Whatever the rest is…that motor is just SO right in sound and character. It calls to me.
It's a lot of fun for sure
15:11 “Let’s go & do some proper off-road stuff”… You my friend provide some of the best ADV bike testing / reviews / content on UA-cam! I’ve been waiting on this video since you brought your buddies T7 home. Every time I see that the ABS is ON, I’m like oh sh!t hope Curtis see’s that before some knarly section pops up. Keep up the awesomeness and I can’t wait for more! 🤙
Mate that abs 😂
Just got my first bike in march. The mighty gen 3 KLR. I think the T7 will be my next bike. Looks great.
Nice mate, got to love the gen 3. Initial thoughts are skip this and get a Tuareg
I will look into that. Thanks bud.
It must have heavier springs as they come sprung for a 70 kg rider. My T7 is super plush over trail trash but blows through the stroke on any decent hit. I`m 95 kg with gear on and heavier rate springs are on order.
That's what I reckon. Will play with the suspension and keep testing
Great information mate, really well done. Best one yet.
Thanks mate
Another great test Curtis. 👍
I’d imagine that the previous owner put the stiff suspension on the T-7 because most reviewers said that the bike was too soft in suspension.
Thanks Pinkie, that's what I think too. Will be fun to play with the settings
@@onthebackwheel you’ll get it sorted out. 👍 Have fun. 😊
Yeah, I have the same problem with the suspension. Airing down tires to about 1.5 bar helps quite a bit.
I also can see that you dropped the bike on the right side trying to go over the log at 27:34 but decided to edit it out. Check the muffler, after a right-side drop it can rotate a bit and start rubbing the swingarm.
Hehe eagle eye. It was a solid 5 minute workout there so I edited it out to keep the length down. Very slow drop and then lots of man handling because of the drop off next to me and no damage
Same here, I was surprised how it seems firm on the small bumps but soft on the bigger bumps, would like it the other way around.
Suspension sounds identical to my bike. I have stiffer springs front and rear. Need valving done for high speed I think is the issue. But it's sick to be able to jump her and not bottom out.
I've got some mates who have theirs set up properly and love it
Great video, as always! You really ride these bikes, which is great to see!
Thanks Chris, had a blast
Mt Mee?? I upgraded my suspension with MPE at Caloundra and it changed the bike, about $1k and worth every cent! One of my favourite bikes for sure, like a big dirt bike.
Mt Mee indeed. Heard the same from multiple people, transforms the bike
That's some choice riding you have there! The T7 sure is a nice bike!
Very lucky with the riding we've got nearby
Great insight. Always value your opinions given how many of these bikes you have ridden
Cheers mate. Getting there
Banger of a video. 👏🏻
Thanks mate
As usual you gave it a great workout. Well done
Thanks mate
Proper test ride🤘🤠
👊
I have a KLR and tried to trade it for a tenere. Bought the tenere but cant get shit for money on the KLR. I love em both but the Tenere is a whole other animal than the KLR. I think ill own it for a long long time. Amazing bike
It is definitely on another level hey. Mean machine off road
@@onthebackwheel definitely is man. I love your channel, catch every video and I use you a lot for a reference. Keep up the good work brother
I took my t7 to mt mee i I too thought it was way chattery on small/medium bumps, it sucked. But big hits it was fine.
Sounds similar to this. Have you ended up tweaking it?
Revisit: Really enjoy the bits where I recognise the part of the track you're on.
I find it easier on slightly overcast days to see the track details.
You love that lantana.🖖
I agree, MUCH easier to see without the shadows
There are yellow tinted $30 riding glasses on sale at some BP servo stations , they are great to lighten u p the trails and roads in shadows and tree overhangs .
Thanks.
Haha, I got stuck like that on the log last weekend. I could not push it out under the power so off we went on the side and drag over. The problem is I still have the original bash plate and the linkage perfectly anchors on top of the log if it is a bit higher then the front axle.
Mate it took me 5 minutes or so to get over it!
I believe it has pretty flat tork graph, so any gear will not fail - as far as I rode this motorcycle.
But what a splendid trail! Classy one!
Thanks mate
Great work Curtis - I ride Mt Mee all the time and have not even seen half the tracks you were pushing that T7 through. You really were giving that T7 some berries through there in places. Respect!
