is what works!
The dirty little secret that the low-carb keto "experts" won't tell you is that low-carb diets actually increase insulin resistance over time because your adrenaline is higher than your insulin, and you body becomes physiologically insulin resistant as a defense mechanism. I had to learn the hard way, but thanks to Dr. Morse and Cyrus and Robbie I have my life back.

Well, actually it's not just fat, but specifically, seed oils: Corn, soy, canola, vegetable oils they're all man mane oils that are highly processed and toxic. Sad part is they are in all boxed, canned, processed foods people eat. Restaurants cook with it, so it's very difficult to stay away from it. To say that insulin resistance is caused by fats is inaccurate and misleading. More accurate is oils, and fats that are high in omega-6, which does not occur naturally in high doses in animal fats or butter.

There are many pathologies to disease. Pushing a low fat plant based diet is the same as pushing a low carb... teach people how to listen to their bodies, to find balance, to listen to the whispers of inflammation, to analyze their digestion’s, teach people how to use a 20$ glucometer for goodness sake instead of pushing a one sided way of eating. Look at all the ex-vegetarians and ex-vegans.... clearly you can also promote inflammation on a WFPB diet. THINK people stop listening to a one size fits all anything !!

There's a lot to take in here. I was diagnosed with type 2 two years ago with an A1C of 8.3. I was stunned and angry at myself. I am a medical professional so I was familiar with some of things that I needed to do. In researching I found that there were some so called remedies that were wide ranged. I decided to not go on meds and to restrict myself immediately. After one week my morning glucose was between 95-113. This was with an extremely low amount of carbs. Over time that did improve and I started to walk more and bike some. Long story short my A1C dropped to 5.9 with eating low carbs. One thing that I found that I just can't seem to grasp is when I did eat carbs again initially I would always lose weight. I'd check my sugar and it hovered around 95-108. I kept saying to myself something is going on that I don't understand. One site will tell you very low carbs, another you can eat high carbs. One will say restrict carbs and it'll reverse IS and another will say it's simply the fat. I am someone that has a great deal of will power when it comes to attempting to heal myself through diet. When I restricted carbs for at least a year honestly yes I could tell that my sensitivity had improved, but not to the point where I felt I could eat what I wanted and see it go back to normal in 2 hours or so so I thought does anyone know what they're talking about? When I listened to this video honestly it's definitely with skepticism because I'm not easily convinced. Honestly I also wanted this to be true because I love fruit and have not eaten much for years now. I hear professionals say too much animal fat is bad and that one there has been my problem. I don't eat red meat or pork, but I do eat more than my share of meat. I'm seeing opposing views in the comment section here naturally, but what I need to see is what happened when they started to eat carbs. What was their morning glucose like and what was their glucoses after high carb meals? It's showing that it improves, but not showing what to expect in the interim. This need to be accompanied by how long it took to come down and what to expect along the way.

I think there are 2 ways that work - keto is burning fat for fuel & there is a heck of a lot of evidence that it is a natural capacity of human body. But eating vegan, whole foods, whether raw/fruitarian or cooked whole foods - no refined foods (either diet, refined carbs are bad, bad - they are fundamentally sugar without fiber) works also. Human body adapted to either mode & can change as required - perhaps because of seasons & what is available. The fat thing is troubling to me - (vegan) keto works for me, burning fat as fuel. Eating whole foods - raw or cooked combo, fruit, etc also works. But I am suspicious that low fat is not optimal. Obviously some people do great on it, but I’ve met enough people who do not that I am cautious. Dr. Michael Greger now saying that, say, salads without fat are shown to mean almost no absorbency of nutrients - salad with fats/oils make absorbency of nutrients skyrocket. And we all know there are certain nutrients are fat soluble.

Low carb or keto DOES control blood sugar and A1C, as he mentions when he says low carb diets do work. However, this approach fundamentally addresses the symptoms, i.e. the problem of glucose that is “stuck” outside your cells in the blood, because you have for the most part stopped sending sugar into the blood in the first place through diet. However, what he is saying is that if you address the insulin resistance itself by cutting fat, your body will be able to handle healthy carbs on its own (he isn’t talking about processed or junk foods obviously). The main concerns he and others mention about low carb, high fat high protein diets are that diets high in saturated fat tend to drive high blood cholesterol and heart disease risk, and high protein diets tend to drive up growth hormones such as IGF-1 that increase he risk of some types of cancer.

I spent 8 years trying to reverse my diabetes on low carb high fat. In the end, my insulin resistance became so bad no amount of insulin would get my blood sugar down to anywhere near normal. It was very frightening. I realised increasing the insulin was not the answer. Low carb had only ever ‘managed’ the diabetes by keeping the sugar intake to a minimum. I knew I needed to do something radical. Within 6 weeks on high carb low fat I had to drop my insulin requirement to less than half (50+ units to 20-25 units per day). In just 2 months I have lost a stone in weight. My energy levels, which have always been very low, are slowly starting to improve. I am excited to see what happens over time......

Also, fat cells produce insulin so losing weight is important. Insulin is a fat storage hormone; minimize it.

