    They should just make a new car design and call it something different then a Corvette. This is to Corvette what Cloverfield lane was to the original Cloverfield movie.

      I don't. This is the natural evolution of the chassis to equilibrium. Driver nirvana. For a drag car, sure but for something meant for corners, mid engine is the pinnacle. Period.

    If GM could build a Mid-Engine Fiero for under $20k in 1988, then they shouldn't have a problem building a Mid-Engine Corvette for under $70k in the Near Future. It's not as expensive as people think.

      21cElectronicsMaster all the part suppliers they gotta pay tho. I'm working 7 days a week to supply ford which they pay us dubble time and overtime to supply them while they pay there workers tripple time to assemble them . that's why vehicles cost so much. I make 27 on double time while ford workers make like 75-90 bucks an hour on tripple time.

    I usually like Chevy's high HP v8 options, but I just hope they don't blow it with the body design for mid engine car.
    have a funny feeling it will be just so-so looking compared to a Real mid engine exotic. And if that's the case, they can keep it.
    however, I am glad that they are making it, so the HP wars continue.

      Hammer Smith what point are you trying to get at? First off, Ferrari doesn't even style many of their own cars.... That would be the task of Pininfarina or however it's spelled.... It is a design firm that has penned the bodywork for many vehicles. They most certainly have not been the designer of Corvettes to this point though. Not saying their design influences haven't made a showing on the vettes, but they didn't do it.

      The main issue with them was they were made in the 60's and had the softest suspension coupled with some serious hp, and a very light nose, the vehicle would lift in the front under hard acceleration. Kinda bad for turning. Or stopping. Or just living in general. That's why development was killed at that time.

Appearance is in the eye of the beholder but actual measurable data points will tell you how well any car is designed and built.

    As a long time Corvette fan and owner, I have no interest in a mid engined Vette. few people I know think this is a good direction.

    • @RCFourFive
      @RCFourFive 6 років тому +5

      Why? There is nothing wrong with the handling of the current mid engine rear wheel drive layout. The Corvette has been a mid engine rear wheel drive layout since the C5. The C5/C6/C7 engine is already behind the front axle and the transmission is at the rear. Which has already given the balanced handling needed to dominate all forms of motor-sport. So other than to just say "oooohhh the Corvette copied the Ferrari" why else is this mid-engined Corvette needed?
      People that are in the $200,000+ shopping range are not cross shopping a Corvette anyway. They are looking at Lamborghini and Ferrari and Mclaren,
      This new layout is simply playing to the fanboys and not the actual Corvette buying public.
      From day 1 the C5Z06 ran with and beat the F360 and P911. The same holds true for the C6 and C7.
      There is no reason other than bragging rights for this layout change.
      All this will do is raise the price of the car, reduce the number of customers and bring about the demise of the brand sooner - GM will have no desire to keep a money losing expensive car on the books.
      Anyone remember the Cadillac XLR? That is what happens when a car company brings a car to market that people are interested to look at but nobody wants to buy.
      Any money spent on keeping the rear mid engine car alive will be less money spent on the front mid engine car.

      RCFourFive I agree, we don’t need a rear engine vette. I own 3 Vettes currently and would hate to see the name “Corvette” destroyed by turning it into the next Ferrari. That’s just my opinion on it though.

    • @closetoexplosion9578
      @closetoexplosion9578 6 років тому +3

      RCFourFive. I agree, i think they should just keep the corvette tradition and give this mid engine car a new category in chevys line up, maybe it should be "the all new 2018 chevy verro" chevys first mid engine car. They really need to leave corvette alone, like seriously.

      Amen! It's not going to handle better, just differently. I'd much rather they went 'hybrid' with 150hp worth of electric motors on the front wheels to get us sub 3sec 0-60 times on "normal" street tires. Though, having poked around under the hood of many corvettes, I have NO idea where the hell they'd put them lol.

    As a huge mid engine fan,I think Corvette doesn't need a mid engine car.They already have a mid engine car currently.Corvette should do what Porsche has done with their 911. OWN IT for what it
    is!
    There was a time Corvette needed a boost ,but this current model turns heads,has a younger ,buyer base and is a world class car. All Corvette needs to do is keep reducing weight ala McClaren ,
    This day and age there is no longer a huge advantage over mid engine front mount car ,over a mid engine rear mount car.
    Trying to compete with cars that aren't driven everyday like the exotic europeans , is a little futile.
    Leave Corvette as it is. Now if Chevy wants to make a rear mid engine car and call it a dontov that's different.

    • @MindDezign
      @MindDezign 6 років тому +1

      Puff the Magic Dragon the latest Corvette has the front engine pushed far back into a midengine position.
      Midengine is a placement of the motor for better weight distribution,it can be applied to a front mounted motor or a rear mid mounted motor.
      The performance advantage comes from weight distribution and weight transfer during vehicle Dynamics.
      The latest Corvette has a very modern weight distribution .I don't see any advantage of making it a rear mid engine as it has a very good weight distribution currently as a front mounted mid engine car..I hope that clears up my point.
      They can always shave more weight from components weight makes it handle and perform better.
      I just think Corvette is a front mounted car.If they make a mid engine car it's not a Corvette.
      Porsche made a midengine car they didn't call it a 911.they made it a different model.Chevy should do the same .

    With mid-engine cars like the C8, the front overhangs A LOT more which means you're gonna scrape it more often than you are with the C7. Mid-engine cars also have a smaller trunk if you're gonna daily drive it (Costco shopping trips) or take it on long trips whereas the C7 has 15 cubic foot of space which is the 2nd largest trunk for a sports car after the Ferrari Berlinetta at 17 cubic feet. With the midengine C8, I don't see a place to stow the removable roof so I don't think the roof will be removable unless it comes in 2 pieces which would fit in the frunk.

    G.M. is going to do the same thing with the Corvette that they did with the CADILLAC lineup. CADILLAC prices were raised to be nearly as high as their German competition, you can't claim to be on par with the best and be priced way below them. Corvette prices will rise but not go through the roof as many people think. they will have a base price in the $ 60 to 65:00 price range and max out around $150, 000. thats not bad considering what those Italian and German so called super cars cost. Corvette has always been a thorn in those supposed exotics side. the moderately priced ZR1 runs circles around those foreign cars and doesn't cause you to mortgage your soul in order to h one. Corvette will always be the ultimate sports car and all those who hate on American sports cars will make excuses for why you shouldn't compare Corvette to the Italian and German supercars. but Corvette will continue to kick ass and take no prisoners.Chevy has a Vette for any amount of money you're willing to spend. you can spend more than $200,000 on a customized Corvette right now today.

    Corvette has always been a practical car with enough trunk space for vacations. The C8 is a mid-engine and we know that mid-engine cars don't have trunk(front) space. Therefore, I think the C7 will be built alongside the C8. 2 target markets.

    The transmission will be something special, mark my words. I talked to a gm engineer and he told me about this car a full year ago. He said the mid engine and regular will be sold together and that an optional transmission will be something never in a car production before. That was a year ago so was he talking about the 10 speed, I don't think so! I'm thinking a single speed Koenigsegg Style or something else crazy like that.

    Long overdue but if the mid-engine Corvette is too expensive or much more than current models, it'll kill the sales and purchasing power of a new "vette," and be just a pipe dream for most and even reasonably successful people. Price points are going to determine success or failure of these new and finer sports machine.