Thanks mate. There's some good tracks in there!
D'Aguilar Forestry he's at
Waterholes, trails, creeks and camping
Hi Curtis, didn't recognise your entry into D'Aguilar Nt Park, down way south of Dayboro. Never been down there.
This one was Mount Brisbane Road Shane
I put the windscreen extension that clips on and help the Helmet wind Buffering a cheap fix!
Good to know mate!
Great video. Well done
Thanks!
I own a GS 700 but this is and has always been my dream bike. Might be tall for me but I don't care!
You get used to it
I’m 169 cm and have the touratech lowseat (onepiece) super comfy ”
And its ok when you get used to it😊 but you will drop it if you stop at the wrong place in the Forrest 😂
The suspension of this bike must have been modified.
At least with heavier springs, if not valves as well... the softness of the stock springs is a major complaint in any review of the T7 that I have seen so far.
Thinking that too
Nice ride mate 👍🏻 love my T7
Cheers mate. Glad to hear you're enjoying it
Awsome review. Where is that trail, I would love to bring my T7 out there .
Thanks mate. This was at Daguilar and Mt Mee. Good days riding out there
You know when a Aussie is doing a review it's going to be good lol. These dudes are built different haha
😈
might be a bit of stretch but id love to see a tiger 900 rp review. im tossing up between the t7 and the tiger 900rp. i havent quite figured out how much to spend or riding style yet.
Already done it mate, good bike!
@@onthebackwheel I may have already watched it lol. Either way I'm going to go back and watch it possibly again
Have you gotten used to that piece of the engine sticking out and hitting your boot? I noticed this on a test ride and that was one of my main gripes with it
Mate I only had it for a month or so can't give a long term comment. I was getting used to that part but it was certainly annoying iniitally
Hoe the T7 compares to the tiger 900rp, especially in regards to stability offroad?
Thanks in advance for your feedback!
The T7 is better off road especially with the suspension done. The Tiger is better on the road and still pretty decent off it though!
Weighs close to my KTM 1290SAS. All that trouble with moving the KLR around when you had the stick incident...this "middle" weight won't be any easier. It'll be better on the highway though, one plus.
It is LOTS lighter than your super adventure, 40kg I believe. Big difference combined with the extra engine inertia. This isn't mine BTW, just borrowing it
@@onthebackwheel You're right, I read the specs wrong :D I'll quietly see myself out
@@stitchjones7134 all good mate 😂
@OnTheBackWheel missed opportunity to lay it on :D
what camera mount you use mate?
For this, GoPro mounts, nothing special. I've moved to a Nexx helmet that has built in mounts, much easier
The speedometer is out by 10kph standard, 100 on speedometer has you doing 90kph on a gps.
I found it to be a little less generally. Definitely over reads though
Great riding. I still need to ride one of these. Cheers, Cam from NZ :)
Cheers mate. Seems like a well built machine
@@onthebackwheel Yeah, I was a bit suspicious when I first looked at one, but I've seen a few secondhand ones that seemed to have stayed looking nice - so yeah, they seem quite good. Was that a second-hand dealer bike? Or a mate's bike?
@@actstuntcam mates bike. He just got it and broke his leg so can't ride it 😬
@@onthebackwheel :( That sux. Hope he gets better soon and it isn't a bad break. I broke my femur in a horse riding accident. It wasn't good!
so what about the springs, are tey original? ... I still have my stiffer springs in the box .... I think I might sell them ...
I think stiffer. Going to do my further testing and it might be ok softened up
@@onthebackwheel this dude changed the springs and says it becomes much more comfortable over small pottholes ua-cam.com/video/7GhCd0euGGA/v-deo.html ... so my guess is that you were riding the bike with the original soft springs :)
Hi. Great videos mate. How would you compare T7 against Tuareg?
Cheers. The Tuareg is noticeably better
id love to see a tenere 900 possibly? with the mt09 engine
That would be interesting, by all accounts a good motor. Would be very different
The bike that sells itself. : )
Good fun for sure!
When you made suspension changes, did you make it softer? right?
Yes that's right
@@onthebackwheel thank you! Just got my t7 and watching a ton of videos on people experiences. So excited to hit the trails!!
