    Correctly priced based on competitors. I think it’s great that the price bandwidth is from $56k to $123K between 4 variants. Whereas the Porsche’s 911 price bandwidth is $91K to $293K between approximately 8 variants. The Vette is certainly the value leader and has nothing to be ashamed about. Hate’m or Love’m, these two cars are the force pushing every other manufacturer to up their games.

      Any idea what the price would be for the Australian Market now that chevy and holden are basically going to be importing these type of cars including the camaro as well Approx, if the ZL1 C7 is around the 130K mark, then i would expect the price to be around the 150K to 160K mark in australia landed + on road costs ?

    why are so many stupid people complaining about the price? it's literally only 7k more than the c6 zr1 was. considering it's a new generation and the projected performance difference between the two cars is to be significant, this price is more than reasonable.

    I feel like we are in a horror movie and GM is Stephen king and we have no clue what they are about to do next. 😂🤣 Thanks for the shout out and the link. What we do know is GM is transitioning and now begins the process of winging their base off a front engine car. GM is now focusing on their next generation of customers and I can respect that. This news confirms what I am hearing that the ZR1 is going to be a 1 or at the most 2 year build. ZR1 is the bridge to the C8. I like that they will build C7 along side C8 for a few years. Great information as always sir!! 👍🏻😎

      Great info. I think if GM keeps the price range for the ZR1 around 120 - 130K it will be a very hot car for corvette owners. The ZRI has always been the top of the line for Corvette owners and will remain that way. I am very excited to see the car once it come out. GM needs to stay competitive in the correct price range with the ZR1...it is the American way LOL Corvette Hop

      +Corvettes 918 I know right lol... I was shocked when I saw the article this morning because we JUST found out the price of the ZR1 and now there are credible sources pointing to the C8 being a year or two away. I'm just sitting back with my little Stingray wondering if and what I'll ever be upgrading to haha. I still think the ZR1 is an absolute beast, but talk about a tough decision!

      Cars, Costs and Technology I'll have you know that a Corvette specialist by the name of Rick "Corvette" Conti told us about that information a while back. The 2018 model year is soon to end lol. Right there, I immediately figured that the 2019 is going to be the final year of the C7 and with the new mid-engine "Manta Ray" spy shots that have been released, 2020 model year is my bet for the all-new C8 Corvette generation.

      +Janusha I totally agree with this except GM spent decades positioning themselves on the bottom end. I think US car manufacturers were out-competed. After the 2008 meltdown American cars are actually good these days. New models for example the new Camaro, the new Mustang, are such a bang of the buck performance 2+2 coupe with decent contemporary technologies but the MSRP cannot keep up. Also exporting them, with the addition of RHD version do not justify the r&d and maintaining aftersales unit cost because the sales volume was not there for apparent reasons. (import tax, global acceptance. My previous gen. camaro ZL1 was a local exotic more than a GTR, a Porsche, but that also meant tiny volume.)
      Chevrolet cannot turn the Camaro into an expensive car, but it certainly can try what Porsche did, which is to introduce globally acceptable new models. What I am guessing is Corvette elevated to the status of exotics. Later, a new front engine 2+2 sports model sitting below it (with a sportscar chassis). I doubt the car in camouflage is a new model higher than Corvette. That will be similar to Ford's expensive GT which did not bring tangible benefit to the business. All these moves are risky but US brands are years behind in the model line up war comparing to the European and Japanese, Korean.

    If I was looking to purchase a Vette in the near future, I'd definitely wait for the C8, no question. The pushrod V8 is a great engine, but I'm very interested in what these new DOHC mils will do. They'll definitely be more efficient and have higher max output, but beyond that, only time will tell. Either way, I'd wait and decide when I can compare the 2.

    I think it's a smokin' deal. I own a 2017 Z06 with 07 package. I love the car, and have no interest in getting rid of it. The performance they are offering for $120K is insane. People need to recalibrate their expectations.

      People's expectations are based on name power and other ego-driven nonsense, otherwise, everyone would own a Corvette. Clarkson has spelled it out numerous times. I have no problem with the US filling this niche. Incredible value on a car line that has been running circles around European imports at twice the price or more for several years now and doing that while being very reliable and very comfortable, and even practical. You could absolutely daily this car if you sunk all your transport money into it in order to own one. I have a friend with a 2009 ZR1 that he paid a premium for and he has only ever had basic and totally reasonable issues with it over 80k miles. Issues you'd have on a Corrola. A headlight burnt out early, some weird fusebox mounting issue that took them 5 minutes to service, etc. Many cross-country trips and track days. No ridiculous fuckery you see with Ferraris, etc.