I think that if you have a lot of fat floating around your system and you go straight to low fat high carb diet, then the body won't burn off that fat very quickly. It will remain in the system and so although you're not adding extra fat to the system, it takes a while for that fat to be used up. It will be used up faster that when you're combining fat with carbs (because insulin will be lower), but it will still be relatively slow because by eating any carbs you will have insulin in the system (which slows down fat burning).
Having said that, a low carb high fat diet allows the body to utilise fats very easily. But aren't you just adding more fat with this method? Yes, but if your calorie intake is lower (because fat is so satiating) then the body will burn off the excess fat floating around in your system (because it's used to burning fat for fuel now because of a lack of insulin).
So it is just one strategy, but I think it is an option to go low carb high fat for a while until the fat in your body is being burned off, and then switch to a high carb low fat diet which you'll be ready for it because there won't be as much fat in the system to stop carbs being utilised.
I know it sounds a bit odd to say you'll have less fat in your system on a high fat diet, but it makes sense to me at least. A high fat diet in a calorie deficit will allow excess fat to be burned for energy. Once excess fat has been used up, a low fat diet can be brought in as those carbs can be utilised.
I appreciate both sides of these arguments, but ultimately I do think that we are supposed to eat carb foods because of all the nutritional value. I just think that a low carb (even ideally a carnivore) approach, can get us to that place where we can eat carbs again without ill effects. Of course many people just want to be one way or the other and become dogmatic about things. Listen and learn and then use a strategy that works for you. Thanks.

These men are Type 1 diabetics, meaning their bodies do not produce enough insulin, if they did not take insulin, they would not be able to keep weight on and would waste away and die. There is no shame in a Type 1 diabetic taking insulin, they can regulate their weight by how much insulin they take. If for some reason you wanted to take less insulin as a Type 1 diabetic, you would have to eat a high carb diet in order to keep your insulin levels high so you could maintain a healthy weight because carbs spike your insulin. This is why carbs as a primary energy source for a Type 1 diabetic works for them. Type 2 diabetics have too much insulin which often leads to insulin resistance. This is why they gain weight and then its hard for them to take the weight off. They must lower their insulin levels and make their bodies use fat as their primary energy source. This is why a low carb diet works for Type 2 diabetics. Now we must differentiate the carbs. There are bad carbs and good carbs. Bad carbs are breads, pasta, starchy vegetables, etc. Good carbs are vegetables, fruits, beans etc. Bad carbs should be avoided as much as possible by everyone regardless if they have diabetes or not but type 1 diabetics can eat everything (good carbs and bad carbs) in moderation and depending on how much insulin they are taking maintain a healthy weight. Type 2 diabetics should really cut out as much bad carbs as possible and eat everything else in moderation, especially fruit in moderation because its high in sugar which also spikes insulin. Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes are opposites of eachother and trying to treat them both with the same diet will not work.

I think you should edit and specify which fruits, vegs, bean types (Peas Green Pinto refried black) etc are good and bad. thanks give an example of a smoothy

Also to point out for type 2 folks. Make sure you’re eating the right fruits. Stay away from things like grapes due to the fact they have very little fibre. This spike sugar and insulin quickly. Fruits like apples and watermelon have a lot of fibre and there for have very low glycemic loads. Knowing the difference between glycemic index and load is very important to what one can eat.

So now it's high carb, low fat diet is the solution? Oh man! We need 2 groups those who eat like this and the Paleo type folks and see who got better results because this has gotten way too confusing.

Jeremy S. Whole foods are the answer, not too much as if you eat whole foods you will not need large meals anyhow. Its all the processing that causes the health issues.

you can think this way, if something you are eating causing harm to nature then don't eat that. It's as simple as that, if it nourishes the nature go ahead and eat that blindly.
For ex. Sugar is refined , causes so much load on environment for processing, packing, bla bla. Sugarcane is not ,eat what nature provides it has inbuilt fiber, minerals, nutrients for your body.
Eating animals is also going to cause global warming, eat vegetables, fruits, whole grains go low fat because our bodies are made to eat that way. Nature has told us to eat this way, don't kill animals they have the right to live.

Jeremy S. The magic occurs at the extremes. Follow this kind of diet, extremely low fat, or go to the opposite extreme and eat high fat keto type diet. The problem is in the middle with eating a balance of everything, believe it or not. Carbs and fat do not mix well.

I can attest to this. I have Type 1 Diabetes. When I removed meat and animal fats from my diet, my sensitivity increased to the point where when I took my normal amount of insulin to cover my carbs, my blood sugar dropped hard and fast. I loved not taking as much insulin but it was hard to maintain because I don't have a doctor that understands. Without support, I fell short and went back to my old way of eating for my DM1. I will try again to get back to plant-based eating, but I will need to find a new doctor. This is very informative and should be looked at further to better help those with Diabetes.

Keto works well for me. High carb works well for my sister. In the end you have to figure out what works for your body.

      both of them will work.
do not mix protein with carbs..
you just eat the one food..
the same as you and your sister are doing..

Keto only lowers blood sugar because fat doesn't spike insulin. Whole Food Plant-Based allows the fat to come out of the Pancreas and people with T2D get healed.

Whole Food Plant-Based is superior, technically, it is superior. People who won't eat vegetables and fruit and beans and grains probably have to go Keto, but Whole Food Plant-Based is superior.

@Snake Plissken I am Whole Food Plant-Based and there are organic, non-GMO grains everywhere. The Global Burden of Disease Study put not eating grains in the top 4 causes of disease and people in the Blue Zones who outlive everybody eat a lot of grains.

@Snake Plissken But it is WHOLE grains, NOT refined grains. I was reading a heart study yesterday and WHOLE grains improved people's heart functions and refined grains made them worse. So maybe we HALF agree.

Everyone is different, chose what works best for you. I went the keto route after years of uncontrolled a1c. Within a week my blood sugar was down to 119 and 0 insulin and down to 500mg of metformin (from 2000mg)

Every human as red blood cell and you do not think so 🤔 red blood cells can not run on ketones body's but only run on glucose. Red blood cell carry rich nutrients like iron and oxygen not for the heart to to move and have a regular heartbeat in the long term.
