      You never know corvette has been known to low ball there prices and give us reasable prices for high end vehicle's. I remember when the newest 2014 and up silohuout of the stingray came out we were all amazed we could buy a crazy looking sports car that could compare on looks to the viper. For half the price of a viper. Im guessing 60k is reasonable theyre goal is to sell cars not make a car thats gonna sit in a showroom getting dusty like a ford gt. Targeting middle class is better then targeting the rich. Cause youve got poor people like myself that would spend our last penny tryna make payments on a 60-70 grand car.

    My prediction is that Cadillac is going to release a car based on this platform, similarly to how they used to have the XLR on the Corvette platform. I think that is why we are seeing so many different engine configurations, the 4.4L in the Caddy and the 5.5 and 6.2 in the different Corvette models. Cadillac needs a new flagship.

      No you have'nt, your like 12, and you are small, Chevrolet will not allow you to be near it, and it makes no sense due that it's still a spyshot cover-up, only the higher-ups can work on this car. Your daddy does not work for GM and if he does, he is not a higher-up, just a standard employee working at a factory and i highly doubt your daddy helped build this, plus what do you mean "Looks better than the picture" tf? you don't even know what the fucker looks like, get outta here.

    You can get close to 12,700 off on a grand sport and even some Z06's depending on the dealers. Even with that discount they haven't sold many but a few here and there. If this trend continues they may discount the C7 up to 20 grand or more. I've seen one Z06 discounted almost 15 grand, albeit it's a 17 model and it's still on the lot. Let's see what happens. Take care!

    I dont think the front engine vette will depreciate. There are a lot of corvette enthusiasts that dont want the mid-engine version so i think they'll hold their value and maybe even appreciate a little since they are quite possibly the last of a dying breed. Just my thoughts.

    My opinion on the preowned C7’s values when the C8 comes out? It depends on the price of the C8. If they’re priced significantly higher, I think the C7 will hold its value. When the C6 was replaced by the C7, the new car price changed very little, which caused the C6’s to value to fall. But if GM prices the new C8 well above what a normal Corvette buyer can afford, the C7 will hold its market value. I believe we saw this happen with the 6th Gen Camaro was released. Since the Camaro had a significant price increase in 2016, new Camaro sales dropped and 5th Gen Camaro’s held a lot of value in the preowned market. As a current C7 owner, I hope GM prices the C8 at $80,000 plus. If they do, the value of my C7 will hold its value. Only time will tell.

    • @mrpmj00
      @mrpmj00 6 років тому

    • @stevegreer1963
      @stevegreer1963 6 років тому +2

      mrpmj00 That is very accurate! I NEVER buy new. I always let the new car buyer take the huge depreciation hit and buy cars 2 years old. It’s the secret of driving very nice cars without costing a lot of money. I just bought a 2015 Vette with 2,100 miles for 45K, which had an MSRP of 65K thirty-one months ago. Do the math. It cost the original owner almost $20K in new car depreciation. Or, you can look at it as costing the original owner over $9 per mile driven. That’s Crazy!

    • @EK-rr2md
      @EK-rr2md 6 років тому

      Corvettes do not hold value, there are way too many of them. After they are about 4-5 years old their value tends to level off just like most used cars out there. The release of the C8, regardless of price, will not change the depreciation curve.

    • @stevegreer1963
      @stevegreer1963 6 років тому +1

      Erek K I completely disagree. The price of the C8 will have a huge impact on preowned C7 prices. I had a 2013 2SS Camaro that I owned for 3-1/2 years. I bought the car (used) for $27,700 and sold it 42 months later for $25,000. The reason the 5th Gen Camaros held their value so well was due to a huge increase in the 6th Gen. The increase of the new generation was substantial and it held the value of the previous generation. Only time will tell but the higher GM prices the C8 substantially higher than the C7, the C7 will hold value more and of the C8 stays with the same pricing structure. That was the depreciation issue with the C6, as the C7 did not have a substantial price increase. Therefore, the C6 dropped much quicker in value due to the C7 not substantially increasing price. It makes a huge difference in the preowned market.