    One of the annoyances of being old (I'm 76) is noticing Chevrolet's recycling of nomenclature. I still have not gotten over their applying the almost sacred "ZL1" engine designation of 1969 to a version of the Camaro - an entire car - and now Corvette is recycling the "LT" engine nomenclature. In one of your pictures the valve covers read "LT5," which was the designation of the 1990-1995 ZR-1 engine. That part is appropriate, on the surface, but the first LT5 had dual overhead cams, and the new one does not. Also, you speculate that there will be OTHER engines (not the LT5) with dual overhead cams. Chevrolet has lots of positive imagination, I wish they would apply it to vehicle/engine specificity.

    • @MICKSHRED
      @MICKSHRED 6 років тому +3

      SidsCardShop i found it hard to accept them calling this "lt5" which is just an lt4 with bigger blower. however they should of called it somthimg else intill they come out with another dohc engine.

    • @MrKillerToad
      @MrKillerToad 6 років тому +2

      And the LT4 is just a LT1, so whats your point?

    • @SidsCardShop
      @SidsCardShop 6 років тому +1

      Killertoad: I'm sorry, it's something that can't be explained - a person either has a thing for favorite "numbers" or not. You're obviously too young to know that the 1970 350ci LT1 replaced the really cool 7000+ RPM 302 in the Z/28, so the LT4 is not the same as that. I never was a fan of the original LT1, although the 1970 version had solid lifters, which was kind of cool. 427 is my favorite engine number, and the sound that the LS7 makes in the 2014 Z/28 is the sweetest music my ears have ever heard - the only sound I prefer over a late model high-performance Mustang. ua-cam.com/video/kz70cXFrQ5A/v-deo.html

    • @MrKillerToad
      @MrKillerToad 6 років тому +5

      That was a reply to Fonzo, not you, but since you're being somewhat passive aggressive for no reason, you do know that there is a thing called generations, no? There are currently 5 generations of the SBC's, with that being said there are 3 engines called the LT1, a gen 1 SBC, gen 2 SBC and gen 5 SBC. Not to mention the original LT1 wasn't even called the LT1, it was called the LT-1, same differences between the ZR-1 and the ZR1.
      Now with all that, Chevy doesn't have many options to name their engines, they normally (as you know) like to use LT, LS, L, etc as their nameplates, vs say dodge with their 5.7, 392, hellcat name plates, and vs Fords normally "coyote", "voodoo", etc.
      So, Chevy likes to name the engine with the car, for example, the Gen V LT1 came out in the Camaro (and Corvette, but Corvette's engines change so much over the years, hard to compare), the Gen II LT1 came out in the Camaro as well.
      The Gen V LT4 came out in the in the C7 Z06 corvette, the Gen II LT4 came out in the C4 Corvette in 96 (last year of the C4), and then was passed down to the F body (Camaro SS/Trans am) as special editions, which was kinda true for the Gen V LT4, being passed to the ZL1, but not really the same (Production numbers for the F body LT4 was under 150 combined ss/trans am)
      Then the LT5 coming out in the C4 ZR-1 and then the LT5 for the C7 ZR1. Now the engines aren't really common at all, but I'd assume they're paying "homage" to the LT series from the Gen II SBC engines, hence the name LT5 in the C7, vs the LS9 in the C6 ZR1.
      C4 had the LT4/LT5
      C7 had the LT4/LT5
      So with allllll that being said, the engine name codes of modern times aren't necessarily tied to the engine per-say, as in they're not very similar anymore, it has to do with more or so the car than anything.
      But about your point about the LS7, I agree, I love the sound of the 427, but right now I'm enjoying my ford 302 with a supercharger, lol
      Sorry for the long read.

      The corvette competes with the very best in sports cars/supercars all over the world and for the fraction of the price. The problem that the corvette is that GM has always held back it's potential to accommodate the white middle aged upper middle class americans who want a glorified front engine 2 seat muscle car fast back. Don't get me wrong, I like those things to but you can get that with the Camaro ! The corvette should be the very best that GM can do with performance and handling on the track. Ever since the c6 came out I was stoked and it represented a change in GM's plans for the corvette, it's a shift from everyday sports car to a world class supercar. The c7 is the next evolution to what GM has in store for the Corvetter, The 2019 zr1 is going to be a world beater and it will directly compete with the finest the world has to offer. The c8 is supposed to be the very best corvette ever and it will be the most radical design and layout that corvette has ever done. Mid-engine 550 hp Vette !

    I've had Huge $$$ down on this car for a year and a half, getting super excited, and now they're saying I can't get one because only 60 are coming to all of Canada, for 1500 dealers. I was first in line with (what I was told) a guaranteed allotment. They got a letter saying if you don't get an allotment, don't bother calling. Only 2 allotments in the whole greater Vancouver Area, and the dealers owners are buying them. This is F N stupid. I'm so pissed off I'm sick to my stomach. Finally have the money to buy the car I want, waited almost 2 years, and still can't get one. Not cool GM.