@@The_MotoRebel nice mate, get stuck in! I believe this suspension had harder springs, so that is something to consider
Hey mate what map app do u run on your phone
I use Gaia GPS. I rate it
Curtis rides into the woods, what could possibly happen? Man when you test a bike ,it has been tested! As good as the Tuareg?
Nah Tuareg is noticeably better. It was smooth sailing this ride!
Are you going to try the 890 adventure R or the tiger 900 rally?
I've reviewed the Tiger, good bike! 890 probably not. The new one is too much cash
What brand are the crash bars?
Crosspro. Easy to install and strong
@@onthebackwheel
Did you work out the suspension setup?
Stock the forks are terrible & blow through their travel.
I went the budget $2k Teknik option with their valving & springs which made it heaps better off road. I’d be keen to ride a Full Tractive Setup with the Pro Shock & Closed Cartridge fork setup.
@@gizmoe1976 no it's a mates bike. I gave it back after a couple of months and just dialed it best as I could. It has stiffer springs in it, that's all we know because he bought it second hand too. I have mates who've sent theirs to MPE and BDBS and love their set ups now
It would be very interesting to see you having a t7 for your own though 🤔
For sure. Early days, but I don't think I'll be buying one
@@onthebackwheel what are you thinking about?
@@noostNL this is a friend's bike
@@onthebackwheel yeah but as a next buy?
Oh man, we cant even find that bike here in the states.
Yeah? Doesn't seem too bad here (world raid is a different kettle of fish...)
I’m surprised as everybody says suspensions are too soft…are they stock
What exhaust are you running?
Some cheap Chinese thing. I think my mate got it on AliExpress
How many K's on the bike and year model
2020 model and 28000kms (17000miles)
I tried the Tenere one year ago... that engine touching my right leg was not confortable at all for me... I lasted 5 minutes and quickly switched again to my TTR600 which is awesome for offroad ... definetly Teneré is not for me.
Glad it's not just me!
So did you buy this? KLR replacement?
Nah just a mates
@@onthebackwheel seems to suit your riding style. What’s your budget though. Have you put a shortlist together?
@@AgricUltra budget I'm figuring out. I've got a short list, it just depends on the $$$. This and the Tuareg are the most suitable I reckon
@@onthebackwheel exactly what I was thinking. Go the Tuareg if funds allow. Dare to be different 😉
@@AgricUltra I won't be buying a T7 so don't worry about that!
You could buy a CRF300 Rally, update the suspension, bars, exhaust, bashplate and tires, and have $4,000 - $5,000USD left over compared to the price of a Tenere.
Yep but with half the power
Yup, and you’d still have a crf300 with only 300 cc and a single cylinder. Apples to oranges
Had a crf300l for around 6 months found it boring now ride a KTM690 yes more maintenance but a heap more smiles and thats why I ride
And when you got to the highway sections on our big brown land, you wished you had a Tenere.
Those CRF300 are so gutless and boring. They are a bike for learners.
its designed not to wheelie easily. Fort9 did an episode about it over a year back
Can't say I've seen that one. I do remember at the launch years ago they mentioned it. Interesting to experience
Where is this offroad section located?
Mt Mee, QLD
Yay - first to leave a comment :P
👊
This will probably replace my drz but I may want more balls in the street. I kind of want the Africa twin.
It's certainly nice to have the extra punch and cruising power
Video resolution needs work.
Yeah? I find it needs to be watched at 4k and it's pretty good
Yes mate… the abs will kill you offroad. The lighter the bike the worse it is.
Edit: i’v lost count how many times a locked back wheel has saved my life after going too quick into a corner on a fire trail.
💯 agree, first thing I turn off!
Killing me to watch you skip all those potential jumps!
I hit a few erosion mounds!
@OnTheBackWheel This was honestly one of the most fun rides I've seen, you nailed it. What a great area you have, and great narration, thanks.
@@shaundisch2020 cheers mate. Will be hard to move from here, only 30 minutes to the dirt!
@OnTheBackWheel Well then, I better not move, I have hill climbs 15 min away! Lucky us. 😃
@@shaundisch2020 ok you win! 😂
Another ugly-monstrosity bike waiting to cripple ya 😆🤣
Haha maybe