    • @EK-rr2md
      @EK-rr2md 6 років тому

      The 2014-2015 C7 is already in the low-mid 30s with a starting MSRP of 51k. They have already lost their value and will likely remain in the low 30s and maybe high 20s depending on mileage for the next several years. Do you really think their value will go up if the C8 costs more? You can get 5th gen V8 Camaros for under 15k and 6th gen Camaros in the mid 20s. Doesn't seem like any of these have held their value well.

    I personally do not think 55k is even close to what the price will be,,, OK we know that the Ford GT is around and over 250K in price plus it being a bargain over the Italian mid-engined supercars, and a lot of catch up engineering is based on on the mid-engine Ford's Ferrari and Lamborghini, the Price is got to be over 100K,,, also look at the prices of High end Chev. & GMC pick-ups are now reaching the 100K price... PS as I used to work as a Photog for the Big Three I am so proud of American Car Companies to get in the mix of fine road machine that match or surpass Euro Super Road cars

    • @KB-bh9hp
      @KB-bh9hp 6 років тому +5

      david abdo Bro, the new gt is faster around vir than a 918, so is the zr1, proving how far American cars have come. A big part of its high cost is the completely carbon fiber exterior and carbon heavy interior. The aventador is the same price roughly and even it isn't entirely carbon fiber. The gt weighs I believe about a thousand lbs less than the aventador, a little over 3,000 compared to the the lamb's 4k weight. Yes it's expensive but it's not only proven itself to be extremely fast, it's also proven itself to be very fun and engaging , alot more than its ferrari and lambo competitors. Motoring publications have said it makes something like a lambo feel tame by comparison. So a recap, performs great, feels great, looks great and has a great heritage and a strong racing performance under its belt. Yes it's expensive, but it's worth it.

    Any mid-engine sports car GM slaps a Corvette nameplate on…will be a LOT more than what you all are hypothesizing. It won’t base out less than $70k and I’m thinking maybe closer to $80k with forced induction models over $120k

  • @troypower4733
    @troypower4733 6 років тому +4

    The opposite may happen, given that the mid engine will be produced along side the C7 for a while, likely the price point will be higher than many expect, which in turn will stablilize C7 value.

    • @rondail5675

      If you are right, they will shoot themselves in the foot. "For the 2017 model year, Chevrolet built a total of 32,782 Corvettes." A high price will kill the volume. But having both might be their plan for 1 to 5 years. Interesting times.

    • @troypower4733

    I think the base car will start at $92,600 That was where the Acura NSX was in 2000. There is something about the based being SUB $100,000 but above the current $75,000 based price of the Z06. There is no way that this is less than $75,000 base. The DOHC V8 would be $99,600 and the top of the line engine will likely start at $125,000 with options all the way to $149,000.

    Actually, the engine is not 'in the back' as you state, it is in the 'middle'. That's why it's a 'mid-engine' platform and not a 'rear-engine' platform. The engine is still in front of the rear wheels. As opposed to the engine being behind the rear wheel, like 'rear-engine' platforms such as many Porsche.

    Regardless of price, buying the early run of a first year, totally new design, seems a bit risky, but there are always those who want to be first on the block. My money would be on the already awesome front engine car at the supposed reduced price. And in my little realm of reality, I could only afford a used C7 at that. (Depending on what happens with prices.)

  • @mrpmj00
    @mrpmj00 6 років тому

    Corvette has always been a practical car with enough trunk space for vacations. The C8 is a mid-engine and we know that mid-engine cars don't have trunk(front) space. Therefore, I think the C7 will be built alongside the C8. 2 target markets.