      Yes we've looked into importing from US and there is some law that says you have to wait 6 months, so, that's not bad. I've waited this long, but you're right it'll be more expensive. I'm looking into the Mclaren 720s right now. So they may get my cash, but I really didn't want to spend that much on a car. lol, and I'm loving the ZR1 even more now...

    GM is in the car business to, 1. Make money and a lot of it. 2. Satisfy stock holders by being very profitable. 3. Care about what the Corvette enthusiast feels, to a point. Pretty much in that order. It is what it is! I own a 2016 Corvette and am planing to purchase a new C8 mid-engine if and when they become available. I love to drive my Corvette not to go 212 MPH. The ZR1 will stay in production through 2021 ish. All other C7 models will be dropped in the fall of 2019 when the C8 is introduced. The C8 will first be introduced as a base model that will replace the C7 Stingray. Look for pricing of the base mid engine car to be around $65K including the only transmission as a dual clutch automatic.. A mid engine ZR1 type replacement will show up around 2024/5 ish.

    Trying to get a new Z06 right at 80k is tough. Most fall into the 90-100 range. Click a few options and hello 107k. 120 for the ZR1. That seems about right after looking at what it comes with already. I think they should have done a bit more with the interior but the Corvette is about top performance at a "reasonable" price. The big wing would stay in the garage till track time though but it does look pretty good. OK XBT. Get your $hit together....

    The 2018/19 ZR1 also has another 100hp, is lighter by 210lbs, has a much revised automatic that takes some performance design/parts from the crazy fast and smart 10 speed from the ZL1 Camaro, much more carbon fiber than the Z06 along with a more track savy suspension and that aero body with several powered air management systems like the rear wing that will go from max top speed configuration to full on the brakes and handling in about a 1/10th of a second! When it goes 6:50's at the nurburgring it will fetch that price and be worth it.

    • @EK-rr2md

  • @andyharman3022
    @andyharman3022 6 років тому

    Here's my guesses for the mid-engine Corvette engines: LT2: An LT1 redesigned to be installed in a mid-engine car, maybe bumped to 500 HP. LT6: DOHC 5.5L, naturally aspirated with 650 HP. LT7: DOHC 5.5L twin turbo with 850 HP. I don't believe there will be a 4.2L DOHC V8. It would make the mid-engine Corvette too much of a copy of the Ferrari 430, and GM just won't do that. I think the 5.5L will be loosely based on the Gen V small block, but the only common dimension will be the bore spacing.

    So im thinking for the c8 the 6.2L pushrod will be in the base model making 460-475hp, the 5.5L DOHC well be for the grand sport making 520-550hp NA , and the 4.2L DOHC will be flat plain crank and twin turbo making 600-650hp in the Z06. Or the 4.2L DOHC flat plain crank and twin turbo will be for the grand sport with only 550hp and the 5.5L DOHC will be in the Z06 with twin turbos. GM has a turbo 2.0L DOHC i4 making 275hp so 550hp from a 4.2L v8 should be expected.

    I am not sure if it is just a prototype test bed to see how a mid-engined C performs in real life, or if all these are intentionally hyped up news to see public reactions.
    This is however a HUGE concept change to the model (image a mid-engine GTR, even though we might never see the next gen). For me it is hard to imagine an affordable base model with very limited trunk space, or say, more difficult/expensive to modify a base model. Corvette owners are not the same as the usual European sportscar owners.
    There are few possible reasons for this to happen: (Big corporations simply would not touch halo products unless there are big plans to bring about future benefits)
    1. motorsport homologation (this alone is not enough).
    2. A mid-engine layout WILL elevate Corvette to the level of exotics, possible higher retail across the range, new top tier model range.
    3. Hybrid for AWD, rear wheel steering, etc.
    4. a future smaller 2+2 front engine entry sports model can be introduced, price between Camaro and Corvette.
    Still, a mid-engine Corvette? Hard for me to grasp atm.

I guess I'll just have to stick to my second choice, a Camaro ZL1 1LS. Just to have a point of referance: I ordered my first new car, a 1976 Datsun 280Z, which cost me all of $7300. I sold it three years latter for $7300. My point is that this car is not only priced right, but it will definitly be an investment (If treated as it should be.).

Also it was fast for its power i've seen 0-60 in the 4.3sec range and 12.7sec 1/4 mile for 405 hp thats flying for a car that weighed 3,500lbs. Our large Chevy dealership had no less than a dozen Vettes all new. One Z06. We did NOT sell one of them held since May. We wholesaled them back to GM (with some help from them). The Camaro ZL1 we only had allotments for 3 of them and could have sold 50. Now dealers are discounting in excess of $15K to move the 2017 Vettes. This new 2018 version is a total ripoff with nothing else engine-wise but more boost.
