Goes for basically any boxing fight of the 80s and 90s, it's like every fight was a close quarters slug fest, far far different from how fighters fight today, they fight not to get knocked out or to lose, not to put on a show
Tyson had to be at his absolute very best for this fight, and he was! Some of those shots he took from Ruddock were insane, and he was seemingly unfazed by them. I don't think anyone would've beaten Tyson on this night. Massive credit to Ruddock as well... Not many would've made it to the final bell like he did. This is a masterpiece of heavyweight boxing.
It's amazing how fast Ruddock just gets up from a serious knockout and recovers in a few seconds while any other boxers stay down or take longer to recover from a Tyson knock out..
Compared to some years earlier, Mike looks quite exhausted throughout this. More sluggish, wayyy less headmovement. He looks good fighter here, but in his peak shape and training, he looked perfect.
This is the typical heavyweight boxing. Two strong power punchers giving it and taking it like nobody's business. Massive respect 🙌🏾 Otumfour Kojo Agyemang
There’s an interview where Tyson was asked if it was true that he hit Rudduck with lots of low blows. Tyson said Rudduck had his shorts up to his neck. He’s right, half of those low blows were body punches
This was the comment I was looking for. He has his shorts way above his naval. Mike’s a beast. Ruddock throws heavy punches and Mike is still standing. What a matchup.
This fight proved that Tyson didn't fold when faced with a decent challenge, Tyson was hurt at times and came back. The common criticism of Tyson is he was a bully, but here's all the proof you need, the man was tough as nails.
The only difference is Tyson is like a bull..he seems not to feel the punches. By raising two arms after a hit..you can tell Ruddock is really feeling it
This was Tyson's last fight before going to prison in early 1992. He never looked this good against top opposition again, but he was still good enough to take Evander Holyfield 11 rounds in 1996 (their first fight) and Lennox Lewis eight rounds in 2002. That is not bad for a fighter whose prime ended in early 1989 after a very sub-par performance over the stiff and mechanical British fighter, Frank Bruno. Ruddock did well in this second fight with Tyson, but he took too much punishment during the 12 rounds and, as a result, he was never the same fighter. Lewis blew him away in two rounds in late 1992 and then he was stopped by Tommy Morrison in six rounds in 1995. So, effectively, Ruddock versus Tyson 2 was the bout that significantly diminished both fighters - Ruddock more so than Tyson but still the damage had been done.
That left hand punch razor threw, that was a cross between a hook and an upper cut (it had a name can't remember now) is one of the hardest punches l've ever seen..
Ruddock's shorts were too high on purpose to make anything to the body look like low blows and keep drawing calls. Ruddock's trunks are up his back to the bottom of his lat muscles but Tyson's shorts are at the belt line below the abdomen
Yeah I agree, Mike's aggression right from the start and his movement, speed and power make him very entertaining to watch even though there are arguably quite a few superior heavyweight boxers
His not even Top 10 best heavyweights ali ,Louis, lewis holyfield and few more had a much better resume , but he is sure the most entertaining heavyweight in my opinion I never get bored of his fights
What a fight🥊and people say mike didn’t have heart ❤️ big up to both warriors💪🏼👍🏻ruddock is one tough dude😳will be a long time before we see a fight like this again in the heavyweight division! Maybe never😞
The reason Tyson did not knock out Rudduck was because he had slowed down his training around this time. These were the infamous Tyson party days. But, in the first Tyson vs Rudduck fight was bigger and stronger. His punches were more devastating. But, Tyson never stopped being a warrior. And he will whoop that kid that thinks he is a boxer next month. I can't wait.
They said mike tyson was scared of him but damn Tyson beat him up two times ! Wtf is wrong with UA-cam saying mike was scared of him ! What a joke ! LOL 😂😅😊😂
Do doubt both amazing boxers.. incredibly powerful skillful puncher and heart & body of steel taking heavy blows from each other..Best wishes to both..❤👍🙏
I can see Tyson’s size limitation. Donovan did a good job at using his long arms to weaken mikes punches. He also box well to keep the distance. Mike has undeniable ability to pin point with tremendous speed powerful punches. I think if I can name one think Mike is special is his ability to find opening and spring for it fast. He’s good at reading movements and knows where to place himself for the hits. His other big flaw, he loses patients easily, the longer the fight the more frustrated he gets, the more opening he leaves. All goes back to his size limitation and short reach. It would have been crazy if Mike was around 6’4, he would’ve been a wrecking machine especially with his dedication for training.
Tyson has a solid short wide torso and short thick muscular neck, and proportion muscular arms and legs combined with his speed and agility which made him the perfect boxer for the peekaboo style. No one, i mean no one will ever be able to fight this style better then tyson, ever. Many wannabes have tried and failed.
What made Mike really special was his movement. He was still very good here but too easy to hit. He still could bang but took these bombs from bigger fighters.
Both fighters took a proper ass whoopin'. Everyone going on about how amazing Tyson is - remember, a fighter is only as good as the quality of their opponents and Ruddock has to be equally amazing in his own way for it to be a good fight.
1988 Tyson was much faster and definitely the best version.. that is not to say he wasn’t fast here but there isn’t the same kind of head movement that he had from 1985-89..
Tyson had already lost to Douglas he wasn't the same fighter after leaving his old camp and trainer Rooney.. he basically did what he wanted and knew one cared nor kept him focused and in checked.
Rudducks defense was terrible. He would throw a punch and then leave his hands low and tyson hammered him with a counter every time. Razor could have won.

Both fighters took a proper ass whoopin'. Everyone going on about how amazing Tyson is - remember, a fighter is only as good as the quality of their opponents and Ruddock has to be equally amazing in his own way for it to be a good fight.
I never seen so man low blows in 1 fight 😂
Donovan deserved credit
FUN FACT: Ruddock had his jaw broken in 3 places after Iron Mike knocked him down in Round 4. Hell of a fight.
Donovan had a Great Fight
[7:55] Clint Eastwood enjoying the fight.
Good spot!
No wonder they call him Iron Mike
What this man took on punches....and went over the time....wow
Tyson fought terrible in this fight which made it entertaining he gave Ruddock many chances! Showed how eroded his skills were here!
When tyson starts measuring his punches you know he just wants to end it
If people can see Mike Tyson can take a punch. He's not a one punch fighter
He thought Tyson is a fighter you can mess with
1988 Tyson was much faster and definitely the best version.. that is not to say he wasn’t fast here but there isn’t the same kind of head movement that he had from 1985-89..
Tyson had already lost to Douglas he wasn't the same fighter after leaving his old camp and trainer Rooney.. he basically did what he wanted and knew one cared nor kept him focused and in checked.
A Tyson right broke Razors JAW 😮mid fight! Kudos to him for finishing!
Tyson after his first loss doesn’t beat lewis or Holyfield. If he fought Holyfield this fight instead of razor, he loses.
I remember seeing this fight then those 90s fight were 👍
Tyson one of the all-time greats, could give a belter an also take one....
This fight was power fight, not skills fight.
Damn both fights both were letting them hands go all iron punches
So many dirty low blows by Tyson
ruddock was all battered up but he hung on.
Rudducks defense was terrible. He would throw a punch and then leave his hands low and tyson hammered him with a counter every time. Razor could have won.
Razor broke his right hand he cudn throw it