  • @lear60man
    @lear60man 6 років тому +1

    Two thoughts/predictions. A) The mid engine Vette will drive down Stingray prices IF and only IF the average Stingray owner can make the jump in price. B) From everything I have read, my gut says a base mid engine Vette will start in the $150,000 range, thus out of reach for the common owner. Chevrolet has tied up a lot of R&D into this monster to compete fully on the international level against the 911 Turbo and Ferrari. I believe it will do that task and come in at the $150k price point luring away prospective Euro brand buyers. The front engine Corvette will sell alongside the Zora for the foreseeable future so no 'tanking' of current cars. With that said, the Stingray in base form is the best bang for the buck out there. And I own an exotic and a 911.....Stingrays are awesome.

  • @keithvavrinak8618
    @keithvavrinak8618 6 років тому +1

    Ok, first, this isn't a reveal, lol. And I think the C8 will be priced high enough that it won't make the C7, or any other generation, depreciate any more than they already do. Besides, the common theory is that C7 and C8 will be sold together for a few years. GM didn't put all that money into making the ZR1 to just sell it for 1 year.

  • @ad2inquiries469
    @ad2inquiries469 6 років тому +1

    Chris, I'm in the same situation as you. However, I think the C8 will be MUCH more than $60K. I say that for couple of reasons, the C8 will have a dual clutch, I would expect that to add a $10K to the cost. Also, the mid-engine platform itself will add a $20K premium over the front engine platform (otherwise all manufacturers would have gone mid-engine long time ago). I would expect an entry level ~500 HP C8 will cost $80K + options (look at today's order sheet and you can see how quickly it can add up). Regarding the C7 depreciation, that's a valid point, however, I would think price is dropping because there is "more of the same" at-the-moment. When front engine production stops, front engine fans are still there and we don't know how the C8 is going to turn out. My guess since the C7 is the best front engine platform right now, and that' sthe end of it, its hard to ignore the performance value you get for your money compared for the C8, that's why the corvette is what it is today. If the C8 is going to take back some of the $$ value, I would see the C7 hold it's value (at least for the Z06 and GS). Lastly, The C8 will likely starting production in 2020, good luck getting one in the first year or two and there won't be a price drop by then. You're going to wait a good 3-4 years before getting into one. That's a lot of drooling, at least for me. Personally, I'd get something now, enjoy it NOW (and you won't be disappointed anyway) till we see how the C8 will turn out!

    I have a c7 right now and when this comes out I'll be walking mine for around 40 - 45k on the count I purchased used for 50k. That's to help pay for c8 which is rumored to be in the 150k range with out the bells and whistles, so I don't think the prices will budge much cause the c7 is not perfect but it's close to it. It's hard to give away a near perfect car. It's doing everything I want a car to do right now

    The car is going to be a limited edition Corvette called the ZoraC8. It's not a direct replacement to the C8 Corvette and the price range is in the lower $120's to about $150K

    Base will be $70,000 with a possible lightweight, stripped to the bones, naturally aspirated V8 model made to be a street driven to the track, a track day performance car. No power windows, locks or A/C, basic stereo system if any, might just have a few speakers for on-star. Could come with a version of the PDR track lap and performance recorder. Basic light interior materials. Will have limited sound deadening. With an all aluminum frame and suspension and like all will have many large sections of magnesium like the entire dash and center console, there will be a carbon fiber pan kinda like a VW's pan that will pull everything together and will give the C8 the stiffest chassis ever for a Vette while cutting a large amout of weight. This car will be in the 2750lb area while a loaded base, Z06, ZR1, Zora will max out at 3000 to 3200lbs. The LW will get every high performance option like the Carbon ceramic rotors and hi end Brembo brakes, with hopefully a 7 speed manual with an option for the DC trans. Big lightweight wheels in magnesium or a carbon fiber/aluminum three piece wheel that I have actually seen at GM's wheel manufacturer that supplies wheels for a military program I am one of the engineers on. Our tech advisor at this manufacturer showed us these wheels that he hinted would be on a certain new GM car. When we saw the size of them, the car these were going on was the C8. The fronts are 19x8.5 and the rears are 20x10.5 most likely as the low end tire combination. But he also showed us a 20x9.5 front and a 21x 12.5 rear. Are we looking at 245/40ZR19 front and a 285/35ZR20 rear for the smaller set and a 275/35ZR20 front and a 325/30ZR21 rear for the larger wheels? The tires will probably be a new version of the Michelin sport cup tires or a Goodyear high performance tire. The base C8 will be pretty well appointed but with no leather or the hundreds of gadgets that are optional.

