This is GOLD. If you want to understand insulin resistance, Cyrus's explanation at 19:21 (Myth 3: Fruit spikes your blood sugar) is the best I've heard so far. I once was eating sticks of butter a day, afraid of fruit and getting sicker by the day, and now I'm happy, fit, and eat fruit all day! The Mastering Diabetes content and book gave me confirmation and understanding along the way. Thanks guys!

Cyrus, another great video. I just want to comment on nutrient dense carbs. Being a very busy guy, business and soccer coach, I was expecting the supposedly high quality FDA tested multivitamins with super antioxidants I was taking would compensate for my lack of sit down meals. A company came around and tested my antioxidant levels after 3 years on these supplements, I was expending to test in the very high range. I was shocked that I tested in the very low range!! I stopped taking the supplements and started eating real fruit and veggies, 1 and a half years later, I was tested again, this time I was in the very high range. I love you comment Natural Carbohydrate-Rich Foods, you sure are not going to get them from pills!!!

I absolutely agree. I quickly became underweight and lost muscle tone on keto. I felt amazing doing IF but a clean keto diet got very boring and the fats necessary to stay in ketosis (coconut oil, butter, olive oil) killed my appetite. I think eating lower carb is healthy, as in don't gorge on bread, cereals, soda and junk. I'll use carbs more like a garnish or side, like just enough chips for nachos to have texture but it's mainly avocado, onion, cilantro, and cheese. Fruits are amazing. I healed a venous stasis ulcer after 2.5 yrs of no progress by eating oranges and mandarins daily for 2 weeks. The bioflavinoids hesperidin, rutin, vit C, plus other antioxidants and compounds,, work wonders on circulation and tissue regeneration. Also, eating 30 plants a week is proven to optimize our critical gut microbiome or "2nd brain".

However my glucose will come right back down, and I do feel better with a touch of energy with a good healthy feeling after the Apple or any fruit. I do take it easy with Pineapple, Banana and Mangos, just because these fruits spike my Glucose for a longer period of time. Results of Fruit verses Sugar - No headaches. This man’s advice is absolutely correct. Watch Denise Minger’s synopsis of the research in UA-cam video called “In defence of low fat”. I tried it. It actually works…really well! The carbs are used perfectly in a low fat diet. It’s the fat that screws up our metabolism. So eat lots of fruit. It’s extremely good for you. It’s alive afterall.

Ha ha I was of the pure keto attedute as well ,until I watched Dennis pollock and discovered that low carb food etc keto food is not the total answear. I ate today mixed grain full began bread 2 slices with my eggs and lamb chops. But the secret I have found is to do with 2 things, first you must consume some fibire eg cabbage broccoli b4 you consume your carbs. Then if you go for a good 20 min walk or as I do e bike right for 5 KS then you get a fantastic result. It's all about the blood sugar spike, you still have to be careful but you can freaking live not have to just eat meat and fat. When I eat some good carbs my body responds and I get back a bit of strength. I have also found its not about just calories ,yes of course you have to be careful but it's about our blood sugar spike. When I did these things and tested my sugars after 1 hour then 3 I got 6.8 then 4.8 and was truly amazed.

My family didn’t have history of diabetes. My younger brother ate too much fruits that caused him to have type 2 diabetes fruits that such as bananas, oranges, watermelon, sugar apple ranbutan, mango and many more Asian exotic fruits because he got a idea that fruits are good for the body but the blood test shown different .He never drink, never smoke, and never go out at night he exercises 4-5 times a week and sleeps 7-9 hours a day. He eats vegetables and fish most of the days. He got diabetes because consumed too much fructoses and that glucose converter into fructose caused insulin resistant. The main driver that causes chronic diseases today is fructose. All sugar turn into fructose inside the body and causes damaging to the body organs.

That is also my understanding. It is fructose that causes fatty liver disease . Yes glucose converts to fructose. Cyrus says it is the fat that causes insulin resistance. It is the fat created by fructose. Fructose is only present in fruits or processed foods like sugar etc. yes there is fiber in fruit.

Before making anymore claims they should get together , sort through the data , run experiments , have private discourse . If. Every has a different health profile and differing metabolisms. Sometimes for certain women for certain periods of time eating just butter can be exactly what they need. Everyone demanding that everyone do exactly what they do and what’s good for THEM is insane. It’s like the typical primitive warring that goes on forever and so violently between people of different religions- which is insane also and stupid. We don’t demand everyone eat their eggs like we do and we often change how we eat them. Why can’t we live more like that.

My understanding from listening to many of your videos and reading Mastering Diabetes is that it's really about getting the intramyocellular and intrahepatocyte lipid levels down (fat in skeletal muscle cells and liver cells), which causes the lion's share of the insulin resistance. This could take some time when following the mastering diabetes guidelines depending on many factors such as age, degree of obesity, degree of hormonal dysregulation, genetics, etc. Until intracellular lipid levels start to normalize, blood sugar can indeed spike with higher glycemic fruits, aka very ripe bananas, and starches but that will normalize quickly if one stays on the protocol. This is my understanding of that issue.

