For those who don't know: DreamWorks didn't have high hopes for the first Shrek movie, so they treated its development like purgatory and sent animators who screwed up in some way on the Prince team over to work on Shrek to get rid of them.

I saw all the comments about the continuity details; but this is still a solid video. I loved the way you threaded the dating app jokes and sort of made your own little sub-story within the retelling, and I love this series overall as a funny little reframing exercise. First I saw was ATLA from Ozai’s perspective and I’m happy to keep coming back when you put out more, great work!
I never saw it that Farquaard would be a king under real life circumstances and only isn't because of some weird fairy tale reasons. my interpretation was simply that he just isn't a king, period. just a lord with his county or however you call that in English. obviously marrying a royal princess and becoming part of the royal family wouldn't make him a king either in real life.
Another fun fact, even though I always thought that was Farquad's plan, it's likely it wouldn't work. Usually if a man marries a princess and she is set to inherite a kingdom that man would not necessarly get the title of king, sometimes that title even goes to woman. The most he could be is king consort, which means husband to the queen. In the real world getting the title of king if you were not born into it is quite hard. (Although in the sequels it is confirmed that Fiona's husband would become king of Far far away, so all this is meaningless).

This means that the reason theyre able to mate is because theyre both human at base - the fairy magic is just making them appear to be a Dragon and Donkey, so their children are actually humans, who have fairy magic projecting their body from the image of their parents. Also, fairy godmother erased herself from existence, but only partially, because fairy magic cant actually change reality. She turned into bubbles, and then air - she still exists, which is why her magic still exists - she just made the illusion of her form into No Form. All the magical woodland creatures were being captured and moved away from Far Far Away because Harold and FG had an affair, creating Charming - which i think FG was trying to use to usurp the kingdom. The reason it didnt work was because exposing Charming as their kid may have removed them from the will altogether, so she tried to have him erased. I hope this helps explain why the lore of shrek is so strange

Marrying a royal princess to become a king is not an idiotic idea. He is a lord, not a king. The royal title is superior to the lord one. So marry a royal family member is one of the ways to improve your own title. Especially considering the fact that Fiona was the only child of the royal family - so we her parents will pass away, she'll become a queen and he will be her consort. His heir will inherite the royal title or Farquaad could seize it more easily for his own from his queen wife. The other wat is to conquer more lands and to make other kings to recognize him as their equal that is much harder then some marriage diplomacy types of the game of throwns.