    I think 80k and up, and it's about time for a mid engine corvette! I would wait for the C8, and it will not affect 53 through 82 prices, in fact those could rise in value, this will drive down the costs of the 84 through 2018 s in my opinion. This is the one to have, the costs could go through the roof with demand vs supply.

    I think it my drive the price of the front engine models up, because the demand is going to go up. It's simple supply and demand. A lot of people are holding off, to buy used front engine models, just like you are talking about. The supply is fixed, but demand seems to be set to increase, and you will be stuck because, if you want to buy a Corvette, you will either pay the seller's price or go buy yourself a new one for upwards of $120,000, which many people cannot afford.

I hope it looks good as that white rendering in this video, not so much the yellow lol. But if it has the dual clutch, then FINALLY i will move into an automatic vette. The A8's in the C7's now suck lol. And i know for sure i won't be getting the base C8. So i will definitely keep my eye on other engine options. This is very exciting.

    What a fantastic effort by a small team at General Motors. Remember the Corvette has been around since the 1950's - Lamborghini and a host of other car makers have not. This is the evolution of the Corvette and who cares if one particular driver is half a second slower around some ring than another car. The amount of lucky people who will get to experience the vision of those designers and engineers are very few. Those keyboard warriors whos only experience is reading perceived facts and figures off the internet are the ones who will most probably never even get to see one for real.
    Congratulations to all those in GM who believe in what they are doing.

    Great video on the C8 & the best rendering I've seen so far. But I have a couple things I'm noticing. With the engine in the middle of car the designers will have more freedom with the front end design. It opens a of lot possibilities. But the other thing is in this video you said "like Ferrari" not that being mention in the same conversation with Ferrari is bad but when the car goes too much like another manufacturers design it loses it identity. For Corvettes it's been the long sweeping front fenders and hood. Which have given it along with other styling cues it's distinctive Corvette personality. Now the possibility of DOHC and even sounding like a Ferrari makes me wonder is this the American sports car or a copy of a Ferrari? I didn't hate the design and definitely like active aero. As far as prices on the C7 they will drop but also if the new C8 is so un-Corvette like I think Corvette enthusiasts will still covet the C7 for the distinctively classy Corvette look. & with the already dominating performance of the Z06 & ZR-1 the C7 maybe the last traditional Corvette we'll ever get ?

    My take is that:
    a) In order to stay competitive with the German/Italian/British supercars, they have to go with a mid-engine design at the high end.
    b) C6 sales dropped off rapidly after 3 years, something which didn't happen with the C5. Changing demographics plus competition may force Chevy to accelerate their model cycles in order to sustain sales in the 30,000 or 40,000 annual range. But who knows, maybe it'll eventually become a lower volume model.
    After all, judging from the young youtuber channels, it's the McLarens, Lamborghinis and Porsches which dominate the imagination in the ultra-high performance realm.

    Emission standards were making forced induction, OHC, and lower displacement inevitable.
    High revving Ferraris are being forced towards it too. Honda had to drop high RPM and go to forced induction low rpm.
    The days of high output NA engines are outgoing.

    The C8 will eventually have an all wheel drive option with hybrid assist like the McClaren P1 and other European supercars ,and will have a combined output of 1200 HP I believe this will be the "Zora" and it will come in at 150 grand . Thats my prediction .