Dr. Ken Berry, MD, has a channel and he is a very strong proponent of the keto diet, and he himself has gone 100% carnivore. He feeds his child bacon as a snack and has nothing good to say about fruits/vegetables. He is very convincing and after watching a few of his videos I decided to try keto, not for weight loss but simply to start eating healthier and improve overall health factors. After two months of off and on constipation along with frequent night time foot/ankle/calf cramps I quit the diet and have gone plant based whole food. I no longer have late night cramps and am VERY regular now. I attribute my former cramping to inadequate intake of potassium and other electrolytes/minerals while doing keto. Another popular youtube influencer is a doctor who has similar keto message and encourages her patients to go all in on keto, with her favorite food item being a can of sardines regularly....Dr. Annette Bosworth, MD.

I’m type 2 diabetic. Eating most fruits spike my glucose. I also had non-alcoholic fatty liver. Fruits contain fructose. Only the liver can process it and fructose contributes to fatty liver. I quit eating fruit and carbs and reversed my fatty liver and my type 2. Carnivore diet will give you diahrea at first for a few weeks as your body purges. Then that stops and you won’t have to go as much. Your body will use most of the food you eat and there won’t be as much waste not eating fiber you can’t digest. I got constipated once and learned that i needed to eat more fat. Fat is good for you. Carnivore made me feel awesome. I love fruit but now i avoid it.

I have watched a lot of videos focusing on 3 different diets - 1) Vegetarian 2) Keto 3) Mediterranean. They will all work for a healthy way of living as long as you do them correctly. The most important thing they have in common is that they all agree is that you should stay away from refined foods and there are a lot of them, it's insanity! I believe anyone who wants to correct their diet and to live a healthy life style should look at all of their options of the 3. Learn about each one and decide for yourself which one would be the best option for you.

For years, I dedicated myself to competitive crossfitting, initially embracing the Paleo diet before transitioning to the ketogenic diet as a strategy to address my non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. However, I found myself uncomfortable with the heavy reliance on animal products that the keto diet demands. In search of a healthier lifestyle that aligned more with my values, I eventually switched to a vegan diet over the past year. Reflecting on this transition, I realize that my keto-influenced habits led me to over-rely on coconut milk, oils, and nuts in my vegan diet. This approach seemed logical at the time, given my background in keto, but I now see the need to reassess and balance my dietary choices more carefully.
This might explain why I can never lose weight on the vegan diet.
I recently came across your channel, and maybe I might have to adjust my pallet, but I’m excited to give it a go. What you say makes a lot of sense. And I feel like modern day quack science, lacks a lot of common sense.

Humans evolved as omnivores. Not carnivore, not vegan, but a variety of everything. Some of the worst nutritional advice I've ever received for my daughter's gerd came from a UCSF nutritional dr who's one of the best in the area. She was pushing gmo soy formula protein drinks with a crazy amount of ingredients in the label. This is an excellent episode, Thank you very much! For the past 11 years I’ve been a t2d and have been eating a fruit salad every morning for the same amount of time. If I don’t know what to eat for lunch, I eat an apple. Five years ago I decided to lose some weight so I called my friend who is vegan and got some tips from her, I’ve since lost 23 lbs. it didn’t take the whole 5 yrs but the weight have stayed off since then. I still crave seafood & I will eat some now and again, but i get back on track eating a whole food plant based diet. Here in Hawaii, growing fruits and vegetables is an all year round activity, so there’s always something to eat.
By the way, my blood glucose stays 100 or in the 90s when I check it in the morning, I do take met metformin but I’m slowly whining myself off of it. I get bloodwork done so that I can check my numbers. I need to know where I am as far as my health is concerned. So much to work on.

Add a bit of salt remove and pan fry with onions . Lovely to eat on its own or added to stews and you make hummus out of it by blending with garlic olive oil and salt. Spread hummus on Ezekiel bread ( sprouted grains bread )
There’s all types of coloured rice. Red , black , purple. Eat variety. Don’t just stick to one type of grain. You can make sushi out if cooked coloured rice ( fibre rich with lots of nutrients ) roll it in seaweed. Put cucumbers and carrots as the filling. Add your seasonings that you like.
The variety of whole grain whole foods is endless. Green veg are super. Containing stuff necessary for T2D
My blood sugar is steadily levelling itself as I’m on food whole grain diet. Wish you the best.

So are you saying that carbs are better for me than protein?
    Also
Are you saying sugar spikes from any source is ok because that’s the bodies natural response but have some insulin resistance? I was led to believe that spikes are what is bad about food. Say glucose pre dinner is 105, you eat and 1 hour later glucose is now 240. Pancreas is going to produce insulin and then the glucose will drop down significantly and may even drop it below 70. Is that ok?
Just trying to better understand what you are saying from what I have learned. Or should say relearned. Been a nurse for 21 years. So knowledge has changed couple times during that time frame. I grew with food pyramid system which I know killed many of good people.
